Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signatare of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of the body of a female child found dead in the river Irwell, at Barton- upon- Irwell, on the 11th instant: about 5 days old, brown hair and eyes, naked, with the exception of a flannel binder round its waist; there is a small blister on left side of neck, and the skull has been fractured ; the body appears to have been in the water about seven days. An inquest was held on the 12th instant, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned. Information to be given to the Superintendent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, June 16. On the evening of the 31st ultimo, Peter McPartlin was struck on the left side of the head with a gutta percha ' life preserver,' and from the injury received he died the next morning. A young man of the following description is suspected : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, aud stoutly made ; dressed in a black suit, body hat, and white muffler with blue spots on it. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Police Office, Middlesborougb, Yorkshire.— Bour- street, June 11. Absconded charged on a warrant with causing the death of John Humphries, at Hounslow, 26th ultimo: ALFRED CHURCH, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pale com- plexion, sullen looking, aud has a few light hairs on the chin ; dressed in dark coat, white slop underneath, cord trousers, heavy boots, aud brown scull cap, he is a brickmaker, and known at Southall, and Cranford. — Metropolitan Police, T Division, June 6. FORGERY. Description of PETER BAIRD, charged with forging a cheque at Stranraer : he is a clogger, a native of Stranraer, 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair cut short, hazel eyes, thick neck, little or no whiskers, and speaks the South of Scotland dialect; generally dressed in dark tweed or check clothes, and either round cap or billycock hat. This person was traced to Liverpool, where he was in quest of work in the beginning of the past month, and he is supposed to be working at his trade iu some of the clog manufactories iu Lancashire. Information to be given to Superintendent McNeil, Stranraer, Wigtonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., June 2. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the persons of gentlemen while attending the miner's demonstration, in the city of Durham, on the 14th instant : a gold patent lever Watch, gold dial and figures, single case, engine- turned, far worn, No. 16028; a gold patent lever Watch, liat glass, centre seconds, maker Mason, Rotherham, Yorkshire, No. 28732 ; a double- cased verge Watch, maker Bullingford, Loudon, No. 9933. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Wilson, Town Hall, Durham.— Bow- street, June 18. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Bolton, on the afternoon of the 5th instant : a gold chronometer Watch, No. 5757, maker Nicole aud Capt, Soho- square, London ; had attached a rather heavy gold albert Chain, long links, to which was appended a Seal with crest— a griffin's head. £ 20 reward will be paid for the recovery of the property. Stolen from the person at Leicester, on the night of the 31st ultimo : a silver English lever Watch and plain gold curb albert Guard, with Charms attached, a Hand holding Cricket Ball, Wickets, and Bat; a gold gipsy Ring, 18- carat, with three blue turquoise stones ; a bunch of Keys, with reversible seal; and about 8s. in Money. Information to be given to Chief Constable Farndale, Police Office, Leicester.— Bow- street, June 9. Stolen from the person, whilst travelling from White- chapel, London, to St. Mary's Barracks, Gillingham, on the 7th instant : six £ 5 Bank of England Notes, Nos. 41243, 41244, 41247, 41248, 41249, and 41250, all dated 1 | 3 | 73. Information to be given to Superintendent Cappinger, Police Court, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, Jutis 16. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Ascot Races on the afternoon of the 13th instant: a large Cigar Case, the frames of Japanese enamels; and two medallions, one on either side, two inches in diameter, representing flamingoes in water. £ 5 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Superintendent Thomson, Police StatioD, Bow- street, London.— Bow- street, June 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 3 and 7 p. m. on the 9th instant, the house of Robt. Davies, the Lodge, near Rhug Corwen, Merionethshire, was broken and entered and the following money stolen out of a saving- box, which was wrenched open : one Half- Sovereign in gold, one Sixpence in silver, three Fourpenny Pieces ( two have holes in them) ; two Threepenny Pieces ( one has a hole iu it); one Half- Farthing ; one old Farthing ( lately been cleaned); and one new French Penny, the pro- perty of Robert Davies. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given at the Police Station, Corwen, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, June 13. Between 12 midnight and 3 a. m. on the 7th instant, the house of Henry Emmerson, of Stoneferry, in the parish of Sutton, near Hull, was broken into, and stolen therein : thirty or forty Brooches, some gold, some plated ; thirty or forty pairs of Ear- rings, all gold ; three or four Brooches, set with brilliants, and Ear- rings to match ; a butterfly Brooch, set with brilliants ; a Brooch, harp pattern ; two Watches, silver gilt, gold dials, cylinder escapement ; several gold Rings, one of them with hoiseshoe head, set with brilliants ; two sets of gold Sleeve- links; a pair of Ear- rings, 9- carat gold ; six gold Rings, set with various stones ; three gold Chains ; three gold Albert Guards ; eight pairs of Bracelets, one enamelled; eight silver Brooches, set with pebbles, one with some sheep on it, and one with an old king's head. Information to be given to Superintendent Watson, East Riding Constabulary, Sproatly, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 11. Between 4 and 7 p. m. on the 4th instant, the dwelling- house cf David Maddocks, of Adlington, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : a silver English lever Watch, No. 69775, jewelled in two holes, white dial, sunk seconds, and gilt hands ; a black cloth Jacket, Vest, and Trousers ( quite new), a black cloth Jacket with two pockets outside aud one pocket inside left breast, also a blue and white spotted Handkerchief. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, County Police Office, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, June 9. of the 11th and morning of the 13th instant, the property of Mr. H. Coxen : a dark brown Mare, aged, is hands 1 inch hi{ very fat, lame in near foreleg, scar inside thigh, thick in e wind, one hind foot white, star on forehead, switch tai and very quiet. A reward of £ 5 will be paid to any peison giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Mare. Also stolen from a meadow at Chobham, on the night of the 13th instant : a dark brown Mare, aged, 15 bands high, lame in near fore foot from sand crack, switch tail, in good condition, and shod with round shoe. Was traced towards Ascot. Information to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, June 16. Stolen from a field at Buildwas, during the night of the 9th inst. : a rather light- made dark bay Mare, about 6 years old, from 15 to 16 hands high, rather small neck, has a white star on forehead, and is in fail- condition ; the property of Mr. D. Gittins, farmer. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, June 11. Stolen from the road side of Eyton, parish of Baschurch, Salop, between 6 and 8 a. m. on the 11th ultimo : a mare Donkey, 3 years old, very dark brown and white nose, and brush on off foreleg, rather small of her age, and sharp- look- ing. 10s. reward will be paid to any person who can give information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and the recovery of the Donkey. Stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from Ship- bourne, Kent : a dark brown Mare, of the nag b eed, about 14 hands high, rising six years old, three inaiko - u. near side, two white, and the other rubbed by the trace, very small short switch tail, in good condition, and both knees broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, June 9. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found at Claverley, Salop, on the 6th instant, and sup- posed to have been stolen, a Lamb, about three months' old, brown face and legs, iuddle marks on shoulder aud rump, and circular mark on each hip. luformatiou to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Police Constable Merricks, Claverley, Salop.— Bow- street, June 20. Stolen on the 7th instant, from Clapham, a bay Mare, 15 hands high, half clipped, white on face and hind heels, long mane and tail, in good condition, and ' No. 297' branded on fore hoofs : by a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, brown curly hair, blue eyes, tuft on chin, and walks lame ; dressed in a light rough overcoat, striped under coat, tight- fitting cord trousers, lace boots, and black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, June 20. Further information respecting the bay Horse, stolen from the parish of Amington, near Tamworth, on the night of the 3rd instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6th instant: the horse is a half- bred one, 5 years old, 15 hands high, white star on forehead, bang tail, and when at work carries his tongue out on right side of moath. Was seen in the possession of two men at 2 a in. on the 4th inst., at a place called Botty Moor Heath, and going in the direction of Birmingham, the men were dressed as labourers or boatmen, and one of thern much shorter than the other. A reward of £ 5 will be paid on the apprehension and con- viction of the offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Hursher, Warwickshire Constabulary, Atherstone. — Bow- street, June 18. Left at Mr. John Bloor's, farmer, Wistaston, on the 7th instant: a light made bay Mave, about 14 hands high, loug mane aud tail, white star on forehead, near hind foot white, the other black, and a few white hairs on the left shoulder. Also a bay Foal, about 2 months old. By a man, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, and has a large white patch over the left eye, and sometimes wears a waterproof coat. States that he came from Crewe. The Mare and Foal are supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 16. Stolen from Englefield Green, Surrey, between the night LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a cash- box iu a bed- room at the Swan Hotel, Leighton Buzzard, about 9 a- m. on the 17th instant : three Bank of England Notes, one £ 20, one £ 10, aud the other £ 5 ; and £ 2 in Silver. By a man, who lodged there the previous night : from 37 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fair complexion, rather light hair and mous- tache, aud no whiskers ; dressed in an oxford mixture cloth suit and black hat; carried a small black leather bag and black umbrella. Information to be given to Superintendent Clough, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, June 20. Absconded from Cardiff, on the 4th instant, charged with embezzling several sums of Monev, the property of the Guardiaus of the Cardiff Union : WILLIAM HENRY DURKE, late master of the Union, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout built, light complexion, long light whiskers and moustache, shaved cleau on chin ; generally dressed in light clothes, and light bowler hat. He has three or four large boxes with him, and will no doubt endeavour to emigrate ; he may be accompanied by his wife, who is a tall dark woman. A warrant has been issued for his apprehen- sion. luformatiou to be given to Chief Superintendent Bond, Police Station, Cardiff.— Bow- street, June 20. Absconded from the borough of Leicester, on the 13ch instant, charged with stealing a pair of Trousers and Vest, the property of his employers ; also with embezzling several sums of Money : JAMES ROBERTS, about 25 years of age, 6 feet high, dark brown hair, slight whiskers, sallow com- plexion, slender build, and walks erect ; dressed in a suit of light mixture Scotch tweed. Was formerly a Colour Sergeant of the 71st Regiment of Foot, and previous to enlistment was a shepherd in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, of which place he is a native. luformatiou to be given to Chief Constable Farndale, Town Hall, Leicester.— Bow- street, June 18. Stolen on the 15tli instant, from the dwelling- house of Thomas Heseltine, at New Frodingham : an old silver Watch, with Roman figures, No. 3379, maker Pybus, Caistor; also a white short glop. By a man of the following descrip- tion : 20 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, no whiskers ; dressed in dark cloth pilot jacket, cotton cord trousers, sealskin cap, olucher boots, and blue flannel shirt. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Wells, Winterton, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 18. Absconded on the 12th April last, charged with stealing £ 13 in Gold, two £ 5 Notes, and three Cheques ( one for £ 17 10s., payable to Ruth Blackmore, one £ 10, payable to Mrs. Blackmore, one £ 12 10s., whi'- h was cashed ou 5th ult., at the Harp Hotel, Dover. Supposed by HENRY RICHARD TAYLOR, draper's assitant, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, light brown hair, and sunken eyes. His father resides at Ipswich. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, June 16. Description of JAMES APPS, charged with stealing a Barrow at Dartford, which is recovered : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 2i inches high, dark brown hair, scar over right eye and left temple ; supposed dressed in black billycock hat, and shabby velveteeu jacket, cut short; hawks silver sand, has been several times convicted of fraud and larceny at Dover, Canterbury, and Maidstone, and is well known in Kent. Absconded from the ship ' Britannia' at Stockton- on- Tees, on the 13th instaat, charged with stealing three £ 10 Bank of England Notes; a £ 5 Note ; and £ 1 in gold : a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light com- plexion, blue eyes, light hair, no whiskers, has uu old scar on nose, and ' A. B.' on wrist in ink ; dressed in blue guernsey jacket, blue pilot cloth trousers, cheesecutter cap, and lace- up boots ; a native of London, and is supposed to have been iu au industrial school. Information to be given to Superiu tendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton- on- Tees.— Bow- street, June 16. Description of a man charged with stealing £ 2 in gold from a lodging- house at Mold, on the 14th instant, the pro- perty of one David Williams : he is from 23 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 to 7 inches high, slender build, dark or dark brown hair, no whiskers, and thin pale face ; dressed in a white linen jacket, light or brown mixture cloth trousers and vest, with a stripe, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or to Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow street, June 16. Stolen from a house in Withington, on the 12th instant, the following articles, viz. : a gold open face lever Watch, gold engraved dial and cases, No. 58,673, private 19,383; a gold Chain, cable pattern, and had attached a small blue scent Bottle; a small gold Necklet, snake pattern, Locket attached in shape of a heart, a little hair inside Locket, has a " lass broken ; a gold Brooch, shape of letter S, glass front, and grev hair inside ; a pair of gold Ear- rings with fringe ; a gold Ring, snake pattern, with large torquoise head and ruby eyes ; a large Ditto, with four or five large pearls, and two small amethysts between, the back of which has been broken, a gold band having been tied round the broken part; a Ditto Forget- Me- Not, with five torquoises and a small pearl iu centre, plain gold with a rose- shaped cluster. By two men, one of whom is in custody ; the other is of the following description : about 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair hair, blue eyes, and fresh complexion ; has a scar on back of neck ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers and vest, elastic side boots, black billycock hat, and had a brown overcoat in his possession. Information to be given to Superintendent Bent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, June 16. Stolen from the dwelling house of William Coverdale, Beverley, on the 7th instant: two gold Geneva lever Watches, one small, the other a larger size, No. 2907 stamped inside back case ; two gold Guard Chains, one with three gold Lockets, gold Key, with red and blue stone attached ; the other, a gold Locket, horseshoe pattern, and small gold fancy Drum attached. By a woman who had taken apart- ments there about a week, and gave the name of WILLIAMS, of genteel appearance, about 33 years of age, medium height, pale complexion, rather prominent features, brown hair ; dressed in white straw hat, trimmed with black velvet and red feather, and small humming bird on side, black cloth close fitting jacket, trimmed with black fur and single row of black buttons in front, and violet dress ; stated she came from Manchester and was an organist. Information to be given to Superintendent Knight. Beverley, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, June 16. Absconded from Grimston, Norfolk, on the 6th instant, charged with stealing a Hen and ten Chickens ( since re- covered) : JOHN BILLING, alias BROCKING BILLING, a native of Grimston, 40 years of age, 5 feet (! inches high, rather slight build, light brown hair and whiskers, rather sandy, pockpitted, and very much freckled in the face, and ears pierced ; dressed in black billycock hat, sleeved vest, the foreparts made out of a foal's skin, dark trousers, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to inspector Carter, Police Station, Grimston, King's Lynn, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 13. Stolen from an unoccupied house at Yarm, between the 7th and 9th instant : three hand Saws ; a rip Saw, stamped on handle ' H. Smith;' a cross- cut hand Saw, stamped on handle ' J. E. Carter ;' and a panel Saw, all nearly new. By a man who has the appearance of a bricklayer's labourer, absut 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, ginger hair, and small tuft of hair on chin. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Constabulary Office, South Stock- ton- on- Tees.— Bow- stteet, June 13. Description of MARY McCABE, a tramp, charged with stealing a pair of Scotch Blankets, bound with red worsted ; a dark blue pilot cloth Greatcoat, lined with black and red tartan, bound with braid, and a good deal worn ; a dark blue Vest, lined with black and mauve tartan ; a grey shoulder Napkin, with fringes ; and a pair of grey worsted Stockings, the property of Bridget Mills, lodging- house keeper, iu the borough of Berwick- on- Tweed : she is a native of Ireland, 50 to 55 years of age, tall, stout make, and dark grey hair ; dressed in a dark cotton jacket and skirt, black cap, white stockings, and lace- up boots. She is supposed to have gone in the direction of Newcastle. Information to be given to Superintendent Garden, Town Hall, Berwick- on- Tweed.— Boic- street, June 13. Stolen from the workshop of Mussellwhite and Sons, iu the borough of Basingstoke, on the 8th iustant, the under- mentioned carpenters' Tools : a new Trying Plane ; a Jack Plane ; two Smoothing Planes ; a new Hand Saw, ' Makers, Temple and Portsmouth,' on plate ; a Tenon Saw ; a Table Saw ; a Mallet, marked ' Box ;' a carpenter's Plough ; and a carpenter's Basket, with sundry Chisels, & c. By a carpenter who worked at the shop for about three weeks : 33 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaves on chin, stammers a little, and is very much sunburnt; dressed iu black cloth coat with pockets at sides, bluish trousers, and hard round- crowned felt hat; he arrived at Southampton from Cape Town on the 12th ult. Information to be given to Head Constable Hibberd, Basing- stoke, Hants.— Bow street, June 11. Absconded on the 9th iust., charged with stealing £ 50 : a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, red hair, clean shaved, and is bow- legged ; dressed iu grey shooting coat, blue trousers with small red stripe down side, black felt hat, and side3pring boots ; may endeavour to go to Liverpool.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, June 11. high, dark hair, small whiskers and moustache, and small features; dressed in a grey mixture cloth jacket and jiincrow hat ; he is a brick and tile maker ; and GEORGE GALLI- MORE, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, and oval face ; dressed in a dirty suit of old cloth clothes ; he is a brick and tile maker. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Thomas, Police Staiion, Much Wenlock, Salop, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, June 20. On the 5th instant, a man of the following description committed an outrage on a young girl near Burreltow » , county of Perth : he is a native of Scotland, about 45 years of age, ordinary size and make, reddish hair, turning grey, grey whiskers, rather bushy under chin, no moustache, and . shaved under lower lip, ruddy sunburnt face; dressed in dirty dark cap, with leather peak, dark greyish coat and vest, white or yellow worsted cord trousers, with a patch on one of the knees, and boots or shoes much worn. Carried a small black bundle on his back, tied iu a patent glazed leather strap, slung round his shoulder, and said he had tramped all the way from Aberdeen. Calls at roadside public- houses, and gossips with the inmates. Information to be given to Chief Constable Gordon, County Police Office, Perth.— Bow- street, June 9. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. GEORGE FULLER, on the 19th March last, did obtain by fraud from Messrs. Edward Steven Comberbach and John Comberbach, jewellers, Blackburn, ten silver Watches : he ordered by post and obtained a small quantity of Jewellery from the firm mentioned, forwarding the money duly, and afterwards, as charged, forwarded another order for the ten watches, inclosing two half £ 5 Bank Notes, stating the others to follow, whereas he had previously obtained goods by fraud, having forwarded to them the first half of the notes from Messrs.
