POLICE CONTAINING GAZETTE. The iubsUAte of all Information* received m eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged unit Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Th* Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 5369 FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 1873. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made aud sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor BUnst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POUCE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. of age, pale face, no whiskers, and sharp looking eyes; dressed in black, and high black hat; carried an umbrella. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, or to the City or Metropolitan Police.— Bow- street, June 6. On the evening of the 31st ultimo, Peter McPartlin was struck on the left side of the head with a gutta percha ' life preserver,' and from the injury received he died the next morning. A young man of the following description is \ suspected : about 25 years of age', 5 feet 5 or ( i inches high, and stoutly made ; dressed iu a black suit, body hat, and white muffler with blue spots on it. Iuformation to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Police Office, Middlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Jane 11. Absconded charged on a warrant with causing the death of John Humphries, at Hounslow, 26th ultimo : ALFRED CHURCH, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pale com- | Slexion, sullen looking, aud has a few light hairs on the chin ; ressed in dark coat, white slop underneath, cord trousers, heavy boots, and brown scull cap, he is a brickmaker, and 1 known at Southall, and Cranford. — Metropolitan Police, T Division, June 6. FORGERY. Description of PETER BAIRD, charged with forging a cheque at Stranraer : he is a clogger, a native of Stranraer, 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexiou, dark brown hair cut short, hazel eyes, thick neck, little or no whiskers, and speaks the South of Scotland dialect; generally dressed iu dark tweed or check clothes, and either round cap or billycock hat. This person was traced to Liverpool, where he was in quest of work in the beginning of the past month, and he is supposed to be working at his trade in some of the clog manufactories in Lancashire. Information to be given to Superintendent McNeil, Stranraer, Wigtonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., June 2. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman iu Bolton, on the afternoon of the 5th instaut : a gold chronometer Watch, No. 5757, maker Nicole and Capt, Soho- square, London; had attached a rather heavy gold albert Chain, loug links, to which was appended a Seal with crest— a griffin's head. £ 20 reward will be paid for the recovery of the property. Infor- mation to be giveu to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lan cashire.— Bow- street, June 13. Stolen from the person at Leicester, on the night of the 31st ultimo : a silver English lever Watch and plain gold curb albert Guard, with Charms attached, a Haud holding Cricket Ball, Wickets, and Bat; a gold gipsy Ring, 18 carat, with three blue turquoise stones ; a bunch <•[ Keys, with reversible seal ; and about 8s. iu Money. Information to be given to Chief Constable Farndale, Police Office, Leicester.— Bow- street, June 9. Stolen from the person of a lady whilst at Tynemouth, on the 2nd instaut : a gold lever Watch, No. 27486, compen- sation balance, ' E. Deacon, Luton,' engraved on dome. In- formation to be given to Head Constable Stewart, Tyuemouth, Northumberland.— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen from the person in Brighton on the 2nd instant: a gold Geneva Watch, having written on tile plate inside, 1 Presented to W. M. Baily, by Messrs. Holmes and Impey, August, 1868." Three men of the following description are suspected, one about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches high, stout make, long brown whiskers, full face ; dreised in trrey overcoat with brawn velvet collar, and black soft hat; another about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, dark complexion ; dressed in black frock coat, and black oxford hat; and the other about 25 yrs. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 3 and 7 p. m. on the 9th instant, the house of Robt. Davies, the Lodge, near Rhug Corwen, Merionethshire, was broken and entered and the following money stolen out of a saving- box, which was wrenched open : one Half- Sovereign in gold, one Sixpence in silver, three Fourpenny Pieces ( two have holes in them) ; two Threepenny Pieces ( one has a hole in it); one Half- Farthing ; one old Farthing ( lately been cleaned); and one new French Penny, the pro- perty of Robert Davies. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given at the Police Station, Corwen, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, June 13. Between 12 midnight and 3 a. m. on the 7th instant, the house of Henry Emmerson, of Stoneferry, in the parish of Sutton, near Hull, was broken into, and stolen therein : thirty or forty Brooches, some gold, some plated ; thirty or forty pairs of Ear- rings, all gold ; three or four Brooches, set with brilliants, and Ear- rings to match ; a butterfly Brooch, set with brilliants ; a Brooch, harp pattern; two Watches, silver gilt, gold dials, cylinder escapement; several gold Rings, one of them with hoiseshoe head, set with brilliants ; two sets of gold Sleeve- links; a pair of Ear- rings, 9- carat gold; six gold Rings, set with various stones ; three gold Chains ; three gold Albert Guards; eight pairs of Bracelets, one enamelled; eight silver Brooches, set with pebbles, one with some sheep on it, and oue with an old king's head. Information to be given to Superintendent Watson, East Riding Constabulary, Sproatly, IlulVYorkahire.— Bow- street, June 11. Between 4 and 7 p. m. ou the 4th instant, the dwelling- house cf David Maddocks, of Adlington, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : a silver English lever Watch, No. 69775, jewelled in two holes, white dial, sunk seconds, and gilt hands ; a black cloth Jacket, Vest, and Trousers ( quite new), a black cloth Jacket with two pockets outside aud one pocket inside left breast, also a blue and white spotted Haudkerchief. Informatiou to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Coun'ty Police Office, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, June 9. Between 10 a. m. and 12' 30p. m. on the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Gee, of Cholmondeston, near Nantwich, was entered during the absence of the family at divine service, and the following property stolen therein : a striped cloth Coat and Vest; a pair of men's Shoes, with tips on heels and toes ; a linen Shirt; a loaf of Bread ; and about 2 lbs. of Cheese. Suspicion is attached to a youth, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair and com- plexion ; he was seen loitering about the premises, and was wearing a corduroy jacket. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire. — Bow- street, June 9. On the afterncou of the 4th iustaut, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Milligan, Upper Dicconson- street, in the borough of Wigon, was feloniously entered, aud the following articles stolen therein : a good Brooch, oval- shaped, chased work with amethyst stoje in centre ; a gold Ring, with opal and emerald stoues ; a geld Ring with garnet stone ; a gold Ring, with small blue stoue ; a gold Locket, with Chain ; a silver sewing Bird ; two gold oval Studs ; a silver Watch ; ' an ancient silver Watch ; an ancient silver cream Jug, with I initials ' I. A.;' a blue Overcoat, velvet collar, rather short, I two outside pockets on each side, seamed down the sides and back ; a small pair of gold Ear- rings ; a small pair of tortoise- shell Ear- rings. The same afternoon, the dwelling- bo-. ise of Mr. William Holt, of Wigan- lane, was feloniously entered, aud about £ 6 in Money stolen therein. The dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Farr, at Pagefield, was also entered the same day, anu from £ 5 to £ 6 in Money stolen therein. Also the dweliing- house qf Mr. Barlow, of Upper Diccon- son- street, was entered, but nothing stolen. All the above named offences were committed during the temporary absence of the several families from home, ou the occasion of a visit of their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales to this towu. On the 6 th instant, there was stolen from the ' Three Tuns' public- house, in the borough of Wigan : a lady's gold mourning Ring ; a lady's gold Ring, with red stone ; £ 4 in Silver Money ; and an old- fashioned striped glass Decanter, containing Wine. Information to be given to Chief Constable Simm, Police Office, Wigau, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 9. Between 1 and 6 a. m. ou the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Dudley Felix Kemp, Chipstead, Surrey, was broken into and entered, and the following Articles stolen therein : a gold Watch, a gold Albert, oval links, with Locket attached, containing portraits of two ladies and Mr. Ivemp's initials ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links ; an onyx Pin ; a grey- cloth Jacket; a pair of grey cloth Trousers; a dark grey Cap, with neak ; a pair of men's elastic- side Boot?, oue has been mended at the side ; a pair © S lace- np Boots, nearly new, with brass eyelet- holes ; a riding Crop, mouuted with silver; and a walking Stick. A short white slop, buttons up the front, was left behind by the offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Reigate, or to Superintendent Page, Dorking, Surrey.— Bow- street, June 4. During the night of the 31st ultimo, the house of George Willcock, situated at Gillingham, was burglariously broken and entered, and the following property Btolen therein : an open face silver verge Watch, maker ' Jones, Strand,' has the letter ' T.' scratched on inside case; a pilot cloth monkey Jacket, red and black plaid lining, black bone buttons ; two flannel Shirts, one small size and has a brass button on the neck ; and a pair of men's cotton drawers. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Police Court, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, June 4. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at West End, parish of South Stoneham, on the 9th instant : a dark cream- coloured Cob, 8 yrs. old, 14i hands high, hair rubbed off near shoulder and behind the fore legs by the belly- band, carries its head very high ; also a Bridle and Saddle. By a young man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very little whiskers, weak eyes; dressed in dark clothes, and black felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bitterne, near Southampton.— Bow- street, June 13. Stolen from a field at Buildwas, during the night of the 9th inst. : a rather light- made dark bay Mare, about 6 years old, from 15 to 16 hands high, rather small neck, has a white star on forehead, and is in fair condition ; the property of Mr. D. Gittins, farmer. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, June 11. Stolen from the road side of Eyton, parish of Baschurch, Salop, between 6 and 8 a. m. on the 11th ultimo : a mare Donkey, 3 years old, very dark brown and white nose, and brush on otf foreleg, rather small of her age, and sharp- look- ing. 10s. reward will be paid to any person who can give information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and the recovery of the Donkey. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to P. C. Lyndon, Baschurch, Salop.— Bow- street, June 9. Stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from Ship- bourne, Kent : a dark brown Mare, of the nag breed, about 14 hands high, rising six years old, three marks on near side, two white, and the other rubbed by the trace, very small short switch tail, in good condition, and both knees broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, June 9. Stolen on or about the 31st ultimo, from a field at Ewell: a brown Pony, 13i hands high, white face, spotted neck and body.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, June 6. Stolen from the parish of Amington, near Tamworth, during the night of the 3rd instant : a bay Horse, 5 years old, 15 hands high, white star on forehead, bang tail, has been clipped, but shows his old coat. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 5 reward. Information to be given to Inspector Hursher, Atherstone, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen from a field at Wheat Bucketts, near Redruth, Cornwall, on the 27th ultimo : a bay Pony, about 14 hands high, pin shot, white star on forehead. Information to be given to Mr. Curragh, Police Station, Redruth, Cornwall. — Bow- street, June G. Stolen on the 31st ult., from a field at Epsom : a black Gelding, 13 hands high, broken knees, saddle marked. Also, on the 30th or 31st ultimo, from a field near Epsom Common : a large bay cart Mare, aged, 16 hands high, long mane and tail, white star on forehead, the under lip hangs dowr, has the appearance of being in foal, and is in good condition.--- Metropolitan Police, V Division, June 6. Stolen during the night of the 1st or morning of the 2nd instant, from a field in the parish of Hilton, the property of Mr. George Jeenes, a bay Mare, 15 hands high, 5 years old, black legs, and a little lame on the off one, value about £ 35. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Spencer, St. Ives, Hunts.— Bow- stred, June 4. The Horse described in the Police Gazette of the 23rd, aud the Irish Hue aud Cry of the 27th ultimo, as having been stolen at Chester, has been recovered, and the thief arrested by the Dublin Metropolitan Police. The follow- ing is the description of the man in custody, who is sus- pected of having committed similar offences elsewhere: WILLIAM MOORE, ( which he admits to be false), 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 j inches high, light blue eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, tooth missing from right front of upper jaw, freckled arms, weight 10 stone 12 lbs, no whiskers or mous- tache, scar under chin ; dressed in a soft black felt hat, light tweed overcoat, blue cloth vest, light tweed trousers, the buttons upon . which are marked ' Jacobs, Oldham- street, Manchester,' elastic side boots, with square toes ; states that he has been a long time iu France, Holland, and Belgium, and that he served iu the Belgian army 4 years. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, XJbesterr-— Boho- street, ' June 4. Description of a man in custody at Whittlesey for horse stealing : CHARLES GREEN, a native of Ashbourn, Derbyshire, 51 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, nearly black hair, worn long and inclined to curl, brown eyes, fresh face ; dressed in ribbed purple cloth cap with peak, turned up at ears with dark flaps, such as are worn by pot hawkers, plaid neckerchief, blue cloth vest, black cloth coat, cotton cord trousers, and heavy lace- up boots ; marked with six moles on back, two on right breast, one under left armpit, crucifix aud woman holding child in one hand, and dagger iti the other, on right arm, woman and anchor and Britannia on right fore- aim, man and woman joining hands holding mug and goblet, on left arm, two sailors dancing, half moon, six; stars, wreath encircling a heart, sun, woman, and mermaid on left forearm; he is stoutly built, says he has been to sea with fishing smacks most of his life, but for the last six months worked in a brick field near London, has a wife and three children, but refuses to say where. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Smith, Whittlesey, Cambs.— Bow- street, June 4. intendent Clough, Leighton- Buzzard, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 9. Absconded from Nottingham on the 2nd instant, charged with embezzling various sums of money, the property of Messrs. Chaplin and Horne, his masters : FREDERICK MAXEY, a clerk, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 iuches or 6 feet high, florid complexion, sandy- coloured hair, ginger- coloured whiskers, rather full about the chin and from two to three iuches long, has an awkward and ungentlemanly gait, large feet, and turns his toes out very much when walking. £ 20 reward will be given for his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Constable Boyntz, Borough Police Station, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 9. The two gipsies advertised in the Police Gazette of the 14th ultimo, charged with stealing sheep Skins, at Bamsley, have been apprehended at Bradford- on- Avon: their names are CHARLES LOVERIDGE, and MOSES SCANETT, and they are eommittsd for trial at the next Gloucester County Quarter Sessions. Information to be given tp Super- intendent Wood, Police Station, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, June 6. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Grimston, Norfolk, ou the 6th iustant, charged with stealing a Hen and ten Chickens ( since re- covered) : JOHN BILLING, alias BROCKING BILLING, a native of Grimston, 40 years of age, 5 feet ( i inches high, rather slight build, light brown hair and whiskers, rather sandy, pockpitted, and very much freckled in tbe face, aud ears pierced ; dressed in black billycock hat, sleeved vest, the foreparts made out of a foal's skin, dark trousers, and lace- up ' boots. Information to be given to Inspector Carter, Police ' Station, Grimston, King's Lynn, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 13. Stolen from an unoccupied house at Yarm, between the 7th and 9th instant : three hand Saws ; a rip Saw, stamped on handle ' H, Smith;' a cross- cut hand Saw, stamped on handle ' J. E. Carter ;' and a panel Saw, all nearly new. By a man who has the appearance of a bricklayer's labourer, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, ginger hair, and small tuft of hair on chin. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Constabulary Office, South Stock- ton- on- Tees.— Bow- street, June 13. Description of MARY McCABE, a tramp, charged with stealing a pair of Scotch Blankets, bound with red worsted ; a dark blue pilot cloth Greatcoat, lined with black and red tartan, bouud with braid, and a good deal worn ; a ' dark blue Vest, lined with black and mauve tartan ; a grey shoulder Napkin, with fringes ; and a pair of grey worsted Stockings, the property of Bridget Mills, lodging- house keeper, in the borough of Berwick- on- Tweed : she is a native of Ireland, 50 to 55 years of age, tall, stout make, and dark grey hair ; dressed in a dark cotton jacket and skirt, black cap, white stockings, and lace- up boots. She is snpposed to have gone in the direction of Newcastle. Information to be sjiven to Superintendent Garden, Town Hall, Berwick- on- Tweed.— Bow- street, June 13. Stolen from the workshop of Mussellwhite and Sons, in the borough of Basingstoke, on the 8th instant, the under- mentioned carpenters' Tools : a new Trying Plane ; a Jack Plane ; two Smoothing Planes ; a new Hand Saw, ' Makers, Temple aud Portsmouth,' on plate ; a Tenon Saw ; a Table Saw ; a Mallet, marked ' Box ;' a carpenter's Plough ; and a carpenter's Basket, with sundry Chisels, & c. By a carpenter who worked at the shop for about three weeks : 33 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaves ou chiu, stammers a little, and is very much sunburnt; dressed iu black cloth coat with pockets at sides, bluish trousers, and hard round- crowned felt hat; he . arrived at Southampton from Cape Town on the 12tli ult. Information to be given to Head Constable Hibberd, Basing- stoke, Hants.— Bow- street, June 11. Absconded on the 9th inst., charged with stealing £ 50 : a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, red hair, clean shaved, and is bow- legged; dressed in grey shooting coat, blue trousers with small red stripe down side, black felt hat, and sidespring boots ; may endeavour to go to Liverpool.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, June 11. Absconded on tho 5th instant, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 12 : a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, slight whiskers, and walks lame; dressed iu white slop and cord trousers.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, June 11. Description of SAMUEL BLAKSLEY, painter and grainer, a native of Leicester, who absconded from Ecclcshall on the 5th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing four painters' Brushes, a pair of Scissors, a box of steel Graining Combs, and a Pallette Knife, the property of his employer, Mr. Charles Louis Smith : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate make, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaved on chin, slightly pockmarked, one front tooth out of upper jaw ; dressed iu dark mixture cloth acket and vest, drab cloth trousers with a hole burnt in the back of one leg, fancy white felt sammy hat, and blue silk necktie, and carried a new white bass, in which he had the stolen articles ; he pledged a jacket nud a poition of the tools at Stone on the same day. Information to be given to Super- intendent Crisp, Stone, or to Sergeant Blakeley, Eccleshall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 9. FREDERICH SAMUELS, late of Leighton- Buzzard, currier's apprentice, is charged with stealing Leather at Leighton on the 13th ultimo, the property of Walter Harris, his master : he is 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slender figure, fair complexion, sharp features, light hair and eyes, and of smart appearance. Information to be given to Super- FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). On the 5th instant, a man of [ the following description committed an outrage on a young girl near Burreltown, county of Perth : he is a native of Scotland, about 45 years of age, ordinary size and make, reddish hair, turning grey, grey whiskers, rather bushy under chin, no moustache, and shaved under lower lip, ruddy sunburnt face; dressed in dirty dark cap, with leather peak, dark greyish coat and vest, white or yellow worsted cord trousers, with a patch on one of the knees, and boots or shoes much worn. The greater number of the pheasants have been recovered, and six men, named FREDERICK IVORY, HENRY DAVIS PALMER, WILLIAM HARDY, alias BUCK HARDY, ROBERT GODDARD, WILLIAM MOORING, and CHARLES SHANE, have been committed for trial at the next mid- summer assizes for stealing and receiving the same.
