Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in referenoe to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre' hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. At 7* 45 p. m. on the 6th instant, a woman was seen to go into a privy in Oldfield- lane, New Wortley ; after she had left, the following child's clothing was found : ajlong white cotton Gown, a white flannel Gown, a Napkin, a Sheet, a Body Binder, a piece of white Flannel, and part of a child's feeding Bottle. On the 10th iustant, the dead body of a male child, 10 or 12 days old, was found, partly covered with earth, in a ditch near the Upper Wortley Cemetery, and a woman was seen near the place where the body was found. It is supposed that the woman who deposited the clothes in the privy is the same person seen near the ditch : she is about 34 years of age, tall, pale, sickly looking, and rather thin ; dressed in dark bonnet or hat, blue jacket, old black or dark stuff gown, and had a fall to her head- dress. Information to be giveu to the Chief Constable, Leeds.— Bow- street, Man 14. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Description of five men committed for trial at the East Kent Quarter Sessions to be held on the 1st of July next, for larceny and attempted larceny from the person at Wye Races on the the 22nd instant: JOHN WILLIAM BROWN, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark hair slightly grey and cut short, clean shaved, burn mark on right breast, large scar on right side of neck, and scar inside left leg below the knee ; dressed in a dark cloth coat, light mixture vest with small dark spots, light pepper- and- salt coloured trousers, white cotton shirt, black twill scarf with red stripes, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots ; states he is a shoemaker; JOHN SMITH, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, light blue eyes, light hair, pockmarked, crippled in right knee, and walks with a stick ; dressed in pepper- and- salt coloured coat and vest, Cue cord trousers, white shirt, white silk neckerchief with spots, elastic- side imitation lace boots, and hard felt hat ; states he is a wood chopper, and a native Brentford ; GEORGE HER- BERT, 19 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, scar in centre of forehead and under left eye, three small pocktnarks in centre of back, tattooed on light arm, scar ou elbow and on muscle of left arm ; dressed iu blue cloth coat with velvet collar, dark mix- ture vest, black cloth trousers, white cotton shirt, blue neck- tie, and elastic- side boots ; gave his address No. 1, Colemans- buildings, Lever- street, St. Luke's, London ; a labourer; JOSEPH DOWNS, 36 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, beard, aud moustache, whiskers shaved off sides of face, scar on forehead, large veins on calf of left leg, and scar from a cut on left wrist; dressed in a pilot cloth overcoat with velvet collar, black cloth under coat, dark speckled vest, dark trousers with brown stripe, white cotton shirt, dark scarf with red spots, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots; a welsher, and gave his address 5, Higb street, Birmingham; and JOHN WARRICK, 32 years of age, 5 feet 9] inches high, dark eomplexion, hair, and whiskers, stout build, large features, scar on left arm from a burn, and scar from a cut on muscle of right arm ; dressed in a black cloth frock coat, dark cloth vest with blue r < t3, a flowered velvet vest, light striped trousers, black s ; n necktie with lavender stripes, white cotton shirt, high silk hat, and elastic- side boots; states he is a hair sorter, and works at Bishop's, London- wall; gave his address No. 17, Money- street, North- street, Hoxton. Also of JOSEPH VICKERS, sentenced to six week's hard labour on the 23rd instant, for attempting to pick pockets at Wye Railway Station, on the 22nd instant: 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion and hair, few dark whiskers on sides of face, scar on forehead, one on back of neck, one on right elbow, and one on back ; dressed in dark waterproof overcoat, blue undercoat, with velvet collar, dark vest, with violet spots, light striped trousers, with olack stripe dowu the sides, black aud magenta baltic shirt, black tie, with blue stripes, black silk hat, and elastic- side boots. States he is a commercial traveller, and gave his address 1, King's Cross- road, London. And of GUSTAYE CARPENTIER, a Belgian, 19 years age, 5 feet 4£ inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, no whiskers or moustache, scar on muscle of right arm, one on right breast, also one from a cut in palm of left hand ; dressed in dark waterproof overcoat, blue cloth undercoat, bound with black braid, mixture vest, with red spots, bound with black braid, browu striped trousers, black satin necktie, with white spots, white cotton shirt, soft felt hat, and elastic- side boots. Stolen from the person at Wye Races, Kent, on the 22nd inst. : a single- case silver lever Watch, ' Hall' engraved inside; a gold Albert; £ 12 in Money; a silver hunting Watch, maker R. Cocking, Deal; a gentleman's gold Geneva Watch, jewelled in eight holes, white face, sunken seconds, engine- turned case with flower in centre; an oven- face verge Watch, maker Joseph Wilson, London, No. 5848 ; a silver Geneva Watch ; a silver Albert; a large silver Watch, maker Joyce, Lombard- street, London, bold figures, minute hand much bent; a double- case silver verge Watch, maker Nicholl Harrison, Canterbury, ' W. Huoks' engraved on inside case ; a dark leather Purse, containing about 40s., a Pencil, and a Ticket with the age of a female on it. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, May 26. Stolen from the person of a gentleman between St. Leonard's- on- Sea, and Eastbourne Races, on the 16th instant, a gold Hunting Watch, with white dial and minute hand, an unicorn's head engraved on case. Information to be given to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, or to the Sergeant on duty, Police Station, Eastbourne, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 21. Stolen from the person of John Powell, May Fair, on the 12th instant: an English lever Watch, name on dial— ' T. J. Jenkins,' jewelled, No. 41061. Also stolen from the person of William Powell, a labourer, at the May Fair, on the 12th instant : an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, with steel Chain and Seal attached, the name of ' Probert' on inside case, No. 610. Information to be given to Superintendent Wheeldon, Monmouth.— Bow- st., May 19. Stolen from the person of a lady at Whitstable, Kent, on the 15th instant : a small gold hunting Watch, the outside case has a small glass iu the centre, with blue enamel figures, white face ; had attached a long Guard, imitation gold, with large chain links, fnformation to be given to Superintendent Walker, Kent Constabulary, Canterbury.— Bow- st., May 19. No. 7786, ticket 340; one No. 15695, ticket 27 ; a silver albert Chain, twisted with bar, ticket 600 ; a pair of Boots, ticket 468 ; a pair of man's spring- side Boots, ticket 537 ; a Dress, ticket 654 ; a black cloth Coat, for a youth, bound with braid, short skirt, pockets outside with flaps; a black cloth Coat, ticket 686. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by Mr. Horden to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of tbe offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Stoker, or to Inspector Norman, Police Station, Kettering, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, May 21. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 24th iustant the dwelling- house of George Bennett, situated in the parish of Burham, Kent, was burglariously entered and the following articles, his pro- perty, stolen therein : three Shawls of the following descrip- tion— one black, one black with shape of bird's foot in the centre and black fringe, and one coloured with white fringe and red b, order ; one monkey Jacket, velvet collar, red and black lining and black buttons ; one black cloth Coat, velvet collar, the pocket on the left side has a piece sewn in where it was burnt; 1 lb. of Beef, and 2s. 3d. in Mouey. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hulse, Police Station, West Malling, near Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, May 28. Between 6 p. m. on the 21st aud 6 a. m. on the 22nd inst., the house of Mr. David Plant, of Halesowen- street, Cradley Heath, was entered, aud the following articles stolen therein : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 4063, engraved on tli< » inside of the back case, ' Patent lever, full jewelled,' engine- turned case, with star and garter in centre, and part of the seconds hand broken off; a gold Albert, snake pattern, with a seal attached in a swivel, and a lion on the swivel, the seal is of three different colours, viz., white, green, and blood- colour. A man of the following description, who has lived near and is well acquainted with the premises, is suspected : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, fair complexion, sandy whiskers and moustache, and shaves on the chin ; dressed in a black billycock hat, shabby black or blue cloth dress coat, dark cloth waistcoat dappled with green, and dark cloth trousers ; is a native of Bewdley, Shropshire. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Mills, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 26. During the night of the 18th instant, from the shop of Mr. Peter Horden, pawnbroker, Kettering, the following articles : thirteen silver Watches, with the tickets attached to them as follows : one No. 2293, ticket 655 ; one consular verge, No. 3062, ticket 653 ; one ditto, No. 5690, ticket 640; one No. 1429, supposed Geneva, ticket 614; one pair- case verge, No. 4386, ticket 611 ; one large consular verge, No. 5020, ticket 579 ; one No. 12324, ticket 493 ; one No. 74, ticket 481 ; one verge, No. 1575, with steel Chain attached, ticket 448 ; one small verge hunting, No. 5117 & 5113, winds up in] front, ticket 413; one No. 892, ticket 374; one HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. The Horse described in the Police Gazette of the 23rd inst., as having been stolen at Chester, has been recovered, and the thief arrested by the Dublin Metropolitan Police. The fol- lowing is the description of the man in custody, who is sus- pected of having committed similar offences elsewhere: WILLIAM MOORE, ( which he admits to be false), 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 j inches high, light blue eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, tooth missing from right front of upper jaw, freckled arms, no whiskers or moustache, scar under chin ; dressed in a soft black felt hat, light tweed overcoat, blue cloth vest, light tweed trousers, the buttons upon which are marked ' Jacobs, Oldham- street, Manchester,' elastic side boots, with square toes ; states that he has been a long time in France, Holland, and Belgium, and that he served in the Belgium army 4 years. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester.— Bow- street, May 30. Stolen between 6 a. m. the 2nd, and 9 a. m. on the 3rd instant: a Kent teg Sheep, not known if ewe or wether, if a ewe, tiver mark down neck, and if a wether, down rump, pitchmark ' J. M.' on near side ; the property if Mr. John Mills, Lambs Land Farm, Rolvenden. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, Kent Constabulary, Cran- brook.— Bow- street, May 26. Stolen on the 9th instant, from the Hill Top Farm, Ledbury : a brown mare Pony, aged, about 12i hands high, with long mane and tail. £ 5 reward will be paid on con- viction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 26. Found straying at Milford, Lymington, on the 3rd inst., and supposed to have strayed from New Forest : a dark grey Gelding, about 2 years old, about 11J hands high, white star on forehead, long tail, no shoes on, the letter ' P' on near shoulder, and in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Lyndhurst, or to Sergeant Rodaway, Lymington, Hampshire.— Bow- street, May 23. Stolen on the night of the 10th instant, from Carlton Colville : a dark brown mare Donkey, aged, long shabby coat, hair off top of hip, turns the left forefoot inwards, and is in low condition. Information to be giveu to Inspector Jeffries, Lowestoft, or to P. C. Phillips, Carlton Colville, Suffolk.— Bow- street, May 21. Stolen from a field at Robin Hood Farm, Hallgreen, parish of Yardley, on the night of the 9th instant: a chestnut Gelding, 15 hands high, white spot on forehead ; an iron- grey Filly, about 13 hands high ; and a brown Filly, 14 hands high, small white mark on the inner side of the nostril on the oil' side, white star on forehead, very long mane and tail; all rising 3 years old. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the horses, upon application to Mr. Henry Mills, of the Dartmouth Arms, Dartmouth- street, Birmingham. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Aston, or to Sergeant Higginson, Warwickshire Constabulary, Police Station, Acock's Green, near Birmingham.— Bow- st., May 21. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of JOSHUA WOOD, who absconded from Newcastle- on- Tyne, ou the 23rd instant, charged on a warrant with stealing two £ 5 Bank of Englaud Notes and £ 23 in Gold : a native of Newcastle- upon- Tyne, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, smart military appearance, good address, dark brown hair, cut short, dark moustache aud imperial, no whiskers, rouud small features, figure of a lady tattooed on right arm, ship on breast, and other tattoo marks on arms ; dressed in grey coat, and check cap. Has been a soldier, and obtained his discharge by purchase in 1871. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne, Northumberland.— Bow- street, May 30. Description of ROBERT KITCHING, late of Hall- slack Farm, near Kendal, Westmorland, labourer, who is charged with stealing a grey woollen Overcoat ( recovered) at Hallslack, on the 16th instant: 34 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, whiskers, moustache, aud beard, slightly lound shouldered, and proportionate make ; dressed in dirk tweed coat, with small white spots, fustian trousers, ant! black cloth cap, with cloth peak; he is a native of Beathwaite Green, Westmor- land, is much addicted to drinking, and frequents low public- houses aud beer- shops. He will probably seek employment on some new line of railway or on other public works. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Bird, Constabulary Office, Kendal, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, May 30. 9 POLICE, GAZETTE. May 30 Description of JOHN BROWNE, a hawker, charged on a wariaut with larceny : about 28 years of- age, 5 feat 6} ins. high, rather curly dark browu hair, very slightly pockpitted, cut on right eyebrow, very little whiskers, an irishman, but has been iu Wales from his boyhood, and has resided at Ruthin, Mold, and Bangor. Ho has a hawker's licence granted at Ruthin, 13th of February, 1873. Information to be given to Chief Constable Denman, or to the Police Office, Ruthin.— Bow- street, May 30. Description of a labourer who is charged with haviug on the 28th instaut, at Deeping St. James, absconded with £ 3, the monies of his master, Mr. Eastland, farmer, of Deeping St. Nicholas : he is 25 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, olight build, light blue eyes, thin face, long thiu light whiskers all round his face, has a slouching walk ; dressed in cord trousers, brown fustian slop, with baud round the waist, carried a dark blue pilot jacket on his arm, black billycock, strong lace- up boots, has toe- plates on instead of nails ; he 16 a native of Tilney, near Sutton Bridge. Information to to given to Superintendent Pidgeon, Bourn, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, May 30. Description of DAVID PARSONS, late brewer's travelk'i, who is charged with embezzling the sum of £ 2 lis., received by him for and on account of Henry Wardle and others, his masters : about 35 years of age, 5 feet G or 7 ins. high, slender built, inclined to be round shouldered, pale complexion, light beard aud moustache ( beard inclined to be s mdy), light ° brown hail-, aud of gentlemanly appearance. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Detective Department, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, May 30. Description of FREDERICK PIKE, tanner's labourer, who absconded from Combs, near Stowmarket, on the 24th instant, charged with stealing 80 lbs. of Horse Hair : 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, and beard inclined to be sandy ; dressed iu dark cloth coat, with pockets outside, small striped dark vest, light cci'd trousers, which are stained with tan at the bottoms, and have . V stripe down the seams, blucher boots, and black felt hat. And GEORGE MUDD, is charged with receiving the above : a carpenter, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high ; dressed in brown velveteon coat, with pockets, and light cord trousers. Information to be given to Inspector Balls, Stowmarket, who holds the warrant for their apprehension. — Boio- street, May 28. Description of JOHN HENRY WARD, alias HARRY WOOD, fitter, who is charged with stealing one gold lever Watch, No. 23619, maker— George Slater ; one gold Guard ; one gold Dollar ; and one gold Ring, at Dukenfield, on the 23rd instaut: he is 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair ; dressed in dark tweed suit, blue pilot overcoat, and black billycock hat. His father lives at No. 5, Bruce- grove, Meddows, Nottingham. It is supposed he has made his way to some sea port town for the purpose of emigrating to America. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Arrowsmith, Hyde, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 2S. Absconded on the 23rd instant, from Regent- street, St. James's, charged with stealing .£ 80, viz : 4 £ 5 Bank of England Notes, a Cheque for A' 12, aud the remainder in Gold and Silver, the money's of his master. A man 21 years of age, 5 feet 7i inches high, fair complexion and hair, small tuft on chin, no whiskers ; dressed in dark brown overcoat, darK mourning undercoat, dark vest and trousers, high hat, mourning band, respectable appearance.— Metropolitan Police, May 28. Stolen about 8 a. m. on the 23rd instant, from the Red Lion Hotel, Bedford : a gold Geneva Watch, with gold dial, No. 60527 ; a gold Chain, and Soak attached. By a man of the following description : about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed iu dark clothes aud high hat, and speaks with a foreign accent. Information to be given to Chief Constable Verey, Borough Police Office, Bedford.- Bow- street, May 28. Description of JOHN THOMAS, charged with stealing £ 50 from 317, Goswell- road, on 13th March last: 42 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, sallow complexion, hair and whis- kers dark, meeting under chin ; dressed respectable, formerly kept a jewellers shop in Cable- street, St. George's East. He is a betting man, and is supposed to be in Birmingham or Liverpool.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 26. Absconded on the 17th instant, from Alpha- road, Harrow- road, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 5 12s., the moneys of his master : a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, and slight built ; dressed in dark tweed clothes, aud black billy- cock hat.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, May 26. Stolen on the morning of the 20th inst., from a dwelling- house in the borough of Hartlepool : a silver verge Watch, silver dial, a bird under the figure 12, had attached a silver albert Guard, long links; a French silver hunting Watch, white dial, marked ' Aucre, No. 25006',' on the inner case, had attached a jet albert Guard, long links ; a blue cloth Coat, velvet collar, marked ' Isaac Robinson, West Hartlepool,' ou suspender, aud Vest to match ; a pair of dark Trousers, with small white stripe of silk running through them, aud fly fronts ; and two white Shirts, linen fronts, marked ' J. E.' By a printer, who lodged in the house, a native of London, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, very small eyes, dark complexion and moustache, aud long beard on end of chin; dressed in dark brown top coat, black and grey striped trousers and vest, and tall hat; he is generally of shabby genteel appearance and good address. He is likely to seek employment at printing offices. He is a member of the printers' society, anel may ask relief. Information to be given to Head Constable Shiels, Hartlepool, Durham.— Bow- street, May 23. Absconded from the City, on the 19th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: FREDK. HODGSON, 18 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light sandy hair ( curly), and grey eyes ; dressed in a brown overcoat, blue under ditto, mixture trousers, and billycock hat; is believed to be accompanied by his brother John, 20 years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, fair complexion, and a young man named Tom or Thomas Walter, alias Walter Dennis, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, and fresh complexion ; both were dressed in dark clothes audj billycock hats. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Detective Office, 26, Old Jewry, E. G.— Bow- street, May 21. Absconded on the 8th instant, charged with stealing ,£ 10 : a man 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very dark complexion, half caste, slight figure, small hands and feet; dressed in plain dark clothes, and black felt hat ; has been in tke army. Information to be given at the Detective Depart- ment, Scotland Yard.— Metropolitan Police, May 21. Absconded on the 15th instant, from Gloucester- square, Paddiugton, charged with stealiug a drab livery great Coat, silver buttons, crest— a helmet, motto ' Mon Trevor' thereon ; a pair of livery Trousers ; a black Hat, with cockade; and a .£ 10 Bank of England Note: a youth, 16 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion aud hail'; supposed to be dressed in the stolen clothes.- - Metropo- litan Police, D Division, May 21. Absconded on the 16th instant, from Arundel- street, Strand, charged with stealing £ 3 in Gold : a mau, 20 years of age, 6 feet high, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in a black walking coat, Irish frieze trousers and vest, round black hat, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 21.
