Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desires! that any person should bo appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence chargcd, and an attested copy thereof, together with tie Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the afternoon of the 13th instant the dead body of a newly- born Female Child was found in an ashpit in Bankfield- road, Huddersfield, with the throat cut and several other marks of extreme violence, and when so found could not have born more than twenty- four hours. The body was wrapped in a small list rug, a piece of an old print dress, and a ' Leeds Mercury' newspaper, dated 1st instant. A reward of .£ 50 will be paid by the Government, to any person who shall give such information anil evidence as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and that the Secretary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Chief Constable Withers, Borough Police Office, Huddersfield.— Bow- street April 21. FORGERY. Description of JOHN JOSEPH CRUNDEN, late of Ipswich, Suffolk, accountant, who is charged on a warrant with forgery at Colchester, on the 12th instant: he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 4i inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, scar on left knee, leg, and thumb, and two scars on right shin bone ; was born at Fulbourne, in the county of Cambridge, and late in the employ of Mr. Peter Bruff, as clerk, at Ipswich. He was convicted at the assizes at Ipswich, 29th March, 1872, for forgery ; he has a wife residing at Guildford, Surrey. Information to be given to Head Constable Downes, Town Hall, Colchester, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., April 25. Absconded from Whitlyford, in the parish of Chetwynd, in the county of Salop, charged with forging and uttering a request Note, for the delivery of goods, with intent to defraud Peter Kelly, of Newport, on the 10th March, 1873 : SAMUEL CARTWRIGHT, groom or stableman, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, sharp or tbinish features, short neck, light brown hair, has generally been employed as groom or stableman at farm houses. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wel- lington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Born- street, April 18. dent near the spring, with a long gold Chain ( large single link pattern) attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, April 21. Stolen from the person on the race- hill at Brighton, on the 15th instant: an English lever gilt gold Watch, with gold Chain, of long links, and a small Locket in shape of a match- box attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton.— Bow- strett, April 18. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 19th instant, the saddle- room of H. Grazebrook, Esq., Clent, was entered, and the following property stolen" therein : a black frock Coat, with silk velvet collar; a white Vest; two black cloth Vests; a black cloth livery Coat; a brown mixture cloth Jacket aud Vest; a pair of dark grey tweed Trousers ; and a silver Geneva Watch, double- cased, with brass Chain attached. A reward of £ 4 will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to Superintendent Freeman, Stour- bridge, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 23. During the night of the 15th or morning of the 16th instant, the residence of Mr. C. Cooper, Port Vale, Hertford, was broken and entered, and .£ 10 in Gold, and a brown leather Cigar- case stolen therein : it is supposed that the offender wrapped the money in a printed list of books, as a portion of the paper was left in the house. Information to be given to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hert- ford.— Bow- street, April 18. Further particulars respecting the burglary at Hurley, Berks, on the night of the 23rd ultimo, wlien the following I Articles were stolen : a gold Snuff Box, about 3 inches long and lj deep, engraved on the outside ; a cocoanut silver- mounted Nutmeg Grater, ornamented ; a Dutch made silver f Corkscrew, in the shape of a seal, the handle has the figure of a i rabbit at one end, when the figure is unscrewed the corkscrew appears, marked ' C. S. P., August 2, 1872;' a silver Tea 1 Spoon of the reign of George I ; a small silver Sugar Ladle, open work at bottom, Dutch made; a small round silver basket, about 4 inches in circumference, the handle falls on one side, filigree work ; a small round silver Tray, about 3i inches in circumference, bead pattern, one handle broken off, has a Maltese cross stamped on bottom ; a small two- bladed Office Kuife, one malachite handle ; two small three- bladed ditto, one pearl handle, the other ivory ; a lady's small ivory Case, containing Scissors, Thimble, & c., marked ' C. S. P.' re versed ; six brass gilt Weights, from i lb. to J oz. ; a white ivory double Opera Glass, maker Cam, 24, rue de la Paix, Paris, No. 12 verres; a dark single- breasted Overcoat, two pockets on right and one on left, inside, and a small ticket pocket outside ; a silver Mustard Spoon, crest— Tower and Bird ; aud a dark wideawake hat. Information to be . given to Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maidenhead, who will, on the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, pay £ 10 reward.— Bow- street, April 18. servant, who absconded from Mungrisdale, Greystoke. near Penrith, on the 8th instant, cliarged with stealing four Sheep, which he disposed of at Penrith Auction Mart, the property of Mr. Peter Graham, Mtmgrisdale, farmer, the sheep hare been recovered : he is 25 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, slender figure, long light hair, light thin whiskers round the chin, may be wearing a slight moustache, thin face, fair complexion, eyes sunken, dull, and heavy looking ; dressed in a dark shooting coat, with yellow lining, dark trousers and waistcoat, slender lace boots, and black billycock hat, with broad black cloth band ; carried a new waterproof reversible topcoat, black one side, and white the other. Had with him a dark, rough, long haired Scotch cur Dog. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, or at the County Chief Con- stable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, April 21. Stolen from Igburgh, Mundford, on the night of the 11th instant : a bay mare Pony, about 11 hands high, 4 yeara old, long mane and tale, two K's on each side, and both ears cat; thefproperty of William Thompson, Igburgh. Information to be given to Superintendent Lambley, Swaffham. — Bow- street, April 21. Stolen on the 9th or 10th, from a field at Northolt, a chestnut cart Mare, aged, 14 hands high, a little grey on forehead, saddle- marked, long mane and tail, in foal, and in good condition. Supposed by two men with a horse and cart : one is 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark pale complexion, and dressed in cord jacket with fustian back, tight^ fitting trousers, dark striped cloth trousers ; the other is 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, with dark complexion, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in a dark witaey overcoat and black round felt hat; had the appearance of horse copers. Horse a bay cob ; an old cart, shajft tied with string. — Metropolitan Police, X Division, April 18. • ft Stolen on the lltli or 12th instant, from a Dark at Isle- worth, a bay Cob, 15 hands high, aged, and off fore fetlock enlarged.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, April 18. Stolen from Llansantffraid, Montgomeryshire, on the night of the 12th instant: a dark brown male Ass, middle size, white hair on back from saddle mark, the property of David Williams, shoemaker. Information to be given to P. C. Joces, Llansantffraid, or at the Deputy Chief Constable's Office, Welchpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 18. Farther information respecting the Horse, Cart, and Gears, stolen from a stable at Oldham, on the 9th instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant: they were all recovered the same day, at Mobberley, Cheshire, and the following is the description of a man who was seen with the Horse aud Cart at Clayton Bridge, near Manchester, at 5 a, m., and is known to be the same person who stole the Horse and Vehicle from Royton, on the 30th January last, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh com- plexion, and dark brown h-> ir ; dressed in a light round jacket, brown trousers, with black stripe down legs, short leggings, fastened with three or four straps, and black billy- cock hat; had an old- fashioned silver Watch, with steel Guard attached. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Hodgkinson, Town Hall, Oldham, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Aprd 18. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of William Easton, a navvy, in a public - house at Whitchurch, on the afternoon of the 17th instant : an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, No. 2500, m iker Brown, Dover, ' W. Nelmes,' engraved on the inside of case. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol.— Bow- street, April 25. Stolen at the Cheltenham Races ou the 17th instant : An old- fashioned chased gold lever Watch, French make, medium size, maker Roy, Fil. A silver English lever Watch, No. 12645, maker Skar- ratt, Worcester. A gold Watch, scratched inside dome ' 0/- /- No. 772', a fold Albert Chain ( pattern small round links) and locket ( black enamelled, ' In remembrance of' in white letters on one side, plain chased the other) attached. A gold signet Ring, with large heart- shaped white stone, black stone round. Three gold Rings, one set with a blue turquoise, one with a green emerald, and the other with a pearl. A gold Geneva Watch, white face, mainspring broken, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen between the 17th and 22nd instant, from Ash- down Forest, in the parish of Maresfield, Sussex: nine Welsh Ewes in lamb, marked on the rump with the letter ' P.' in black pitch, which is nearly obliterated, and a red mark on the poll. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Peerless, Uckfield, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, April 25. Stolen between 5' 30 p. m. on the 18th, and 7.30 a. m. on the 19th instant, from a stable in the Seven Sisters- road, Tottenham : a black nag Mare, 15i hands high, lump on back, had on a Sackcloth,' Lucas and Brothers,' contractors, thereon. — Metropolitain Polce, N Division, April 25. Absconded from his bail on the 21st instant, charged with horse sharping : JOHN SHICKEY, alias JOE BUL- LOCK, of 20, Aberdeen- place, St. Johns Wood, 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, bald, black whis- kers, blue eyes ; dressed in black frock coat, vest aud trousers, high black hat, with mourning band, wairant issued.— Metro politan Police, E Division, April 25. Stolen on the 17th or 18th instant, from a field in New- road, Dulwich : a bright bay Mare, 4 years old, 15 hands high, black legs, scar ou near hind leg, no shoes on.— Metro- politan Police, P Division, April 23. Stolen on the 17th instant, from King's road, Chelsea : a dun Cob, with hog mane, 14 hands high, silver plated Harness, and a Gig, painted black, picked out with red. By a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion ; dressed in grey suit and black hat.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, April 23. Stolen from a field in Ware, on the 16th instant, a dark bay Mare, agec(, about 13 hands high, white star on forehead, black legs, long tail, just below the hocks ; both knees have been slightly cut; clipt half way up legs and under her belly ; when going carries her head down. Information to be given to Superintendent Thomas Bygrave, Ware, Herts.— Bow- street, April 21. Description of SAMUEL GUARDHOUSE, a farm LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. A warrant has been issued at Tunbridge Wells, for the apprehension of CHARLES CHRISTOPHER ELLIS, who absconded on the 16th instant, charged with embezzling various sums, amounting to £ 70, the monies of his master Mr. Samuel Joseph Hitchman, coal merchant, to whom he was clerk : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slight figure, dark hair, slightly grey, hazel eyes, sallow complexion, cheeks fall in by the side of the mouth, has two very prominent upper front teeth, a slight moustache, and little whiskers ; dressed in dark blue cloth coat, with velvet collar, dark vest and trousers, and lace boots ; he was formerly a supervisor in the Inland Revenue Office, at Wad- hurst, Sussex. £ 5 reward will be given for his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Constable Embery, Tun- bridge Wells.— Bow- street, April 25. During the night of 20th instant, a man of the name of JAMES BARR or DARE, absconded from his lodgings at Norham, Northumberland, stealing and taking with him two pairs of double Blankets, one frackled dark cloth Greatcoat, one winsey Gown, trimmed with black velvet up the breast: is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, ginger whiskers, brown hair, and wears a greatcoat, much worn and sunburnt, with black velvet neck, moleskin trousers much worn and patched on both knees, both legs bent out, left hand all blistered and skinned inside, and supposed'to have been foreman in Martin Demcy's Marine Storehouse, Gateshead. Information to be given to Superintendent Marshall, Lowick, Northumberland, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 25. Absconded from Middlesborough on the 9th instant, charged with embezzlement: CHAS. or CHRISTOPHER POWELL, a clerk, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, large black whiskers round face, large black moustache, broad face, large features, and red scar- on right temple ; dressed when last seen in a black cloth shooting coat and vest, striped cloth trousers, dark brown cloth overcoat, dark round hat, and lace- up boots ; a native of Darlington. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Mid- dlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 25. Absconded from Christchurch Barracks, on the 9th inst., charged with stealing a pair of dark cloth Trousers, a £ 5 Bank of England Note, and £ 6 in Gold: CHARLES KING, an officer's servant and driver in the A Battery, B Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair, small dark whiskers, and sallow complexion ; dressed in dark clothes, overcoat, and black round felt hat. Information to be given at the Police Station, Christchurch, Hants.— Bow- street, April 25. Description of CHARLES ARTHUR NICHOLLS, charged with stealing at Egham, ou the 11th instant, a .£ 20 Bank of England Note ( recovered) : about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, no beard or whiskers, slight moustache, rather thin, good look- ing, of very respectable appearance, rather round shouldered, and rolls his head from side to side when walking. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, April 23. Absconded on the 17th instant, from Twickenham, charged with stealing three pieces of black Silk, measuring respectively 35 yards, 40 yards, aud 60 vards : a man, 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, thin, sallow complexion, dark eyes, black hair aud whiskers, hollow cheeks, slightly deaf, aud speaks low ; dressed in black suit and high hat; is of respectabla appearance and good address.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, April 23. Description of JOHN PURKIS, charged with stealing at Bagshot, on the 14th instant, a pair of Boots: about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair, cut short, no whiskers, freckled face, and is a barber ; dressed in an old dark trown overcoat, no vest, old soft billycock hat, and dark brown trousers. Information to be given to Super- intendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey, who holds a waraaut for his apprehension. - Bow- street, April 23. Description of WILLIAM HELT, a labourer, for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted, charged with felony : he is a native of Severn Stoke, Worcestershire, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionately made, light brown hair aud whiskers, high cheek bones, light com- plexion, walks very flat- footed, turns his toes outwards ; dressed in black bowler hat, dark cloth coat, light cloth trousers and vest, nailed lace- up shoes. A reward of £ 2 will be given on his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Chipp, Coleford, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, April 21. Description of WILLIAM HYDE, who absconded from Burton- on- Trent, on the 4th instant, charged with stealing from his employer, three French Timepieces, round drum larum, and about 3i inches across the face : he is a clock aud watchmaker by trade, about 43 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 ins. high, high broad shoulders, sandy hair and whiskers, the latter all round face, shaves upper lip, bald on top of his head, aud has lost the forefinger of right hand at first joint; dressed in dark shabby clothes, tall felt hat, and old shabby boots ; he stated that he was a native of Bristol, where he was formerly in business as a jeweller. Information to be given to Superintendent Oswell, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., April 21. Absconded from Walsall, Staffordshire, stealing a gold finger Ring, white stud in centre, 36 Five- shilling Pieces, and £ 85 in Bank of England Notes : a youth 20 years of age, but looks younger, 5 feet 7 inches high, auburn hair, fair com- plexion, slender made; dressed in b ue dress coat, grey trousers, aud hard black hat, or black double breasted frock coat, fancy vest, grey trousers, aud hard black hat, hair cut short behind, stoops when walking. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Police Office, Walsall, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, April 21. Stolen on the I9th instant, from the Lord Raglan lodging- house, Swindon : a large heavy woollen plaid Shawl, green ground with a black aud violet stripe, which has been torn and darned about an inch in one corner. By a tramping mason and his wife ; the man is 23 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, and dressed in black frock coat and bowler hat ; the woman is 22 years of age, tall aud thin, aud dressed in black straw hat, black cloth jacket, old rusty frock, and red crinoline, and carried a chip basket. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, April 21. Description of ROBERT GEORGE EARL, who has absconded from Portsmouth, charged with stealiug Lead from a building : hj is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, stoops slightly from the shoulders ; he is a coach builder, and is believed to have gone to London. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Barber, Portsmouth, Hants, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 18. Absconded on the 11th instant, from Bernard- street, Russsll- square, charged with stealing one j> 10 and three £ 5 Bank of England Notes, one indorsed ' Fownes': a man 21 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, and no whiskers or moustache; dressed in dark coat, pockets on hips, aud deerstalker hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 18. Further information respecting JOHN RICHARD PHILLIPS, a clerk, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th March last, who absconded from Aberpergum, Glyn Neath, on the eveuing of the 21st ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzling Money, the monies of his master Morgan Stuart Williams, Esq.: he is 28 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair and whiskers, clean shaved chin, rather inclined to be stout, right little finger hooked, rather near sighted, and is a native of Ystradgunlais, Breconshire; dressed in a brown eloth overcoat, dark cloth trousers, and black bowler hat. £ i0 reward will be paid for his apprehension, or for such infor- mation as will lead to a like result. Photographs will be supplied to any Superintendent or Inspector of Police on application. Information to be given to Superintendent Howlett, County Constabulary Office, Neath, Glamorgan. — Bow- street, April 18. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of a man who obtained a sum of money from a lady at Aston, near Birmingham, by false pretences, oat the 19th instant: he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 melius high, dark hair and whiskers, and ruddy eomp'exion ; dressed in a black frock coat, black waistcoat, black and white striped trousers, and black soft felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Police Station, Aston, near Bir mingham.— Bow- atreet, April 25. Description of ROBERT HEMMINGS, who lodged at 39, New- buildings, Coventry, and absconded on the 21st instant, charged with fraud by advertising in certain news- papers that he wanted several ladies to copy manuscript ser- mons for supply to the clergy, and could furnish such work weekly on deposit of ten shillings with him as a guarantee for the due performance of such work, thereby obtaining from divers persons several sums of money with intent to cheat and defraud. He is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin build, brown hair, slightly bald on forepart of the head, brown whiskers, beard and moustache, is very near- sighted, delicate looking, and of good address; dresses respectably, generally in black cloth, double- breasted frock coat, mixture trousers, and soft brown coloured round jim- crow hat. He walks with an awkward stooping gait, aud has the appearance of a schoolmaster or lecturer. Supposed to be in London, working in conjunction with a woman a similar system of fraud. Information to be given to Chief Constable Norris, Coventry.— Bow- street, April 25. Description of PAUL COLMAEL, alias PERCY, charged with obtaining the sum of .£ 15 from Israel Goldman, on the 17th February last, at the borough of Kingston- upon- Hnll : he is a German, speaks English fluently, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight make, dark moustache, respectably dressed, good musician, and may be engaged as pianist at some place of amusement. £ 2 2s. reward and all reasonable expenses will be paid on his apprehention. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, April 23. Description of MATTHEW BARRETT, charged on a warrant with obtaining money by false pretences ; about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair, slight whiskers and ( supposed) moustache, and dark complexion; dressed in a black cloth suit and low felt hat. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street, April 18. A warrant is issued at Castle Eden, for the apprehension of THOMAS BAIRSTON, a license- holder, who absconded from Sunderland, charged with obtaining .£ 1 by fraud from James Newman, at Wingate, on the 31st ultimo.
