POLICE GAZETTE. IS AUFTORITG. CONTAINING Tho tvbttoiti of all Information* received in oases of FeUmy and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, rep& M Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged iwtfc Offence* who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Tho Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that hat been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 5333 FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 1873. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information Bhould be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested oopy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mniit be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It it requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 28th ultimo, a man named Richard Pardoe was stabbed in the thigh at Lye Waste, by a man named ZACHARIAH HILL, who has since absconded : he is about 51 years of age, about 5 feet 6 iuches high, pale com- plexion, dark brown hair aud whiskers ( rather small), lame of the left leg from a wound ; and is a horsenail maker, but has recently followed the trade of a pork butcher. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 14. On the night of the 25th ultimo, the body of Edwin Lambert, game keeper to Edmund Calverly, Esq., of Oultou Hall, near Leeds, was fouud on the side of the river Aire, near Lemouroyd Lock, Oulton, with his legs in the water, and a gun shot wouud behind the left ear, shattering the temporal bone, aud penetrating the brain, aud on the 28tli ultimo, au adjourned inquest was held, when a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given at the Superin- tendent's Office, Wakefield, Yorkshire.— Bow- st., March 7. FORGERY. Absconded from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on I the 11th instant, charged with forgery: FREDERICK PERRY, clerk, a native of Chelvers Coton, Warwickshire,' 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, dark, eyes, brown hair, light moustache aud whiskers ; dressed in a grey suit, black necktie with blue edges, round black felt' hat, and sidespriug boots ; has been traced to Keysoe, Bed- fordshire, where he stated he was making his way for London. A photograph can be had ou application. Information to be 1 given to Superintendent Poole, Police Station, Welling- borough, Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 17. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 17th instant, a store room at Oxley House, Bushbury, was broken into and stolen therein : a double barrel muzzle loading Gun, maker Aston, Birming- ham, back action locks, ha? a dent on left hand barrel, near the muzzle; a pruning Knife, with dark buck- horn haft. Information to be given to Inspector McCrea, Tettenhall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 21. During the night of the 7th instant, a draper's shop at Heckmondwike, was entered ( supposed by false keys), aud stolen therein: five pieces of plain black Silk, of various lengths, from 30 to 40 yards each, and from 20 to 24 inches wide j a piece of black figured Silk, 60 yards long and 24 ins. wide; twelve pieces of Silk, in dress lengths of 15 yards each, various colours ; and about £ 7 in Gold and Silver. A reward of £ 5 will be paid for the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders, and a further reward of £ 5 for the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Airton, West Riding Constabulary Office, Dewsbury.— — Bow- street, March 12. Between 5" 30 and 830 p. m. on the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Christopher Spencer, of Hurdsfield, near Macclesfield, was entered by picking the lock of the back door, and stolen therein : six silver Tea Spoons, large size, one dented at the end ; two metal Table Spoons ; two Salt Spoons ; and about 5s. in Copper. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Macclesfield, or to Police Constable Batty, Rainow, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 12. Description of WILLIAM WEBB, charged on warrant with breaking into the shop of Henry and Lewis Jones, in Brighton, ou the 6th instant, aud stealing twenty- six Watches and other Jewellery, as described in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant : 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, long thin pale face, and red blotches all over face and body ; dressed in an old black coat, with pockets on hips, very greasy old round felt hat, old black cloth trousers, and old rough brown waistcoat, without button holes and pinned r. miiil him. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, March 12. On the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of Colonel Blackburn, of Leamington, was burglariously entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a silver soup Ladle, crest — a lion's head ; two sauce Ladles, same crest; a butter Knife; two tea Pots, crest — cock and trumpet ; two salt Spoons, same crest; two gravy Spoons, same crest; eighteen dinner Forks, crest either— a liou's head or cock and trumpet ; eight dessert Forks, same crest; eleven table Spoons, same crest; two egg Spoons, same crest; a cruet Stand ; an old Tea- pot; aud a butter Knife. Who- ever shall give such information as may lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall receive .£ 10 reward. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Baschurch Steeple Chases, on the 13th instant: a ruby and diamond' Pin, horse- shoe shape. £ 1 reward will be paid to any person ' who will give informatoiu that will lead to tho apprehension of the offender and recovery of the pin. Description of property stolen from the person while attending rugby Races, on the 4th instant: 1 gold lever double cased Watch, white face, plain figures,' No. 11386, maker Mccabe, London, ill) reward, i 1 gold double- cased old- fashioned lever Watch, No. 324, maker Hennsey, Swansea, ' Allen, Neath,' engraved inside, a gold albert Chain, plain link, and long Key' with purple stone, attached. I 1 old- fashioned silver Geneva Watch, with gold albert Chain, plain link, and gold Prussian Coin attached. 1 gold enamelled Pin, set with diamonds, round shape, portrait of a lady painted on it, painter's name in small letters, ' Lommenne,' ou front. £ 15 reward. 1 gold Pin, in the shape of a horseshoe, set with diamonds. £ 10 reward. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the North Eastern Railway Station, Darlington, on the 3rd instant: a gold lever Watch, No. 16390, maker M. Young & Sons, New- castle. Information to be given to Superintendent Rogers, Police Station, Darlington, Durham.— Bowsimt, March 10, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen ou the 13th instant, from a field at Wandsworth- comnion : a chestnut Horse, 15 hauds high, 4 years old, hiud legs and face white, small white spot on off hind quarter. — Metropolitan Police, V Division, March 21. Stolen on the night of the 8th instant, from Wanstead Park : a dark brown Mare, 7 or 8 years old, 14J hands high, thick set, saddle- marked, star on forehead, long mane, bang tail, one hind foot a little white, one shoe deficient iu front, and in fair condition. Information to be given at the Police Station, Wanstead, Essex, or to W. H. Widdowson, 32, Stock- well- road, Clapham, Surrey.— Bow- street, March 14. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from St. Michael Cwmdu, Breconshire : a Hereford bred Cow, 3 years old, red colour, white face, broad horns, scissors mark on off side of rump. Stolen on the 18th instant, from a bed- room at a public- house at Leighton Buzzard : two black cloth Coats, one double- breasted and nearly new ; a grey cloth Vest, double- breasted ; a black cloth Vest ; a pair of grey cloth Trousers, with stripes down the Bides; a pair of dark blue Trousers", such as are worn by grooms ; and a pair of side- spring Boots, nearly new. By a man about 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, very slight built, thin face, rather sandy hair and whis- kers ; dressed in a brown suit, low- crowned black hat; he plays a banjo at public- houses, and had a large black bag with him. Information to be given to Superintendent Clough, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, March 21. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Newcastle- on- Tyne, on the 18th instant: a small silver Geneva Watch ; " a gold breast Pin, round coral head ; a small gold Pencil- case ; a gold dress Ring, set with light hair, has ' 1808' inside ; and a long black dress Coat, with dark lining, black velvet collar, nearly new. By VICTOR LINCE, a Belgian, fitter, about 28 years of age, about 5 feet high, fair complexion, brown hair, small whiskers and moustache, speaks French und broken English ; diessed in black cloth top coat, long make, striped cloth trousers, white silk scarf, knitted [ Scotch cap, with peak of same material, bound with black silk ribbons ; he left Newcastle by the 11 a. m. train, on the 18th instant, and is supposed to have gone to London or Manchester, had a brown leather trunk and a brown box, with ' V. Lince' painted on the lid. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Nicholls, Police Office, Newcastle- on- Tyne, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- stretl, March 21. Absconded on the 11th instant, charged with stealing from a bed- room at Falmouth, the property of Francis Anglesea: a gold English WatcO, single case; a long gold Chain with appendage in the shape of a hand holding a green stone; two half Doubloons; an American Dollar; a Seal with yellow stone; a Watch Key; two Rings set with diamonds in the shape of a claw ; a Ring with a blood- stone ; a King with three stones ; a pair of Eyeglasses with black ribbon attached ; a Pin in the shape of a horseshoe; and certain Wearing Apparel : JAMES KENNEDY, late of the 12th Brigade Royal Aitillery, 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, sandy mous- tache ; dressed in light worsted cord trousers, black waist- coat, buttoned to the neck, blue cloth monkey jacket, with two yellow anchor buttons under the collar, blue necktie, with gold pin in the shape of a horseshoe, round black felt hat, Wellington boots. The gold chain, American dollar, one of the half doubloons, aud one of the diamond rings have been recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Grant, Helston, or to Inspector Middle, Falmouth, who holds a warrant foi his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 21. Stolen from 113, Mill- street, Crewe, about 6' 30 a. m. on the 19th instant: a black cloth dress Coat: a dark cloth Waistcoat, double breasted, and has light spots in it; a pair of black cloth Trousers, and a pair of dark brown Braces. By a man who obtained lodgings there the previous night : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stoutish build, large head, sallow complexion, dark hair aud eye.*, on whiskers, but a small moustache, has a large dimple in the chin, aud has lost several front teeth ; dressed iu dark cloth trousers, with two patches ou the seat, dark brown cloth jacket and waistcoat, black billycock hat, old puce woollen shirt, with a hole iu each elbow, aud a pair of elastic side boots. A lodger wrote a letter for him to a beer- house ia Jewel street, Manchester, which house he said a relative kept, he stated that he had obtained employment at a saddler's, in Mill- street, Crewe, which was false, he also stated that he had been working at Nantwich, he says he is a saddler, but looks more like a shoemaker. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Polica Station, Crawe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 21. H. Lavers, timber merchant: 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, a few whiskers on each side° of his face, clean shaved chin, pale face, carries his head a little foward, and looks on the ground ; dressed in dark clothes aud high black bat. Information to be given to Superintendent Isgate, Heuiel Hempstead, Herts, who hold* the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 19. Absconded, charged with forgery under Belgian Extra- dition Treaty: FIRMIN CONSTANT DUFOUR, alias VANPOORTEN, alias CONSTANT VANNIKER, a Belgian, 23 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 5 or C inohes high, proportionately built, fair complexion, hair, and mous- tache, ( slight), beard and whiskers which are bushy towards chin, well dressed, speaks English fluently ; has a large white curly dog, kept the Queen's Arms public- house iu Oxford- street, and the Norfolk Arms, Half- moon - crescent, Caledonian - road. Has a wife whose maiden name was Eugenie Vanderstracten, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 iuches high, fair complexion, brown hair ; generally weara a pink rosette, aud sealskin jacket. They may take a public- house in the country, or make their way to America. Warrant at Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard.— — Metropolitan Police, March 19. Absconded from Hinckley, ou the 11th instant, charged with stealing £ 50, the monies belonging to the Hinckley and Country Permanent Benefit Building Society ; GEORGE 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. — March 21 MARSDEN BROCKLEHURST, accountant, 55 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches higb, proportionate made, brown hair, and whiskers meet under the chin, rather bald on top of head, fresh complexion, full face, addicted to drink, near sighted, wears spectacles, rather deaf, and walks shufflingly ; dressed when he left home in a light tweed coat, dark trousers, black billycock hat, had with him a dark thin overcoat, and a small flagon basket. Information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Hinckley Constabulary Station, Leicestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 19. Further particulars respecting JOSEPH WALLEN- STEIN, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th instant : he has been convicted, in the name of WM. KREEMER, at Reading, in June, 1868, of larceny, 3 months ; at Reading, in October, 1868, of larceny, 9 mouths; at Bourne, in No- vember, 1869, of larceny, 1 month; at Lincoln, in March, 1870, of burglary, 2 vears and 7 years' police supervision ; and at Derby Assizes,' in July, 1872, of burglary, 0 months and 7 years' police supervision; he is now charged with failing to report himself at the latter place, in accordance with the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. Stolen from a till in the borough of Middlesbrough, on the 11th instant: about 15s. in silver Monies.
