Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. *„* Whenever it is deBircsl that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Setters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be mado. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Oliice, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. In- Information to be given to Chief Constable Torrens, Town Hall, Salford, Lancashiie.— Bow- street, March 1U. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 28th ultimo, a man named Richard Pardoe was stabbed iu the thigh at Lye Waste, by a man named ZACHARIAH HILL, who has since absconded : he is about 51 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, pale com- plexion, dark brown hair and whiskers ( rather small), lame of the left leg from a wound ; and is a horsenail maker, but has recently followed the trade of a pork butcher. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for liis apprehension.— Bow- street, March 14. On the night of the 25th ultimo, the body of Edwin Lambert, game keeper to Edmund Calverly, Esq., of Oulton Hall, near Leeds, was found on the side of the river Aire, near Lemouroyd Lock, Oulton, with his legs in the water, and a gun shot wound behind the left ear, shattering the temporal bone, aud penetrating tha brain, and on the 28th ultimo, an adjourned inquest was held, when a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Stolen from the person of Mr. Maidins, West Ashby, at Horncastle Steeple- chases, ou the Gth instant : a silver patent lever Watch, No. 9349, silver flowered face, gold hands and ligures, seconds hand steel. Information to be given to Superintendent Jarvis, Horncastle, Lincolnshire.— Buw- strcet, March 10. Stolen at about 11- 15 p. m. on the 5th instant, from the person of a gentleman at Salford : a gold Watch, centre seconds, No. 72782, with white dial and engine- turned cases. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 7th instant, a draper's shop at Heckmondwike, was entered ( supposed by false keys), and stolen therein: five pieces of plain black Silk, of various lengths, from 30 to 40 yards each, and from 20 to 24 inches wide ; a piece of black figured Silk, 60 yards long and 24 ins. wide; twelve pieces of Silk, in dress lengths of 15 yards each, various colours ; and about £ 7 in Gold and Silver. A reward of £ 5 will be paid for the apprehension aud con- viction of the offender or offenders, and a further reward of £ 5 for the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Airton, West Riding Constabulary Oflice, Dewsbury.— — Bow- street, March 12. Between 5' 30 and 8' 30 p. m. on the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Christopher Spencer, of Hurdsfield, near Macclesfield, was entered by picking the lock of the back door, and stolen therein : six silver Tea Spoons, large size, one dented at the end ; two metal Table Spoons ; two Salt Spoons ; and about 5s. in Copper. Description of WILLIAM WEBB, charged on warrant with breaking into the shop of Henry and Lewis Jones, in Brighton, on the Gth instant, aud stealingf" wenty- 6ix Watches and other Jewellery, ; is described iu the Police Gazette of the 10th instant : 19 years of age, 5 feet G or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, long thin pale face, and red blotches all over face and body ; dressed iu ail old black coat, with pockets on hips, very greasy old round felt hat, old black cloth trousers, and old rough brown waistcoat, without button holes and pinned round him. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Low- street, March 12. On the night of the CIU instant, the dwelling- house of Colonel Blackburn, of Leamington, was burglariously entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a silver soup Ladle, crest — a lion's head ; two sauce Lndlfes, same crest; a butter Knife; two tea Pots, ci- est — cock and trumpet ; two salt Spoons, same crcst ; two gravy Spoons, same crest ; eighteen dinner Forks, crest either— a lion's head or cock aud trumpet ; eight dessert Forks, same crest; eleven table Spoons, same crest; two egg Spoons, same crest; a cruet Stand ; an old Tea- pot; and a butter Knife. Who- ever shall give such information as may lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall receive £ 10 reward. During the night, of the 4th instant, the sarhlle- ronms at Stoughtou Grange, in the county of Leicester, were broken and entered, aud the following property stolen • herein : 1 light tweed Coat and Waistcoat with sleeves, nearly new, buttons stamped ' Boden & Swingler, Leicester.' 2 pairs of black cloth Trousers, one pair nearly new, buttons ditto. 1 pair of black Bedford cord Trousers, buttons ditto. 1 old black cloth Coat. 1 pair of top Boots, tops ten off. 1 old stable Waistcoat. 1 red, white, and black flannel Shirt. 2 white cotton Shirts. 1 pair of men's elastic- side Boots. 2 pairs of cotton Stockings. 1 black Mackintosh, with light- coloured lining. 1 dark bronze Scarfpin, with boar's head and huntsman's horn round it. 2 plated Scarfpins, one with blue stone in centre. 4 Sovereigns, 7 Half- sovereigns, and £ 1 13s. !) d. in Silver. 1 brown leather Strap, about 4 feet long, with plated buckle. 1 carpet Bug. Stolen on the night of the 4th instant, from a field at Sunningdale, Old Windsor : a black- faced teg Sheep marked with a red dot on the left hind quarter, in low condition, the property of Mr. Edward Rawlings. Information to be given to Inspector Mansell, Police Station, Clewer, Berks.— Bow- street, March 12. Absconded, charged with stealing a light grey Mare, rising 5 years, 15 hands 2 inches high, bang tail, thorough bred ; a light park Saddle, marked ' Parker, Knightsbridge Green a double Bridle and nose brand Martingale. By a man, 2G years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark comploxion, hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in a black frock coat' high felt hat. and light tight fitting trousers; military appearance.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, March 12. Stolen on the 5th instant, from Posenhall, Salop, the property of Mr. Acton, Brockton, a valuable dark brown hack Horse, 5 years old, about 15 hands high, recently clipped, bang tail, a bit of white on the end of nose, and hied fetlocks white ; also a Saddle with double girths, and a single- rein Bridle with double snaffle bit. Supposed by a man from 30 to 35 years of age, dressed in a blue moukev jacket, dark trousers, and top hat. £ 10 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Thomas, Much Wenlock, Salop.— Bow- street, March 10. Stolen between 6 30 p. m. on the 4th and 5 a. m. on the 5th instant, from a stable in Salford : a light bay Horse about 5 years old, from 14 to 15 hands high, hind lees wh^ tejip to hocks, white star on forehead, w1. ite streak down face, and white on nose end, short thick neck. Suspicion is attached to a man of the following description: about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and tuft on chin, projrortionately built ; dressed in a dark blue overcoat, buttoned up close to neck, white muffler, and billycock hat, and is supposed to have come from Yorkshire. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the horse. Stolen ou the 24th ultimo, from St. Michael Cwmdn, Breconshire : a Hereford bred Cow, 3 years old, red colour, white face, broad lioms, scissors mark on off side of rump. Absconded ou the 10th instant, from Goodge- street, Tottenham Court- road, charged with stealing £ 20 in Gold aud Silver, the monies of his master : a man, 28 years of age, £> feet 3 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair aud eyes, no whiskers, small imperial, bow- legged ; dressed in brown overcoat and black billycock hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 14. Stolen from a till in the borough of Middlesbrough, on the 11th instant: about las. in silver Monies. By a returned convict, named JOHN MASSETTER ( who was adveitised in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant, under the head of ' Miscellaneous Informations'), a labourer, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet G or 7 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, proportionate make, is a native of Sunderland, has a mermaid tattooed on right leg, and an anchor and chain on right arm below the elbow ; dressed in a brown or corded jacket, fustian tronsers, elastic- side boots, and billy- cock hat turned up at the sides. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for ins apprehension.— Bow- street, March 14. Description of JAMES HARDY, a butcher's assistant, who is charged with stealing eight carcases of Mutton, the property of his master, E. W. Winter, Pear Tree, Derby, on j the 3rd instant: about 20 years of age, 5 feet high, stout ! make, brown frizzy hair cut short, round chubby face, and of pugilistic appearance ; dressed as a butcher's assistant, with grey mackintosh and hard black billycock hat; is supposed io be in company with a vouug married woman, whose husband resides in Longton, Staffordshire. It is supposed that they will endeavour to go to America ; Hardy may seek employment at shambles, and has been employed at the Metropolitan Meat Market. Description of a young woman charged at Halifax with felony : about 18 years of age, 5 feet high, sallow complexion, delicate- looking, slender build ; she left Halifax ou the 18th of Pillow Cases ; a Petticoat or Underskirt, with black stripes 1 uniting downwards, aud black flowered border at bottom; two Tow els ; a table Cloth : a plasterer's Trowel, liaarly new; aud an iron 2- foot Rule.
