Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNAJ3Y, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and Bworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested oopy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any artiole in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. At 3 a. m. on the 18th instant, Police Constable George Grey, of the Northumberland Constabulary, was passing along the highway west of Eglingham Village, he met three men, who jumped over the fence into a field, and the officer followed them ; two of the men turned round, and each pointed a gun at him, one of them fired, and wounded the officer in the body, from which wounds he died the same day. One of the men is about 5 feet 11 inches high ; the man who tired the gun is about 5 feet 8 inches high, wore a grey coat and moleskin trjusers ; and the third a shorter man. Her Majesty's Government offer a reward of .£ 150, and the Court of Quarter Sessions for the county of Northumberland offer a like sum, making the full and final reward of i' 300, to be paid to any person who shall give such information and evidence, as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Bight Hon. the Secretary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Northumberland, nexham, or to any Superintendent in the county of Northumberland. — Bow- street, February 14. outside, one inside left breast, black cloth buttons, black calico back. 1 dark grey tweed shooting Coat, nearly new, three pockets outside, one inside left breas, black born buttons, black serge lining. 1 Vest, of same material, three pockets outside, black horn buttons, black calico back. 1 dark grey tweed Jacket, partly worn, three pockets outside, one inside left breast, black horn buttons, black serge lining. 1 Vest, of same material, single- breasted, three pockats outside, black horn buttons, black calico back. 1 light grey tweed shooting Coat, nearly new, three pockets outside, one inside left breast, grey serge lining. 1 Vest, of same material, single- breasted, light horn buttons, black calico back. 1 pair of light grey tweed Trousers, black stripe outside, much worn. 1 pair of dark grey striped Trousers, nearly new, liued with grey calico. 1 pair of dark brown woollen cord Trousers, much worn. 1 Windsor cord Vest, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, calico back. 1 pair of Windsor cord Trousers, torn inside left leg. 1 twilled cotton Shirt. 1 dark grey woollen Shirt. 3 striped winsey Shirts, much worn. 1 red and white woollen Muffler. 1 pair of strong watertight Boots, nearly new. Supposed by tramps, who will probably be wearing part of the stolen property, as they left two pairs of old trousers, with a piece of soap and some needles and thread in the pockets, an old vest, two shirts, and a pair of old boots, in the room in which the robbery was committed. Information ' During the night of the 27th ultimo, Clatton Bectorr, the residence cf tbe Rev. T. B. Johnstone, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen: a black cloth double- breasted Overcoat, nearly new ; two red and white silk pocket Handkerchiefs, one marked ' T. B. J." in corner, the other the same initials in the centre with fine white cotton ; a pair of tortoise- shell frame Spectacles ; and a large gold Seal, set with cornelian stone, crest— a winged spire. Information to be given to Superintendent Em ion, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near BriatoL — Bow- street, February 5. Between 11 p. m. on the 27th and 5' 20 a_ m. on the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of William Holt Gardiner, of Grinstead, was broken and entered, and the following property ftolen therein : a leather Purse, conta uing 10a. 9d; a pair of dark cord Trousers ; a grey cloth Ve8 „ Also the house of James Piggott, labourer, of Stanford Rivers, was broken and entered between 9 p. - n. and 6 a. m. on the 28th, and the following property stole i : a pair of man's strong nailed Boots : aud about 4| lbs. of salt Pork. By a man of the following description : " abo it 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion and hair, cut very short, no whiskers; dressed in a brown o .- ercoat, black trousers, blue cheese- cuttcr cap, and a pa: r of lace- up balmoral boots, newly fronted and half new in soles, which are now in the possession of the police : he took a railway ticket from Epping to Ongar, on the night of the 26th ult., b_ v the 10 33 train. At 9' 30 p. m. on the 7th instant, a large stack of straw was discovered to be on fire, on the premises of Mr. F. Evans, Cae Hen, Llandysilio, which was completely destroyed; supposed to be the act of incendiary. Information to be given to Police Constable Breeze, Llandysilio, or to Deputy Chief Constable Strefford, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— — Bino- street, February 10. FORGERY. Description of SAMUEL JOSEPH PHILLIPSON, charged with forgery at Manchester : he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark beard and moustache, shaves at the sides, dark sallow complexion, stout made, rather bald | on the forehead, slightly bowlfgged, and of respectable apjiearance. £ 50 reward will be paid by Messrs. Sutton and Elliot, Solicitors, Brown- street, Manchester, to any person giving such information as will lead to his arrest. Informa- tion to be given at the Detective Office, Cheapside, Manches- ter.- Bow- street, February 10. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Patrick Cooney, in the borough of Middlesborough, on the evening of the loth instant: a patent lever Watch, maker Isaac Altson, Middlesborough, No. 23024. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesborough. - Bow- street, February 12. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from Lilly Hall Farm, near Workington, between the 29th ultimo and the 1th instant: 1 blue pilot cloth Overcoat, single- breasted, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, red and black check 1 winsey lining, black horn buttons. 1 black cloth Jacket, three pockets outside, one inside left breast, black cloth buttons, black serge lining. 1 Vest, of sahio material, single- breasted, three pockets j HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Four ewe Shfep of the following description were found to be" given to"¥ uperi~ ntendent Little, Constabulary Office, | on the Khea Farm> Bromyard, about the first week in Whitehaven, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, December last, which it is supposed, had been stolen from Carlisle, Cumberland. — Bow-* treet, February 10. , some distance : three of them have white faces, the other 1 smutty faced, all marked across the shoulders with red Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, on the 15th ultimo, ruddle, one has had maggots on the near shoulder, and the charged on a warrant with burglary : HENRY CHEESE- wool is shorter there. Supposed to be all in lamb, and about MAN, about 10 years of age, 5 feet high, brown hair and 2 years old. Nuneaton : the horse has been traced to Atherstone, through ' i Bentley Wood, as far as the Coleshill aud Birmingham Road ; During the night of the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house it was being ridden by a man about 35 years of a<* e 5 feet , of Mrs. Bangham, of North- lane, Canterbury, was entered, 7 0r 8 inches high, sandy whiskers ; dressed in oilskin cape and six silver Tea- spoons marked ' B.' two of them very much aud light- coloured leggings. Further information respecting the meu who committed the burglary at Uffington, on the 26th ultimo, see Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo, the one with the red beard, hair, and moustache is supposed to have come from Wolverhamp-. ton- street, Dudley, and is called RED ROVER, formerly hawked cloth, and is 37 years of age ; the other is about 24 or 25 years of age. They are well known in Birmingham, Worcester, Gloucester, and Wiltshire. Stolen about the 20th ultimo, from a field at Brownhills, a bay horse Pony, 4 years old, 13 hands high, white star on forehead, a little white on one or both hind feet, rough coat, and in good condition. Further information respecting the Mare stolen from Gwastod- garth, Breconshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo: the mare has been recovered sold to a dealer at Bodeuham, Herefordshire, by WM. THOMAS MORGAN, a native of Farrington, Radnorshire, states he is a native of Hednesford, Staffordshire, which is false, 27 vears 2 February 14 of age, 5 feet 8 inches hi; h, pale complexion, dark brown hair aud whiskers round chin, hazel eyes, loug visage, large nose, inclined to left side, scar on top of head, which he states he received by falling from a horse ; dressed in a dark brown coat and waistcoat, duck slop under coat, cord trousers, lace- up boots, hard brown bowler narrow- brimmed hat; smart military appearance, states he has been in the Army, and was wounded in one of hi? legs, is likely to seek employment as a wood- cutter, aud was traced to Leomiuster, ou the 28tb ultimo. Information to be given to Superintendent Evans, Breconshire Constabulary* Crickhowell, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— How- street, February 3. LARGER Y AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of DAVID WILLIAMS, of the parish of Oswestry, Salop, charged with larceny : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and whiskers round his face, fair complexion, dark eyes, aud prominent teeth ; i. e is supposed to have gone to Liverpool, and has worked in coal mines, aud also as a stoker. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Dow- street, February 14. Description of EDWARD JONES, of Gobowen, Salop, charged with larceny : about 48 3' ears of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, rather stout, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, very little whiskers, which are turning grey, and ouo of his eyes is nearly covered with the eyelid ; he is a labourer, aud is sup- posed to have gone to Birkenhead or its neighbourhood. The following is a description of JOHN DICKSON, charged at Berwick- 011- Tweed, ou a warrant with stealing a Watch by violence, on the road near Berwick- ou- Tweed, late on the night of the 10th instant : he is a native of Berwick- on- Tweed, 23 years of age, ( J feet high, slender made, fair complexion, rather long thin face, light brown hair, small reddish whiskers round chiu, he is both a moulder and a mason, but does not work much, is a Militiaman, aud walks erect. The watch is a sili'er lever, No. 44314, white dial, with small crack across fnee, sunk seconds hands, ordinary chapters, and had a piece | of alluminium Chain attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Garden, Town Hall, Berwick- on- Tweed.— Bow- stred, February 14. Absconded from 535, New Oxford- street, LondoD, on the 12tb instant : FREDERICK ASHWOOD, a porter, 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, light or red- dish bro.\ n whiskers and moustache, blue eyes; dressed in dark coat, grey trousers and vest, dark cloth cap with peak ; has been a sailor, and is likely to be accompanied by his brother, who is a sailor also. MATTHEW SLATER, about 17 years of age, 5 feet C inches high, smooth face, fair complexion, brown hair, dark or hazel eyes ; dressed in blue overcoat, velvet collar, dark trousers, and high hat. £• 20 reward will be giveu by Mr, Glave, of 535, New Oxford- street, to auy Ou'e giving such information as shall lead to their apprehension. Informa- tion to be given to Detective Inspector Davis, or Inspector Lownds, Police Office, Litchurch, Derbyshire.— Low street, Februan/ 10.- Abscouded from Portsmouth, charged with stealing 2200 Francs : a man who gave the name tif Capt. LENNOX, aud who is believed to bo the person advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th instant, uuder the head of ' Frauds and Aggravated Misdemeanours,' in the name of Captain H. B. HAMILTON, of the 6th Dragoon Guards, charged at Cam- bridge with fraud; his cieacriptipn corresponds exactly with the above- mentioned. He left Portsmouth by the 4 p. m. train ou the 7th instant, supposed for either Southampton or Bristol. Information to be given to Head Constable Barber, Portsmouth.— Bow- street, February 10. Stolen from the house of Charles Capper, at Tunstall, Staffordshire, 011 the 14th rhimo : Two- Shillings iu money, one Knife, and one Pencil. By a man named WILLIAM- SON, who had lodged iu the lrouse one night : about 60years of age, 6 feet high, muderuU* build, walks very erert, grey liair anil whiskers, aud Jong face ; dressed in black felt hat, short grey round jacket, coarse cloth, brown cotton cord trousers, darned with whijte on oue knee ; blucher boobs with square toes, woollen plaid shirt, black necktie with white spots down the centre, and is of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Superintendent Baker, Tunstall, Staffordshire. who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Fchrtutr;/ 10. Stolen at Chesterfield, during the evening of the 7th instant: a £ 0 Note ; a silver hunting- case verge Watch ; a paisley Shawl ; and a blue stuff Dress. By a man about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, light complexion, a bricklayer by trade ; he is aceonipauiea by a woman about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light haiii and complexion, has a round substance growing out of left side of head between the .- ye aud ear. Information to be given to Chief Constable Horne, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.— Bow- streit, February 10. Stolen from the Fenchurch Railway Station, on the 5th instant, a brown leather Portmanteau, rather worn, two straps round it, coutaiuiug : a black frock Coat and Waist- coat, a pair of grey striped Trousers, a pair of lace- up Boots, a pair of Oxonian Shoes, a pair of wool Slippers, a Hauuel Shirt, a white Shirt, a quantity of Socks, Collars, Cuffs, Neckties, aud Gloves ( some of the collars marked ' Gilniau '), a brown Russian leather Writing- case ( initials ' C. R. G.' iu gold), and suudry Books, Magazines, Combs, Brushes, & c. By a man ( who was seen to leave the station with the port- manteau), about 45 years of age, short, and wore a long dark brown inveruess cape. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Iledington, Great Eastern Railway, Bishopsgate Station, London. — Bow- street, February 10. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Rochdale, on the 7th instant : a silver Geneva Watch, aud a Purse con- taining i'l 12s. : by a young man of the following descrip- tion, who obtained lodgings at the house, from which the property was stolen, by representing that he was a lawyer's clerk holding a situation in the town ; about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow complexion, sleuder figure, beardless face, has only one front tooth in upper jaw ; dressed in a blue pilot overcoat, black frock, vest, aud grey and black mixture trousers. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Rochdale.— Bow- street, February 10. Absconded from his lodgings 47, Shepherd- street, Crewe, on the 4th instant, charged with stealing a blue pilot cloth monkey Jacket, black bone buttons, pocket on each hip, right pocket lined with leather, a yellow silk Handkerchief, maiked in the corner either with red silk or cotton with the letters ' H. E.' was in the pocket ; a dark cloth Jacket, cross pocket, dark bone buttons ; a single breasted Waistcoat, made of the same material, bone buttons ; a pair of light mixture cloth Trousers, fly fronts, and metal buttons ; a light plaid woollen Shirt, lined with white ilanuel, aud pearl buttons on it ; a satin purple Scarf, and a gold Pin knot pattern : HENRY GRAY, labourer, a native of Bromborough, near Birkenhead, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, stout built, rouud face, fresh complexion, good looking, dark hair, and slight dark whiskers all round the face ; dressed in a suit of dark mixture cloth clothes, rouud hard billy bat, nearly new, and low lace- up shoes.
