Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. C. * » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should bo made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor unast be prepaid, otherwiso the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretory of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. The dead body of a newly born Male Child, pinned np in a part of an old brown skirt, was on the 19th instant found in St. Mary's Churchyard, Devizes, and from the medical evidence taken at the inquest the same evening, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the child, and the Home' Secretary will advise the grant of Her Gracious Majesty's pardon, to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who ' shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Between 1230 aud 5 a. m. on the 26 th instant, a dwelling- house at Hedgerley, Bucks, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: four German silver table Spoons ; two German silver dessert Spoons; three German silver Egg Spoons : a white Mackintosh ; a black Mackintosh ; a blue cloth Overcoat, black lining, has a loop on inside of collar marked ' Cambridge' in gold letters ; a rough cloth Inver- ness Cape ; a black hard felt Hat; two whita woollen Cravats or Comforters, crochet pattern ; a pair of brown woollen Gloves ; and a Duster. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Inspector Sutton, Police Station, Iver, Bucks.— Bow- street, December 27. Stolen Ly means of housebreaking at Newcastle- upon- Tyne, between 9 30 a. m. aDd 12 midnight on the 14th inst. : 1 old- fashioned silver verge Watch. 1 gold Guard, cable pattern. 1 gold Brooch, shape of an anchor and serpent. 1 pair of gold Ear- rings, flat in centre, eagle in middle, and three drops below. 1 jet Necklet, Brooch, and Ear- rings to match. 1 silver plated Coffee Pot. 1 silver plated Egg Stand. 1 gold dress King, has three stones, a large yellow coloured one in centre, aud a white one on each side. 2 gold Studs, round shape. 1 silver Tea Spoon, ' J. and M. M.' ou handle. 1 pair of gold Ear- rings, shape two links, one below the other, aud one of the rings a little bent. I black cloth Jacket, double- breasted, two pockets out- side and one inside and outside left breast, black corded lining, bound with silk, has the name of ' Liddle' ou piece of tape inside of velvet collar, and man's size. 1 blue and black tartan silk Dress, flounce at bottom, trimmed with black silk. 1 brown satin cloth Dress, deep flounce at bottom and a narrow one above, trimmed with velvet and Bilk fringe. 1 black brocaded silk Jacket, glass buttons up the front, trimmed on back and sleeves with black silk. 1 black cloth jacket, embroidered, with silk back and front, fastens up front with hooks and eyes. 1 Pannier for a sort of alpaca dress, trimmed with black velvet and black fringe. 1 black silk Pannier, trimmed with silk fringe and velvet. 2 black silk Aprons, with frills on bottom and trimmed with black velvet. 1 waterproof Cloak, with tippet, frilled round the bottom, has two pockets in each side, and a iow of black buttons up the front, woman's size. 2 white silk Handkerchiefs, one lias a raised flower running throughout, and the other is twilled, with chintz flower. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, New- castlc- upon- Tyne, Durham.— Bow- street, December 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Bolton, between 10- 30 p. m., the 22nd, and 5' 30 a. m., the 23rd instant: one brown cloth loose- fitting Overcoat with brown velvet collar, the button holes worn on the left side, had a pocket handkerchief in pocket with white middle and red border, and a portrait in the centre ; one pair of elastic- side Boots, one of them half heeled, cracked a little on the tops, one stitched and the other not; one pair of cotton cord Trousers, a newly washed patch on right knee; one pair of lace- up Boots, toe- capped; one new check ( linen) Shirt, trimmed with metal buttons ; one pair of woollen cord ^ Trousers, cord patch on left knee, and brown stripe down each side of leg; one pair of newly washed moleskin Trousers and Vest, aud about 10s. worth of Groceries. Supposed by two men, one of whom went into the house to seek lodgings at 9' 40 p. m. the 22nd instant; one of them is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, and pale complexion ; dressed in black cloth coat, cord trou- sers, white muffler, clogs, and dirty white linen jacket under his coat, and said he was a striker ; the other is about 5 feet 4 inches high, stoutly made, and dark whiskers ; dressed in black ragged clothing, aud may have the stolen boots on, as an old pair of shoes were found near the premises. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton.— Bow- street, December 26. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Bolton on the night of the 19th instant: a brown stone Bottle, marked ' Rowland Hall, No. 2354,' containing about two gallons of Brandy. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton.— Bow- street, December 26. During the night of the 21st instant, the ' King's Head ' public- house, Chinnor, Oxon, was broken into and entered, and one pair of Wellington Boots with tips on heels, one row of small nails round soles ( two rows at toes) ; one pair of strong lace- up shoes ( one newly mended) ; three new calico Shirts, rough, washed and wet, one old flannel Shirt, torn on sleeve and left side ; one coarse Apron, one ditto Towel with two red stripes at each end ; loaves of Bread, and a quantity of uncooked Beef and Pork, stolen therein, the property of Mr. Charles Witney, the landlord. Information to be given to Police Constable ( 29) Chomp, Chinnor, or Mr. Superintendent Henry Seers, Police Station, Watlingtou, Oxon.— Bow- street, December 26. During the night of the 21st instant, the pheasantry at Kenwick House was broken into, aud twelve tame Pheasants ( nine hens and three cocks), the property of J. H. Hollway, Esq., stolen therefrom. One of the cocks is the English breed ; one has a large white ring rouud the neck ; the other a small riug on neck, aud a lump on one leg near the foot, having been wounded. Supposed to have been killed in the place by a man with middle- sized foot, plates on boot heels, two rows of square nails on outside, and three rows in the middle, put corner to corner, representing diamonds ; had a large dog with him. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to a conviction shall receive ,£ 10 reward. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Fuller, Constabulary Station, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, December 26. Stolen by moans of housebreaking at Portsmouth on the 15th instant : an open- face silver Watch, maker Whiteorn, Edinburgh, No. 1746; a silver Watch ; two gold Studs, one true- lover's- knot, shall holes where the gold is pricked out ; an old- fashioned gold finger Ring, set with pink topaz stones, one missing ; a gold finger Ring, set with rubies and cat's- eye, has either a pearl or diamond in centre ; a silver Tankard, maker Steiner, Adelaide, South Australia ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, filigree- work ; a gold Locket, with poatrait, and cross of pears on front; a gold Cross, edges raised and the gold pricked '• a plain gold Bracelet, with a leaf in the centre, in case, maker Steiner, Adelaide; a silver Pencil- case ; | a mother- o'- pearl Card- case; a pair of cold Trousers ; a gold Card- case, chased, with ' E. C. from C. W.' ; two Frock Coats, one black, the blue, with silk collar and lining; a suit of black dress Clothes ; a brown cauvas waterproof Bag, with ' E. T. Christie' painted in white on it; a lady's Dressing- case, with bottles, & c., silver- mounted, and ' Mrs. Christie' on brass plate ; and linen Sheets and Towels, marked ' E. T. Christie ;' a black frock Coat, maker Trayler ; aud a dark mixture Suit, maker Harries. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Landport, Portsmouth, Hants.— Bow- street, December 18. Between 12 midnight and 7 a. m. on the 8th iustant, the residence of W. H. Leatham, Esq., J. P., at Hemsworth, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : 1 massive silver Testimonial, in the form of a pedestal, with emblems— Commerce, & c., aud inscription engraved ' Presented by the Electors and Non Electors of the Boro. of Wakefield.' 1 silver Inkstand, marked ' M. L. to P. L.' 1 silver Snuff Box, iulaid with pearl, date 160 - the other figure obliterated. 2 silver chased Napkiu Rings, one marked ' W. H. L.', the other ' E. E. L., from P. 1,.' 4 silver Inkstand Tops. 1 silver Paper Knife. I silver Paper Knife, with silver haft, with the residence of Sir Walter Scott printed ou blade. 1 silver gilt Vinaigrette, perforated. 1 light grey thick sac Overcoat, light velvet collar, lined with black and white check flannel, silk sleeve lining, two pockets outside. A Turkish metal Vase, with top surmounted by a cresent, about 4 inches high, yellow and red, the top takes off, and cresents are indented all over the vase, the metal is quite thin. Also a new buck- horn Knife. Supposed by a man, about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, cat short; dressed when last seen in a large blue rough cloth overcoat, shabby black cloth shooting coat underneath, knitted woollen vest over his waistcoat, magenta and white woollen scarf, drab cord trousers, fitting tight, dark woollen cap, with peak of same material, button on top, and two narrow braids round head. A reward will be paid on his apprehension and con- viction. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of the West Riding of Yorkshire; to Superintendent Sykes, Barnsley ; or at any of the West Riding Police Stations.— Bow- street, December 18. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of a man called ' TOMMY,' charged with stealing a Horse and Cart at Brownhills, near Walsall: about 30 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, a small light moustache and whiskers, turns in his toes very much when walking, has a shabby appearance; dressed in a dirty white slop, old dark cloth trousers, black billycock hat, and old lace- yp boots;. he has been traced to Walsall, where he stayed on the 23rd instant, and had then the horse and cart with him s he stated to Mr. Holder, for whom he had been working, thit he came from Willenhall, and had been driving a horse for a Mr. Lloyd there. The horse is aged, grey colour, and in low con- dition ; the cart is a strong one, with the name ' Thomas Holder, Farmer, Pelsall,' painted thereon. Information to be given to Superintendent Hills, Brownhills, Stafford.— Bow- street, December 27. Stolen ou the 21st instant: a bay Mare, aged, 14 hands lin. high, off hind leg with white fetlock, off knee broken, with a lump on it, long bang tail cut level with hocks, had on a saddle and double bridle ( both old) ; the property of Mr. Merryman, of Willington. By his servant a farm- labourer, about 24 years of age, 5 ft. 2 in. high, bow legged, hooked nose, with a small recent scar, black hair cut short, thin face, no whiskers, a star tattooed on back of left hand, the end of middle finger has a sore upon it, an eagle tattooed on right arm ; dressed iu brown velvet cap, light grey trousers, brown coat, and lace- up boots. He was hired in November, and spoke of having resided in Grantham and Nottingham. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the owner, on recovery of the niaie and conviction of the offender. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable, Litchurch, Derby.-— Bow- street, December 20. Stolen on the 18th instant, from the Unicorn Stables at Market Drayton, a brown Mare, 6 years old, about 15 hands high, black points, recently clipped, tail rather short and cut square, a noted fast trotter, with high action and slight rolling t; ait, had on a saddle and double- reined bridle, with hunting, breastplate. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner, Mr. Geo. Wain, of Rowney Farm, near Market Drayton, to any person giving such informatiou that shall bad to the recovery of the mare aud conviction of the offender. Informatiou to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Howels, Market Drayton, Salop*.— Bow- street, December 23. Stolen on the night of the 16th instant, from a field in the parish of Upton- cum- Chalvey, Bucks : a roan mare Pony, about 13 hands high. A reward of 10s. will be paid on con- viction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the mare. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, December 23. Stolen from Leigh, near Worcester, during the night of the 20th instant : a very dark brown thick cob Hoise, aged, 15 hands high, long tail, well shod, aud very fat ; also a Bridle, with new reins, and old Saddle, tll « > property of Mr. William Firkins. Also stolen on the l'Jth iustant, from a field at Devenham Bank, Great Malvern : six Sheep, four of which are yearlings, and are marked on each side with the letters ' J. H.' but not very plain, the property of Mr. John Harris. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- ou- Severn, or to Acting Inspector Turner, Great Malvern, Worcester.— Bow- street, December 23. Stolen from Penarth, on the night of the 17th iustant : a cream- coloured mare Pony, aged, with black mane and tail, the property of Mr. Mayer, Penarth. luformation to be giveu to Superintendent Sadler, Bridgend, or to Inspector Adams, Penarth, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, December 20. Stolen duriug the night of the 17th instant, from Mr. Thomas Goddard, of Murrell Green, Odiham : a black cart Horse, 3 years old, 14 hands high, white star ou fore- head, off hind fetlock white, long tail, iu good condition. Also a dark brown spring Cart, picked out with yellow, and plain box body. Information to be given to Superintendent Troke, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.- Bow- strett, December 20. Stolen on the night of the 7th instant, from a field at Hornchurch : a strawberry- coloured roan Horse, rising 4 years old, about 15 hands high, very rough coat, iu good condition, 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Decemhi 27 and not shod. By a mi- idle- aged man, dressed in rough hairy cap aud long dark coat, had the appearance of a drover, and carried a long stick. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehen- sion aud conviction of the offender and recovery of the horse. Information to bo given at the Constabulary Office, Brent- wood, Essex.— Bow- street, December 16. Found in the possession of GEORGE SHARP, at Epping, ou the 12th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark bay mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, black mane and tail, black legs, three white marks on off side, two white marks on near side, and several white saddle marks, near knee slightly chipped. Also a dark painted market Cart, and an old set of brass mounted Harness, with ' K.' on blinkers. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Stationf Epping, Essex.— Bow- sl., December 16. LARCE3SY AND EMBEZZLEMENT, Stolen between 4 p. m. on the 25th aud 2 p. m. on the 26th instant, from a dwelling- house at Marsdeu : a wash- leather Purse, containing £ 5 in Gold, 9s. 6d. in Silver; and a long gold watch Guard, with a common Locket ( containing a lock of grey and black hair) attached. By a lodger of the following description, who has absconded : 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, black hair and mous- tache, and proportionately built; has been employed about a month as fireman at gasworks, but has previously been a firer- up on board steamers ; dressed in a dark grey coat, dark brown sailor's cloth trousers, and black cloth cap with peak, which has had a hole burnt through the centre above the peak, and repaired with new black cloth. Information to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Court- house, Huddersfield.— Brno- street, December 27. Description of ALFRED C. BOULTON, for whose arrest a warrant lias been issued for having embezzled a large sum of money at Manchester : he is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin long face, light hair and complexion, front teeth in upper jaw prominent, slender made, fashionably dressed. Information to lie given to Chief Constable Palin, Town Hall, Mauchester.— B< rw- street, December 27. Description of THOMAS TAPLEY, alias THOMAS HARRY FIRMAN', alias ATKINS, alias DAVIS, who has been convicted in those names, and of CHARLES SURGAY, charged with stealing a light cart at Lingtield, Surrey, on the 5th instant : Tapley represented himself as a salesman, and is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, small whiskers and moustache, and stutters very much. Surgay represented himself as servant to Tapley, has the appearance of a stableman, is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 or S inches high, very fair complexion, and small whiskers. Both are well known to the Metropolitan Police. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Murtell, Surrey Consta- bulary, Godstoije, who holds a warrant for their apprehension. — Bow- street, December 26. Description of WILLIAM ANDERSON, late commer- cial traveller iu the employ of John Simpson, Draper, No. 18, Bath- road, Birmingham, who stands charged on a warrant with stealing on the 19th instant a Coat, the property of the above- mentioned John Simpson, bis master : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, pale face, rather sandy hair, slight moustache anil whiskers; was dressed when last seen in dark grey coat aud black trousers. Information to be given to Chief Constable Glossop, Bir- mingham, Warwick, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- ctreet, December 26. Description of WILLIAM WALLHEAD, who absconded from Gaiusborongh on the 21st instant, charged witli stealing a box containing a quantity of women's Wear- ing Apparel, aud several yards of Calico aud Flannel from the dwelling- house of George Downs; is about 30 years of age, 5 feet S inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, aud small dark moustache, is a malster, and a native of Waddington, near Lihcolii. Information to be given to Superintendent Truelove, County Police Station, Gainsboro', Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— BoK- strect, December 26. Absconded from Weymouth on the 21st instant, charged with stealing from the bedroom of Thomas Spracklin, a lady's goiil Geneva Watch, open face, gold dial, black figures, some of them scratched ( supposed to be the figure 10), a long chain, small oval links, a gold Locket, blue and enamelled one side, the other side plain, glass broken ; also one Sovereign, aud a pair of dark Trousers, with light stripes: WILLIAM PAYNE, 21 years of age, 0 feet 4 or 5 inches high, a baker and confectioner by trade, pale complexion, high cheek boue3, dark brown hair, no whiskers, very slight moustache, bow legged, anchor in blue ink on back of one band, rather stout built, and is very ftmd of singing in public- houses ; he is a native of Exeter, Devon ; his father keeps a baker's shop iu Mary Arches- street, Exeter; he states that lie has been working at Southampton for some time, before he came to Weymouth. Information to be given to Superintendent Vickery, Police Office, Weymouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 26. Description of SIDNEY FISHER and MARY ANN FISHER, who absconded from Weston- super- Mare, Somerset, ou the 14th instant, charged with larceny, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued : Sidney Fisher is a stone mason, 2- 1 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair aud whiskers, meeting under chin, pale face, aud well grow n ; generally dressed in a black bowler hat, dark i loth jacket, and fustian trousers. He belongs to London, and has been convicted at Bristol and at the last Somerset Spring Assizts. Mary Ann Fisher ( wife of the above), is 24 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, dark browu hail-, brown eyes, and dark eoniplexion ; has au infant about 4 mouths old. She was liberated from the Bristol Gaol on the 26th July, 1870, having been sentenced. ( after previous convictions of felony) to' 9 months' imprisonment and 7 years' Police Supervision. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillbanks, Somerset ConstabulAry, Axbridge, or to Sergeant Hardwick, Weston- super- Mare, Somerset.— Bow- street, December 23. Description of a man charged with stealing a Hammock, a Rug, a bed Tick, a new sou'wester Hat, au oilskin Coat, two canvas Jackets, and a Bag, from the brig ' Economy,' lying at Mistley Quay, on the, 19th instant, the property of David Spendley, mariner : he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 imhes high, dark complexion, small dark whiskers, aud shaved chin ; dressed iu a ditty white slop, guernsey under- neath, dirty fustian trousers, and hairy cap ; he was traced to London by the Police, and is supposed to have made his way to Dover or Folkestone, Kent, where it is supposed he is < i native. Information to be given to Inspector Ackers, Police Station, Mistley, Essex.— Bow- street, Deetmber 23. of age, about 6 feet high, fair complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, very cross- eyed ; dressed in dark trousers and overcoat, and black billycock hat ; she is 28 years of age, short; dressed in black gown, black crape, green bonnet, and black shawl. £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery and con- viction. Information to be given to Head Constable Martin, Police Station, Winchester, who holds a warrant against Thomas Doyle.— Bow street, December 16. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Obtained by false pretences on the 16th instant: one curry Comb ; one horse Brush ; and one pair of Leggings, all new. By a man about 21 yeara of age, 5 feet 5 inches hign, light complexion, no whiskers, b'ght brown hair cut close, and full face : dressed in dark cloth trousers and vest, and white linen jacket anil vest. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Boltou.— Bow- st'ect, December 26. Description of JOHN PERKINS and FREDERICK PERKINS, cattle dealers, of Witton, near Droitwich charged with obtaining Cattle from Messrs. Pugh and Stokes, auctioneers, Oswestry, by means of false pretences, with intent to defraud : John Perkins is about 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, small moustache, which may be shaved off, has an ill looking countenance, swaggering gait, sways his head about when walking, and generally carries an ash" stick with him. Frederick Perkins is about 46 years of age, about 5 feet 7£ inches high, hair aud beard turning grev, and looks down when talking ; generally wears a dark ctotli overcoat, and his hat on front part of head. They have the appearance of low cattle dealers, and are known in Hereford, Gloucester, Worcester, and Birmingham, at which places they attend fairs aud markets. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop, or to Police Constable Lyndon, Baschurch, Salop, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, December 16.
