The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the Bame, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Ma. O. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that on Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, aU Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular A. rmy, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. The dead body of a newly born Male Child, pinned up in a part of an old brown skirt, was on the 19th instant found in St. Mary's Churchyard, Devizes, and from the medical evidence taken at the inquest the same evening, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Gibson, Devizes, Wilts.-— Bow- street, December 20. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Charged with arson at the Girl's Reformatory School, Lochburn, Maryhill, on the 27th ultimo, GRACE TAYLOR, 14 years of age, stout make, full face, aud dark hair, cut square with top of shoulders, has a rolling gait; dressed iu a blue print dress and lace- up boots. She absconded when undergoing a sentence of two years for theft, on the above date ; she told some of her companions she intended to make her escape and go to England. Informatiou to be given to Inspector Anderson, Police Chambers, Maryhill.— Bow- street, December 11. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen about 4' 15 p. m. on the 27th ultimo, from the per- son at Woodside Railway Station : a gold keyless Watch, maker Chambers, inscribed, ' T. P. from his sister, M. Negro- ponte, ICth February, 1869,' monogram' T. P.' outside, a small long curb gold Albert Chain attached.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, December 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by moans of housebreaking at Portsmouth, on the 15th instant : an open- face silver Watch, maker Whiteorn, Edinburgh, No. 1746; a silver Watch ; two gold Studs, one true- lover's- knot, shall holes where the gold is pricked out ; an old- fashioned gold finger Ring, set with pink topaz stones, one missing; a gold finger Ring, set with rubies aud cat's- eye, has either a pearl or diamond in centre ; a silver Tankard, maker Steiner, Adelaide, South Australia; a pair of gold Ear- rings, filigree- work ; a gold Locket, with poatrait, aud cross of pears on front; a gold Cross, edges raised and the gold pricked! a plain gold Bracelet, with a leaf in the centre, in case, maker Steiner, Adelaide; a silver Pencil- case ; { a mother- o'- pearl Card- case; a pair of cord Trousers; a gold Card- case, chased, with ' E. C. from C. W.'; two Frock Coats, one black, the blue, with silk collar and lining; a suit of black dress Clothes ; a brown canvas waterproof Bag, with ' E. T. Christie' painted in white on it; a lady's Dressing- case, with bottles, & c., silver- mounted, and ' Mrs. Christie' on brass plate ; aud linen Sheets and Towels, marked ' E. T. Christie ;' a black frock Coat, maker Trayler ; and a dark mixture Suit, maker Harries. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Landport, Portsmouth, Hants.— Bow- street, December 18. Between 12 midnight and 7 a. m. on the 8th instant, the residence of W. H. Leatham, Esq., J. P., at Hemsworth, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : 1 massive silver Testimonial, in the form of a pedestal, with emblems— Commerce, & c., and inscription engraved ' Presented by the Electors and Non Electors of the Boro. of Wakefield.' 1 silver Inkstand, marked ' M. L. to P. L.' 1 silver Snuff Box, inlaid with pearl, date 160 other figure obliterated. 2 silver chased Napkin Rings, one marked ' W. H. L.', the other ' E. E. L., from P. L.' 4 silver Inkstand Tops. 1 silver Paper Knife. 1 silver Paper Knife, with silver haft, with the residence of Sir Walter Scott printed on blade. 1 silver gilt Vinaigrette, perforated. 1 light grey thick sac Overcoat, light velvet collar, lined with black and white check flannel, silk sleeve lining, two pockets outside. A Turkish metal Vase, with top surmounted by a cresent, about 4 inches high, yellow and red, the top takes off, and cresents are indented all over the vase, the metal is quite thin. Also a new buck- horn Knife. Supposed by a man, about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. tigh, dark complexion, dark brown hair, cut short ; dressed when last seen in a large blue rough cloth overcoat, shabby black cloth shooting coat underneath, knitted woollen vest over his waistcoat, magenta and white woollen scarf, drab cord trousers, fitting tight, dark woollen cap, with peak of same material, button on top, and two narrow braids round head. A reward will be paid on his apprehension and con- viction. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of the West Riding of Yorkshire ; to Superintendent Sykes, Barnsley ; or at any of the West Riding Police Stations.— Bow- street, December 18. Description of THOS. FLACK and JAMES REEVES, alias WINKS, of Abridge, in the parish of Lambourne, labourers, charged with breaking and entering a building within the curtilage of the dwelling house of Wm. Krailing, at Abridge, baker, on the 8th iustant, and stealing a J- cwt. weight of Coal : Flack is 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair and eyes, and fresh complexion ; sup- posed to be dressed in a pepper- and- salt tweed coat, or white slop with blue guernsey underneath, cord trousers, cap, red neckerchief tied closely round neck, and heavy lace- up boots ; and Reeves is 22 j ears of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light hair, grey eyes, aud swarthy complexion ; dressed in a white slop or fustian sleeved waistcoat, cord trousers, cap, and heavy lace- up boots. Both men are well known at Loughton and Chigwell, aud are generally in company with hay carters aud dealers. Information to be given to Super- intended Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex, who holds the warrent for their apprehension..— Bow- street, Dec. 13. Description of a man charged with having broken and entered the dwelling- house aud shop of Johu Waudall, on the Cth instant, at Frieston, and stealing two Half- sovereigns, about £ 1 in Silver, 6s. or 7s. iu Coppers, aud three pairs of boy's blue worsted Stockings : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown or sandy whiskers round the throat, and combed back from the chin ; dressed , in a black billycock hat, cord jacket, long leather leggings above the knees, and boots, which hare small nails round the soles, three rows of diamond- headed jails iu the middle, niue iu each row, and large square nails in the heels, supposed new. Information to be giveD to Superintendent Thorsby, I Skirbeck Quarter, Boston, Lincolnshre— Bow- street, Dec. 11. i On the night of the 5th instan,, between 10 p. m. and 5 a. m. the dwelling- house of Mr. F. Winter, at Bon wick, iu ' the parish of Skipsea, iu the East riding of York, farmer, was burglariously entered by unlockiig ttie catch of the front room window with a butcher's knife which was left behind,' and the following property, belongin; to Mr. Winter and the servants, stolen therein : five pairs « f men's Boots, strongly . made, laced- up in front and nailed, < ne pair uearly new, and j some of the others have been recenty soled ; three pairs of light- made Boots, two have elastic- siles and are much worn ; I two pairs of women's Boots, both new, one pair strongly made and lace- up iu front, the ohers lightly made and elastic- sides ; three Top Coats, one arough drab cloth, lined with red plaid, such as are woru ly farm servants, and the lining across the back has been re/ aired with some other material, one a blue pilot cloth, mad< short, and in good con- dition, the top button has been renoved inwards, sewn on with twine, the other is a dark ocpper- and- salt coloured tweed cloth, lightly made, aud not liied at the back, had two pairs of Gloves in the pockets ; a fey mixture cloth Jacket aud Vest, much worn ; a harding Apron ; and two pairs of short leather Leggings, one pair patent leather and much worn, both fasten at the sides witl straps aud buckles. Two pairs of old boots were left behiuc, strong made, aud lace- up in front. Stolen by housebreaking, between 2 and 4 p. m. on the 5th instant, from 10, Wilson- road West, Shepherd's- bush: gold Ear- rings, set with turquoise ; a pair of gold Wires ; a a pair of gold Eye- glasses; a silver Eye- glass ; a gold Seal, with flower and ' Forget- me- not.' engraved thereon ; a gold Watch Key, with two stones ( one yellow, one white); a silver Pencil- case; a silver Thimble; and three £ 5 Bank of England Notes.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, Decem- ber 11. Further information respecting the robbery at Llanfi- hangel Court, on the 27th ultimo, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant: most of the stolen property has been found pledged in Pontypool, by a man of the following description and giving the name of WALTER PITT, from 30 to 36 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout made, fair complexion, dark hair and whiskers round the face, large drooping eais, and thick lips ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, rooleskin vest and trousers, round black hat, slight cotton shirt with spots ; states he was a blacksmith by trade, a native of Herefordshire, and works as a labourer. He was convicted at Hereford Quarter Sessions for stealing two cows, and also at Usk Quarter Sessions in January, 1867, for stealing a box of wearing apparel and a watch, and sentenced to 7 years' pmal servitude. £ 10 reward will be paid on his apprehension and conviction. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, or to Superintendent Freeman, Abergavenny, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 11. Between 8' 30 p. m. the 4th, and 6' 30 a. m. on the 5th inst, the house of Henry Cherry, Water Stratford, was entered and stolen thereii: a pair of labourer's new heavy watertight Shoes, nailed with square hob nails, have been worn once, the bottom lace- boles were made by a gimlet ; also a buck- horn handle doubl » - bladed pocket Knife. Information to be given to Inspector Andrews, Maidsmoreton, Backs.— Bow- street, December 9. Betweejl 8' 30 p. m. on the 6th and 5- 30 a. m. on the 7th inst, the office at Ward- street Cotton Mill, was feloniously entered, and three brown paper Parcels, containing 56 dozen of gold plate Bobbins were stolen from a desk. Whoever will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, will receive £ 2 reward, on application to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire. - - Bovi- street, December 9. centre), cue with six pearl- aud small diamond in centre, one set with amethyst, one with head of a man raised in silver ( Foreign make), one with hair in centre ; seven gold Brooches, one with elaborately woiked frame ( containing the bust of a female red coral), one enamelled ( with painted female figure, two oblong ( set round with poarls, bair in centre), orf set with small amethysts and pearls ( hair in centre), one twisted ( set with garnets), one with dark stone ; two gold Locket*, one oval, set with pearls, one set with turquoise ( liothcontaining hair); three Neck Chains, two gold ( link pittern), one composed of cowrie shells, with silver links and g » l<? clasps ( Foreign make); a gold Maltese Cross; a pair of HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Penarth, on the night of the 17th iustant : a cream- coloured mare Pony, aged, with black mane and tail, the property of Mr. Mayer, Penarth. Information to be given to Superintendent Sadler, Bridgend, or to Inspector Adams, Penarth, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, December 20. Stolen during the night of the 17th instant, from Mr. Thomas Goddard, of Murrell Green, Odiham : a black cart Horse, 3 years old, 14 hands high, white star on fore- head, off hind fetlock white, long tail, in good condition. Also a dark brown spring Cart, picked out with yellow, and plain box body. Information to be given to Superintendent Troke, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot— Bow- street, December 20. Stolen on the night of the 7th instant, from a field at Hornchurch : a strawberry- coloured roan Horse, rising 4 years old, about 15 hands high, very rough coat, in good condition, and not shod. By a middle- aged man, dressed in rough hairy cap and long dark coat, had the appearance of a drover, and carried a long stick. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender and recovery of the horse. Information to be given at the Constabulary Office, Brent- wood, Essex.— Bow- street, December 16. Found in the possession of GEORGE SHARP, at Epping, ou the 12th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark bay mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, black mane and tail, black legs, three white marks on off side, two white marks on near side, and several white saddle marks, near knee slightly chipped. Also a dark painted market Cart, and an old set of brass mounted Harness, with ' K.' on blinkers. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bow- st., December 16. Stolen from a field at Chetwynd Villa, near Newport, Salop, on the night of the 9th instant : a bay horse Pony, C years of age, 10 or 11 hands high, has a few white hairs on forehead, in good condition, and rough coat ; the property of Wm. Thomas, Esq., of Chetwynd Villa. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- street, December 13. Stolen from a field at Blower's Green, during the night of the 3rd or morning of the 4th iustant : a light brown horse Pony, 5 years old, about 14 hands high, one white hind foot, and white star on forehead. £ 5 reward will be given on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Police Office, Dudley. — Bow street, December 13. Stolen at 7 p. m. on the 2.9th ultimo, from High- street, Kingsland, a grey Horse aud spring Van, painted brown, Daniel Livermore, carter, Bishop Stortford, Herts,' ou side and front; also two Tarpauliugs.— Metropolitan Police, N Di- vision, December 11. Found at Basingstoke on the 4th instant, supposed to have been stolen, a black rough long- coated mare Pony, about 2 3 year. 5 old, about 12 hands high, black long tail reaching to the ground, long mane, small white star on forehead, and rather grey face and nose. ' Stolen from a field at Kirby- Grindalyth, between the 20th ultimo and the 4th instant : ten Lambs and two small shearling Gimmers, the lambs are marked with ] « tch on the near side ' T. P.', have- a round hole punched through the centre of far ear, the gimmeis will ; ilso have a dot of ruddle upon the shoulder, and the wethers upon the loi:, the two shearliDg gmimers are marked ' T. P.' on the near side in Sitcli, and a dot of ruddle on the shoulders, the property of. mr. Thomas Parker, farmer, of Kirby- Grindalyth. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Parker to any person or persons giviDg such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, if stolen, and, if strayed, any one finding the same and restoring them to Mr. Parker, will have all reasonable expenses paid. Charged with stealing a Horse, Cart, and Harness, from Rochester, on the 27th ultimo : a man of the following description— 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light hair, no whiskers, small tuft of hair under his chin, and face very much pimpled ; dressed in old black frock coat, torn at the sleeves, old browu ribbed trousers, and tweed tight- fitting cap. Has lately followed the occupation of a fish hawker. Information to be given to Head Constable Radley, Rochester, Kent.— Bow- street, December 9. Stolen from a field at Handsworth, on the night of the 4th instant, a brown cob Mare, 14 hands high, 5 years old, with black points. If stolen, £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information that may lead to the convic- tion of the offender or offenders and recovery of the mare. Information to be given to Sergeant Richards, Police Offiue, Handswortb, Staffordshire, or at any police oflice in the county.— Bow- street, December 9. Stolen between the 5th and 0th instant, from a field at Cwmdyllean Farm, in the pariah of Llanidloes, five fat Welch wether Sheep, three years old, marked ' E. I.' with pitch on . left side, right ear cut off at the point and slit in the middle, a nip cut off lower side of left ear, the property of Mr. Evan Jones, of Cwmdyllean. Information to be gireu at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Sergeant Oven, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire.— JVoui- street, November 9. LARCENY AID EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 16th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mrs. Vince, North- street, Colchester, the following articles : 1 pair of woman's side- spring Shoes. 1 green plaid Dress. 1 violet- coloured stuff Dress, with flounce at the bottom. 3 calico Chemises. 1 black Shawl. 1 dark liusey Skirt. 3 calico Petticoats, two white, the other unbleached. 1 black cloth Jacket, with bell sleeves. 1, pair of Drawers. 1 pair of snuff- coloured Stays. 1 black Hat, piped with white, and ostrich feather. 1 Pawnticket of a dress, pledged at Bedwell's, Colchester. 1 Sovereign. By a female lodger, 20 years of age, short, rather stout, fresh complexion, and dark hair and eyes ; dressed when last seen in the stolen hat and dark waterproof cloak. Information to be given to Head Constable Downes, Town Hall, Colchester. — Bow- street, Ditember 20. Absconded between 12 noon aud 1 p. m. on the 13th inst., stealing £ 370, the moneys of his employer, SYDNEY HOWELL, a clerk, abont 25 years of age ( looks nearer 30), 5 feet 8 or 9 ioches high, rather large eyes, light brown hair, sandy whiskers, board ( rather long), aud moustache ( heavy), very pale, from the etlects of a recent severe illness, and slenderly made; wears a high silk hat or black billycock hat; he is a native of Exeter. £ 25 reward will be paid to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension and recovery of the money, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester, Lancashire. — Bow- street, December 18. Stolen about. 5 a. m. on the 16th instant, from s. lodging- house in Tunbridge Wells; an old dark- coloured paper Card- case, ppntaiuuig lis, in Money ; and a pedlar's Certificate, issued at Hastings on the loth Feb. last to Francis Allum, and endorsed at Tunbridge Wells on the 7th March last; also, nine dressing Combs, a white billycock Hat, aud an old Umbrella. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, long face, downeast look, much pockmarked about the nose, and brown hair; has the appearance of a stableman ; dressed in a cord jacket wjth brass buttons, and worsted cord trousers with tight legs. He will probably use the pedlar's Certificate and sell combe and Punch's Penny Almanack. He recently left Lewes Gaol, where he had been three months for felony. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. 1— Bow- street, December 18. Description of HENRY HORTON, labourer, of Burn- ham, Bucks, charged with stealing three Fowls on the 14th instant ( since recovtired) : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexiou, grey eyes, light brown hair, and . small whiskers on chin ; dressed in an old white • slop, corduroy trousers, lace- up boots, and black billyeock hat. Information to be given to Inspector Ray, Police Station, beaconsfield, or to Acting Sergeant Trevener, Burn- ham, Maidenhead, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Boubttrsot, Dxember 18. Description of CHARLES CLOUGH, manager for a com miller at Leeds, charged with stealing .£ 170 on the ldfch instant : he As about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 ins. high, rather stout built, fair complexion, light hair, sliget whiskers, nb moustache ; dressed when List seen in blue over- coat, black trousers, aud wore ft round felt hat. Information io be given to Superintendent Hunt, Detective Department, Police Office, Leeds.— Bow- street, December 18. Description of CHARLES ARNOLD, a broomdasber and chimneysweep, for whose apprehension a warrant is issued, t. irged with stealing 5s., a gold watch Key and Seal, & c., recovered, t he property of John Hawkins, at Warehorn, Kent, on ihe Gth iustaal: he ii 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 POLICE GAZETTE. • • - —= inches high, < M'k complexion and dark brown hair ; dressed in old dark coat, cord trousers, old dark cloth cap, and very old shoes oet up the front. Supposed in company with his brother about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches, full dark whiskers: most likely to be found hawking clothes pegs, green blooms, & c., and is well known at Horsham and East Grinstead, Sussex. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabulary, Asliford. — Bow- street, Dec. 18. Stolen on the 15th instant from a box in the dwelling- house of George Walker, bricklayer, iu the parish of Crowle, Lincolnshire : £ 7 10s. in Gold, and a black leather folding Purse. By ROBERT HAVEY, who had been workiug as a bricklayer's labourer for Mr. Walker, and lodged iu the house ; he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers round the cjiiu, brown eyes, stout make, has very sore eyes, and has a wound ( dr a sew on the left side from a wound) which he received whilst in the army ; dressed iu cotton cord jacket^ vegt and trousers, blue cloth cap, large flat top, similar to those worn by sailors, no peak, old faded niulller, strong laced boots, new; he is supposed to belong to Liverpool. Information to be given to Inspector Sowden, County Police Station, Epworth, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 18. Absconded from Bristol on the 7th instant, charged with embezzling the sum of £ S00, being the monies of the Bristol Sanitary Authority : JAMES HUTCHINSON, late rate collector, and sheriffs officer, about 40 years of age, 5 feot 6 inches high, sallow complexion, small eyes, dark hair, inclined to curl, dark whiskers aud moustache, turning grey, shaved on chin, well formed, and of smart active appearance ; generally dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Handcock, Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 16. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of JOHN PERKINS and FREDERICK PERKINS, cattle dealers, of Witton, near Droitwich, charged with obtaining Cattle from Messrs. Pugh and Stokes, auctioneers, Oswestry, by means of false pretences, with intent to defraud : John Perkins is about 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, small moustache, which may be shaved oft', has an ill looking countenance, swaggering gait, sways his head about when walking, and generally carries an ash stick with him. Frederick Perkins is about 46 years of age, about 5 feet 7i inches high, hair aud beard turning grey, and looks down when tidking ; generally wears a dark ctoth overcoat, and his hat on front part of head. They have the appearance of low cattle dealers, and are known in Hereford, Gloucester, Worcester, and Birmingham, at which places tliey attend fairs aud markets. Escapefl from the custody of the police at Tingewick, on the End instant, while being conveyed to Aylesbury Gaol, on a commitment for two months for a breach of the bye- laws of the Midland Railway Company, at Olney, on 2nd October last: JAMES HUTCHINGS, alias SAGGEY, a native of tSilverstone, Northamptonshire, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, and whiskers recently shaved off ; dressed when he escaped iu a shabby black jacket, cotton cord trousers and vest, a light mixture cloth cap with peak, and lace- up shoes ; has since been seen wearing a white billycock hat.
