Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. • « * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W-," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the afternoon of the 10th instant, the dead body of a female Child was found drowned in a pond at Aldcliffe. The murder is supposed to have been committed on the afternoon of the 8th instant, by a woman about 20 years of age, middle size, pale and rather good looking; wore a brown cloth jacket, trimmed with brown dog skin, black hat and veil, green plaid skirt, with light- grey overskirt, black imitation seal skin muff, witli white spots, a string of black beads round her neck and passed through the muff. The child is about 12 or 15 months old, blue eyes, dark eyelashes, light brown hair inclined to be curly ; dressed in a buff cotton frock with pink spots, black and red cotton skirt, a maroon stuff skirt, white flannel petticoat, white cotton chemise, and white worsted stockings, and shortly before her death was wearing a scarlet cloak with hood. A photograph of the child may be seen at the Skerton Police Statiou. Information to be given at the County Police Station, Skerton, Lancashire.— Bono- street, November 13. On the evening of the 8th ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born female child, was found in a water- closet attached to the third- class waiting room, at Longton Railway Station, and a coroner's jury having returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder,' against some person or persons unknown. A reward of .£ 50 will be paid by the Government to any person who will give such information aud evidence as shall lead to the discovery, and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the child ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Depart- ment will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given at any Police Station in the county of Stafford.— Bow- street, November 13. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of the 7th instant, four Wheat- ricks and three Hay- ricks on the premises of Mr. Benjamin Brunsdon, at Howle Farm, in the parish of Walford, Herefordshire, were set fire to, and damage done to the amount of .£ 800. Suspicion is attached to a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair, no whiskers, tuft of hair on chin, and has lost his left arm; dressed in dark jacket, cord trousers, and jimcrow hat; he recently worked on the premises, and is supposed to be well known in the Forest of Dean; he is likely to be found working with threshing machines at farmhouses. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Boss, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, November 18. BOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a fellow lodger at Chester, on the 21st instant : £ 4 10s., and a pedlar's Certificate, No. 118, " ranted to Francis Carey, at Chester, on the 26th September, 1872. Description of the offender, who will probably assume the name upon the certificate, and apply to have it endorsed: 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, aud slightly bow- legged ; he is a native of Wolverhampton, aud has probably made for that town. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester.— Bow- street, November 22. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 12- 30 and 2 p. m. on the 19th instant, the dwel- ling- house of Charles Wild, of Harrington Birch, in the parish of Brewood, was broken and entered, and the follow- ing property stolen therein: alight grey Jacket, with pockets on hips, and one on inside of left breast; and a light grey Vest, with brass buttons. By a tramp of the following des- cription, who was seen in the neighbourhood the same day : about 18 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build; dressed in dark cloth jacket, dark corduroy trousers, old black cap, and a pair of very old clogs ; was traced to Wol- verhampton, where he sold the vest ( since recovered). Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Fore- bridge, or to Sergeant Barrett, Police Station, Penkridge, Staffordshire.— Boic- street, November 22. During the night of the 12th instant, the residence of Mrs. Westmacott, of Edington, in the county of Somerset, was attempted to be broken into, and two men of the follow- ing description are strongly suspected : One about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, full face, sallow complexion, dark hair, cut short, dark moustache, whiskers shaved off; dressed in dark brown jacket, cord trousers, fitting tight to the leg, and round black hat. The other about 35 years of age, rather shorter than the other, dark complexion, full face, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark jacket, light trousers, fitting tight to the leg and round black hat, with broad brim, and carried a stick. Both men have the appearance of horse jockeys, and arrived at Highbridge, from Bristol, at 1 p. m. on the 12th, and at Edington Station, at 4' 30 p. m., aud were seen in front of Mrs. Westmacott's house between 6 and 7 p. m. Information to be given to Superintendent Jeffs, North Petherton, Somerset.— Bow- street, November 18. During the night of the 12th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Walter Rogers, of Watford, was entered, and the fol- lowing property stolen : two Table Covers— one green and black, the other blue and drab ; two plated Cruet Stands; four pairs of silver Nut Crackers ; a plated Knife and Fork ; a Pedestal Clock ; a silver Fruit Knife ; two Pocket Knives ; a gold Pencil- case ; a Thimble ; six large Knives ; six small do. ; all marked ' Bogers' on blade ; six Forks ; two pair of Carvers; twenty- six Spoons— three Table, six Egg, six Dessert, ten Tea, three Salt, one Mustard; one Butter Knife ; one plated Sugar Sifter; and a blue Overcoat with velvet collar. Information to be given to Inspector Chapman, Police Station Watford, Herts.— Bow- street, November 18. Stoleu by means of housebreaking, between S a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 15th instant, from a cottage in the parish of Ensham, Oxon : a black cloth Jacket aud Vest; a pair of light tweed Trousers, with dark stripe down the sides ; a pair of lace- up Shoes, with toe- caps, tips on heels, and brads in fore parts; and a flag Basket, the property of John Claridge. Supposed by a man of the following description, who was seen near the cottage, and who has pawned the jacket aud vest: about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, thin face, and no whiskers; dressed in dark coloured clothes ( he may be wearing the stolen trousers), and stiff felt billycock hat ; has a hole in the upper leather of one of his shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Witney, Oxon.— Bow- street, November 18. During the night of the 11th instant, the Golden Lion Inn, Carlisle, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein : a square wooden Cashbox, containing about 10s. worth of Copper aud a bottle of Irish Whiskey, the bottle has a crack down the centre. Information to be given to Chief Constable Bent, City Police Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen by housebreaking on the 9th instant, from No. 27, Praed- street, Paddington : forty silver Watches— twenty Horizontal and twenty English Levers ; twenty- four gold Watches— seven English Levers and seventeen Horizontal; 224 Eings— seventy- nine fancy, set with emeralds, garnets, diamonds, and rubies ; fifty- six siguet, set with blood stones, onyx, sardonyx, aud carbuncles, bright and coloured ; thirty- six wedding— twenty- two carat; thirty- eight keepers— nine and twelve carat; aud fifteen Paris- made garnet, ladies', hoop, aud horse- shoe patterns ; two gold Bracelets— one with three carbuncles in padlock, the other with coral bead centre; seventy fine gold Lockets, all sizes, double and single, plain, enamelled, aud chased ; ninety- five bright gold Lockets, double and engraved ; sixty- eight bright gold Lockets, single engraved ; ninety- eight gold Albert aud Neck Chains; and forty Necklets, bright and coloured.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, November 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a stable on the night of the 19tli instant: a dark brown Mare, 9 years old, 13 hands high, white star on forehead, hind fetlocks white, long switch tail, in fair condi- tion ; generally carries her tongue out. Also, at the same time and place, a light spring Cart, painted dark brown, no name on it; a cross spring underneath. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; to Superin- tendent Peerless, Uckfield ; to Sergeant Avery, Court House, Mark Cross; or at any Police Station in East Sussex. — Bow- street, November 22. Stolen between 8 p. m. on the 8th and 4 a m. on the 9th instant, from Feltham : a bay Gelding, aged, 14 hands high, white star on face ; a set of light cart Harness, with silver- plated mountings ; and a dark blue Cart, picked out with red, ' George Tillyer, Feltham, Middx.,' on off shaft.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, November 22. Stolen on the 18th instant, from a field at Beever Hall near Barnsley, Yorkshire : a black Colt, 3 years old, one hind fetlock white, white Btar on forehead, long mane and tail, and in good condition. Also a brown colt, 2 years old, well bred, in low condition, long mane and tail. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, West riding Constabulary, Barnsley.— Bow- street, November 22. Stolen during the night of the 14th instant, from a field at Copse- hill, Wimbledon : two Horses, one a bay Gelding, aged, 16 hands ; one a bay Mare, aged, 15 hands, white face, very fat.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, November 20. Stolen during the night of the 12th instant, from a fold on Lockinge Downs, Berks, supposed by some drovers, when on their way to East Ilsley Fair : a half- bred Lamb, full grown, has a dot of blue paint either on the top of the head, or between the shoulders, and trimmed for sale ; the property of Mr. John Brown, farmer, West Lockinge. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Neill, Wantage, Berks.— Bow- street, November 20. Stolen from a field at Grimston, near York, during the night of the 14th instant, four young Horses: one a brown Colt, 2 years old, with white patch down the face; a bay yearling Colt, star on forehead, and white hind fetlocks ; a brown yearling Filly, star on forehead; and a bay yearling Filly, with white patch down the face, and white hind fetlocks. Information to be given to Inspector Gibson, East riding Constabulary, Escrick.— Bow street, November 20. Stoler. from Broad- street Common, parish of Nash, near Newport, Monmouth : a dark cream- colour mare Pony, in foal, 4 years old, 12 hands high, white star in forehead, and near fore foot white, black mane and tail, in very good condi- tion ; the property of Alfred Adams, who will pay a reward of £ 1 on its recovery, and conviction of the offender or offen- ders. Information to be given at the Chief Constables Office, Abergavenny ; or to Superintendent Mcintosh, Pontypool; or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary, Newport, Monmouth.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen ( supposed by tramps) from a field at Marton, during the night of the 7th instant : two male Donkeys, one 6 years old, brown body, white belly, and a dark speck of hair on one knee, the other older, light brown, very long tail, dark nose, aud blind of one eye; the property of Patrick Mullins, and Samuel Gardner. Two men of the fol- lowing description were seen on the morning of the 8th ins., driving them along the London- road, in the direction of Wellington, or Wolverhampton : one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown whiskers, all round the face ; dressed in a white soft billycock hat, old brown jacket, cotton cord breeches and leggings. The other about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high; dressed in bla; k cap, light fustian jacket, double breasted waistcoat, with white bone buttons, old moleskin trousers. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Caswell, County Constabulary Office, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen from a field at Parkway, in the parish of Ledbury, Hereford, on the night of the 10th instant : a dark brown mare Pony, 13 hands high, 5 years old, the property of Mr. Richard Skipp, farmer, Ledbury. Information to be given to Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire. — Bow- street, November 15. Stolen during the night of the Gth instant, from a field n? ar St. Ann's- road, Tottenham : a dark brown Horse, aged, 15 hands high, one fetlock white, star on forehead, switch tail, and in good condition : by two men, one is 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and fair complexion ; dressed in round fustian jacket, cord trousers, fitting tight, and hard- bitter cap. The other is 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and whiskers ; dressed in black hat, aud light wrapper round neck. £ 20 reward will be given to any person who will give such information as shall to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. — Metropolitan Police, Y Division, November 15. Stolen from a field at Ledbury, on the night of the 8th instant : a dark chesuut mare Pony, about 13 hands high, tail squared ; also a spotted mare Pony, about 13 hands high, lost one eye, tail squared. Both ponies have been lately taken from their foals. Information to be given to Superintendent Blunsden, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, November 13. On the night of the 24th ultimo, 7 Milch Cows, 5 Heifers in calf, six rearing Calves, and a brown half- bred Mare, seized as a distress for rent upon the Hyde Farm, Woolhope, Herefordshire, in the occupation of Joseph Till, were rescued therefrom and driven away ; the cows are in milk— one is a cross of short- horn and Hereford, light spotted with rather white face, rising 4 years old, heavy in calf ; one a small brown cow, in low condition, mottled face, rising 4 years old ; one a big white cow, heavy in calf, about S years old ; another a brown and white spotted cow, about 5 years old, in calf ; aud the three other cows are a cross of Irish; the heifers are in calf— one, a grey, had ' logger on, and hair round neck rubbed off; one, a grey short- hern, had left hind leg broke, and turns her hoofs out, coming 3 years ; another, a small smutty one ; and the other two have light faces ; also six heifer Calves, two of which are about 11 months old, white and a little red; the mare is aged, about 14 hands high, star on forehead, has been docked but tail grown long, shaken in the shoulders, and a bad goer down hill. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the G POLICE GAZETTE. December 27 discovery of the said animals or any of them, and the convic- tion of the parties concerned in the rescue and removal, shall receive £ 20 reward on application to Messrs W. H. 11. and T. Hobbs Auctioneers, Worcester ; at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superintendent Bluusdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, November 13. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 15th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlemeut : JOSEPH ANGUS, cashier, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown hair, slight whiskers round his face, slight moustache, fresh complexion, round face ; dressed iu a brown mixture suit, silk hat, walks erect and active, and is of smart appearance. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street, November 22. Description of FRANCIS WILLIAM SHILLITO, clerk and accountant, who absconded from Rotherham, on the 23rd ult., charged with embezzling £ 30 : he is about 30 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers round his chin," dark eyes, round visage, propor- tionate build, walks erect, and is of gentlemanly appearance. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, Court House, Rotherham, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his - apprehension.— Brno- street, November 22. Absconded from Pont- aber- pengarm, Bedwelty, Mon- mouthshire, on the 10th instant, charged with stealing an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, common albert Chain attached, small bar at the end ; two Welsh flannel Shirts, black with white stripes, half worn, holes in elbows, the pro- perty of John Griffiths ; a double- case silver lever Watch, common Guard and Key attached, ' J. Hallet Bearage' on one side, ' Watchmaker and Jeweller,' on the other, No. 8940, a small piece out of the centre of dial ; a common leather Purse, with brass clasp, containing 15s.; a pair of brown ribbed cloth Trousers und Vest; a moleskin ditto, with pearl buttons ; a pair of light Boots ; a white calico Shirt, ' G. C.' worked iu red silk on right side of tail ; three small Bags, one containing buttons, & c.; the property of Geo. Churchill, a fellow servant. GEORGE DAY, a farm servant, about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 5 iuches high, stout, fair com- plexion, urowu hair, sandy whiskers round chin, very bushy, blue eyes, round face, and rathev long nose ; dressed in dark cloth jacket and vest, cord trousers, watertight boots, long yellow leather leggings, new soft jimcrow hat or old black cloth cap ; supposed to be a native of Hampshire, and states that he has been to sea. Information to be given to Super- intendent Fowler, Tredegar Iron Works, Monmouthshire.— Dow- street, November 22. Absconded on the 18th ultimo, from Bidford, Warwick- shire, charged with stealing a Shovel and a Jar, since been recovered: STEPHEN HOUGHTON, a stone mason by trade, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 11 iuches high, dark com- plexion, loDg narrow features, black bushy hair, inclined to curl, dark whiskers, small rioustache, walks very erect; supposed to be dressed in a dirty white slop, cord trousers, plaid woollen shirt, old lace- up boots, no heel on right boot, and a brown billycock hat; supposed to be in the neighbour- hood of Dudley. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunbar, Alcester, or to P. C. Reynolds, Bidford, Warwick- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 22. Stolen in Shrewsbury, on the 14th instant, a silver hunt- ing Watch No. 560, ' T. G.' on front case, maker H. Rowley, Shrewsbury, a hair Guard, gold mounted attached ; a black cloth frock Coat. By a man 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, has a cast in one eye, lost some front teeth, rather sickly looking ; dressed iu dark clothes. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, November 20. Description of HENRY J. BROWN, late a coachman SANDWICH or SHIRLEY, who, while under the pretence of taking lodgings, stole from the house of Mr. Chas. Tundley, Park- street, Forebridge, Stafford, on the 16th instant, a small wooden Box containing £ 2 10s. in Gold : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, rather thin, dark hair and com- plexion, no beard or moustache, a cast in both eyes, especially the left, and has only one tooth in upper jaw, which is very prominent when talking; dressed iu top hat, much turned up at the sides, double- breasted black frock coat, dark waist- coat and trousers ; he is fond of quoting Scripture, and represented that he had obtained a situation as clerk iu the Audit Office at the Railway Station, Stafford. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Ferebridgc, Stafford.— Bow- street, November 18. Absconded from Salisbury, Wilts, on the 12th instant, charged with embezzling money, belonging to the Great Western Railway Company, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued : GEORGE W. WOOD, for some time clerk at the goods department, Salisbury Station, 25 yrs. of age, 6 feet high, blotches on cheeks, scar on and extending down left side of nose, grey eyes, brown hair, sandy beard and whiskers, two or more front upper teeth missing, inclined to be round- shouldered, walks limping, and with a swinging gait, through having a wouud in the right leg, and speaks in the Devonshire dialect, of which county he is a native; dressed when he absconded iu a blue cloth pilot jacket, light woollen mixture coat ( underneath) and vest, two pairs of trousers, balrnoral boots, and black billycock hat. It is sup- posed he will leave for America. Information to be given to Head Constable White, Police Office, Salisbury, Wilts.— Bovi- street, November 18. Stolen on the morning of the 13th instant, from a wheelwright's shop at Olney : five screw Augers, from ^- inCh to 1- inch size ; and a large iron Brace, with three boring Bits, from | inch to 1- inch size, the property of Mr. John Negus, wheelwright. Also, from a cottuge at Olney, at the same time, a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, in an unfinished state, the property of Mr. Robert Field, shoemaker. By a tramp- ing wheelwright's smith, who had been a short time employed by Mr. Negus, and lodged with Mr. Field : he gave the name of JAMES CLARK, rf Manchester, is about 55 yeais of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, grey hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, and rather round shoulders ; dressed in a black billycock hat, old black cloth coat, dirty fustian vest and trousers, and blucher boots. Information to be given to Sergeant Batchelor, Olney, or to Inspector Hall, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 18. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: JOSEPH FLIGG, clerk, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, slight moustache, very little wniskers, very tliiu face, and sharp features ; dressed in a light suit, sometimes wears a brown overcoat, generally wears a paper collar and front, without tie or scarf, and black felt billycock hat. Information to be given to the Chief Con- stable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- sireet, November 15. Description of WILLIAM JOHNSON, a travelling draper in the employ of Mr. George McDonald, Nicholls- street, Leicester, for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted, for embezzlement, and who absconded from Coventry on the 9th instant: 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, black hair and beard, no whiskers, high cheekbones, proportionate build, walks slightly stiff with one of his legs, it having been broken, and is a native of Wigtoushire, Scotland. Information to be given to Head Constable Norris, Coventry, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, No- vember 15. Description of WILLIAM THREASHER, alias BLOOR, charged on a warrant, who absconded from Stoke- on- Trent, on the 31st ultimo, charged with stealing four Casks, the property of the North Staffordshire Railway Company : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout made, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, round face ; , ind butler in the" employ of ^ a gentleman' in Prestwich who Idrefed fIot iacke'- rouud bIue cloth Scotch cap with absconded on the morning of the 8th instant, stealing a large !
