Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reforence to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre' hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made, It ifl requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the afternoon of the 10th instant, the dead body of a female Child was found drowned in a pond at Aldcliffe. The murder is supposed to have been committed on the afternoon of the 8th instant, by a woman about 20 years of age, middle size, pale and rather good looking; wore a brown cloth jacket, trimmed with brown dog skin, black hat and veil, green plaid skirt, with light- grey overskirt, black imitation seal skin muff, with white spots, a string of black beads round her neck and passed through the muff. The child is about 12 or 15 months old, blue eyes, dark eyelashes, light brown hair inclined to be curly ; dressed in a buff cotton frock with pink spots, black and red cotton skirt, a maroon stuff skirt, white tlaunel petticoat, white cotton chemise, and white worsted stockings, and shortly before her death was wearing a scarlet cloak with hood. A photograph of the child may be seen at the Skerton Police Station. Information to be given at the County Police Station, Skerton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 13. On the evening of the 8th ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born female child, was found in a water- closet attached to the third- class waiting room, at Longton Railway Station, and a coroner's jury having returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder,' against some person or persons unknown. A reward of ,£ 50 will be paid by the Government to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery, and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the child ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Depart- ment will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to anv accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given at any Police Station in the county of Stafford.— Bow- street, November 13. Handkerchief ; a cork Screw, with ' Customs' on it ; two Bottles of rum ; a Bottle of Sherry ; some Meat, & c. In- formation to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, November 11. Between 6 and 11 p. m. on the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of John Dunn, situate at Moore- lane, in the parish of Kingswinford, Staffordshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about 14s. in Silver, and a gold albert Chain with Locket attached, which has an engraved horse- shoe, on one side, and a spaniel dog on the other. Information to be given to Superintendent Mills, Brierly Hill, Staffordshire. Bow- street, November 8. Description of PATRICK CALLIGHAN, alias ' PLUCK,' a puddler, charged with highway robbery at Tees Tilery, near Middlesbrough, on the 2nd instant. He is 27 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and moustache, shaves his whiskers off, stout figure ; dressed when he left Tees Tilery in black cloth cap with covered peak, black cloth coat and vest, dark grey cloth trousers, large muffler, and lace- up boots. He is well known among puddlcrs, har. worked at Darlington, Witton Park, and Jarrow. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Hiding Constabulary, South Stockton, or to Inspector robson, Police Office, North Ormesbury, near Middlesbrough.— Bow- street, November 8. Absconded from Towcester, charged with highway robbery : JOSEPH LOVEBIDGE, a gipsey tinker, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, no whiskers ; dressed in a double- breasted cord waistcoat, with fustian back and sleeves, large pearl buttons, cotton cord trousers, fitting tight round the legs, strong boots, and cap, the lower eyelid at the corner of right eye has been injured, and causes it to hare a peculiar appearance ; he is supposed to be a deserter from the War- wick Militia, has a brother living at Neithrop, near Banbury, and other relations living in the borough of Warwick, one of which places he is expected to have gone. Information to be given to Superintendent Osborn, Towcester, Northampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 8. On the night of the 3rd instant, the North Eastern Railway Company's goods warehouse, at Haswell Station, was broken and entered, and three parcels containing the follow- ' ins; articles stolen therein : two pieces of black and red striped Woollen Shirting, 51 yards in each piece ; 12 pair3 of lads strong nailed Boots, heelplated, sizes 11 and 12; 2 dozpn of lady's brown Spanish Hose ; 2 dozen white cotton ditto;! 6 Scotch lambswool Shirts, man's size ; 6 pairs of Scotch j lambs wool Drawers ; 6 pairs of Shetland wool drab Drawers ; and 1 dozen woollen Scarfs, of various colours Information to be given to Superintendent Scott, County Constabulary Office, Castle- Eden, Durham— Bow- street, November 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 11th instant, the Golden Lion Inn, Carlisle, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein : a square wooden Cashbox, containing about 10s. worth of Copper and a bottle of Irish Whiskey, the bottle has a crack down the centre. Information to be given to Chief Constable Bent, City Police Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen by housebreaking on the 9th instant, from No. 27, Praed- street, Paddington : forty silver Watches— twenty Horizontal and twenty English Levers; twenty- four gold Watches— seven English Levers and seventeen Horizontal; 224 Eings— seventy- nine fancy, set with emeralds, garnets, diamonds, and rubies ; fifty- six signet, set with blood stones, onyx, sardonyx, and carbuncles, bright and coloured ; thirty- six wedding— twenty- two carat; thirty- eight keepers— nine and twelve carat; and fifteen Paris- made garnet, ladies', hoop, and horse- shoe patterns ; two gold Bracelets— one with three carbuncles in padlock, the other with coral bead centre; seventy fine gold Lockets, all sizes, double and single, plain, enamelled, and chased ; ninety- five bright gold Lockets, double and engraved ; sixty- eight bright gold Lockets, single engraved ; ninety- eight gold Albert and Neck Chains ; and forty Necklets, bright and coloured.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, November 13. During the night of the 5th instant, Ashmore House, Cudham, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about £ 20 in Gold ; a single- barrel Gun, with cock broken; a double- barreled ditto ; three damask table Cloths, one has iron moulds on it, and one quite new; five damask table Napkins ; five chamber Towels ; two white Petticoats, one new, not finished; a pair of clipping Scissors ; a pair of lady's fancy ditto; a pair of plain ditto ; a blue packing HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Broad- street Common, parish of Nash, near Newport, Monmouth : a dark cream colour mare Pony, in foal, 4 years old, 12 hands high, white star in forehead, and near fore foot white, black mane and tail, in very good condi- tion ; the property of Alfred Adams, who will pay a reward of £ 1 on its recovery, and conviction of the offender or offen- ders. Information to be given at the Chief Constables Office, Abergavenny ; or to Superintendent Mcintosh, Pontypool; or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary, Newport, Monmouth.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen ( supposed by tramps) from a field at Marton, duriDg the night of the 7th instant : two male Donkeys, one 6 years old, brown body, white belly, and a dark speck of hair on one knee, the other older, light brown, very long tail, dark nose, and blind of one eye; the property of Patrick Mullins, and Samuel Gardner. Two men of the fol- lowing description were seen on the morning of the 8th ins., driving them along the London- road, in the direction of Wellington, or Wolverhampton : one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown whiskers, all round the face ; dressed in a white soft billycock hat, old brown jacket, cotton cord breeches and leggings. The other about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high; dressed in blajk cap, light fustiau jacket, double breasted waistcoat, with white bone buttons, old moleskin trousers. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Caswell, County Constabulary Office, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen from a field at Parkway, in the parish of Ledbury, Hereford, on the night of the 10th instant : a dark brown mare Pony, 13 hands high, 5 years old, the property of Mr. Richard Skipp, farmer, Ledbury. Information to be given to Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire. — Bow- street, November 15. Stolen during the night of the 6th instant, from a field n? ar St. Ann's- road, Tottenham : a dark brown Horse, aged, 15 hands high, one fetlock white, star on forehead, switch tail, and in good condition : by two men, one is 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and fair complexion ; dressed in round fustian jacket, cord trousers, fitting tight, and hard- hitter cap. The other is 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and whiskers ; dressed in black hat, and light wrapper round neck. £ 20 reward will be given to any person who will give such information as shall to the apprehension and convietion of the offender or offenders. — Metropolitan Police, Y Division, November 15. Stolen from a field at Ledburv, on the night of the 8th instant : a dark cheanut mare Pony, about 13 hands high, tail squared ; also a spotted mare Pony, about 13 hands high, lost one eye, tail squared. Both ponies have been lately taken from their foals. Information to be given to Superintendent Blunsden, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, November 13. On the night of the 24th ultimo, 7 Milch Cows, 5 Heifers in calf, six rearing Calves, and a brown half- bred Mare, seized as a distress for rent upon the Hyde Farm, Woolhope, Herefordshire, in the occupation of" Joseph Till, were rescued therefrom and driven away ; the cows are in milk— one is a cross of short- horn and Hereford, light spotted with rather white face, rising 4 years old, heavy in calf; one a small brown cow, in low condition, mottled face, rising 4 years old ; one a big white cow, heavy in calf, about 8 years old ; another a brown and white spotted cow, about 5 years old, in calf; and the three other cows are a cross of Irish; the heifers are in calf— one, a grey, had ' logger' on, and hair round neck rubbed off ; one, a grey short- horn, had left hind leg broke, and turns her hoofs out, coming 3 years; another, a small smutty one ; and the other two have light faces ; also six heifer Calves, two of which are about 11 months old, white and a little red ; the mare is aged, about 14 hands high, star on forehead, has been docked but tail grown long, shaken in the shoulders, and a bad goer down hill. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the discovery of the said animals or any of them, and the convic- tion of the parties concerned in the rescue and removal, shall receive £ 20 reward on application to Messrs W. H. R. and T. Hobbs, Auctioneers, Worcester; at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, November 13. Description of JAMES McCAIL, charged with stealing a Horse, Cart, and Harness, on the 6th instant, at Durham ( recovered): he is 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fair con plexion, small sandy whiskers round the face, sup- posed shaved off, tattooed on hands, bald at the top of head, supposed to wear a silver plate on the crown of his head, has been in the Infantry and Militia Eegiments, frequents public- houses, plays a tin whistle, has with him a small copper trumpet, and ( speaks with a broad Irish accent; dressed in black cloth shooting coat, with silk facing, white linen jacket underneath, yellow cord trousers, a small piece torn out of the right leg, white woollen muffler, figures at each corner representing the French War, elastic- side boots, and black stiff felt billycock hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Wilson, Durham.— Bow- street, Noovember 11. Stolen from a field at Cholmondeston, near Nantwich, during the night of the 6th instant: a grey horse Pony, about 12 hands high, aged 5 years, and has a wart near the flank; the property of Thos. Wm. Vickers. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire. — Bow- street, November 11. Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from Epsom : a black cart Mare, aged, 16 hands high, near hind foot white, legs has been trimmed, and has a forcy appearance, a white spot between ears, carries his head high when walking.— Metropo- litan Police, V Division, November 8. Stolen between 2' 30 p. m. on the 26th, and II a. m. on the 27th ultimo, from a field at Putney, a dark bay cob Gelding, 14 hands high, black points, rather short tail, slightly chipped knees, and small saddle marks.— Metropolitan Police, V Divi- sion, November 8. Stolen from a field at Caronisclawdd, during the night of the 25th ultimo, the property of Mr. John Williams : an aged dark mare Pony, white star on forehead, blind of near eye, near hind leg swollen, and in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Police Station, Aber- ystwith, or to Sergeant Lyons, Tregaron, Cardiganshire.— Bow- street, November 6. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: JOSEPH FLIGG, clerk, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, slight moustache, very little whiskers, very thin face, and sharp features ; dressed in a light suit, semetimes wears a brown overcoat, generally wears a paper collar and front, without tie or scarf, and black felt billycock hat. Information to be given to the Chief Con- stable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow street, November 15. Description of WILLIAM JOHNSON, a travelling draper in the employ of Mr. George McDonald, Nicholls- street, Leicester, for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted, for embezzlement, and who absconded from Coventry on the 9th instant: 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, black hair and beard, no whiskers, high cheekbones, proportionate build, walks slightly stiff with one of his legs, it having been broken, and is a native of 1 Wigtonshire, Scotland. Information to be given to Head Constable Norris, Coventry, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, No- vember 15. Description of WILLIAM THREASHER, alias BLOOR, charged on a warrant, who absconded from Stoke- on- Trent, on the 31st ultimo, charged with stealing four Casks, the property of the North Staffordshire Railway Company : be is 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout made, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, round face ; 2 POLICE GAZETTE. November 15. dressed in blue pilot jacket, round blue cloth Scotchcap, with peak, moleskin trouners ; he was a wagoner in the employ of the company, and has also been a boatman on the canal a many years. Information to be given to Detective Inspector Bold, North Staffordshire Railway, Stoke- on- Trent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 15. Description of a female wanted for embezzling the sum of £ 1 2i. 6d. the moneys of her • employers : a dressmaker, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, good teeth ; dressed in dark grey waterproof cloak, light blue dress, alpine bat, blue bird wing at side.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, November 15. Absconded from Tottington Lower End, Lancashire, charged with stealing two pieces of Kersey and one Wrapper from Sowerby Bridge, between the 16th and 21st ultimo, ( wrapper siDce recovered): BUTTERWORTH HOLDEN, a cloth fuller, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, stout build, and has two small moles on left cheek, and one on right; will no doubt seek work in some cloth fulling mill. Information to be given to Superintendent Ormsby, West Riding Constabu- lary, Halifax, York, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, November 13. Absconded from Saint George's, Shropshire, charged with stealing a black cloth Jacket : WILLIAM MASLEY, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet high, stoutly built, bow- legged, dark brown hair, rather dark complexion, whiskers shaved off, lost most of his front teeth ; dressed in cotton cord trou- sers, worn inside at bottom of legs, dark cloth vest, white linen slop, coarse white linen shirt, red and white muffler, brown Scotch cap, white peak and silk band, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, or to Serjeant Whyley, Oakengates, Salop.— Bow- street, November 13. Absconded oa the 8th instant, from the Turf Club 4, Grafton- street, stealing £ 27 in Gold and Silver: a porter, 42 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, hair and whiskers turning grey ; dressed in a blue melton over- coat, black trousers, and high black hat.— Metropolitan I'olice, C Division, November 13. Absconded from Ross on the 18th ultimo, charged with larceny : TOM JOHNSON, 22 years of age, about 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, dark hair, cut short behind, bald on top of head, and stoutly built ; dressed in a brown cloth jacket, cord trousers, fitting tight to the legs, laoe- up boots, and generally wears a fur cap ; is a groom and supposed to be at some inn or hotel in Worcestershire, clipping horses, and has in his possession two clipping machines, the one a ' Clarke's patent,' with three teeth broken out on left side. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Ross, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bmv- street, November 13. A - warrant has been issued for the apprehension of THOMAS EDWARD IRONS, a traveller in the boot and shoe trade, charged with embezzling several sums of Money : he is about 6 feet high, 54 years of age, large dark brown beard and moustache, prominent front teeth, stoops slightly, of good address, and respectable appearance. He lodged at No. 25, Inkerman- terrace, Northampton, up to the 25th ult., and has sincc been traced to Oxenholme, near Kendal, where his wife and family reside. He is well known in Bradford, Liverpool, Northampton, and Kendal, having represented several of the principal firms in these neighbourhoods. Information to be given to Inspector Bowen, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, November 13. Absconded from Bradford- on- Avon, on the 9th instant, charged with stealing a pair of nearly new mixture cloth Trousers, black and grey striped, tly fronts, lined with buff- coloured lining with a violet stripe down it: a man, about 29 years of age, about 4 feet high, deformed in the back, light hair and complexion ; dressed in dark grey jacket and trousers, jacket torn at the sleeve and back, and light cloth hat; he is a painter, has a very rough appearance, and will probably call at Police Stations for reli° f. Information to be given to Inspector Maggs, Bradford- on- Avon, Wilts.— Bow- street, November 13. Description of WILLIAM MORLEY, charged with stealing a patent lever silver Watch, No. 5800, on the 29th ultimo: he is 22 years'of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, parted down the centre, no whiskers, slight moustache, walks very erect, good looking, has lost the third finger of right hand, and of gentlemanly appearance ; frequents theatres and concert halls, sometimes takes a part, and occasionally goes as steward on board a screw steamer. Information to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, South Shields, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 13. Absconded on the 8th instant, embezzling three £ 10 and tffree £ 5 Bank of England Notes, and £ 15 in Gold and Silver : WILLIAM HENRY HASLOCK, clerk, 30 years of age, 8 feet 8 inches high, curly hair, dark eyes, complexion, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, high black hat with mourning band, and is likely to go to America.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, November 13. Absconded on the 6th instant, from 26, Newman- street, Oxford- street, stealing a Japanese dice Box, carved ivory, containing £& 10s. in Gold and Silver : a youth, 16 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, and hair ; dressed in dark clothes, of shabby appearance.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, November 11. ing. £ 5d reward will be paid by the Wolverhampton Gas Company upon his apprehension aud conviction. Information to be given to Chief Constable Segrave, Wolverhampton.— Bow- street, November 11. Absconded from Welshpool, on the 30th ultimo, charged on a warrant with obtaining £ 2 from Elizabeth Jones, at Pantgias, by false pretences : a woman calliug herself ELLEN HUGHES, alias LLOYD, a native of Dolgelly, about 58 yrs. of age, middle height, rather stout build, full fresh face, squints, speaks with a Welsh accent, and turns her face slightly on one side. She takes lodgings in some out of the way place, aud states that she has valuable papers with some clergyman, and has bad a sum of money from him upon them, she borrows money to repay; she is supposed to be dressed iu a black velvet bonnet, pepper- and- salt- coloured woollen shawl, and grey winsey dress, sometimes wears a black straw hat with large brim ; she is well known about Llanbrynmair, Cemmes, Machynlleth, Aberdovy, Carno, Dolgelley, Llandrillo, Llan- rbaiadr, and in most parts of North Wales, Chester, and Liverpool; she also states that she wants to buy butter, fruit, & e. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Rogers, Guils- field, near Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, Nov. 8. Stolen on the 2nd instant, the property of Joseph Watson, of Kirk Ella Grange, farmer : a new dark mixture cloth Top- coat, with a pocket in each lap at the outside, a small ticket pocket on the right side, and one inside breast pocket; aud a pair of drab woollen cord Trousers. By a man who had been living with Mr. Watson, goes by the name of WATSON SAM, and belongs to Norfolk, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, aud stout; dressed iu a dark cloth coat, blue guernsey, cord or fustian trousers, blue cloth cap, with peak, aud strong lace boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellerker, Wei ton, Brough, York.— Bow- street, November 8. Absconded from Halesworth on the 30th ultimo, charged with embezzlement: JONATHAN HOWLETT JORDAN, a lath render, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache ; dressed when he absconded in a light tweed suit and deer- stalker hat, but has also a dark suit and fur cap with him ; has a relative named Stead living at Baltic Wharf, Harrow Bridge, Stratford, Essex, a dealer in firewood ; it is suspected he will endeavour to leave the country for America; all expenses will be paid and a photograph forwarded on appli- cation to Inspector Taylor, Halesworth, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 8. Stolen iu the parish of Wouldham, on the 1st instant: an old- fashioned large- size pair- case silver Watch, and silver Chain attached, the property of John Martin. By a man, who lodged iu the house, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in white slop, moleskin trousers, and black cap.
