Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail Iietters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found at 2 p m. on the 28th ultimo, in a field in the occupation of Mr. John Weighall, leading from Whitby to Ruswarp, the dead body of a newly born male child ; an inquest was held on the 29th ultimo, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' returned against some person or persons unknown. From the medical testimony, it appeared the child had been grasped by the throat until it died. Information to be given to Superintendent Clarkson, North riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 3. Charged with the wilful murder of her infant Child, aged three months, at Manchester, on the 4th ultimo : ANN REGAN, about 22 years of age, 5 feet I or 2 inches high, thin pale features, large nose, brown eyes, and dark brown hair ; dressed in an old black velvet bonnet, dark grey jacket, and brown skirt. She will probably call at workhouses in the country, as she has no settled abode. Information to be giveu to the Deputy Chief Constable, Town Ilall, Man- chester.— Bow- street, May 1. Found on the afternoon of the 19th instant, in a stream of water at the Hoppits, in the borough of Hertford, the body of a newly born male child, wrapped iu an old dark blue and white broad striped cotton Duster, with ink marks upon it, supposed to have been a part of a window blind ; and an old piece of red faded curtain Lining, a portion of a brick was fastened to a cord, and tied to the body of the child. At the Coroner's inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford. — Bow- street, April 24. FORGERY. Description of WALTER SHEARMON, late secretary to the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, No. 3 Branch, Birmingham, who is charged with forgery : 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, full sandy beard aud moustache, fair complexion, fresh colour, high shoulder bones, which makes him appear hollow in the back, a little bow- legged, has lost little finger right hand as far as second joint, which nas grown very thick, he is a native of Swindon, where his friends reside, and he formerly was au apprentice in the engine sheds at that place. It is believed he will emigrate. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, May 1. Absconded on the 22nd instant, charged with passing a forged Cheque for £ 70 at Newnham Bank, aud for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued: JOHN KING, a horse dealer, of 0, George- street, Gloucester, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather thin make, pale complexion, dark hair and whiskers, walks lame, and with a shuffliuggait; dressed in a soft black jim crow hat, dark clothes, aud generally wears odd boots ( one a Wellington). £ 5 reward and all expenses will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to his apprehension and conviction. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester, or to Superintendent Chipp, Coleford, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, April 29. £ 100 reward will be paid by the Leicestershire Banking Company to any person or persons giving sucli information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of a man who uttered the undermentioned forged or false Cheques, viz.: a Cheque on Pares's Leicestershire Banking Company, dated 4th March, 1872, purporting to be drawn by T. Whitaker, payable to Mr. Smith, for £ 25, and beariug the forged in- dorsement of ' W. Symington;' and a Cheque on the Leicester- shire Banking Company, dated 18th April, 1872, purporting to be drawn by W. Ward, payable to Mr. Fetch, for £ 85 10s. The first- mentioned cheque was uttered at the Branch Bank of the Leicestershire Banking Company at Market Harborough on the 8th ultimo, and the other at the Branch Bank of the Leicestershire Banking Company at Melton Mowbray on the 19th instant. It is believed that both cheques were drawn and uttered by the same person : he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair and whiskers; was respectably dressed in black cloth coat with pockets on hips, dark trousers with narrow lavender stripes, and black deerstalker hat; had the appearance of a clerk. Information to be given to Chief Constable Goodyer, Leicester ; to Superintendent Platts, Melton Mowbray; to Superintendent Iliffe, Market Harborough; or at any of the County Constabulary Stations in Leicestershire.— Bow- street, April 26. Charged on a warrant with forging an acceptance to a Bill of Exchange for £ 420: JUAN LUIZ PONCE DE LEON, late of 68, Mark- lane, and 36, Clifton- road, St. John's Wood, wine merchant, 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, no beard or whiskers, dark auburn mous- tache, lound face, high cheek bones, sunken eyes, long blotched neck, walks very quick and upright, gestulates much when speaking, talks very excitedly, and of gentlemanly appear- ance ; dresses well, he is a Spanaird, and speaks very good English. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. — Bow- street, April 22. ROBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Mr. Henry King, on the New- market Race- course, on the 30th ultimo : a gold Watch, open face, ' J. G. P.' on the back. Information to be given to Inspector Steggle, Newmarket, West Suffolk.— Bow- street, May 3 Stolen about 10' 30 ' p. m. on the 24th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman at Durham : a patent silver lever Watch, No. 40177, maker French, Newcastle- on- Tyne. £ 2 reward will be paid on recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wilson, Town Hall, Durham.— Bow- street, May 1. Stolen from the person during a confirmation service, holded in the Priory Church, Great Malvern, on the 22nd inst., a Purse, containing £ 5 in Gold, about 10s. in Silver ; and ear Pick ; a small Almanack, with name written therein ; and a Sixpence with a hole iu it, the property of Miss Inglis. Also a Purse, containing about £ 3 in Silver, and a pocket Handkerchief, the property of Mrs. Ballard. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, County Police Office, Upton- on- Severn, or to Acting Inspector Turner, Great Malvern, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 29. Stolen from the person at Hambledon Steeplechase Races, on the 19th instant, a plain gold link Albert Chain, a bunch of small Keys attached. Information to be given to Super- intendent Drew, ' Fareham, or Sergeant Byles, Hants Con- stabulary, Havant.— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen from the person at Hambledon Steeple Chase on the 19th instant: a gold consular lever Watch, double case, jewelled in eight holes, compensation balance, engraved on inside case- -' Presented to the Rev. John Ellis by numbers of his friends as a token of their regard for his pubiic services in Diss, September, 1862.' Information to be given to Super- intendant Drew, Hants Constabulary, Fareham.— Bow- street, April 24. Stolen from the person whilst at a knurr and spell match at New Bellevue Grounds, Ovenden, a gold English lever Watch, engine- turned cases, plain centre, white dial, black figures, and capped and jewelled. Information to be given to Superintendent Ormsby, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax.— Bow- street, April 22. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the afternoon of the 26th ultimo, the gardener's- house at Z. Walkers, Esq., of Hall Green, in the parish of Yardley, Worcestershire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : £ 3 in Gold; 16s. 3d. in Silver; a silver Geneva Watch, with white enamel dial, sunken seconds, No. 66447. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Aston, or to Sergeant Higginson, Constabulary Station, Acocks Green, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, May 3. During the night of the 29th ultimo, the house and shop of Mr. Lock, draper, of Hoddesdon, was broken and entered by a back window, and stolen therein: two Cheques, one for £ 33, on Sharpies and Co., Hertford, the other for £ 11 13s., on the London Joint Stock Bank; about £ 15 in Gold, 10s. in Silver, and some Copper Money ; two dozens of gentlemen's silk Handkerchiefs, some ladies' ditto and Scarfs, and a quantity of ladies' kid Gloves, Nos. 8, 8|, and Information to be giveu to Sergeant Prennett, Hoddesdon, or to Superintendent Bygrave, Ware, Herts.— Bow- street, May 3. Ou the night of the 29th ultimo, a grocer's shop in Newent, was broken and entered, and about 10s. in Silver and Copper, and a dark small ribbed cloth Jacket, nearly new, to fit a small size man, pockets at side, stolen therein. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, May 1. During the night of the 26th ultimo, Cymman Hall, in the parish of Hope, Flintshire, was entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: a quantity of Wall Paper; an Ale Tap ; a Hand Saw and an Axe, both stamped ' J. Evans ;' a Brace and Bit; a Cold Chisel; a Hand Plane and Pincers; a Tool Basket ; a Hand Brush ; and a pair of women's cloth Boots. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Adams, Mold, Flintshire, North Wales.— Bow- street, May 1. Stolen between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 24th instant, by housebreaking, from Newchapel Godstone : a black frock Coat; two black Vests ; a brown Coat; a dark mixture ditto, with pockets at sides ; a Vest of the same material; a pair of dark Trousers; a pair of man's new side- spring Boots; a small brown silk Umbrella; a bLck Shawl, embroidered with coloured silk ; a large Telescope, with day and night on it; and a pen Knife, with white handle. A man about 5 feet 8 inches high, dressed in a grey coat, having the appearance of a tramp, was seen about 3 p. m. entering the back yard of the house. Information to be given to Superintendent Murtell, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone.— Bow- st., April 26. During the night of the 19th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Edward Harrison, on the Hemelhempstead- road, Watford, was broken into and stolen therein : one salt Spoon, marked ' H' in old English ; one mustard Spoon, with ' IF in old English ; one tea- caddy Spoon ; two silver Castor Tops ; a gold Pencil- case, marked ' Mordant'; a pair of silver Sugar- tongs, marked ' G. S. H.' in italic ; one green felt hat, Parisian make ; and one pair of gentleman's Shoes, elastic springs at sides.— Information to be given to Superintendant Isgate, Watford, Herts .- Bow- street, April 24. Stolen from a dwelling- house of a gentleman in Bedford- road, Tranmere, Cheshire, by means of skeleton keys, between 6' 20 and 8 p. m. on the 21st instant: a gold Geneva Watch, No. 4757, ' J. Barlow' engraved on case; a lady's old- fashioned gold Guard, long and short flowered links ; a pair of small round gold Ear- rings, with ruby or garnet centres ; and about £ 2 10s. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Police Office, Birkenhead.— Bow- street, April 24. About 4 a. m. on the 22nd instant, a dwelling- house and shop in Bolton were broken and entered by a number of men, one of whom violently assaulted the mistress of the house ; he had on a green and black plaid shawl ( supposed stolen from the shop), thrown over his shoulders to hide his dress; some pies, oranges, & c., were eaten by the men. One of the men is from 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, grey whiskers, no moustache, broad face, full features, sore eyes, lower eyelids slightly hanging down, showing the inner portion of the lids, which are very much swollen below the eye, and watery, slenderly made, of good address, and seemed to be well educated ; dressed in dark coat and vest, drab moleskin, cord, or light cloth trousers, and old black silk hat; supposed to be a man who calls upon confectioners, selling recipes for ginger- beer and cordials, and who is usually dressed in cord clothing. The other two men seemed to be young, not so tall, and dressed in light clothing, and caps or billycock hats. £ 2 reward will be paid for the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 24. About 2 sum. on the 20th instant, Stone Lodge, in the parish of Lower Beeding, Sussex, was broken into, and stolen therein : a black cloth Coat, with pockets outside on hips, and one inside breast pocket, trimmed with braid ; a pair of brown tweed Trousers, nearly new, very large size round the waist. Supposed by a tramp, a young man, short; dressed in dark dirty clothes. Making his way into Kent or East Sussex. Information to be given to Superintendent Blake, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- street, April 22. Between 11 p. m. on the 18th and 6 a. m. on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Parkes, ironmonger and grocer, Market- square, Shiffnal, Salop, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : a square tin Cashbox, about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide, brized at each corner to fasten down the lid, and contained 17s. or 18s. in Silver and Copper; also a common Brooch, gilt, which can be identified. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Barrett, Shiffnal, Salop.— Bow- street, April 22. The house of Mr. Frederick Collins, situate in Nursery- lane, Harborne, in the county of Stafford, was broken into on the ( night of the 15th instant, and the following property stolen therein : a Timepiece in ebony and walnut case, small silver plate in front with the words ' Presented to Elizabeth Rose,' engraved thereon ; a lady's Workbox, mahogany and oak, with oak star inlaid on top ; a large Bible, bound in dark blue morocco; a dark blue ribbed cloth Jacket; and six plated Tea Spoons. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Woollaston, West Bromwich, or to Sergeant Walton, Police Station, Harborne, Staffordshire.— Boie- strcet, April 22. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found in Dromenagh Park, Iver Heath, on the 18th instant, and supposed to nave been stolen : a cream- coloured 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. May 24. mare Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, white mark down face, silver mane and tail, recently clipped, branded with the letter ' E.' 011 near side, aud in good condition. Information to be given to Inspector Sntton, Bucks Constabulary, Iver.— — Bow- street, April 29. Further information respecting MATTHEW WARD, charged with stealing a Cow from Burton- in- the- Wolds, in the county of Leicester, on the night of the ICth instant, tne property of John Giles, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 22nd instant: he is a native of Costock, Nottingham- shire, and is 24 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, blue eyes, squints, light hair, no whiskers, fresh complexion, and turns his feet out very much when walking; dressed in oord or fustian jacket and trousers, smeared over with clay. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hague, Police Station, Loughborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, April 29. Description of JOSEPH GURNEY, charged ( with others, since convicted), with stealing, on the 31st ultimo, a fat wether Sheep, the property of Mr. John Clave, farmer, Chesham : about 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 iuches high, dark complexion, brown whiskers meeting under the chin, his right leg bends inwards, having been broken ; dressed it long brown tweed coat with large pockets, white slop under- neath, cord trousers, and black billycock hat, and generally carries a basket; he is a native of Wigginton, Herts, and is well known in the counties of Beds and Northampton. In- formation to be given to Inspector Moore, Chesham, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen from a held at Tedsmere, in the parish of West Eelton, supposed on the night of the 17th instant: an ewe Sheep, marked ' B.' in a circle on side with pitch, which is nearly worn off, the property of Mr. John Rogers, fsrmer. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, April 2t'. Stolen from Coton, near Guilsborough, on the 19th inst., the property of Mr. John Adams : a bay cart Mare, 3 years old, 15 hands high ; and a dark bay cart Mare, 4 years old, 14i hands high, both well made, rather rough, and in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Bailie, Weedon, or to Inspector Williamson, County Police Station, Northampton.— Bvw- street, April 24. Stolen during the night of the lGth instant : a roan- coloured milch Cow ( which has since been recovered) in the parish of Burton- on- the- Wolds, in the county of Leicester, the property of John Giles, and a warrant is issued for the apprehension of MATTHEW WARD, 24 years of age, 5 feet high, middle make, no whiskers, old fashioned face, a native of Costock, in the county of Nottingham ; dressed iu cord or fustian jacket and trousers, smeared all over with clay, having worked in brickyards. Information to be given to Superintendent Hague, Police Station, Loughborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, April 22. Stolen from a Held at Cound, Salop, on the night of the 17th instant, the property of Mr. Henry Instone, farmer : a fat yearling Sheep, marked on side with the letters ' H. I.' Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Constabulary, Shrewsbury, or Sergeant Thomas, Police station. Much Wenlock, Salop.— Bow- street, April 22. LAS. GENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 25th ultimo, from No. 10, Pickup- street, Blackburn : a blue rough Overcoat, black cloth buttons, lined with black glazed calico, pockets outside behind, ticket pocket on right side, much worn ; a black cloth shooting Coat, blacK cloth buttons, lined with black serge, two cross pockets out- side, and two pockets inside of left brt\ ist, one above the other ; and a pair of woman's new elastic- side bootsr black bottoms, plain leather fronts ; the property of Mr. Robert Lonsdale. By a nlan who lodged iu the house one night, and stated that he was a coach builder : 21 to 24 years of age, 5 feet 2 to 5 inches high, very fresh complexion, especially on nose and neck, no whiskers or moustache, light brown or sandy hair, proportionate make; dressed in dark blue reefer jacket, silk facings, black and white plaid vest, black cloth trousers, light plaid cap, Wellington boots, iiiul had a white apron round his body ; carried a joiner's new Bass, which he uses for carrying the stolen property, supposed to speak the Lan- cashire dialect, aud is of good address. Ou the 19th ultimo he committed a similar robbery at Oldham, ou the 26th lie stole a Vest at Church Parish, aud on the 27th he committed a robbery at Heywood ; when lie was iraced from Blackburn, via Church Parish, Accrington, Padiham, and to Bury, he was wearing the stolen topcoat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 1. Absconded from Eastbourne, on the 20th ultiimo, charged with embezzling the sum of 8s. lid., the money of his master: THOMAS CORNEY, a journeyman baker, 32 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair and whiskers, medium figure, and is well known at Southsea and Portsmouth ; dressed iu a light tweed suit, aud light soft felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, or to the Sergeant on Duty, East Sussex Constabulary, Eastbourne, who holds a warrant for bis apprehension.— Bow- street, Mai/ 1. Description of CHAS. NORFOLK, alias STOCKINGS, a cattle drover, charged on a. warrant, being the bailee of ,£( i 10s., the property of Mr. William Annkin, of Sutton Underwhitestone Cliff, did fraudulently convert the same to his own use, thereby stealing the same : about 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, cut short, no whiskers, broad fat face, fresh complexion ; dressed in a long light coat, cord trousers, high- crowned white soft billycock hat; well known by cattle dealers at Ipswich, Norfolk, aud other towns in the south of England. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, Constabulary Office, Northallerton, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 1. Description of GEORGE SHEARN, a watchmaker, who absconded from Lydney, Gloucestershire, on the 11th instant, charged with stealing a Watch : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 iuches high, fair complexion, bushy whiskers and moustache ( rather light), shaves under the chin, stoops when walking, has a quick step and a weak voice ; generally dresses in a dark tweed suit with black stripes down the trousers, wears a billycock hat, spring side shoes, carries a small black bag, and frequents low beer and public- houses. Information to be given to Superintendent Chipp, Coleford, or to Ser- geant Swatten, Lydney, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, April 29. Description of HENRY CHAMBERS, charged on a warrant with embezzling the money of his master, Henry Baker, at Brighton : he is a milkman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, full round face, light brown hair, a few light whiskers on chin, walks very badly being weak iu the knees and ankles, and turns his feet out very roach. Information to be given to Chief Constaule White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 29. A warrant has been issued at Tunbridge Wells for the apprehension of WALTER HAMMOND, who is charged with having ( being treasurer of Court ' Prince of Wales' of the Ancient Order of Foresters, held at the above place, aud who had in his possession £ 94 in Money and the Books and Papers of the said Court) unlawfully withheld the same and absconded on the 17th instant : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, dark hair, brown whiskers, blue eyes, fresh complexion, aud flushed cheeks ; he is a bricklayer. Information to be given at the Police Office, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, where the warrant is lying.— How- street, April 26. Description of a man for whose apprehension a warrant is issued on a charge of embezzlement: JAMES ESKDALE, a butcher, bom at Annan, Scotland, 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresh complexion, rather stout make, oval face, aud light brown hair; dressed iu billycock hat, grey tweed dress coat, vest, and trousers, and shoes ; has several cut marks on his hands. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 26. Absconded from Downton, charged with embezzlement: CHARLES QUINTON, formerly dairyman to the Right Honorable Earl Nelson, of Trafalgar : he is about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, very little whiskers, aud clean shaved underneath the chin ; he has a brother in the Isle of Wight, and another in America, and it is supposed he will endeavour to make for America. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Wolfe, Fisherton, Salisbury, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 26. Description of W. H. J.
