Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may bo made and addressed to MB. C. * » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably neceBsary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insortion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot bo published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Charged oil a warrant with forging and uttering a banker's cheque and order for the payment of £ 87 10s. CHARLES T. DORRETT, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender figure, sallow complexion, high bone on bridge of nose from an injury, brown hair, slight whiskers and moustache, walks stiffly with one leg ; dressed respectably, and is very fond of playing at billiards. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 20, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, April 1. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person in Brighton, during the last few da} » : A gold hunter Watch, maker Frodsham, crack across seconds baud, with a gold Chain attached, long links, having on it a Mordan's gold Pencilcase and a small Compass. Au old- fashioned gold Watch, No. believed to be 1120, Judgment of Solomon engraved on back, with a lady's gold Chain attached. £ 10 reward will be paid on recovery of the property and conviction of the offender or offenders. A gold open- face Geneva Watch, a gold link pattern Chain with Key attached; the key has a white stone on one side, and a black stone with a white mark across on the other side. A silver lever Watch, with gold figures., the name of the owner,' Charles Gumbrell,' engraved inside, No. 7313. A gold lever Watch, enamelled face, with a snake- pattern Albert Chain attached, and two Seals, engraved with a beech tree. £ 10 reward will be paid on recovery of the property and convictiou of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the persons of gentlemen at the Steeplechase at Thurnham, on the 4th instant : A valuable gold lever Watch, gold dial, No. 103, broken off at swivel. A gold compensation balance lever Watch, maker James Morley, Waterford. £ 5 reward on recovery. Information to be given to Superintendent Ovenden, Kent County Constabulary, Maidstone.— Bow- street, A} tril 8. Stolen from the person on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th instant, on the Race Common, Warwick : A silver lever Watch, No. 2111. A silver Watch, ' C. Orton' engraved on the cases, maker Cleavey, Coventry. A small old- fashioned gold Watch, ' G. I. H.' engraved on outside cases. A gold scarf pin, round flat head, about the size of a fourpenny piece, with a diamond in the centre. A good reward will be paid in each case on the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bov- strcel, April 8. Stolen from the person on the night of the 28th ultimo : a lady's gold English lever Watch, No. 4301, with flowered back, and bow broken. £ 2 reward will bo paid for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the watch, on application at the City Police Station, Worcester.— Bow- st., April 1. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 10 a. m. and 1- noon on the U! th instant, a cottage in the occupation of Eliza Hillier, situate in Manton lane, near Marlborough, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : two rough black cloth Topcoats, one with velvet collar, violet lining, the other lined with plaid ; two pairs of grey Trousers, lined, a pair of Braces attached to each, one pair elastic, the other white ; two round black cloth Jackets, pockets outside, whole backs, men's size ; a grey Jacket, open behind ; two grey Waistcoats ; a round- topped hard black Hat, with ' Glover and Son, Marlborough,' inside; a pair of men's light lace- up Boots, tipped and nailed ; a pair of new heavy watertight Boots, tipped and nailed, and double tongues; a German silver double- cased Watch ; a coarse Sheet; a white calico Shirt; a pair of woman's lace- up Boots, toe- capped ; and Is. 6d. in Silver. By a tramp, who changed his clothing, and left them in a copse near the house; he is now wearing a complete suit of the stolen clothes, and was seen making his way towards Hungerford and Newbury. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretten, Wilts Constabulary, Marlborough.— Bow- street, April 12. On the afternoon of the 7th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Richard Bennett, of Tylottin, Trefiglwys, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : £ 10 in Gold, Is. in Silver, and 5d. in Copper; a Penknife with one blade and white haft; two small box Keys, one a little bent; 1 lb. of Sugar, and a of Butter. Supposed by a tramp who was seen in the neighbourhood, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair and whiskers; dressed in a dirty white slop, cord trousers, and jimcrow hat, speaks Welsh and English. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Sergeant Owen, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 10. On the 7th instant, the waiting room and booking office at the London and North Western Railway Station, in the borough of Bolton, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein, which was made up in two small parcels : two gold hunting Watches, Nos. 52829 and 52802 ; four silver lever Watches, ' Samuel Brooks,' on the plate in- side, Nos. 33593, 33502, 14915, and 1807. The robbery is supposed to have been effected by a man, who has committed similar offences at three or four stations along the line, and always on a Sunday, when all was quiet : he is about 25 yi s, of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 i; ches high, either light or brown hair, and no whiskers; dressed in a dark coat, with round laps, bedford or cotton cord trousers, which seemed to have been washed and worn a little, striped neckscarf, and soft or hard billycock hat. He attempted to commit a robbery at Ordsall Lane Station, Manchester, on the morning of the same day, but was disturbed, and is supposed to have come to Bolton by the 2' 10 p. m. train. £ 6 reward will be paid for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton.— Bow- street, April 10. A dwelling- house in Oldham, was entered between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 7th instant, and the following property stolen therein : a lady's gold Ring, set with seven diamonds in a row, the end ones are smaller than the others ; a lady's gsld Ring, set with four opal stones; a lady's gold Ring, with cameo figure ( a female), and set with pearls, was made in Geneva ; a gentleman's gold Ring, with onyx stone, ' J. W.' engraved thereon; a gold Seal, with red stone, ' R. W.' engraved thereon ; a gold enamelled Brooch, set with four pearls ; a pair of Ear- rings to match, each set with four pearls, and small drops attached ; a pair of plain gold Ear- rings, without drops ; a gilt Necklet Chain, with cameo attached, imitation a female's head ; an old verge Watch, with brass cases ; a £ 10 Bank of England Note ; and three Sovereigns. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Oldham.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen on the 2nd instant, by housebreaking, from 23, Moore Park- road, Fulham : a gold Brooch, filigree pattern, cluster of turquoise in centre, in morocco case ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, set with garnets ; a gold Ring, with topaz stone ; a small round gold Locket, with miniature of a gentleman ; a beaded Purse, gold drops at ends; a marriage Certificate, in the names of Novey and Eels ; a magistrate's Protection Order; and six Envelopes, with Mr. J. Ellison, printed on outside.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, April 8. About 9 p. m. on the 1st instant, the dwelling- house of William Davis, Esq., South- street, Smethwick, was entered, and the following property, from a cash- box, stolen therein : £ 49 in Gold ; £ 100 in £ 5 Bank of England Notes, Nos. 89495, 15757, 15758, 15759, 15760, 15761, 15762, 15763, 15764, 15765, 15766, 15452, 19260, 19259, 19257, 19258, 76135, 04805, 73533, and 07369, and each stamped in an oval form, ' Chance, Brothers, and Co., Glass Works, nr. Birming- ham ;' and a check for £ 14 9s. 6d., on the Midland Bank, which has been stopped. Information to be given to Inspector Ordish, Staffordshire Constabulary, Smethwick, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, April 3. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of a man charged with stealing from a stable at the Angel Inn, New Malton, on the 3rd instant: a black cart Horse, recovered, the property of Jonathan Hickes, of Stockton- on- Tees : he is a groom, a native of Lincolnshire, supposed Great Grimsby, 30 to 36 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, sunfreckled complexion, long thin face, narrow chin, prominent front teeth, with bad utterance, light hair, ginger tuft of hair on end of chin, slender figure ; dressed in a grey mixture shooting coat, white muffler, light- coloured trousers, imitation sealskin or Lairey cap, patent leather leggings, and new strong shooting boots ; he frequents large horse sales, and is likely to be found in company of low horse dealers; was traced to York, where he left the horse at an inn on the night of the 3rd instant, and absconded next morning, he is supposed to have gone into the West Riding or Lincolnshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Metcalfe, Constabulary Office, Malton, York.— Bow- street, April 12. Stolen during the night of the 1st instant, from a shed at Heath End, Farnham, the property of George Morris : a large light brown gelding Donkey, very old, long coat, and the hair rubbed off both shoulders. Information to be given to Super- intendent Newland, Surrey Constabulary, Farnham.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen from the stable of Mrs. Greves, Feather- bed- lane, King's heath, on the night of the 8th or early on the morning of the 9th instant, a brown Horse, rising 3 years old, hind fetlocks white, and a blemish on the near fore fetlock. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive 7 Guineas reward, on application to the Superintendent of Police, King's Heath, Birmingham.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen during the night of the 1st instant, from Ower, near Romsey : a bay Mare, 6 years old, about 14 hands high, in good condition, white stripe down the face, extending to the nostrils, thick mane and tail, squared at the hocks ; a spring market Can, body painted blue, and wheels red, shaft broken near the step; also a set of light Harness, brass mounted pad ; the horse and cart were traced in the direction of London. Information to be given to Superintendent Kelleway, Hants Constabulary, Romsey.— Bow- st., April 5. The Horses advertised in the Police Gazette of the 1st instant as stolen from Dunstable, have been recovered, and two men have been committed for t>: .1 at the next Surrey Quarter Sessions, charged with stealing the same : one gives the name of THOMAS SMITH, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, and brown hair ; dressed in a light brown cloth coat and vest, brown trousers with light stripes, and black billycock hat; supposed to be known at Ware, Herts ; and the other gives the name of THOMAS GOLTY, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, and fair complexion ; dressed in a drab jacket and trousers, and black billycock hat. Another man is charged with being concerned in the offence, and has yet to be appre- hended : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, black curly hair, stoutly built, and hoarse voice ; dressed in moleskin jacket, tight- fitted corduroy trousers, grey rabbit- skin cap, and new coloured silk neckerchief. These three men have been travelling about the country with a van, in which they sleep ; they were seen together on the 30th ultimo. Information to be given to Head Constable George, Dunstable, Beds.— Boic- st., April 5. Stolen during the night of the 30th ultimo, from a stable at Dunstable, the property of Joseph Osborn, Esq. : a black half- bred Horse, aged, 14 hands high, small star on forehead, long mane and tail, one white heel, and in fair condition ; and a dark brown half- bred Horse, aged, 16 hands high, star on forehead, near eye blind, hair chafed off the near side, small white saddle mark on the near side, two white heels, and in good condition. The horses were traced in the direction of London, and are supposed to have been stolen by two men who travel with a van : one about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, slight figure ; dressed in dealer's moleskin jacket, open behind, drab corduroy trousers, black billycock hat, dirty white scarf with dark spots : the other about 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, black curly hair, stoutly built, hoarse voice; dressed in brown jacket, tight- fitting corduroy trousers, dark rough cap with peak, and new coloured silk neckerchief. Information to be given to Head Constable George, Dun- stable, Beds.— Bow- street, April 1. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Wanted, charged at Cockermouth ( with two others in custody) with stealing two sacks of Seed Oats, recovered: JAMES NICHOLSON, a labourer, and a native of Cocker- mouth, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, grey eyes, dark liair, black bushy whiskers, meeting under chin, stout figure, last resided at Cockermouth, and is single ; dressed in dark cloth slop jacket and vest, cotton cord trousers, black billycock hat, and strong laced boots. He may seek employment upon some railway in course of con- struction. Information to be given to Superintendent Spencer, Cockermouth, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, April 12. Charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 200 : FREDK- BAXTER, late of No. 5, Ashchurch- villas, Shepherds- bush, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair and moustache, smart sporting appearance, and lie is a shipping clerk ; wears a broad- brimmed hat, very much turned up at sides. Description of JAMES WHITSON, a collier, who absconded from Bryela on the 29th ultimo, charged with stealing a Watch ( since recovered) : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 iuches high, proportionate build, pale complexion, brown hair and whiskers, clean shaved about the chin, looks downcast and unwell; it is believed he is in Staffordshire working as a collier. Absconded on the 2Cth ultimo, from No. 7, Little Russell- street, Bloomsbury, stealing one lady's gold guard Chain ; one pair of chased double Eye- glasses ; one Cashmere Shawl ; and a large damask Table- cloth, marked' Scott,' in redeotton: ELIZABETH BOOT, alias WHATELEY, a Licence Holder, register No. 607, 36 years of age, 5 feet Si inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, pierced ears, sears ot\ forehead, second finger of left hand crooked, cut inside left thumb, front teeth deficient; dressed as a servant. Has a brother a pearl button maker, residing at Tower- street., Birmingham, to whom she is likely to go.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 10. Absconded from Wolverhampton, on the 2nd instant, charged with embezzling several sums of money : DAVID EVANS, a native of Woodend, lately in the employ of Mr. Reuben Turner, brewer, Market- street, as travelling agent: he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, black hair, small moustache, and of active appear- ance. Information to be given to Chief Constable Segrave, Town Hall, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Brno- street, April 10. Stolen from a dwelling- house ih Middlesborough, on the morning of the 6th instant : a dark grey tweed shooting Coat, two pockets outside of laps, dark horn buttons, and trimmed with dark lining ; a single- breasted ditto Vest, with slate coloured lining and dark horn buttons ; a pair of ditto Trousers, with fly front; all quite new. By EDWARD WILLIAMS, a lodger, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, light hair, and small light moustache ; he is a puddler ; dressed in moleskin trousers and veut, old dark pilot cloth coat, and velvet cap. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough- on- Tees.— Bow- street, April 8. Absconded from Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire: FRANCIS CHORLEY, a commercial traveller, of 3, Regent- street, Gloucester, charged with stealing on the 25th ultimo, a quantity of Hardware and Cutlery, the property of Mr. Thomas London, general factor, of Gloucester, which goods he had sent by rail to Stow- ou- the- Wold, Charlbury, and Chipping Norton ; at the latter place he. sold a large portion of the goods by auction, took the remainder to Ban- bury, left them with an auctioneer to be sold, drawing £ 2, and decamped on the 30th ultimo with the Money : he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, stout made, thick neck, fair complexion, dark sandy hair and moustache, and a small bit of sandy hair on chin ; dressed iu a high- crowned broad- brimmed silk hat, dark coat, " With pockets at side, dark trousers and vest ; he is well known in Tewkesbury, but a native of Exeter. £' 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information that will lead to his apprehension and conviction. Information to be given to the Police at Gloucester, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension ; or to the Chief of Police at Chipping Norton, or Banbury.— Bow- street, April 8. HENRY KNOWLES, who absconded from Leititwar- dine, Herefordshire, charged with embezzlement ( as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 22nd ultimo), has been committed for 21 days to the County Gaol at Hereford : he is 39 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fair but rather swarthy complexion, brown hair, rather sandy whiskers and moustache, has a scar about an inch long on the right temple, and has an impediment in his speech ; he came into the service of his late employers in September last. Information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster, or to Sergeant Bound, Police Station, Wigmore, Hereford- shire.- Bow- street, April 5. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: EDWARD WILLSON, of Stuart's- terrace, New Southgate, late a clerk in the advertising office of the ' Daily Telegraph,' 33 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, rather slim, walks sprightly, dark and rather curly hair, dark bushy whiskers and moustache, bad teeth, dimpled chin, and speaks sharply ; he resided for some time prior to the spring of last year in the neighbourhood of Hoxton, and was last seen at the South- gate Station of the Great Northern Railway on. the morning of the 14th ultimo. £ 20 reward. Absconded from Bideford on the 31st ultimo, ehirged with stealing a lead Pump ( since recovered) : WILLIAM ALFRED DENNIS, a labourer, about 19 years of age, about 5 feet high, dark brown hair, small eyes, with small sunburnt face; dressed in dark cloth dirty clothes, lace- up boots, and an old black billycock hat. A man of the following description is charged with stealing a quantity of \\ earing Apparel, from a dwelling- house at Eynsford, Kent, ( recovered) : he is 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, small sandy moustache, whiskers shaved off, scars on neck under right ear, caused through abscess ; dressed in dark monkey jacket, white ditto or slop underneath, dark cord trousers, and. black or blue cloth cap, with peak and strap, with brass button oil each side, with anchor.
