The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. - JffL- INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AID LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from' the person at the Railway Station, Welwyn, Herts, on the 15th instant, a gold hunting Watch, maker Hutton, Mark- lane, No. 12051 or 13051. Information to be given to Inspector Williams, King's Cross Station, Great Northern Railway, London. - Bow- street, March 20. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 9 p. m. 16th and 1 a. m. on the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Joseph Brooks, situate in Bowater- street, West Bromwich, was entered, and the following pro- perty stolen therein : four boy's round black cloth Jackets, with twill linings and cloth buttons; a man's black cloth Jacket, lined with white flannel and cloth buttons ; a black scarf Shawl; and an old- fashioned cashmere Shawl, green on one side and black on the other, with green and black fringe round the edges. Supposed by three men of the following description : one about 29 years of age, rather tall, large nose, long features, and has a moustache, which is supposed to be false; dressed in dark cloth coat, cord trousers, patched on the knees, and cloth cap, with peak. The others are from 18 to 20 years of age ; dressed in old shabby clothes, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Woollaston, Staffordshire Constabulary, West Bromwich. Bow- street, March 20. Stolen by means of housebreaking from a house at Old Trafford, between 7- 30 p. m and 8' 30 a. m. on the 16th instant: a gold mounted Bracelet, set with carbunclss ; a lady's gold Ring, set with two opals and two diamonds ; a lady's small gold Ring, set with carbuncles ; and • two Australian Sovereigns. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property^ Information to be given at the nearest Police Station, or to Superintendent Bent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, March 20. Stolen by means of housebreaking, during the afternoon of the 14th instant, the property of Mr. William Davies, of Brithdir- coch, Llanfihangel: an old jean Purse, containing 10s. in Half- crown Pieces, a white Pencil- case, with a Pen- ' knife in one end, and a pen and pencil in the other ; a small . p- air of Scissors; and a Comb, about eight inches long. Supposed by a tramp, from 30 to 4 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, rather slender make, dark hair and whiskers, meeting under the chin, and wore a white slop over his clothes. Information to be given to P. C. Williams, Llanfyllin Oswestry, or to Superintendent Strefford, Welshpool, Mont gomeryshire.— Bow- street, March 18. During the night - of the 15th instant, a drapers' shop in Middlesborough, was broken and entered, and about £ 11 in Gold, and from £ 3 to J4 in Silver and Copper stolen therein, Information to be given to . Chief Constable Saggerson Middlesborougb- on- Tees.— Bow- Vreet, March, 18. Between 11- 30 a. m. and 7 p. m. on the 27th of July last, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Edward Arthur, of No. 62 Duke's Brow, Blackburn, was broken and entered, and a quantity of Jewellery stolen therein, for description of Pro- perty see English Police Gazette, 22nd Decembei, 1871. Five men are charged with committing the offence, three of whom, RICHARD JENKINS, THOMAS MURPHY, and JEREMIAH DYNAN, have been arrested, and are awaiting trial. Description of the men not in custody, and for whose apprehension warrants have been issued : JOHN TURNER, from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches hioh slender made, thin face, sandy whiskers, brown hair, long nose, has a long blue cut mark on face, from near the mouth backward; dressed in a black suit, cloth cap, with French peak, and sometimes wears a dark billycock hat; he is a native of Birmingham, and supposed to be in gaol for robbery. And COCKNEY, from 20 to 22 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, proportionate make, round face and pimpled, large cut mark on face from near the mouth back- wards, one over right eye, no whiskers, light brown hair, and short nose ; dressed in plaid trousers, black coat, and black billycock hat. He is a native of London, and well known in Manchester and other places. They frequent every large town in England, Ireland, and Scotland. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in the parish of Berriew, betweeen 12 and 4 p. m. on the 11th instant : ablacl? cloth Coat, with black covered buttons, pockets outside ; and a pair of dark tweed Trousers, with black stripes down the legs, both new, and a check Shirt, with new wristbands, the property of Alexander Edwards. Supposed by a tramp. Information to be given to Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, or to Police Constable Sibbald, Berriew, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from a house in Salford, on the 4tb instant, by means of false keys : £ 2 in Gold ; some Silver and Copper ; a gold albert Guard, cable pattern, with gold Locket attached1 a lady's gold Geneva Watch, maker C. Robert, Geneve', No. 4125 ; a lady's long gold Guard, with gold Key and Pencil attached ; a lady's gold Neck- chain, with Locket, con- taining photograph of a gentleman attached ; three Links of Coral Beads ; a pair of lady's gold Bracelets, set with green and light- coloured stones; and a lady's imitation gold Bracelet. Information to be given to Chief Constable Torrens, Salford, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house of G. H. O. Kill, Hadlow Kent, by means of housebreaking, on the evening of the 9th inst. : a pair of fine calico Sheets, marked ' G. H. O. Kill/ in red cotton ; a flannel Petticoat, with flannel band ; a pair of woman's Drawers ; a pair of child's ditto ; a boy's Shirt and a Chimese, all nearly new ; and £ 3 9s. 6d. in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tunbridge, or to Sergeant Kill, Hadlow, Kent. Bow- street, March 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 11th instant, from the stable of Mrs. Price, near Ruabon, a black Horse, about 15 hands high, about 9 years old, has some white hair on nose, is very broad set, in good condition, some of the hair rubbed off the hips, and shod with middle- size shoes with tips ; it is named ' Boxer.' Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire. Bow- street, March 15. Stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from a stable at Putley Common, Hereford : a light bay cart Horse, aged, 16 hands high, two lumps on the near knee, two large hocks behind, the off one. larger than the near one, saddle- marked, in rather low condition, shoes turned up at heel and steeled at the toe, the property of Thomas Hoggett, Ledbury. In- formation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.- Bow- street, March 13. Stolen on the night of the 9th instant, from a marsh in the parish of Minster Sheppy : fifteen Kent Ewes, in lamb, marked ' J. D.' in pitch on near side. Supposed taken away a barge. Information to be given to Superintendent short Coat, turning a brown colour, two outside skirt pockets and one inside left breast, which has been torn and repaired, the property of William Scott, of Stoke Hammond, railway ganger. By a tramp, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high; dressed in a long dirty brown coat, tweed trousers, dark cap or billycock hat, he was traced from Stoke Ham- mond to Linslade or Leighton Buzzard about 9 a. m. on the 19th March, going in the direction of Linslade. Stolen during the night of the 29th ultimo, from Hurst- place, Old Baxley : three , plain Salt Cellars ; a large Cruet Stand, five cruets; a ditto, three cruets ; a Dessert Spoon, C. A.;' three antique Wine Lables, crest— a wheatsheaf ; four Table Forks, ' N.;' three Thimbles; all silver; six Fish Knives and Forks, ivory handles ; six Dessert Knives and Forks, mother- o'- pearl handles ; thirty Spoons, twelve Table, crest— a wheatsheaf, twelve small Salt, six Tea; a blue cloth Overcoat, inside breast pocket; a silk Umbrella ; twenty- eight Postage and Receipt Stamps ; £ 5 15s. in Gold and Silver; 12 lbs. of Tea; a gold Pencil- case, crest— a wheatsheaf; a plated Coffee Set, consisting of Coffee Pot, Cream Jug, and Sugar Basin, two handles, gilt inside, maker Mappin, crest— a wheatsheaf on each; a Pickle Spoon ; a large gold Coin, . James the I. or II.; a Spade Guinea ; a 7s. gold Piece ; a white metal Medal, Emperor Alexander of Russia ; a bronze Medal, opening of City of London School; a ditto, visit of Queen to the City of London ; a ditto, opening of the New London Bridge; and numerous early English and Roman Silver and Copper Coins, some in paper, with names and inscriptions tbereon. — Metropolitan Police, R Division, March 18. Stolen on the 21st ultimo, from 16, King's- terrace, Sand's End, Fulham : 8 pairs of Boots, one pair men's, five ladies', two children's ( new); 11 pairs of Uppers ; a red plaid woollen Shirt; and 7s. in Silver. By a man ( a lodger), 58 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in brown mixture overcoat, black melton undercoat, dark brown trousers, light plaid cap, and old sidespring boots; supposed to have gone to Brighton.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, March 18. THOMAS HORNSEY, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, charged at Whitby, with stealing horse Hair, has been apprehended and committed to Northallerton Gaol, for six weeks' hard labour. Information to be given to Superintendent Clarkson, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 18. Description of JOHN FELLOWS, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: 14 years of age, 4 feet 9 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, thin features, and light brown hair ; dressed when last seen in dark round jacket, corduroy trousers, black billycock hat, or a Scotch cap ; he is supposed to have gone into Staffordshire, to seek employment. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Norris, City Police Office, Coventry, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, March 18. Mayne, Police March 13. Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- Stolen from a field in Milton, near Weston- super- Mare, Somerset, on the night of the 4th inslant, the property of Mr. Richard Petheram : a dark bay cart Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, star on forehead, and a speck on each knee, scarcely visible ; suspicion is attached to a man who callec. and inquired whether the mare was for sale. He is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high ; dressed in a long blue jean coat, such as butchers wear, and bowler hat: he was seen in company with another man, of middle height, rather stout, dark complexion, and was dressed in a long open- breasted white slop, and bowler hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillbanks, Somerset Constabulary, Axbridge, — Bow- street, March 11. Stolen on or about the 25th ultimo from Manor Farm, Lambourne, Berks : three Pigs, about half grown, Berkshire breed, the property of Mr. James Tilby. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Neill, Wantage, or to Sergeant Harfield, Lambourne, Berks.— Bow- st'eet, Ma* ch 11. Stolen from a field in Eddisbury, during the night of the 3rd instant : two fat Sheep, marked with the letter ' S' on left side. Also stolen from a field in Tarvin, during the night of the 6tli instant: anin- lamb Ewe, of the Leicester breed, no marks on. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayho, Tarporley, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 11. Description of C. F. WERNER, a baker, 28 to 30 years of age, young looking, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair, black moustache, shaves, face marked with small pox, walks awk- ward, turns his toes out very much, said he was a pensioner, and formerly in the 17th Lancers; he is charged with embezzling several sums of money amounting to the sum of £ 1 6s. 9d., on the 3rd ultimo, at Willenhall, in the parish of Wolverhampton, he being the servant of Thomas Holland and Company. Information to be given to Inspector Gasson, Constabulary Office, Willenhall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, who holds a warraut for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Walter Kaye, of Netherton, between 11 p. m. on the 9th and 1' 30 p. m. on the 10th instant: a new silver lever Watch, has ' A. Hoyle, maker, Huddersfield,' engraved inside, had attached a gold- plated Guard with Key ; and a silver Geneva Watch, with ' Hannah Kaye' engraved on inside case, had attached a small gold- plated Guard. By a labourer, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers on each side of face; dressea in a black cloth round jacket, light coloured cloth vest and trousers, hard black billycock hat, elastic- side boots, and blue necktie. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield.— Bow- street, March 15. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a railway but, in the parish of Stoks Hammond, during the night of the 18th instant • a black Description of JOSEPH HENLY, who absconded on the 27th ultimo, charged with embezzling several sums of Money, belonging to the Co- operative Society, Barrow- in- Furness, where he had been employed : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, ruddy complexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, lovv forehead, bushy eyebrows, broad upper lip, and has lost several front teeth ; dressed in a suit of dark mixture clothes, and black soft billycock hat; he is a shoemaker, and a native of Bilston, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Holden, Lancashire Constabulary, Ulverston, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Uovi- street, March 15. Absconded from Buckingham on the 7th instant, JOHN BYLES, a tramping sweep, charged with stealing as a bailee, a chimney sweeping Machine, consisting of head, scraper, and twelve rods, filed marks on ferrules, two on the he's, and one on the she's ; one hand Brush ; and a cord Jacket, the pro- perty of George Smith, his master : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, well made, is supposed to have been in the army, says lie had worked at Oxford, and that he P O L10 E < G A Z E T T E. Absconded from Godalming, on the 9th instant, charged with stealing at Godalming, on the 10th ultimo, thirty- one Swede Turnips: THOMAS PEACOCK, a painter and glazier, of Petworth, Sussex, about 85 years of. age & feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, whiskers long and thick; dressed in dark clothes, and high black hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guild- ford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 15. Absconded from Redmarley d'Abitfit, charged, under the Bailee Act, with converting to his own use a. silver Watch, the property of John Newman, of that parish : JOHN BROWN, of that parish, about 38 years of age, _ 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers, a little sandy hair under chin, full eyes, and walks very erect ; dressed when last seen in shabby dark clothes and black felt hat with soft top and steel round brim ; he is in the habit of playing the violin in public- houses, and is addicted to drmk; is known in Gloucester, from which place he came to Redmarley a short time ago. The watch is an old- fashioned one, with bulls- eye glass, No. 2987. Information to be given to Super- intendent Cliecketts, County Police Office, Upton- on- Severn, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension — Bow- street, March 15. Charged with stealing on the 28th December last, £ 19 15s., the moneys of her master : a woman, 35 years of age, 5 feet high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, thin, quick in speech ; dressed in brown merino, trimmed with velvet, black cloth jacket, black bonnet, a native of Bath ; supposed accompanied by her husband, and to have gone to Gloucester- shire or Somersetshire.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, March 15. Stolen on the 11th instant, from a dwelling- house in Bungay : a silver Pencil- case; a small Pocket- knife, pearl handle; a set of plated Shirt Studs ; and Is. By a man who lodged in the house the two previous nights, he gave the name of EDWARD BENNETT, and said he was a cabinet- maker, about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, and no whiskers; dressed in a black coat, grey trousers, with dark stripe, and chummy hat; he has a peculiar look about the eyes, boasts of being a good swimmer, and says he has won two or three cups. He frequents low public and beer- houses. Information to be given to Inspector May, Suffolk Con- stabulary, Bungay.— Bow- street, March 15. Absconded on the 14th instant, from Sandwich, charged with stealing £ 14 10s. in Gold ; and a silver Geneva Watch, the property of Thomas Taylor : ELIZABETH HAMPTON, alias HUTCHINS, the wife of a horsedealer, living at South- ampton, 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, florid complexion, dark brown hair ; dressed in a black hat, with seal- skin in the border, magenta dress with flounces at bottom, jacket of the same material; she has a pedlar's certificate, granted at Ashford in January or February last, and carries a French basket, containing caps, and a small black box with je wellery. She has a relative living in Rose- street, Bristol. Information to be given to Head Constable Brothers, Sandwich, Kent, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- st., March 15. Description of JOHN HAMLEY, late shopman to Messrs. Emanuel and Son, of Southampton, outfitters, charged with stealing a considerable sum of Money : 46 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, round shoulders, leans forward when walking, and has large feet; dressed in long black cloth coat, dark mixture cloth trousers, Wellington boots, and silk hat, with large brim and turned up at the sides ; he was at Bath, on the 4th instant, and had a brown paper parcel with him. Information to be given to Head Constable Breary, Southampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 15. Charged on a Sheriff's warrant with embezzlement of J135, the property of the Caledonian Railway Company : TOM or THOMAS RITSON, cashier or clerk lately in the employment of the said Company; about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, small black whiskers and beard, no moustache ; and dresses gene- rally in a dark shooting coat and vest, and grey trousers. Supposed to belong to the neighbourhood of London. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Brown, Detective Department, Glasgow.— Bow- street, March 15. Absconded from Exeter charged with embezzlement : FREDERICK PICKTON, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin face, dark complexion, prominent nose, grey eyes, large dark brown whiskers, rather grey, of respect- able appearance, and collected in manner. Information to be given to Head Constable Street, Police Office, Exeter, Devon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. - Bow- street, March 15. Description of a man and womaD, charged with stealing wearing Apparel ( recovered) from a lodging- house at Holy- well, on the 26th ultimo : FRANCIS ROSE, 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair ( very bald), whiskers ( bushy), eyes, and complexion, round features, has lost one upper front tooth, and has a large wound mark on middle of. breast; dressed in black cloth cap, grey woollen comforter, white slop, and dark cotton cord trousers ; a native of Portsea ; and ANN DAVIES, alias MARY DAVIES, alias MARY ROSE, 40 years of age, but looks older, tall, dark brown curly hair, hazel eyes, dark complexion, high cheek bones, has lost one upper front tooth, and has a large cut mark on right side of neck; dressed in an old black velvet bonnet, old black crape shawl, and brown alpaca gown ; a native of Llandovery, Cardiganshire. They have with them four young children, three boys and a girl. The woman took out a Pedlar's Certificate, in the name of Ann Davies, for the county of Flint, dated 9th January last. The man sings in the streets, at fairs and markets, accompanied by the children. Information to be given to Inspector Hughes, Police Station, Holywell, Flintshire, who holds a warrant for their appre- sion.— Bow- street, March 15. Absconded from Dolgelly on the 6th instant, charged with embezzling several sums of money, the property of his employer Mr. W. Taylor, coal merchant: ISHMAEL LLOYD, about 55 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, rather* sandy whiskers, intermixed with grey, darker hair but greyish, peculiar countenance, especially about the eyes, eccentric manner, slouching walk, and used to labouring ; dressed at the time in new boots, black cloth trousers, dark blue pilot cloth coat, blue flannel shirt, and silk hat. Had. a . small bundle of clothes under his arm, and booked at Pen- ' maenpool, for Oswestry, per 5- 14 p. m. Cumbrian Train, making enquiries when he could proceed to Liverpool. Information to be given to Inspector Jones, Chief Constable's Office, Dolgelly, Merionethshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- : hension.— Itoiv- street, MMch 13. Was last seen to leave Shrewsbury by the 3 p. m. train q\ i the 11th instant, had then with them the stolen property. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salap, who holds a warrant, for their apprehension. — Bow- street, March 13. Absconded on the 6th instant, stealing J119 10s., a man 19 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, small moustache, no whiskers, boil marks on back of neck, smart appearance; dressed in blue cloth coat and vest, grey tweed trousers, black and gold scarf pm, high black hat; supposed to have gone to Aldershot or some other garrison town.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, March 11. Absconded on the 4th instant from the Railway Works at Goldicote, Worcestershire, a navvy, named JOSEPH TIMMS, alias LONG JOE, charged with poaching in Thornton Wood on the 3rd instant, and violently assaulting William Taylor, gamekeeper to Sir Charles Mordaunt, Bart. : Timms is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, black hair, hazel eyes, whiskers recently shaved off, high cheeu bones, tattooed on both arms— on the one a woman and a ship in full sail, on the other a navvy's shovel and butterfly ; also tattooed on the breast, and lost a finger. Supposed to be a native of Garsington, Oxfordshire, and served a term of imprisonment in the gaol of that county for manslaughter, which expired in August last. He will perhaps seek employ- ment on some railway in course of construction. Escaped from custody, near Wrexham, on the afternoon of the 2nd instant, a man named JOHN SMITH, alias JOHN WRIGHT, alias GEORGE MADDERS, alias JOHN RAWSON, alias RICHARD BARNES, committed to the next Mold Assizes, for stealing a Horse and Cart: he is 52 years of age, but looks about 40, 5 feet 2 inches high, grey eyes, nearly bald, the third linger of right hand has been crushed, scar on right cheek, under right eye, and on left cheekbone, whiskers shaved off, blue spot on right forearm, and several moles on back ; dressed in a short blue cloth coat, with a double row of large buttons, black bowler hat, striped trousers, with black overalls stitched to them at the top, black necktie, over which he wore a handkerchief with a white ground and a small brown spot, and sham- buttoned rivetted boots. Was convicted of burglary at the Chester Assizes, March, 1867, and sentenced to 12 calendar months ; at Altrincham, in 1870, of intent to commit felony, 3 calendar months; again in 1870, at Knutsford, as a rogue and vagabond, 1 calendar month; has also been convicted at Salford.
