Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to tho Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made, It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from tho Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 11- 30 a. m. and 7 p. m. on the 27th of July last, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Edward Arthur, of No! 02, Duke's Brow, Blackbuin, was broken and entered, and a quantity of Jewellery stolen therein, for description of Pro- perly see English Police Gazette, 22ud Decembei, 1871. Five men are charged with committing the offence, three of whom RICHARD JENKINS, THOMAS MURPHY, and JEREMIAH DYNAN, have been arrested, and are awaiting trial. Description of the men not in custody, and for whose apprehension warrants have been issued : JOHN TURNER, from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, slender made, thin face, sandy whiskers, brown hair, long nose, has a long blue cut mark on face, from near the mouth backward ; dressed in a black suit, cloth cap, with French peak, and sometimes wears a dark billycock hat; he is a native of Birmingham, and supposed to be in gaol for robbery. And COCKNEY, from 20 to 22 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, proportionate make, round face and pimpled, large cut mark on face from near the mouth back- wards, one over right eye, no whiskers, light brown hair, and short nose ; dressed iu plaid trousers, black coat, and black billycock hat. He is a native of London, and well known in Manchester and other places. They frequent every large town in England, Ireland, and Scotland. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 15. Stoieu by means of housebreaking, in the parish of Berriew, betweeen 12 aud 4 p. m.. on the 11th instaut : a black cloth Coat, with black covered buttons, pockets outside ; and a pair of dark tweed Trousers, with black stripes down the legs, both new, and a check Shirt, with new wristbands, the property of Alexander Edwards. Supposed by a tramp. Information to be giveu to Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, or to Police Constable Sibbald, Berriew, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from a house in Salford, on the 4th instant, by means of false keys : £ 2 in Gold ; some Silver and Copper ; a gold albert Guard, cable pattern, with gold Locket attached; a lady's gold Geneva Watch, maker C. Robert, Geneve, No. 4125 ; a lady's long gold Guard, with gold Key and Pencil attached ; a lady's gold Neck- chain, with Locket, con- taining photograph of a gentleman attached ; three Links of Coral Beads; a pair of lady's gold Bracelets, set with green and light- coloured stones; and a lady's imitation gold Bracelet. Information to be given to Chief Constable Torrens, Salford, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house of G. H. O. Kill, Hadlow, Kent, by means of housebreaking, on the evening of the 9th iust. : a pair of fine calico Sheets, marked ' G. H. O. Kill,' in red cotton ; a flannel Petticoat, with flannel band ; a pair of woman's Drawers ; a pair of child's ditto ; a boy's Shirt ; and a Chimese, all nearly new ; aud £ i 9s. 6d. in Gold and' Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tunbridge, or to Sergeant Kill, Hadlow, Kent. — Bow- street, March 13. Absconded on the morning of the 2nd instaut, charged with housebreaking : CHARLES ROBERT CUMMINGS, of Abingdon, 30 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, ginger hair and whiskers, grey eyes, of slender appearance, aud is a bad walker; dressed in low- crowued hat, dark jacket aud vest, dark grey trousers, with black stripe, shoes laced in front, and of very large size ; he is a gardener. THOMAS PROVOST, of Abingdon, 26 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout built, grey eyes, brown hair, sallow complexion, clean shaved, aud lie is a shoemaker ; dressed in a low- crowned round hat, dark coat, dark grey trousers, with black stripe, elastic- side boots, and supposed t< be wearing a brown siugle- breasted overcoat. He is well kmown at low public- houses, where shoe clubs are held, and also to secretaries of shoe clubs, & c. They were traced on the same day to Readiig, where they purchased new clothing. All reasonable exiences will be paid. Information to be given to Superinteident Rawlins, Borough Police, Abingdon, Berks, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow street, March 8. Stolen between 10 p. m. on the 6th and 7 um. on the 7th instant, from a dwelling- house at Tunbridge wells, by means of housebreaking : 32 Spoons— 7 Table, 6 Egg, 9 Dessert, 7 Tea, 1 Gravy, 2 Salt; all silver and have the initia's ' J. A. B.' on them. 1 silver Fish Knife, initials ' J. A. B. 9 ditto large Forks, ditto. 2 silver Decanter Stands. 2 silver Salt Spoons, marked ' Y.' 2 sUver Sugar Tongs. 1 gold Pencil- case, with amethyst and a Forget- me- not' on it. 1 plated Marrow Spoon 2 Gravy Ladles. 1 small plated Salver, and £ 2 in Money. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Embery Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, March 8. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 11th instant, from the stable of Mrs. Price, near Ruabon, a black Horse, about 15 hauds high, about 9 years old, has some white hair on nose, is very broad set, iu good condition, some of the hair rubbed off the hips, aud shod with middle- size shoes with tips ; it is named ' Boxer.' Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire. — Bow- street, March 15. Stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from a stable at Putley Common, Hereford : [ a light bay cart Horse, aged, 16 hands high, two lumps on the near knee, two large hocks behind, the off one larger than the near one, saddle- marked, in rather low condition, shoes turned up at heel and steeled at the toe, the property of Thomas Hoggett, Ledbury. In- formation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.- Bow- street, March 13. Stolen on the night of the 9th instant, from a marsh in the parish of Minster Sheppy : fifteen Kent Ewes, iu lamb, embezzling several sums of money amounting to the sum of £ 1 6s. 9d.; on the 3rd ultimo, at Willenhall, in the parish of Wolverhampton, he being the servant of Thomas Holland and Company. Information to be given to Inspector Gasson, Constabulary Office, Willenhall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from the dweliing- house of Walter Kaye, of Netherton, between 11 p. m. on the 9th and 1- 30 p. m. on the 10th instant: a new silver lever Watch, has ' A. Hoyle, maker, Huddersfield,' engraved inside, had attached a gold- plated Guard with Key ; and a silver Geneva Watch, with ' Hannah Kaye' engraved on inside case, had attached a small gold- plated Guard. By a labourer, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers on each side of face; dressea in a black cloth round jacket, light coloured cloth vest and trousers, hard black billycock hat, elastic- side boots, and blue necktie. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield.— Bow- street, March 15. Description of JOSEPH HENLY, who absconded on the 27th ultimo, charged with embezzling several sums of Money, belonging to the Co- operative Society, Barrow- in- Furness, where he had been employed : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, ruddy complexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, low forehead, bushy eyebrows, broad upper lip, and has lost several front teeth ; dressed in a suit of dark mixture clothes, and black soft billycock hat; he is a shoemaker, and a native of Bilston, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Holden, Lancashire Constabulary, Ulverston, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 15. Absconded from Buckingham on the 7th instant, JOHN BYLES, a tramping sweep, charged with stealing as a bailee, a chimney sweeping Machine, consisting of head, scraper, and twelve rods, filed marks on ferrules, two on the he's, and one on the she's ; one hand Brush ; and a cord Jacket, the pro- perty of George Smith, his master : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, well made, is supposed to have been in the army, says he had worked at Oxford, and that he belonged to Chipping Norton. He is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high ; dressed in a long blue jean coat, such as butchers wear, and bowler hat: he was seeu in company with another man, of middle height, rather stout, dark complexion, and was dressed in a long open- breasted white slop, and bowler hat. Stolen on or about the 25th ultimo from Manor Farm, Lambourne, Berks: three Pigs, about half grown, Berkshire breed, the property of Mr. James Tilby. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Neill, Wantage, or to Sergeant Harfield, Lambourne, Berks.— Bow- street, March 11. Stolen from a field in Eddisbury, during the night of the 3rd instant : two fat Sheep, marked with the letter ' S' on left side. Also stolen from a field in Tarvin, during the night of the 6th instant: an in- lamb Ewe, of the Leicester breed, no marks on. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Mayho, Tarporley, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 11. Stolen early on the morning of the 4th instant, from Cove: a light brown Mare, 7 years old, 14£ hands high, in good condition, white star on forehead, white spot on near side, and very dark legs ; also an old high spring Milk Cart, much worn, one wheel has fourteen spokes, the other only twelve, the near shaft has been broken and spliced; also a set of Harness, both rings on the pad broken, and no breeching, the collar recently mended at the pole ; the pro- perty of Mr. George Goddard. The horse aud cart were traced to Hounslow. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Troke, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, March 8. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of C. F. WERNER, a baker, 28 to 30 years of age, young looking, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches liigh, dark hair, black moustache, shaves, face marked with small pox, walks awk- ward, turns his toes out very much, said he was a pensioner, and formerly in the 17th Lancers; lie is charged with 28th December last, a woman, 35 years of Charged with stealing on the £ 19 15s., the moneys of her master: , „„ age, 5 feet high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, thin, quick in speech ; dressed in brown merino, trimmed with velvet, black cloth jacket, black bonnet, a native of Bath ; supposed accompanied by her husband, and to have gone to Gloucester- shire or Somersetshire.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, March 15. Stoieu on the 11th instant, from a dwelling- house in Bungay : a silver Pencil- case; a small Pocket- knife, pearl handle; a set of plated Shirt Studs ; and Is. By a man who lodged iu the house the two previous nights, he gave the name of EDWARD BENNETT, and said he was a cabinet- maker, about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, aud no whiskers ; dressed in a black coat, grey trousers, with dark stripe, aud chummy hat - r he has a peculiar look about the eyes, boasts of being a good swimmer, and says he has won two or three cups. He frequents low public and beer- houses. Information to be given to Inspector May, Suffolk Con- stabulary, Bungay.— Bow- street, March 15. Absconded on the 14th instant, from Sandwich, charged with stealing £ 14 10s. in Gold ; and a silver Geneva Watch, the property of Thomas Taylor : ELIZABETH HAMPTON, alias HUTCHINS, the wife of a horsedealer, living at South- ampton, 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, florid complexion, dark brown hair ; dressed iu a black hat, with seal- skin in the border, magenta dress with flounces at bottom, jacket of the same material; she has a pedlar's certificate, granted at Ashford in January or February last, aud carries a French basket, containing caps, and a small black box with jewellery. She has a relative living in Rose- street, Bristol. Description of a man and woman, charged with stealing wearing Apparel ( recovered) from a lodging- house at Holy- well, on the 2Gth ultimo : FRANCIS ROSE, 10 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair ( very bald), whiskers ( bushy), eyes, aud complexion, rouud features, has lost one upper front tooth, and has a large wound mark on middle of breast; dressed in black cloth cap, grey woollen comforter, white slop, aud dark cotton cord trousers ; a native of Portsea ; and ANN DAVIES, alias MARY DAVIES, alias MARY ROSE, 40 years of age, but looks older, tall, dark brown curly hair, hazel eyes, dark complexion, high cheek boues, has lost oue upper front tooth, aud has a large cut mark on right side of neck; dressed in an old black velvet bonnet, old black crape shawl, aud brown alpaca gown ; a native of Llandovery, Cardiganshire, They have with them four young children, three boys and a girl. The woman took out a Pedlar's Certificate, in the name of Aim Davies, for the county of Flint, dated 9th January last. The man sings in the streets, at fairs and markets, accompanied by the children. Information to be given to Inspector Hughes, Police Station, Holywell, Flintshire, who holds a warrant fqr their appre- sion.- Bow- street, March 15. Absconded from Dolgelly ou the 6th instant, charged with embezzling several sums of money, the property of his employer Mr. W. Taylor, coal merchant: 1SHMAEL LLOYD, about 55 years of ago, about 5 feet 9 iuches high, rather sandy whiskers, intermixed with grey, darker hair but greyish, peculiar countenance, especially about the eyes, eccentric mauuer, slouching walk, anil used to labouring ; dressed at the time in new boots, black cloth trousers, dark blue pilot cloth coat, blue flannel shirt, and silk hat. Had a small bundle of clothes under his aim, aud booked at Pen- maenpool, for Oswestry, per 5- 14 p. m. Cumbrian Train, making enquiries when he could proceed to Liverpool. Information to be given to Inspector Jones, Chief Constable's Office, Dolgelly, Merionethshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, March 13. Elopod from Newport, Salop, on the 9th instant, charged with stealing two black cloth Coats, one almost new, the other about half- worn, single breasted ; two Umbrellas ; and six table Covers, the property of Richard Haldearn: ROBERT RICHARDSON, currier, about 56 years of kge, 5 feet 6 iuches high, dark complexiou, hair turning grey, cut or scar on cheek bone, supposed the left, has lost one or more front teeth in lower jaw, stout build, has worked at most of curriers places in England: ELIZABETH HALDEARN, 28 years of age, 5 feet high, proportiouate build, dark hair and complexion, face freckled, smart appearance, of good education ; when last seen she wore a black bonnet, trimmed with light flowers. Was last seen to leave Shrewsbury by the 3 p. m. train on the lltli instant, had then with them the stolen property. Absconded on the 6th instant, stealing .£ 119 10s., a man 19 years of age, 5 feet 11 iuches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, small moustache, ao whiskers, boil marks on back of neck, smart appearance ; dressed in blue cloth coat and vest, grey tweed trousers, black aud gold scarf piu, high black hat; supposed to have gone to Aldershot or some other garrison towu.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, March 11. Wanted on a warrant for embezzling various sums of money, received on account of his employers : JOHN POVEY, a collector, 36' years of age, fair complexion, light brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in dark green overcoat, high black hat, has resided at No. 30, Croys- land- road, Chalk Farm- road.— Mctropolit. au Policet C Division, March 11. Description of CHARLES S. MACDONALD, charged with obtaining two Clarionetts aud two Cases, by false pretences, on the 2nd instant: he is a flute player, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, slight moustache, no whiskers, slightly pockpitted, bends his knees wlieu standing, and of Foreign and slouching appearance ; dressed in a dark overcoat, trimmed with fur. He is a Londoner, and generally employed in theatres, music halls, & c. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bm- street, March 8. Description of a man charged with stealing, from South Milford, on the night of the 1st instant, a silk Shawl ( green on one side, scarlet on the other, small fringe slightly torn near one side), and an old white Table Cloth : he is a labourer in malt kilns, 23 years of age, about- 5 feet high, light com- plexion, dark brown eyes and hair, stout build, and round face ; dressed in drab fustian trousers, white slop, cloth cap, and clogs. Although £ 3 reward is offered for the apprehension of Deserters at the time, £ 2 only is payable at the expiration of 3 months, and £ 1 only at the expiration of 6 months from the date of desertion, and after the expiration of a complete year, no reward will be paid, except under special circumstances. No reward will be given in these cases if apprehended within the precincts of a port where a regular Police is organized, but all reasonable expenses will be paid. NAME.
