Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tlie Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to HE. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as thoso from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found on the 16th instant, under a hedge near Chester, the dead body of a newly- born female child, wrapped in a piece of old puce and brown striped petticoat. At an inqnest held on the 19th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder'was returned against some person or persons unknown. Informa- tion to be given at the County Police Office, Foregate- street, Chester.— Bow- street, February 23. At l'lO a. m. on the 16th instant, James Hudson, over- looker, at Manningham, was murdered in Heaton- road, near the Corporation Reservoir, Manningham, Bradford, and there was stolen from his person a rurse containing about £ 3 in Money, a pair of cotton Gloves, and a pair of new narrow ribbed cotton cord Trousers, wi'li rule pocket made of drab twilled jean in the right side ; the trousers would lit a man about 5 feet 4 inches high. The murder is . supposed to have been committed by a tramp, as a very old pair of patched corduroy trousers, and deceased's gloves and empty purse were found in a brick kiln about 200 yards from where the murder was committed ; the old trousers left would probably fit a man 5 feet 2 inches high. Information to be given to Chief Constable Grauhan, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 21. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. A fire took place on the night of the 6th instant, in the stack- yard of Mr. Adam Gittins, of Little Ryton, in the parish of Condover, Shropshire, whereby a stack of Wheat and a stack of Oats were destroyed, and which is alleged was the malicious act of some person or persons. £ 50 reward will be paid to any person or persons who shall give such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Edgell, Shrewsbury ; or at the Salop Fire Office, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, February 19. Stolen between 11 p. m. the 17th, and 8 a. m. on the 18th instant, from the shop of Mr. Edmund John Hardman, jeweller, 64, Bull- street, Birmingham, by means of cutting the shutter : 22 bright gold albert Chains, various patterns. 7 bright gold guard Chains, various patterns. 3 bright gold Necklets. 132 ladies fancy Rings, various patterns. 57 bright gold signet Rings, various patterns. .£ 20 reward will be given to any person giving such informa- tion as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the whole of the property, or a reward in proportion to the amount recovered ; and £ 5 reward on conviction only. Stolen from a house at Eccles, between 6T5 p. m. and 8- 15 p. m., on the 18th instant, by housebreaking : twelve silver dessert Spoons; twelve silver dessert Forks ; twelve silver tea Spoons ; six silver table Spoons ; six silver Forks ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, all marked ' W. G. f a silver salt Spoon ; a twisted gold Brooch, set with imitation turquoise stones; a lady's gold Ring, set with six turquoise stones; and about 15s. in Money. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Between 11 p. m. on the 12th and 7' 15 a. m. on the 13th instant, , the dwelling- house of Messrs. L. and T. Baurle, jewellers, Chatham, was broken and entered and stolen therein : four old fashioned verge silver Watches ; one silver lever Watch, No. 504, seconds hands, face cracked, and cream- coloured dial; and two pairs of bright gold Ear- rings. Information to be given to Superintendent Merritt, Police Court, Chatham.— Bow- street, February 19. During the night of the 12th instant the dwelling- house of Stephen Stent, of Long Sutton, Hants, was burglariously broken into and stolen therefrom : an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, single case, No. 4344, name inside of inner case, ' Stephen Boy' ; and an imitation silver Guard attached, with Split Ring and Watch Key ; a grey Overcoat with . , ,, - - , , O 0 .^. Description of JOSEPH HIRST, oil merchant, Batley Carr, Dewsbury, Yorkshire, charged at Leeds, with forgery : he is 25 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow com- plexion, dark hair and beard, rather large nose, and wide mouth j dressed in a kind of Scotch tweed suit, and short buff- coloured leather leggings. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, or to Superintendent Hunt, Town Hall, Leeds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 23- Description of THOMPSON TUNNICLIFFE, charged on a warrant at Le> ds, for forgery : he is about 35 years of age, about 0 feet 10 inches high, proportionately built, pock- pitted, ginger whiskers, and light moustache ; dressed in a dark suit, and silk hat, is a hawker, and has a pedlar's certificate signed by the Chief Constable of Leeds. Informa- tion to be given to the Chief Constable, or to Superintendent Hunt, Detective Department, Town Hall, Leeds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Dow- street, February 19. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 21st instant, the dwelling- house of Abraham Weller, at the parish of Worth, Sussex, was broken into, and a small silver Geneva Watch, single case, six C0PPer Coins, a small metal Syringe, and three Half- sovereigns, stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- Hreet, February 23. Between 6 and 9- 30 p. m. the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Ann Burgess, situated in Barrington- street, was entered during the absence of the family, and the following articles stolen therein : a gold Brooch, has a hole in the centre, and flowered round the edges; an old- fashioned wedding Ring ; and £ 5 in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, February 21. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sunderland, between 3 p. m. on the 16th, and 12 noon on the 17th instant, by means of housebreaking: 1 gold oval- shaped Brooch, large size, a gentleman's portrait inside, twisted gold round the glass, the centre is reversible and works on a pivot. 1 silver card Case. 1 gold pencil Case. 1 baby's silver Whistle and Bells, marked on the mouth- piece ' W. N. B.' 2 gold dress Rings, one with a blue stone in centre, and pearls at the side, the other has the figure of a snakes head on it, with two small stones to form eyes. 1 gold- plated albert Chain, with a gold Franc- piece attached. 1 pair of gold Ear- drops, round shape 1 old- fashioned silver Watch, ' R. S. Burkett' scratched on the outside of inner casi. 1 silver Geneva Watch, has ' Jacob Joseph,' on the dial, has ' Mary Naizby, January, 1851,' scratched on out- side of iuuer case. 1 gold Brooch, with a ciurngoru stone in centre, the pin broken in centre. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Sunder- land.— Bow- street, February 21. The premises of Mr. E. Watts White Hart- street, Thet- ford, were broken and entered during the night of the 17th instant, and the following property stolen therein : Jet and vulcanite Bracelets, Brooches, & c. Silver Brooches Gold plated Brooches, with various stones. Silver plated Brooches, with pebbles and cameos. Some Lockets. Small plated gold Crosses, different sizes. Some Ear- drops, various. 2 Keeper Rings. 1 plain Signet Ring, white stone. 5 fancy Rings. About 30 silver Thimbles. plaid ; two clasp knives with brown buckshorn handles; and a blue check cotton Shirt, white common buttons, two at neckband and two on front. Information to be given to Su- perintendent Troke, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, February 19. Between the hours of 11 p. m. on the 12th and 7 a. m. on the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Davis, grocer, & c., Castletown, near Newport, was broken into and the following articles stolen therein : four silver Tea- spoons, two electro- plated ditto, and one electro- plated Fork, all have the letter D in old English engraved on the handles, and a bottle of Port Wine. An attempt was also made on the same night to break into the shop and warehouse. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, to Superintendent Mcintosh, Pontypool, or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary Station, Newport, Mon- mouthshire.— Bow- street, February 19. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field on the Longbridge- road, near Warwick, either on the nights of the 17th or the 18th instant, a bay Mare, aged, 15 hands 3 inches high, three white heels, white blaze on face, white patch on throat, splint on the off fore- leg, and the hair off the oil hip, the property of Mr. Jas. Austin, butcher, Old- square, Warwick. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bow- street, February 21. Further information respecting the white Horse and spring Cart stolen from Woore ( as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th ult.) They were seen in Newcastle- under- Lyme at 6 a. ni. on the same morning. A warrant is issued against JAMES MADDERS, butcher and pig dealer, of Audley, Staffordshire, for stealing the spring cart; he is 28 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, brown eyes, and dark complexion, cut marks on back of left hand, a number of moles on back of neck, and cut on lower lip ; has no fixed residence, and attends fairs in Salop, Cheshiie, Staffordshire, & c., and is well known to dealers. The horse is aged, between 14 and 15 hands high, cracked heels, clipped ( except between hind thighs); the cart was painted dark blue, no name, shafts bent and pointing down- wards, a butcher's cart with trap seat. Iuformation to be given to Sergeant Howells, Market Drayton, Salop, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, February 19. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of WILLIAM WESTERN, alias CHAS. GRAY, alias SLENDERMAN, charged with stealing a large 9 P O L I C E GAZETTE. February 1( 5. number of Pigeons, the property of William Rodmell, of Sutton, near Hull, Yorkshire, on the night of the 5th instant he is 36 years of age, 6 feet high, grey eyes, brown hair, nearl) black, brown whiskers, may be shaved off, sallow complexion, is a labourer, and sometimes works at brickmaking ; is well known iu the counties of York, Lincoln, and Nottingham. Information to be given to Superintendent Watson, East Riding Constabulary, Sproatley, near Hull.— Jfpw- strect, February 23. Description of JAMES SISMAN, charged with stealing on the morning of the 18th instant, at Tipton : a sdver level Watch, No, 29684, makers Mole and Lane, Birmingham, and a Purse, containing £ 1 7s. 3d. : he is 12 years of age, 4 feet 6 inches high, light hair, grey eyes, light complexion, and as a rash or breaking- out on one side of his face ; dressed in a dark plaid suit, and black cloth cap; he booked for London on the evening of the 19th instant, from the Trent Valley Railway Station, Lichfield. Information to be given t > Superintendent Holland, Wednesbury, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Feb. 23. Description of WILLIAM KEEFE, an Irish tramping hawker, who absconded from Aberystwith, on the 17th inst.. charged with having on the previous day at Hafodlas, Llanddewi- Brefi, stolen a quantity of Horse Hair, the pro- perty of John James, of that place, tanner, and which he sold to a marine store dealer at Aberystwith, shortly before absconding : from 27 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, florid complexion, and sandy whiskers; dressed in dark cloth clothes, black jimcrow hat, and strong boots ; he has been a soldier, and receives a pension, is fond of drink, and is supposed to have gone into North Wales. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Aberystwith, Cardiganshire, or to Sergeant Lyons, Tregaron, Cardiganshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 23. Absconded, charged with obtaining on the 12th instant, 10s. by false pretences: JOHN ELKINS, alias DICK TURPIN, alias JABEZ, a puddler, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion and eyes, dark brown curly hair, bald on the top of head, dark long thin whiskers and moustache, high cheek bones, slightly built, of very active appearance, and a native of Nantyglo, Monmouth- shire ; dressed iu a long dark brown coat, light cotton cord trousers, strong lace- up boots, and cheese- cutter cap, clothes very shabby ; he states that he is a gaffer, contractor, railway truck inspector, & c., and wants lodgings for himself and men at public- houses. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Evans, Constabulary Office, Crickhowell, or to Sergeant Wilson, Police Station, Brynmawr, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 23. Description of SELINA GREENING, a domestic servant, who on the 13th instant, absconded from the service of her master, Mr. Biddle, stealing two Bags aud £ 20, the goods and moneys of her master : 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, stout, short neck, rather pug nose, and ruddy complexion ; she is a native of Winchcomb, Gloucestershire, and was convicted at Gloucester some time back, for setting fire to some ricks, and was sent to a reformatory school ; she has also relatives at Stapleton, Bristol. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glosoop, Police Office, Detective Department, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, February 23. Stolen from a bed- room at the King's Head Inn, Chipping Ongar, on the morning of the morning of the 21st instant, the property of Mrs. Barlow : a gold Geneva Watch, No. 25410 with gold dial, also a long gold neck Chain, slightly made, attached. Supp' ised by a man who slept there the previous night, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, black whiskers and moustache, rather grey ; dressed iu dark clothes, with dark overcoat; he is of Jewish appearance, and left Ongar Railway Station by the 12' 25 p. m. train for London, Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Chipping Ongar, Essex.— Bow- street, February 23. Description of TOM DOWELL, a factor's clerk, who, on the 12th instant, absconded from Birmingham, stealing £ 2b, the moneys of his master : 29 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, very daik hair, whiskers, aud moustache, slightly made, and dressed respectably ; he will probably try to emigrate. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 23. Description of GEORGE GARRATT, a labourer, of Hinckley, Leicestershire, charged with stealing thirty Pigeons of a mixed breed ( sixteen of which are recovered), from a dove cot, the property of Tom John Craddock, at Nuneaton, on the night of the 18th instant : he is 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, and small whiskers ; dressed in a light grey tweed coat and vest, cord trousers, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Super- intendent Austin, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 23. Description of DANIEL NAYLOR, an inmate of Gig- gleswick Workhonse, who absconded about 7 p. m. onthelSth instant, dressed in the undermentioned Clothing, the property of the Guardians of the Settle Union : a black cotton cord Jacket and pair of Trousers ; a moleskin Vest; a grey calico Shirt, marked ' Settle Uuion, No. 2 | 73 ;' a pair of Stockings; aud a pair of Boots. He is 39 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ginger whiskers, pug nose, stout build, blue rnarks about his eyes, caused by an explosion, or by being cut witli coal, he is a coal miner, aud a native of the neighbourhood of Wigau, Lancashire ; he lias recently been working on the new line of railway from Settle to Carlisle, at Dents Head. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Copeland, West Riding Constabulary, Settle, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 21. Description of FRANK BUCK, a cabman, charged at Leeds with embezzlement : he is from 28 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, small ginger whiskers, speaks with the cockney accent ; dressed in a blue livery coat, with plain buttons washed with silver, dark trousers, and black silk hat; he will probably have with him a tortoise- shell cat. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, or to Superintendent lluut, Detective Depart- ment, Town Hall, Leeds, wht> holds, a warraut for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, Fi b- nary 21. Description of ANNE CLEGG, a servant, charged with stealing at Liscard on the 6th instant, a woollen Shirt ( re- covered) ; a pair of lady's elastic- side Boots ; a white calico Sheet; a pair of Women's white woollen Stocking^ ; and a white Apron : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, medium size, dark eyes and hair; dressed in a dark bonnet, with bunch of white artificial flowers and pearls on top, large old- fashioned waterproof cloak with large cape attached, and carries a grey muff with black points iu. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Police, Bir- kenhead, or to Inspector Saxton, Egremont, Birkenhead, Chester.— Bow- street, Febtua- y 19. Description of WILLIAM CAMPBELL, a deserter from the 5th Dragoon Guards, now quartered in York Barracks, who absconded iu the night of the 15th instant, stealing aud taking with him one Half- Sovereign in gold, one black Coat with black buttons, one pair of brown ribbed Ti ousei- s, one double- breasted Vest of the same material, one pair of half Boots, aud a black Hat; is 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 iuches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and grey eyes. His wife lives at Ligoniel, and is employed at Mountain Mill, Belfast, Ireland. Information to be given to Inspector Gibson, East riding Constabulary, Escrick, York.— Bow- street, February 19. Description of CHARLES NOYSE, and FREDERICK WILLIAMS, who absconded from Llanelly, Carmarthenshire, ou the night of the 10th instant, charged on warrants with stealing Butter, Cheese, Hams, aud Bacon, to the amount of about £ 80, the property of Mr. D. Evans, Market street, Llanelly : Noyse is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 iuches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers, hazel eyes, aud pale complexion; dressed iu dark clothes, and black bowler hat, is a labourer, a native of Llanelly and has been previously convicted for felony, at Cardigan, Carmarthen, and Swansea ; he can speak Welsh and English fluently. Williams is about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, light sandy hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, slender figure, and stoops a little ; dressed in dark clothes, aud black cloth cap with fur round it. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Scott, Carmarthen.— Bow- street, February ID. Stolen between 6 and 9 a. m. on the 14th instant, from the premises of John Frist, innkeeper, Ely Trinity, the pro- perty of a lodger : a pair of elastic- side Boots, about half worn out. By another lodger who slept in the bouse on the previous night; about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, browu hair and moustache; dressed in a dark coat, striped trousers aud waistcoat, and red v oollen shirt; is a hawker aud a native of Norwich, but often frequents races at Newmarket and other places. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Lantsbury, Ely, Cambridge..-— Bow- street, February 16. Description of WILLIAM GARDNER JACKSON, charged on a warraut with embezzlement, at Leeds : he is stout, and has a swaggering gait ; dressed in a black cloth suit, rather shabby coat and vest, of ribbed or French drill cloth, and black billycock hat. He was accompanied by a tall woman, about 40 years of age; dressed in print dress, plaid shawl, aud stiaw hat, with plaid ribbon.
