Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the oorpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BUKNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all JLetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters fend Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. Stolen during the night of the 3rd instant, from a field at. Lambourne End, the property of Mr. James Clark, farmer: a black nag Mare, in foal, aged, about 14 hands high, long mane and tail, hind fetlocks white, star on forehead, and small white spot on right of rump. Also stolen during the same night, from a shed, the pro- perty of Mr. Phillip Taylor, farmer, Stapleford Abbotts, a light spring Cart, painted black outside and white inside. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to Mr. James Clarke, Lambourne, or Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex. — Bow- street, February 9. Supposed to have been stolen from a stable at Walsall during the night of the 2nd instant: a grey Mare, aged, 14 hands one inch high, lame at the fore feet, and used to cab work. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 5. tenced to six calendar months' imprisonment, after a previous conviction at same place : and a woman with whom he is travelling, about 24 years of age 5 feet 1 inch high ; dressed in a dark liudsey dress, black an. L red plaid shawl, and black hat trimmed with green ribbons. They disposed of a portion of the stolen property at Worcester, about the 28th ultimo, saying it was part of a bankrupt stock, the remainder is supposed to have been disposed of at small shops in various towns, ( see Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo). £ 5 reward will be given for such information as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offenders. Absconded on the 23rd ultimo, from Crown Wharf, Creek- road, Deptford, charged with embezzlment: a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout build, sallow com- plexion, full round face, no whiskers, and dark hair ; dressed ROBBERY AID LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Samuel Langford, of Much Wenlock, Salop, about 8 p. m. on the 27th instant, while lying down drunk, at Coal Brook Dale : a verge Watch, German silver case, No. 868, maker Jasper Gregory, Basingstoke, and • S. L.' scratched < m-- the inside of case. Information to be given to Sergeant Wyley, Madeley, or to P. C. Cooper, Iron- bridge, Salop.— Bow- street, January 31. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on the 4th instant, from the house of Mr. C. Debenham, farmer, Ellough : a large old- fashioned tortoiseshell Watch, maker Fras. Colman, London; two electro- plated Dessert Spoons ; a silver Mustard Spoon, supposed to be marked ' T.' or ' D. a pair of Eye- glasses, silver- mounted ; and a Purse, containing £ 2 8s. Cd. Information to be given to the Police at Beccles, Suffolk.— Bow- street, February 9. Between 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 7th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Wm. Weed, of Empingham, Rutland, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black rough cloth Overcoat, loose made, double breasted, velvet . collar, twist buttons, two pockets outside, without flaps, nearly new, tad a red silk handkerchief, with shell pattern spots on it, in the pocket, and an old- fashioned silver dump Watch, double cases, Roman figures, has a bit chipped out of face. By two young men, tramps, one tall and slender, had on a cap, no whiskers, and the other short and stout, had on a black felt hat ; both wore dark clothes, and one carried a carpenter's tool basket, with a piece of wire attached over his shoulder.' Information to be given to Sergeant Bowland, Empiiigliam, or to the Chief Constable, Oakham, Rutland.— Bow- street, February 9. During the- night of the 1st instant, the workshop of John Morgans, shoemaker, Forden, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a light pair of watertight Boots, fore parts hard worn, brass eyelet- holes, and the seam of the left boot has been torn. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown ; or to P. C. Thomas, Montgomery.— Bow- street, February 5. Stolen by means of housebreaking from the rectory of St. Brides- super- Ely, near Cardiff, between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 28th instant : a wash- leather Bag, containing a Cheque for £ 14 6s. 1- ld., drawn on the National Provincial Bank, Cardiff, signed William Ayres ; another for £ 7 16s., drawn qn the same bank, signed C. L. Traherne ; two £ 5 Notes, of the Brecon Old Bank, old and dirty, Nos. not known; about £ 30, chiefly in gold ; two small slate- coloured ' calico Bags, containing from 26s. to 30s. each, with a good many - pence ; a 5- chamber Revolver, with ' George Webb, Oxford'; and a Ring, with blue and white stones. A man dressed in ragged clothes, tall and thin, was seen passing through, the village at the same time. Description of JOHN BURRELL, alias FREDERICK - who absconded from Armathwaite, Cumberland, on the 1st HAWKES, JOHN SMITH, WILLIAM MAYHEW,: instant, charged with embezzling £ 60, the property of the HENBY SMITH, & c., in which names he has been convicted, Armathwaite Co- operative Society, his employers: heis34 years in different counties, he is a native of Wymondham, and is 0f age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale face, dark brown whiskers now charged with stealing a Pony in Wymondham, on the and moustache, dark eyes, dark brown hair, and slender 15th ultimo, which he sold in Norwich : he is 30 years of age, figure ; dressed in brown tweed coat, grey tweed trousers 5 feet 4£ inches high, proportionate made, light brown hair, with black stripe down sides, and grey tweed vest, all much cut short in Yarmouth Gaol, small whiskers, meeting on the WOrn and soiled with flour, & c., black silk hat, and boots with chin, fresh complexion, grey eyes, has been in the army, and elastic sides; carried a new black travelling rug. He may is marked ' D.' on left side; dressed in grey coat, cord proceed to Ottawa, British North America, where he has a trousers, black chummy hat, sometimes dressed in black cloth, & c., is of slovenly appearance ; he frequents low beer- houses, and is sometimes employed by horse dealers, or as a drover. Absconded on the 3rd iustant, from Upper Gornal, Sedgley, charged with embezzlement : ISAAC THOMAS, late post master, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, rather thin, no whiskers, blind of left eye,- has a glass one substituted, pale complexion, and pockmarked; dressed in a dark overcoat, dark trouseirs, and black billycock hat, lie walks with a qjiick step, and it is supposed he will emigrate to America. Description of - CROSSLEY BOTTOMLEY, late a clerk in the employ of the Littleborough Gas Company, charged with embezzling various sums of money : 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache ; diessed in a brown cloth ov. CTCoat, dark cloth jacket, light tweed cloth trousers, and black Dilly- cock hat; he was formerly a clerk at the Railway Station, Littleborough, and is a native of that place. A reward of; £ 10 will be paid for his apprehension. By a man, who had been employed by the owner for a few days, about 23 years of age, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 27th ultimo, from Myatts Fields, Brockley- green : a red roan HOrse, 7 years old, 15 hands 1 inch high, thick neck, thick black legs, small feet, black tail, stoea- otf hind feet, and a fast trotter; also a brown cart Mare, 1' 0 years old, 15 hands high, white face, hind legs, and feet. . Supposedby a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, ruddy complexion, and cleanly shaved; dressed in light cord jacket and trousers, and black felt hat,— Metropolitan Police, P Division, February 9, - and eyes, small- sharp chin, carries his head a little forward, and speaks with a rough voice ; was dressed when last seen in hard low round hat, moleskin jacket, with white buttons, blue plush velvet vest, moleskin trousers, turned up at the bottoms, and strong navvy boots. He is likely to seek employment on some railway or under some town surveyor. Information to be given to Sergeant Baldwin, Kiuver, near Stourbridge, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 9. The youth, EDWABD GARRATT, who absconded from No. 113, Euston- road, stealing £ 250 in Bank of England Notes, and £ 15 in Gold ( as advertised in Police Gazette of 22nd ultimo), has been apprehended, and £ 130 of the stolen notes rec'overed. He is remanded at Clerkenwell Police Court till the 13th instant.— Bow- street, February 9. Absconded from Nottingham on the Ctli instant, charged with stealing £ 4 17s. 6d. and a Purse from her lodgings : MARY BRITTLE, a native of Matlock, 19 years of age, 5 feet high, rather stout, good- looking, light hair, fresh com- plexion, and light blue ey: es ; dressed in a green check frock, black jacket and hat, trimmed with violet lace. Information to be given to Chief Constable Parry, Nottingham Borough Police.— Bow- street, February 9. Charged with stealing on the 18th ultimo, from the lobby of an hotel in Coventry : two brown paper Parcels, belonging to a commercial traveller, containing a large quantity of Swiss Muslins and edge Works, used for trimming ladies under clothing: THOMAS HILL HENDERSON, alias ANDERSON, a tailor, 40 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh or sallow complexion, scar on right cheek and jaw, ' B. A.' on left arm ; was con- victed at Gloucester Quarter Sessions, January, 1871, for uttering counterfeit coin, at Cheltenham, and discharged from Gaol, on the 3rd January last; convicted also before the County Justices at Bath on the 11th August, 1870, and served three months in Shepton Mallet Gaol; also supposed to have been convicted at Southampton in January, 1870, and seu- 5 feet 8 inches high, slender make, light complexion, glides with left eye, slightly pockpitted, he is a native, of Leicester, and has the appearance of a horse keeper; dressed in a long blue coat, black cloth vest, drab woollen cord trousers, leggings, and spring- side boots, sometimes wears clogs. £ 1 reward will be paid on his apprehension and conviction and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Borough Police Office, Town Hall, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 7. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. Henshall Moss, farmer, Randlow, near Betley, in the county of Chester, between 10 p. m. on the 4th, and 7 a. m. on the 5th instant, the following property, viz. : one grey Shooting Coat and Vest, both nearly new ; one black Coat; one dark Vest; one double- breasted Vest, speckled cloth, and faded ; one pair of Watertight Boots, neariy new ; one pair of lace- up Boots, brass eyelet holes and capped ; also a pair of leather Leggings with springs. By a man of the following description, who was hired by Mr. Moss as a servant for the year, being quite a stranger, name unknown, but was called ' DICK,' and is between 45 and 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout and stiffly made, large grey whiskers, little finger of right hand stiff ; dressed in cord trousers, and moleskin sleeved waistcoat. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Boiv- st., Feb. 7. Stolen on the 31st ultimo, from a house in the parish of Meriden, a silver Watch, £ 2 5s. in Gold am: Silver, and a pair of man's elastic- side Boots, with white buttons. By a tramp- ing stableman, about 22 years of age, 5 feet high, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers ( meeting under chin) ; dressed in dark clothing and the stolen Boots. Information to be given to Superinendent Gallaway, Aston, Birmingham, or to Inspector Boulter, Coleshill, Warwickshire.-— Bow- st., Feb, 5. : Description of MICHAEL WILLIAMS, charged with stealing If cwt. of Bones ( recovered) at Willingdon, Sussex, on the 26th ultimo : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, weals eyes and bloodshot, light brown or sandy hair, and thick short beard, rather slight figure, of dirty appearance, leans forward, and has tender feet, is a col- lector of rags and bones, and sometimes hawks bags of sand for windows, has been a soldier ; dressed in dark close fitting dark coat, and mixture trousers. Information to be cap. given to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, who holds warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 5. Description of WILLIAM SMITH and ALEXANDER HIND, who have absconded, charged with stealing Rope from on board the barque 1 Nova Scotia,' lying in the river Tyne: Smith is a sailor, between 26 and 30 years of age, light hair, sallow complexion, grey eyes, about 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionately made, long face, proportionate nose, light whiskers, is a native of the Bull Ring, North Shields; dress d as a sailor with Guernsey frock. Has beeu previously con- victed of felony. Hind is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion and hair, cut short across forehead, no whiskers, dull looking, deaf, stoops, and is a native of North Shields, but of Irish parents. Information to be given at either of the River Police Stations of North and South Shields.-- Bow- street, February 5. Stolen from a field at Davenport, on the 31st ultimo : an old black monkey Jacket, with two pockets outside and one inside left breast, a little torn at the pockets, the right one sewn up with white thread, the property of Charles Barber : by an Irishman, a tramp, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, broad face, and deeply pockpitted; dressed iu old clothes, cap, and an old jacket, with a patch on right elbow. Information to be given to Superintendent Row- bottom, Middlewich, or to Sergeant Gosling, Polics Station, Astbury, Cheshire.— Bow- street, February 5. Description of GEORGE STEVENSON, charged at Bradford with embezzlement: about 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, fair complexion, thin light whiskers, speaks rather quick, of good address, and was lately agent to the Burton Brewery Company; dressed when last seen in a grey suit, and light drab overcoat. £ 5 reward will be paid for his apprehension, on application to Chief Con- stable Granhan, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 5. Stolen on the 1st instant, from the dwelling- house of Sarah Troughear, Sullart- street, Cockermouth : a black Shawl with silk fringe, a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots, a female's dark grey waterproof Jacket, a drab merino Dress trimmed with green, a new unmade lilac cotton Dress, a print Dress with a narrow white stripe, and a black Bonnet. By a lodger, a factory operative, a native of Ireland, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, proportionate figure ; dressed in the stolen property ; she has been traced to Whitehaven. Information to be" given to Superintendent Spencer, Cockermouth, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, February 5/ Description of HENRY MASON, of Eccleshall, Stafford- shire, charged on a warrant with stealing 3 yards of dark striped Cloth, a pair of dark striped cloth Trousers, and a black bowler Hat, from a dwelling- house at Wombridge, Salop, on the morning of the 29th ult. : he is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, full red face, and black hair, which he wears over left eye; dressed in old black loose jacket, light trousers with brown stripe down the sides, and clogs, Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, " Wellington, or to Sergeant Cox, St. George's, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 5. Absconded from Crickhowell, since August last, charged with being the bailee of a silver Watch, and converting the same to his own use : REES PRICE, a native of Crick- howell, watchmaker, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light brown hair, inclined to curl, blue eyes, long face, fresh complexion, slightly built, hangs his head down, and generally given to Superintendent Egerton, County Police, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, February 2. Absconded from Whitchurch, on the 29th ult., charged with stealing a Concertina, the property of Joseph Williams ; CHRISTOPHER MULLER, a German, supposed from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 fe » V 5 or 6 inches high, small sandy whiskers on sides of face ;! dressed in a dark grey Chesterfield coat, black soft quilted billycock hat, and an orange and black muffler ; he is going about thfe country tuning harmoniums, organs, & c., and repairing clocks and watches ; he maybe found in public- house playing a concertina and singing. He stated at the time he absconded that he was going to tune the harmonium at Macefin Church, Cheshire, also to Sandy- lane, near Malpas,- Cheshire ; had with liim six concertinas, . several of which are stolen, also one or more watches, & c. A woman of the following description is charged with obtaining Baby Linen and other goods by false pretences on the 1st instant: about 26 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, fair hair, and proportionate figure ; dressed in a mauve dress trimmed with black velvet, black velvet jacket, dark hat, and black fall ; speaks the southern dialect, and is of good address. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 5. JOSEPH DAW, charged with fraud, formerly a master butcher in High- street, Notting- hill; last known address in 1866, No. 57, Allerton- street, Hoxton ; was driving a cab in 1869 ; is about 65 years of age, grey hair and whiskers, tall, probably rather thin, and stooping. A reward of £ 20 will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Messrs, Humphreys and Morgan, Solicitors, Giltspur Chambers, Hoi- born Viaduct, London, or to Inspector Bailey, City of London. Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, February 5. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Missing from his home, and it is feared some ill has befallen him : a youth, 19 yrs. of age, about 5 ft. 7 ins. high, auburn hair and whiskers ; dressed in a dark mixture suit of clothes, dark striped woollen shirt, elastic- side boots, all in one piece, and a black jimcrow hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Moores, Police Station, Warren- street, Stockport, Cheshire.— Bm- street, February 9. Remanded at the Police Station, Harlow, Essex, until the 17tli instant, charged with larceny : a man giving the name of ALFRED PASFIELD, of Greenwich, a labourer, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark grey eyes, dark brown hair, tuft of hair on chin, no whiskers, thick upper lip, and has an impediment in his speech ; dressed in an old pilot jacket, dark trousers, blue guernsey, old blucher boots, and dark skull cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Smith, Harlow, Essex.— Bow- street, February 9. Missing from his home since the 4th instant : EDWARD TAYLOR, 7 years of age, dressed in blue knickerbockers, grey jacket, black cap, lace- tip boots ; it is supposed some ill has befallen him. Information to be given to Chief Superinten- dent Burt, Borough Police, Ryde, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, February 9. Missing from his home at Ore, near Hastings, Sussex, on the 8th of June last, and it is feared some ill has befallen him : RICHARD MILTON, 61 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, hair, and whiskers, slight figure, he is married, aud a shoemaker by trade ; dressed in dark jacket, trousers, and vest, flannel shirt, marked ' R. It is supposed that the party committing the robbery may be wearing the stolen boots, as an old pair of Wellington, boots have been found concealed in the garden. From all appearances the offender was a man with red hair, as an old plaid black and mauve wool shirt exceedingly dirty with filth from disease was found in the shop with several red hairs on it.
