Notice.— It u requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. C. %# Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and- Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Trinder, farmer, of Landlin, in the parish of Leigh, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black cloth Overcoat, maker's name ' Jas. Wilkes, 98, High- street, Worcester,' inside collar; and a few Bottles of Sherry Wine. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn, or to Acting Inspector Turner, Great Malvern, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 12. Description of GEORGE ATWELL, alias WAGGETT, charged with burglary : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, pockmarked, long sandy whiskers, and flat nose ; dressed in dark cloth jacket, fustian or cord trousers, and soft bowler hat ; he carries a canvas bag on his shoulder, and a small basket covered with oilcloth in his hand, and pretends to buy old clothes. Information to and an old silver pair- case verge Watch, outside case lost, has a small slide over the winding holes ' L. 72' scratched near the hole, inside case, maker Regeners, Liverpool, No. 26( 119, and has ' J. Allen, at Hartley, Kent, was entered, and the following property stolen: a very old- fashioned French Watch, small and thick, with white face ; a very old French gold hunting Watch ; a Lady's gold Geneva Watch; a gold Bracelet, set with turquoise and rubies ; a gold tu rquoise Ring; three pebble Brooches; a white cor- nelian Brooch, with forget- me- nots; an enamel Locket, with hair; a heart- shaped Locket; a child's chased silver Mug, engraved ' W. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Till Burton Frances, of New- market, on the morning of the 10th instant : a double- case silver lever hunting Watch, maker May, Norwich, engraved i n the centre of the outside case ' T. B. F.' and on the inside of the same case ' II. J. II.' Information to be On the night of the 24th ult., the oflice of the Wincanton Railway Station was broken into, and stolen therein : forty- eight pocket and pruning Knives ; twenty- one pairs of Scissors, all marked ' Joseph Heywood' and the trade mark— a tea kettle; and a Cartridge Turnover, marked ' Jeffries' Patent, Norwich.' A man of the following description sold, at Longburton, Dorset, seventeen of the Knives and seven pairs of Scissors : 28 to 30 years of a<* e, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, and little whiskers ; dressed in a dark coat, pocket outside, tight- fitting cord trousers, aud jimcrow hat ; said he was a hawker. Stolen between 6 and 7 p. m. on the 4th instant, from a gentleman's detached residence at Higher Broughton: a circular gold Brooch, with blue enamel centre, set with diamonds and pearls ; an oval shaped black and gold mourn- ing Brooch, set with diamonds and pearls, has also a small star in centre, set with diamonds ; a pair of ladies gold mosiac sleeve Studs, or solitaires; a lady's half- mourning gold Ring, set with diamonds and pearls ; a lady's gold lever Watch, gold dial, richly engraved on back, maker John Hall, Manchester, No. on plate 7626, No. inside case 3491 ; a lady's gold Chain, square secret link pattern ; a set of gentleman's diamond Studs, three in number, single stone, claw setting; and also a number of odd Studs and sleeve Links. The above offence is supposed to have been committed by some person or persons ascending the porchway or verandah, and forcing the bedroom window with a jemmy ; there was left behind an old white figured twilled silk handkerchief. £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery of the property, or in proportion thereto, and upon the conviction of the oflender or offenders. During the night of the 3rd instant, the residence of Mr. William Wainwright, Esq., of Hoe Place, Woking, was entered, between 8 and 9 p. m., aud the following Property stolen therein : a gold Watch, enamel gold face ; a gold Geneva Watch, white face ; a mosaic Brooch ; a Brooch, enamel and pearls about 50 round; an amethyst Locket, twelve pearls round ; two amethyst Brooches ; a large pearl Brooch, in the shape of a pie ; a silver Card Case ; a lady's Travelling Bag, plated fittings; an emerald Bracelet, set round with twelve pearls ; an elastic gold Bracelet, five pearls across and three at the end ; a gold Bracelet, with turquoise stone ; a pearl Ring, five large pearls and ruby centre. Further particulars respecting the robbery at Matthew Mortimer's, of Manningford Bohun, on the 16th ult. ( adver 9 FOLIC E GAZ ETT K. Description of a travelling concertina plaver, who ab- sconded from the city of Lincoln, and taking with him a Concertina entrusted to him for repairs ; he is about 30 years of a" e, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair, swarthy com- plexion ; dressed in black cap, with French peak, gilt band in front, and gilt braid on the top, black coat, and dark trousers. Description of THOMAS RILEY, labourer, of Ramsey St. Mary's, who absconded on the 27th ultimo, charged with stealing a Ferry Tool from Abraham Anker, at Whittlesey ( recovered) : about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, light brown hair and whiskers ( meeting under chin) ; dressed in a fustian coat and trousers, white slop, red neckerchief, and either a rusty- coloured cap or high black hat. He has recently been employed by Messrs. Guinett's Equestrian Company in Coventry, and is supposed to have gone towards Gloucester, with a view of joining some other circus. Information to be given to Head Constable Norris, Coventry, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 8. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, between 9 a. m. and 6 p. m., from a dwelling- house at Shorley Croft, Kenrick, the property of John Hodgson, mason, a blue pilot Overcoat ( recovered) : by a man named HENRY ROOK, a painter or paper hanger, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, slender make, blown hair cut short and rather curly ; dressed in a dark coat, dark check trousers, and black billy- cock hat with narrow brim. He obtained a ticket for night's lodging at Kenrick on the 27th ult., when he stated that he had that day come from Aspatria, and was going to Newcastle. Absconded from Rotherham, on the 2nd instant, charged with embezzlement : a brewer's traveller, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, arm deformed ; dressed in a dark brown mixture suit of clothes.
