POLICE Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature o< the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenover it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 10 a. m. on the 16th ultimo, the dead body of a female, named MILLISEN DAWES, of Gloucester, was found between tVie lock gates at the Gloucester Docks, by Vallentine Skidmore, lock- keeper : the skin over the right eye and one inside left breast, black velvet collar, black cloth buttons, and bound round the edge with braid ; a black cloth sac overcoat, black velvet collar, two pockets outside with flaps, black cloth buttons bound with braid, and rather narrow in the sleeves ; a blue pilot cloth frock Overcoat, black velvet collar, with two buttons and pockets behind, one inside right breast, black cloth buttons, and bound with braid ; a blue cloth frock Coat, two pockets behind, one in left breast, aud black cloth buttons : a pair of man's elastic- side Boots, worn ; an old pair of Oxford Gloves ; a pair of green kid Gloves ; a pair of brown Mits ; a brown, green, and white Scarf ; a clothes Brush, with mahogany coloured handle ; a brown silk Umbrella, yellow painted handle ; a new set of surgical Instruments, iu morocco case. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Home, Chesterfield, Derby.— Bow- street, November 10. Stolen by means of housebreaking from Weston Heath, near Newport, on Wednesday the 1st instant: 4 black and white mixture Jacket, a pair of black cloth Trousers, torn at both pockets, a pair of blue cloth Trousers, with black cloth waistband, a pair of men's Boots, toe- capped, and 7s. in silver. Supposed by two tramps, one about 35 years of age, wore a dark round jacket and clogs; the other about 16 years of age, dark jacket and tro isers, aud supposed to be wearing the stolen Boots, as an old pair was left behind. Information to be given to Sergeant Haywood, Church Eaton, Staffordshire; or Police Constable Cummins, Blymhill, Shiffnall, Salop.- Bow- street, November 6. On the night of the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of J. W. P. Watlington, Esq., Moor Hall, Harlow, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : three Overcoats, blue, with velvet collars ; a lady's blue waterproof Cloak ; three Um- brellas, two with silver bands, and one with ' J. W. P. W.' upon it ; two pairs of Boots, one pair new lace- up, the other buttoned, and newly soled ; a railway Hug, black on one side, and red aud black diamouds on the other ; a pair of steel Spurs ; a leather Case ; a gold Riug, with double crest ; two On the night of the 29th ultimo, the house of Elizabeth Ramsey, King- otreet, South Shields, was entered, and a Purse containing .£ 31 in Gold, aud about .£ 9 in Silver, and a pocket Book, containing about 10s. in Silver, stolen therein. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, South Shields.— Bow- street, November 1. was found sloughed down, and the nos^ battered in, there j pairs of leather Leggings, one pair black, the other brown ; were no bruises to be seen, or blood upon tier head or dress. On the 30th ultimo an inquest was held upon the body, when the doctor who had made a post- mortem examination, stated that the wounds were inflicted during life, and by some cutting instrument, and the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. Description of JOHN NICHOLLS, a bundler in wire works, but of late a dealer in Watches and Jewellery, charged1 iu the Borough of Middlesborough, with forgery : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 iuches high, pale looking, dark hair, small dark whiskers, has a mark at corner of one eye, and of smart and active appearance ; generally dressed iu a fashionable suit; is a native of Bilston, Staffordshire, which place he was seen ou the 4th instant. He may endeavour to emigrate. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesborough, who holds a warrant for bis apprehension, and will pay all expenses. — Bow- street, November 8. Description of WILLIAM COOK, charged at Glasgow with fraudulently obtaiuiug £ 375 from a bank in Glasgow, on presentation of two forged cheques : he is a musician and billiard marker and player, about 21 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches or 5 feet high, swarthy complexion, black curly haii-, which is long behind, dark eyes, has lost two front teeth, smart appearance ; dressed when last seen in blue clothes and round felt hat. A sheriff's warrant is granted for his appre- hension. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCall, or to Superintendent Brown, Central District Police Office, Glasgow.— Bow- street, November 1. a gilt postage stamp Case ; two soft felt Hats, one grey, the other brown ; two pairs of doeskin Gloves ; a morning tweed Coat ; a pair of leather Slippers ; and a green baize Bag. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bow- street, November 6. Between 7 and 10 p. m. on the 31st ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. T. Nickalls, of Horton Kirby, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a metal watch Chain ; a pair of sleeve Links ; aud a white woollen Scarf. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Police Station, Dartford, Kent.— Bow- treet, November 3. Between 10 p. m. the 30th, and 2 a. m. on the 31st ultimo, the dwelling- house of T. Brown, Esq., at Dartford, Kent, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein: a dark drab Over- coat, lined with silk, velvet collar, wash- leather pockets at sides ; a gold pencil Case, plain ; two silk Umbrellas, one browu, the other black ; two Tops of pepper boxes, silver ; and about 30s. in Silver. Information to be given to Super- intendent Brandon, Kent County Constabulary, Dartford.—- — Bow- street, November 3. Between 11 a. m. and 3 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the cottage of Joseph Smith, Butts Gate, Maresfield, Sussex, was broken aud entered, aud stolen therein : eleven Sovereigns ; ten Florius ; and a black leather Purse, with an elastic band • xound it. Supposed by a mau, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, appeared to be in bad health, grey eyes, light hair, no whiskers, stight built; dressed iu a dark coat, dark brown trousers, white scarf round the neck, black biliycock hat, and old low shoes. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes; or to Super- intendent Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex. — Bow- street, November 3. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Between 7 and 8 p. m. on the 4th instant, a boy was tarrying in a canvas bag, marked ' G. E. R.,' a sum of ,£ 20, belonging to the Great Eastern Railway Company, from their goods station at Wisbech, across a field towards their passen- ger station there ; he was waylaid, and knocked down by a man in shirt sleeves, and the Bag and Money were taken forcibly from his pocket; part of the money consists of a £ 5 Bank of England Note, No. B | 66, 25775. Information to be given to Head Constable Sharpe, Wisbech.— Bow- street, November 8. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 12 ttiidnight, and 5 a. m. on the 8th instant, the shop of Cadwaladr Griffiths, Bryneglwy's, was broken into, and the following stolen therein: thirty- three plaid woollen Shawls; a new Vest, dark, with small yellow or brown spots; and two pouuds of roll Tobacco. Information to be given to Chief Constable Denman, or to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw^ Wrexham, Denbighshire— Bow- st., November 10. On the night of the 7th instant, the Chesterfield Hospital was broken and eutered, and the following property stolen : a black rough cloth sac made Overcoat, two pockets outside, Stolen by housebreaking, early on the morning of the 8th ultimo, at Pubill, Glenlyon, parish of Fortingal, Perth : a double- breasted blue pilot Topcoat; much worn, small hole above right outside pocket; a single- breasted thick grey cloth shooting Coat, black bone buttons, nearly new ; a pair of dark grey tweed Trousers, little worn ; a black rep Gown ( recovered) ; a greyish mixture winsey Gown, little worn, . . fastens iu front with hooks and eyes; two women's black , a sum of £ 20,! cloth Jackets, nearly new, fastens in front with black buttons, ™ ' ™ frm" border of oue trimmed with four stripes of black satin, the other similarly trimmed, but has black buttons round border; a home made winsey Petticoat, dark and yellow mixture, with yellow stripes up and down, much worn ; a grey winsey Petticoat, black aud magenta stripe1- round skirt; a woman's grey waterproof Cloak, black buttous ; a dark cotton Umbrella, much worn ; a silver anchor Brooch ( recovered). By WILLIAM MILLAR, said to belong to Glasgow, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, black hair, dark brown whiskers, swarthy complexion, thin face, and common make; dressed in a blue pilot reefing jacket, dark cloth trousers, strong boots, white shirt, and dark brown cap, with peak. And MARGARET FORD or STEWART, a blind woman, belongs to Dundee, and sometimes sings in the streets, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet high, reddish hair, fresh complexion, aud thin face ; dressed iu a red tartan shawl, black straw bonnet, trimmed with white ribbon, white stockings, and elastic- side boots. They walk very smart, and when last seen in Dundee, on the 14th ultimo, were each wearing part of the stolen property. A sheriff's warrant has been issued for their apprehension. Stolen from Rcyston, Cambridge, on the night of the 7th instant, the property of William Stredder : a dark brown Mare, in good condition, 2i years old, 13| hands high, black legs, short square, tail, recently docked, and a piece of hair rubbed off the near shoulder. Information to be given to Superintendent Pallant, Police Station, Arrington, near Royston, Cambridge.— Bow- street, November 10. Stolen from a field at Shipbourn, Kent, on the'night of the 4th instant: a red Cow, with a wbit © tail, long horns standing upright. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, Novem- ber 10. 1 Stolen duiing the night of the 29th of November last, from a field near Edgbaston- lanc, Birmingham : a'bay Pony, about 14 hands high, knees have been broken, aged, and eyes very good ; has a mark on one hip darker than the general colour. £ 2 reward will be paid 011 its recovery, and convic- tion of the offender or offenders. Stolen during the night of the 20th ultimo, from a field at Dulwich : a dark bay Gelding, 13 hands high, star on forehead, long niaue and tail, aged, and in good coudition ; a dark bay Mare, 13 bands, 9 years old, black spot on the off shoulder, long tail, and in giod condition.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, November 8. Stolen from Bull Hill, Astley. near Stourport, on the night of the 1st instant, the property of Mr. Edward Red- fern ; a dark browu cob mare Pouy, 11 bauds 3 iuches high, a little white 011 both hind fetlocks, white star ou forehead, and a rick mark on stifle of near hind leg. Stolen from a field at Motcombe, on the night of the 1st inotant, the property of Mr. E. Godwin, of East Stower, an iron grey Horse, 4 years old, 15J hands high, and in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Brown, Dorset Constabulary, Shaftesbury.— Bow- street, November 6. Stolen during the night of the 31st ultimo, from a field at Milton, the property of William Essex : an aged horse Pony, 9 years old, 13 hands high, of a rusty duu colour, long rough coat, from having been turned out the past two months, a few white hairs on forehead, aud on the heels, switch tail, is a very fast trotter. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretton, Chesterton, Cambridge. — Bow- street, November 3. Stolen ou the night of the 29th ultimo, from the lands of E. Bate, Esq., Kelsterton, near Flint: a black faced Shrop- shire Down ewe Sheep, marked on the side with pitch ' E. B. | K.,' and may be marked on the rump with raddle, aud is full mouthed. Information to be given to Inspector Hughes, Mold ; or to Sergeant Ward, Flint, North Wales.— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen from a field at Great Marlow on the night of the 30th ultimo : a bay Cob, 6 years old, 14| hands high, thin switch tail; and a dark iron grey Cob, 5 years old, 13 hands high, small lump under saddle each side, and two scissor marks on each off leg. Information to be given to Inspector Breene, Police Station, Great Marlow, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen from a meadow at Gatton Comer, in the Borough of Reigate, during the night of the 30th ulti~ io, a dark brown Mare, aged, just fired behind in both hocks, and lame in the near hind leg, about 15 hands high, with a star on the forehead, the property of Mr. Henry King, of Redhill. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Rogers, Police Station, Redhill, Surrey.— Bow- street, November 1. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Shifnal, Salop, on the 8th ultimo ; FRANCIS JORDAN, charged with embezzling 6u., the monies of his master, John Henry Millward : he is 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 iuches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, oval visage ; dressed when absconded in dark clothes. Absconded from Stone, at 7 a. m. on the 7th instant, charged with stealing a washleather Purse and about 21s. in Silver, the property of Mark Cutten, hawker: a youth, . About 15 yews of age, low in stature, & nd slim make ; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, yellow buttons with anchor west, dark cord trousers, black cloth cap with turned up peak, states he is a native of Liverpool, aftd was taken iuto Cutten s service at Stockport about three weeks since. Stolen on the gnd instant, from the dwqlling- houso of a gentleman in Clifton- park, Tranmere, Cheshire, the following property: a lady's gold Geneva Watch, gold dial and dome, engraved case, maker Wible, Geneva, No. 13337 ; a long light coloured goM guard Chain, suake pattern, had attached a gold Mordant Pencil- case, with an amethyst or purple stone, which was fastened to the chain with a piece of thread ; a pair of lady's new buttoned winter Boots, very good quality. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Sunder- and, on the morning of the 1st instant : a gold lever Watch, No. 13056, cases bulged. Supposed by a man who passed by the name of JOHN GILCHRIST, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, no whiskers, light brown moustache, brown hair, quiet reserve manner ; dressed in a blue yachting jacket, blue trousers, large dark flat- topped cap, and red and white muffler ; supposed to be a seaman. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Central Police Station, Sunderland.— Bow- street, November 3. Absconded on the 31st ultimo, from No. 59, Great Titch- field- street, charged with stealing £ 90 in Gold, Silver, and Notes, the monies of his master: a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, fair hair, scar over right eye, rather stout; dressed in brown trousers and vest, and round hat, which he wears a little on one side.— Metropo- _ litan Police, E Division, November 3. Further information and description of WILLIAM BARTON, alias WILLIAM SAUNDERS, alias WILLIAM BRIGNALL, alias BRIGHTON BILL, charged with stealing carpenter's Tools at Hawkshouse, on the night of the 28th August, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th of September last: the Tools have since been recovered. He is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, and sandy whiskers ; dressed in a dark or brown velvet coat, and low- crowned hat, aud carries a great coat with him, which he wears at times ; is a stone sawyer by trade, and travels the country as a saw sharpener. Was in Hastings on the 16th ultimo, and left for Eastbourne, in company with a woman, whom he calls his wife, goes by the name of Margaret Saundeis, and who holds a pedlar's cercificate, issued at Carshalton. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, Kent Couuty Constabulary, Cranbrook, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 3. Desciiption of THOMAS WHEELER, who absconded from Loudon, charged on a warrant with embezzling about .£ 35 worth of Silk, entrusted to him to make up : he is about 54 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, thick set, fair com- plexion, light eyes, and no beard or whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes and high hat. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Depart- ment, 26, Old Jury, E. C .— Bow- street, November 1.
