TURF NOTES, AND SELECTIONS FOR THIS DAY'S RACES. Very little change took plaoe yesterday in tlie prices of the various candidates for the Liverpool Cup, but inquiries after Rose of Athol and Annie Wood were plentiful, the latter being backed at as low a figure as 100 to 6. Adonis and Sabinus found backers at 9 to 1 and 10 to 1 respectively, but offers of 11 to 1 against Agility found no response. 16 to 1 was accepted about Whinyard, and the same price was freely offered against Exciseman. Martyrdom, despite the rumours of his having broken down, was backed at 28 to 1, and 88 to 1 wss taken about Bothwell. Both backers and layers are chary in their dealings with Thesaurus, whose price will be greatly influenced by the manner in which he acquits himself to- day in the Lincoln Handicap. The principal event of the concluding day's sport at Worcester was the Grand Annual Steeple Chase, for which nine went to the post, The Spy being made favourite at 8 to 1, and he made some amends to his owner for the mistake which was made on the previous day by winning easily. The penalty which Prosper had to carry for winning the Handi- cap Plate on Wednesday enabled Sister to Elferon to turn the tables on him in the Autumn Flying Stakes, which was contested by five runners. The Lincoln Meeting commenced favourably, a dozen animals stripped for the first event on the card, the Blankney Nursery, for which there was some spirited betting. The race resulted in a complete turn- up, being won by the Fiction colt, who started at the remunerative price of 10 to 1, while the second and third were not mentioned. Nine faced the starter for the Great Tom Stakes, Thesaurus being backed against the field, and the result proved that his abilities had not been over- estimated, as he won very easily by two lengths. Vestminster showed rather different form in the Burton Welter Handicap to what he did in the Houghton Handicap on Saturday, as he pulled through on this occasion by three- quarters of a length. Flying Childers proved that he had some claims to this honoured name by the style in which he landed the Johnstone Plate from some speedy animals. The events of to- day may be decided as follows :— Consolation Scramble : HISTORIAN or OOB TOM. . —. Juvenile Handicap : CORBEILLE FILLY. Hainton Plate : GUY DAYBKLL or BEBNAL OSBORNE. Brownlow Nursery : RABY CASTLS. or SHIELDS. ^ Autumn Handicap : THESAURUS or MARMORA. ^ U >- ffy— j, Innkeepers' Stakes : FICTION FILLY or TURNTABLE. Queen'S Plato; SHATNON or EOLETL ' HERALD.
