The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of a aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, retputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the ek iwmstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not ntuma, their Appearance, Dress, and other marfo of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horeee for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. CONTAINING 3Vottce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may hear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. W. D. EUKNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Nome is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of WILLIAM BUCKINGHAM, of Eyn- sham, Oxon, labourer, charged with having on the 21st inst., wounded Thomas Savings, with intent to do him some grievous bodily harm: about 34 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 7 ins. high, thin features, sandy hair and whiskers. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Witney, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 25. FORGERY. Description of JOSEPH DUFTY, late of Kidder- minster, farmer, who is charged with uttering and putting off a forged acceptance of a Bill of Exchange for ,£ 44 8s.: he is 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very stout made, full face, fresh complexion, aud no whiskers; he was last seen going in the direction of Birmingham, accompanied by his son, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy whiskers, and light hair ; they are supposed to be in North or South Wales. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 23. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Chatham, on the 24th instant: a gold open- face Watch, black figures, maker Jackson, Observatory, Bristol, case rather worn. Also in the ticket office, Chatham Station, a gold hunting Watch, engine- turned on the face, initials ' W. F. G.' in Old English characters on back, f- plate, jewelled in 10 holes, maker Robert Haye, 5, Thayer- street, Manchester- square. Information to be given to Superintendent Merritt, Police Station, Chatham.— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen from the person of a Lady, at the Review at Chatham, on the 24th instant: a gold keyless hunting Watch, maker Bennett, London, No. 7917. Information to be given to Superintendent Gifford, Police Office, Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, October 27. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 24th instant, a small jobbing watch- maker's shop in the borough of Reading was broken and entered, and about ten or twelve gold Watches, and from fifty to sixty silver ditto, all of which belonged to persons who had left them to be repaired, the general stock not having been touched; the books containing names and numbers of watches were torn up and burnt. Amongst the watches stolen are the following : 1 gold chronometer Lever, Morton's patent improved, No. 1071. 1 gold f- plate Lever, maker Trendell, Reading, No. 22972. 1 gold detached Lever, makers Tobias and Co., Liverpool, jewelled in thirteen holes, No. 2869. 1 silver Verge, winds up in face, No, 2748. 1 silver Lever, no name, No. 13715. 1 silver Geneva, No, 48494. 1 silver Verge, maker Manning, Dublin, No. 154, ' H. E. D.' on the inside case. 1 silver Verge, maker Thos. Newsom, Tottenham. Information to be given to Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Office, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, October 30. During the night of the 27th instant, the workshop of Mark Putney, carpenter, Dorking, was broken into, and the under- mentioned Articles stolen therein : a Hand Saw, marked ' W. Hutton;' an iron mouth Smoothing Plane, maiked ' H. H.;' a Tenon Saw, marked ' A Reynolds;' a Plough and Irons, a Stock and Bits, a Trying Plane, a Smoothing Plane, a Hammer, a J- inch Firmer Chisel, a set of Firmer Chisels, a Mortice Gauge, and a Spoke Shave, all marked ' H. Boxall;' a Screw Driver: a quantity of Gimlets, Bradawls, Punches, and various small things, in a large tool Basket, marked ' H. Boxall ;' a Sash Fiiister, a half rip Saw, a Tenon Saw, a Panel Saw, a 12- inch Square, a Rabbet Plane, and two Aprons, all marked ' G. Packham.' Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Page, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking.— Bow- street, October 30. On the night of the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Jay, New Barn Farm, Downside, Cobham, Surrey, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : fifteen tea Spoons, three fiddle pattern, silver ; four table Spoons ; four salt Spoons, lined with gold ; a silver tea Pot, chased with roses, and rose leaves ; a silver butter Knife, with ivory handle ; a silver mustard Spoon ; a pair of electro Nutcrackers, twisted handles; a cruet Stand, with four cruets; a brown cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, a darn in one of the flaps; a new magenta table Cover, with amber silk em- broidered ; twenty- six yards of dark blue Poplin, some of it partly made up; nearly the whole of a Ham; five or six bottles of Wine ; and five or six pounds of Candles. A man of the following description pledged six tea Spoons at a pawn- broker's, at Kingston, on the morning of the 26th instant: he is about 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feec 10 or 11 inchcs high, full round face, and fresh ' complexion ; dressed in a velvet coat, worsted cord trousers, with gaiters, and a black deer- stalker hat; had the appearance of a gamekeeper, and gave the name of JOHN JACKSON, at the pawnbrokers. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Perfect, Weybridge ; cr to Superintendent Hollington, Chertsey, Surrey.— Bow- street, October 30. Descripti ® n of a man who absconded from Ashburton, on the 15th instant, charged with Burglary : about 30 years of age, about 5 ft. 9 inches high, brown hair, sandy whiskers j and moustache cut short, oval face and downcast look : dressed in short round jacket, either blue or brown, white slop under with worked collar, fustain trousers, Scotch cap, and lace- up boots. He is a discharged soldier, branded on the side, and tattooed aboutthe arms; he statedhe was going into Cornwall, and has been traced as far as Plymouth, in company with another man, dressed as a navvy, who has recently come out of prison. They frequent low beer- houses, and call at Police Stations and Unions for relief. Information to be given to Sergeant Newbury, Devon Constabulary, Ashburton, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Paris- street, Exeter.— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in Tynemouth : an electro- plated Teapot and Egg Stand, four ditto Tea Spoons ; a Microscope, in mahogany case ; two blue cloth Coats ; a pair of black Trousers ; a green serge Dress ; four Pillow- cases, marked ' J. S. E.;' four Sheets, four Table Cloths, all marked ' M. Baynes ;' three Sheets, marked ' J. S. Edington;' a damask Table Cloth ; a large white quilted Quilt, with a flower iu centre , three window Blinds. Description of a man j in custody, charged with stealing the same : JOHN PETTIGREW, 26 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, light hair, blue eyes, pale complexion, blue scar on forehead between eyebrows, two scars on left arm, one on right arm, two fingers of left hand contracted, and left leg crooked inwardly. Information to be given to Head Constable Stewart, Tynemouth, Northumberland.— Bow- street, October 25. Between 2 and 6 p. m. on the 23rd instant, the cottage ' of Robert Harris, Nunsley, Hereford, was broken into, and the following Articles stolen therein : three pairs of Trousers, one moleskin, one plaid, one light cloth, with black stripes up the sides ; a dark cloth Coat and Vest ; a dark grey cloth Vest; two calico Shirts ; two white Slops, nearly new; ancl two billycock Hats. Supposed by two tramps, they left their own clothes behind. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superintendent Blunsdon, Police Station, Ledbury.— Bm street, October 25. Stolen from a cottage at Ascot, on the 19th instant, by means of housebreaking, the following property : two black cloth Coats ; a blue Coat: a dark brown Waistcoat; a pair of black cloth Trousers; nine German silver Tea Spoons ; a pair of woman's new side lace- up Boots ; three large dark Overcoats, one nearly new; a pair of doeskin Trousers ; a black cloth Coat and Waistcoat; a brown tweed Waistcoat, nearly new; a plaid silk Handkerchief; a purple striped Necktie ; two pocket Handkerchiefs ; an Odd Fellows Sash ; a silver watch Guard; a suit of black cloth Clothes, nearly new; a large brown Overcoat, with white Handker- chiefs in pockets; a pair of dark tweed Trousers, nearly new; a £ b Bank Note, J8 in Gold, and 15s. in Silver ; the property of Wm. Hoptroff and three others. By two men of the following description : WILLIAM BARB, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark full face, moustache, no whiskers, tuft of hair on chin, prominent upper teeth ; dressed in black coat, much worn, and greasy dark trousers fitting tight to legs. GEORGE BARB, about 17 years of age, 5 feet high, no beard or whiskers, thin, full face, flushed, short brown hair dressed in drab c at, and brown- drab trousers, - worn at seat and patched behind. Both are costermongers. hawk herrings, & c., and were lately living at No. 8, Sun- street, Walhamgreen, Fulham; they have with them a dark pony, with broken knees and a white star on forehead, and a dark cart, lined with red ; they were traced in the direction of Egharn and Staines. Information to be given to Inspector Mansell, Police Station, Clewer, Berks, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, October 25. During the night of the 22nd instant, a temporary office at the new buildings, Hardwick- lodge, Empingham, Rutland, was broken open, and the following property stolen therein : a polished mahogany Box, 7 inches bv 5 inches, lined with blue velvet, and fastens with a brass snap, containing mathematical Instruments, consisting of a pair of electro- plated Compasses, with leg for pencil and pen ; a pair of brass spring Compasses, with ivory top ; I a pair of new brass Dividers ; a Pen, with ivory handle ; two mason's Rules, two feet long, folds in four ; a man's Jacket, blue and white plaid, single breasted, bone buttons, torn down front near button holes, and on right sleeve, two pockets outside, without flaps, and one inside left breast, has been repaired with new cloth at cuffs : and a youth's grey tweed Jacket, single breasted, brown bone buttons, two pockets outside, has had a pocket outside right breast, which is sewn up : both jackets besmeared with mortar. Information to be given to Sergeant Rowland, Empingham ; or to the Chief Constable, Oakham, Rutland.— Bow- street, October 25. Stolen about 10 a. m. on the 19th instant, at Haughton, by means of housebreaking : a pair of men's cotton cord Trousers, nearly new, with flaps ; a pair of men's light lace- up Boots, good tops, bottoms worn very thin ; a large plaid cotton Handkerchief ; a large drab Overcoat, double- breasted, buttons tight round waist and chest, and has long tails, such as are worn by coachmen ; a dark blue rough Overcoat, very little worn, ooubie- breasted, bad lining, torn at top from being hung ij. pother short, and has large wide cuffs on the sleeves; aud an artificial manure Sack. Supposed '<£ two tramps or timbrella menders: one about 30 years' of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, and pockmarked ; the other 5 feet 9 inches high, stout, light complexion, and dressed in dark rough clothes and billycock hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Stafford.— Bow- street, Oct. 23. Between 6 and 9" 30 p. m. on the 15th instant, the house of . Joseph Woodward, of South Darley, was broken into, and' stolen therein : a black- hafted Razor, with two small bits of white bone let in the handle ; 3 lbs. Bread ; li lb. Bacon; 2 oz. Tea ; 1 lb. Sugar ; a jar of plum Jam ; half a peck of Apples ; and three Half- crowns. Information to be given to Superintendent Sharpe, Police Station, Matlock, Bath. — Bow- street, October 23. Between 10 p. m. and 7 a. in. on the 15th instant the house of Thomas Turner Tate, in the parish of Rotherfield, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a quart bottle of Port Wine ; four or five pint bottles of Champagne ; part of a Leg of Mutton ; two small loaves of Bread, & c. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex, or at any Police Station in East Stu » e&.— Bow- street, Oct. 18. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING, Stolen from a field at Madeley, Salop,- on or about the 9th instant : six ewe Sheep, marked '. J. P.' on right side, the property of Mr. W. Page, of Madeley. £ 2 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Welling- ton, or to Sergeant Wyley, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, October 30. Found straying at Robertsbridge, Sussex, on the 26th ultimo, ancl supposed stolen: a bay Horse, aged, about 16 hands high, white fetlock on off hind leg, a little lame, and appears good tempered. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, to Superintendent Jenner, Battle ; or to Police Constable Richardson, Robertsbridge, Sussex.— Bow- street, October 30, Stolen on the 25th instant, from a field iu Lymm, a black Mare, 6 years old, 15 hands 1 inch high, and white stat- in forehead ; also a dark brown mare Pony, 4 years old, 13 hands 2 inches high, tail cut, and three small white spots on the back. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Sergeant Dutton, Lymm, Cheshire.— B< yw- street, October 30. Stolen from a field at the Thrupp, in the parish of Stroud, on the night of the 24th instant: a red and white yearling Ox, the property of A. J. Stanton, Esq. Information to be given to Superintendent Hanbidge, Stroud, Gloucestershire. - Bow- street, October 27. Stolen from a field at Madeley, on the night of the 22nd instant : a brown mare Pony, black mane and tail, about 13 hands high, in good condition, the property of Mr. W. Titley. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop; or to Sergeant Wyley, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen from a field at Rowley Regis, in the county of Stafford, during the night of the 17th instant: a dark brown half- bred Colt, 16 hands high, white star on forehead, the left hind foot is white, and the right hind foot is mingled with grey, has a cropped tail, the property of Mr. Joseph Whitehouse, farmer. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender 2 P O LI C E GAZE T T E. Supposed to have been stolen, from a field at South Stockton, North Riding of Yorkshire, on the 21st instant: an aged grey Pony, 14 hands high, a little hair off the far side where collar chafes; it was bought at Yarm Fair, on the 20th instant, aud came from Thirsk. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary Office, South Stockton- on- Tees.— Bow street, October 25. Supposed to Save been stolen, from a field at Handsworth, on the l( ith instant : a dark brown nag Horse,- fi yews old, 15 hands high, blemish on near hind leg, and bang tail; . also a grey dappled Mare, 6 years old, about 15 hands high, switch tail, and iu good condition. Information to be gUw » to Sergeant Richards, Police Office, Handsworth, or at any Police Office in the county of Stafford. — Bow- street, October 23. Stolen on the night of the 15th instant, from Aspenden : a chestnut cart Mare, aged, about 16 hands high, well bred, tit for a light van or cart, quiet in harness, the off hind leg is white half way up, and the other a little further, star on forehead ; a colt has recently been taken from her. It is supposed that she was driven away in a gipsey's cart, by tvvo men : 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in cord suits, trousers fitting tight to the legs, black felt round hats, lace- up boots, with brass eyelet- holes ; the cart had the name of Abraham Baldock, Abingdon, Berks,' on the side. £ 1 © reward is offered for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Oliver, Buntingford, Herts.— Bow- street, October 23. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Walsall: a black aged wagon Horse, 16 hands high, white star on fore- head, off hind fetlocks much swollen. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Boi' - street, October 20. Stolen from a field at Kenn, on the night of the 6tli inst., the property of Mr. Wm. Avery, a black cart Mare, aged, about 15-| hands high, off hind leg white, white star on fore- head, a large white saddle mark on near side of back, tail cut round hocks, had several white marks, having been stitched up about two years ago after foaling, in good condition, shoe off the off hind foot, the others much worn. Some gipsies were in the neighbourhood some time before, and are sus- pected. Information to be given to Superintendent Jones, Constabulary Office, Long Ashton, near Bristol; or to the Police, Clevedon, Somerset.— Bow- street, October 20. Description of WILLIAM TURNER, alias THOMAS TURNER, charged with stealing, on the S} 2nd instant, £ 50 from a dwelling- house in Leicester: 28 years of age, 5 " feet 7f inches high, light - brown hair, light s » u4y whiskess, grey eyes, fair complexiqi, mole on left chtek, blue ring on middle finger of left hand, letter ' D.' on left side, « ftiid ' blue mark on left wrist. He was convicted at Middlesex Sessions, on the 1st November, 1869, of larceny, and senteuced to eighteen calendar months' hard labour and seven years' police super- vision. He is supposed to be accompanied by a female about 22 years of age, and about 5 feet 2 iuches high. Information to be given to Head Constable Charters, Police Office, Leicester. — Bow- street, October 25. Stolen on the 14th instant, from 25, Oxford- street : £ lt> in Gold ; and a pair of elastic- side Boots, imitation buttons, By two men, one 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, no beard, and carried a small, gold watch, enamelled back ; the other about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, no whiskers, heavy mous- tache, and dark imperial; both well dressed, and can be identified— Metropolitan Police, E Division, October 23. Description of WILLIAM JACKSON, alias SOLDIER BILL, charged with stealing a smock Jacket at Lea, on the 9th instant, since recovered : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather sore eyes, light hair, whiskers shaved off, slovenly gait, turns his feet out and stoops when walking; dressed in dirty brown jacket, drab trousers, black cloth cap, and red neckerchief. He works for farmers, frequents low lodging- houses, and supposed to belong to or near Boston. Information to be given to Superintendent Jarvis, Gains- borough, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his a, ppre hension.— Bow- street, October 23. Absconded from Hastings, on the 19th instant, charged with stealing £ 50 in Notes ( which he exchanged for cash), and a Cheque for £ 24, the monies of Mr. John Nixon, of the Anchor Inn, George- st„ Hastings : WILLIAM WHYMAN, alias RICHARD ELGAR-, a baker ( formerly apprenticed to a liuendraper), a native of Sandwich, Kent, about. 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, no whiskers, brown hair, dark eyes, and of dissipated appearance ; dressed in a dark mixture coat and vest, light striped trousers, and low- crowned black hat; he may endeavour to emigrate. £ 10 reward will be paid on his apprehension and recovery of the money, or in proportion to the amount recovered, and all reasonable expenses will be paid. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 23. Absconded from Swindon on the 19th instant, stealing a silver Geneva Watch, with ' E. C. T.' on outside case : a man, about 48 years of age, .6 feet high, dark swarthy com- plexion, dark bushy hair, moustach, has a ring tattooed on each finger of left hand, also tattooed on each aim : dressed in dark cord trousers and vest, dark brown overcoat with velvet collar of lighter shade, and black billycock hat ; is a biicklayer, and has been in the Army. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon, Wilts.— Bwv- street, October 23. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen during the night of the 23rd instant, from an out- house at Kirby Moorside, the property of Thomas Robinson, chimney sweep, a patent Chimney Sweeping Machine, with whalebone brush, brass head and wheel, and fourteen or fifteen lengths of Cane Rods, the first four lengths a little longer than the remainder; a small hand Brush, the handle is broken and tied with twine ; and a large machine soot Cloth. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, and stout build ; dressed when last see% in a fustian jacket, nioteskin trousers, and black felt hat with very large brim ; supposed to be a native of Whitby. He was traced to Kildale, Battersby- iu- Cleveland, on the 25th instant. He is supposed to be making his way north, and that he is not a practical sweep. D.' on left side, tattooed over with a fish, a flag and wheel on right arm, scar on back of left hand, and four capitals on left arm, thought to be either ' J. E.' or ' A, E.', and ' R. P.' or ' R. O.;' joined Mander's Menagerie, at Newcastle- upon- Tyne, about February last, in which establishment he was known as YORKIE.
