Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may hear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from, the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intonded for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pah Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 3rd instant, the dead body of a newly- born male Child was found on the seashore in the parish of Worth, near Deal, in a state of nudity ; there were marks of violence on the neck, death having been caused by strangulation. At an adjourned inquest held at Deal on the 11th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful mnrder' was retu" ned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Chief Constable Parker, Borough Police, Deal, Kent.— Bow- street, September 13. FORGERY. Description of EDWARD BROOK, charged with forgery at Bradford, who absconded on the 9th inst., and is supposed to have gone to some seaport town with the intention of embarking to America or Australia : he is a woolstapler, about 42 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, well built, rather stiff brown hair, whiskers, moustache, and beard turning grey, supposed to have a slight cast in one eye, and is a native of Bradford; generally dressed in dark mixture cloth clothes. ,£ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as may lead to his apprehension, on application to Chief Constable Grauhan, Central Police Office, Bradford, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, September 13. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from persons at Meopham Races on the 7th inst., a large old- fashioned gold Watch, capped and. jewelled ; a gold Geneva Watch, No. 21383, white face, dent near bow ; also a gold Pin, onyx, with a diamond fly. Information to be given to Superintendent Merritt, Police Station, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, September 15. Stolen on the 9th instant, from the person of William Granger, of the Isca Inn, Newport, Monmouthshire, during a disturbance at his house: a gold Watch, maker Jones, London, No. 20581, engraved on case ' Presented to Captain William Granger, by the passengers of the ship Queen of India.' £ 5 reward will be paid upon the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Superintendent Huxtable, Borough Police Office, Newport, Monmouthshire. — Bow- street, September 15. The house surgeon's residence at the Infirmary, in the borough of Southport, was broken and entered between 1 and a. m. on the 15th instant, and the following property stolen therein : 1 brass Microscope, by Pillisher, name on the pedestal, i- inch object glass. I mahogany Box, about 8 inches square, with brass handle at the top, and has the usual fittings inside for the microscope. 1 Russia leather pocket Case, used by surgeons for carrying instruments, has a brass clasp which will not fasten, and contains about nine Instruments, most of which have tortoiseshell handles, one has an iron handle with steel hook, and one has a black bone handle. 1 smaller sized instrument Case, most of the instruments have white ivory or bone handles. 1 large sized silver caustic Case. 3 silver Probes. Surgical Needles, and a small coil of silver Wire. 1 circular magnifying Glass, set in brass, with brass handle, and set at right- angles to a sliding brass upright with circular pedestal. 1 meerschaum Pipe, the bowl is carved in the form of a Turk's head with long beard, and has a cap on the head, which has bad a tassel at the back which is broken off, has a gold band round the stem, and the owner's name, ' G. A. Coombe,' thereon ; enclosed in a brown leather case, lined with red velvet on one side and silk on the other. 1 small brass spirit Lamp, with extinguisher. 1 briar- root Pipe, with amber mouthpiece. 1 light blue cloth Overcoat, with black velvet collar, has the name ' Wells' on the inside of the collar, has a white cambric Handkerchief in one of the pockets, with the owner's name ' G. A. Coombe,' marked with ink at one corner. 1 rough black cloth frock Coat, has one pocket inside left breast and two in the tail, one of which has the lining torn. I thick dark ribbed cloth Coat, one pocket inside left breast and two on the hips, has a Dispensary Note in one pocket. 1 pair of light- made low lace- up Shoes, the tongue of left shoe is torn out. 1 very long double- breasted blue pilot cloth Overcoat. £ 5 reward will, be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, on application to Head Constable Kershaw, Southport, Lancashire.— Bow- street, September 18. During the night of the 15th instant the workshop of Mr. Brown, Letherhead, Surrey, was broken open, and the following property stolen therein : two Hand Saws, two panel do., two tenon do., two smoothing planes, one trying do., one side Philister, four long paring Chisels, two Screwdrivers, one brass bound Stock and Bits, one small Tool Basket; some of the tools are marked ' G. Brown', others ' J. Harvey' and ' J. Marks'; a man who applied at the shop for work is suspected ; he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in a long dark coat, dark trousers, and dark wideawake, turned up at the sides. Information to be given to Superintendent Page, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking, or at the Police Station, Letherhead.- Bow- street, September 18. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 6 a. m. and 7 p. m. on the 14th instant the dwell- ing- house of William Tolhurst, of Coursely Wood, Wad- hurst, Sussex, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a pair of Pictures, gilt frames, subject ' Feed my sheep' on one, and ' Miraculous draught of fishes' oh the other ; also a pair of pictures, wooden frames, gilt moulding, subject ' the figure of our Saviour blessing little children' on one, and ' His entrance into Jeru- salem' on the other; each abdut 9 inches by 12. Informa- tion to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, to Sergeant Avery, Court House, Mark Cross ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex. - Bow- street, September 18. Stolen by means of housebreaking in the parish of Lud- denham, Kent: a black cloth Coat; two ditto Vests ; a small silver Geneva Watch, black letters, sunk sfconds ; and a fine silver neck Guard. By a man, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow face, good looking, black or dark hair, dark rusty whiskers round chin ; dressed in long brown coat, dark grey trousers, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, September 18. Description of JOSEPH STEPHENSON, who is charged with housebreaking at Staindrop, on the 6th instant, and stealing a quantity of silver Plate, which has since been recovered : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark eyes, sandy hair, slight moustache, little or no whiskers, large nose, has a small brown mark on top of left thigh, and several small scars on his back, by trade a stone mason ; dressed when last seen in a dark grey cloth coat and vest, cord trousers, and black felt hat; he was dis- chaiged from Durham Prison on the 3rd July last, after having undergone 15 months imprisonment, and ordered to be under the supervision of the Police for 5 years, for shop- breaking at Staindrop. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Marley, Police Office, Barnard Castle, Durham.— Bow- street, September 18. Eurther information respecting the robbery at the dwelling- house of A. H. Elger, Esq., on the 29th ultimo : two Razors, with ivory handles, and a pair of paper Scissors, were stolen. Information to be given to Head Constable Gifford, Police Office, Maidstone.— Bow- street, September 15. Description of JOSEPH STEPHENSON, charged at Knaresborough with another man, in custody, with burgla- riously entering a dwelling- house at Ramsgill, in the township of Stonebeck, Down, anrl stealing therein : four silvar tea Spoons, marked ' J. S.— J.;' four silver tea Spoons, marked ' J. W.;' six electro- plated tea Spoons; and some wearing Apparel, between 11 p. m. the 8th and 6 a. m. the 9th instant; he is also charged with entering a dwelling- house in the town- ship of Laverton, about 3 p. m. on the 8th instant, and stealing therein : a brown leather Purse, containing Is. Id. and a quantity of wearing Apparel : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, small moustache, a mason, and a native of Staindrop, Durham; dressed in black billycock liat, soft brown, dark cloth coat, light cloth trousers, and Wellington' boots, with heels thai work upon a screw, and turn round at will. Information to be given to Superintendent Haworth, Court House, Knares borough.— Bow- street, September 15. Between 6' 30 and 8 p. m. on the 28th ult., the dwelling- house of Mrs. Davis, Rodwell, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : A garnet Brooch, in form of Maltese cross. A garnet and pearl Brooch, with hair. A Bracelet, with carbuncle drops. A garnet and pearl Brooch, with hair. A gold Bracelet, with carbuncle drops. A gold Maltese Brooch, like two drops. A gold Ring, garnet and pearl, set like three forget- me- nots. A gold Ring, with black stones and grey hair, ' C. D.' on back. A mourning Brooch, with pearl forget- me- not, ' Horsfall' on back. A cameo and gold Pin. A carved coral Brooch, set in gold. A silver Heart to hook on a bracelet, bent. A gold linked Bracelet. A strong gold Chain, with three Lockets and Cross attached, one locket with likeness of a lady and gentleman. A gold Vinaigrette, with ' E. B.' on top. A pearl Cross, set in gold, small diamonds in it. A pearl Brooch, with hair and pearls, ' Sarah Ellary' on back. A painted Brooch, bunch of fruit. A gilt Chain, with clasp. A gold Ring, set in pearls, rubies, and emeralds. Several Paintings of Indian temples on ivory, for brooches. A round gold Locket, ' J. B.' on back. A small Indian gold Chain. Supposed by two men of the following description, who were seen close to the house about 6' 30 p. m. : one about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, light complexion, light hair, no whiskers, a very large tuft of sandy hair on chin; .. in:.-- .- 1 in a new grey overcoat, Lrorn cap, and light trousers : the other about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, well built, and is very talkative ; dressed in dark clothes. £ 15 reward will be paid for the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Super- intendent Vickery, Guildhall, Weymouth, Dorsetshire. - Bow- street, September 13. Between 8' 30 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Christopher Walker, of Low Farm, in th township of Appleton- upon- Wiske, was entered by forcing open a window, during the absence of the family, and the following articles stolen : an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, No. 4708, Wm. Marshall, London, and a paper in outer case, with the name ' Thompson Cade, Northallerton, 5th March, 1866,' had attached a double- linked steel Chain, with three Cents and a Farthing at the end, £ 2 in Gold, two Half- crowns, two Florins, and 2s. in Silver, and 3d. in Copper. A man of the following description, who was seen begging near the house on the morning of the robbery, is suspected : from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8' inches high, light hair and whiskers round face, short beard ; dressed in an old dark vest over a harden slop, black billycock hat with high crown and narrow brim, cord trousers, strong boots, and carried a coat over his arm ; had the appearance of a tramping labourer. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton- on- Tees, or to Sergeant Kitching, Police Office, Yarm, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, September 13. During the night of the 5th or morning of the 6th inst., the dwelling- house of Mr. A. G. Winham, Fore- street, Hertford, was entered by a back window, and the following articles stolen therein : a silver Table Spoon, marked ' R. H. T.'; two silver Tea Spoons, marked ' A.'; a silver Salt Spoon ; a Caddy Spoon ; a pair of patent leather dress Boots ; a blue cloth Overcoat with black velvet collar; a brown cloth Overcoat with velvet collar, marked inside ' A. J. W.', and a small hole near one of the side pockets. £ 3 reward will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the stolen property. Information to be given to Head Constable Jarrett, Police Office, Hertford.— Bow- street, September 11. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Bedfield, in the county of Suffolk, between the 7th and 10th instant : a small light roan horse Pony, aged, blind of right eye, hog mane, has a brand on one of its shoulders. Information to be given to Police Constable Cock, Earlsoham.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen on the night of the 13th instant, from a field at Langley, near Oldbury, Worcestershire, a black Horse, about 16 hands high, one hind leg white over fetlock, the property of Messrs G. S. and J. Thompson. If stolen, any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive a reward of £ 5 5s., from the Langley Association for the prosecution of felons, also a reward of £ 5 from the Oldbury Association, and also a reward of £ 4 15s. from Messrs. G. S. and J. Thompson. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Halesowen, or to Sergeant Simmonds, Police Station, Oldbury, nr. Birmingham.— Bow- street, September 18. • Stolen from a field at Brimscombe, in the. parish of Rodborough, on the night of the 6th instant: a dark brown half- bred Mare, 3 years old, 14 hands high, star on forehead. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hanbidge, Stroud, Gloucestershire.— Bow• Stolen from Lavenham on the night of morning of the 5th instant, the property of Samuel Howe : a hazel eyes. dark brown 110 beard, stout figure, a native caP or body hat. brown bay mare Pony, 12| hands high, aged, brown legs, 0f Plymouth ; dressed in black cutaway coat, shepherd's plaid stable, Saggersou, Irishman, charged with a criminal black mane and tail, a few white hairs on the back, marked ' T.' 011 the near side, and near side knee broken. Stolen during the night of the 5th instant: a dark brown hackney Mare,, aged,, about 14$. hands high, scar on both knees, near hind fetlock white, white saddle marks oil back, short black mane and tail, and in low condition. Absconded from Bedford, charged with embezzlement : JOSEPH JAMES, who had been employed as carman by the Midland Railway Company : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, black hair and eyes, short and stout, dark complexion, a tuft of hair on chin. Information to be given to Chief Constable Verey, Bedford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 18. Absconded on the 9tli instant, charged with stealing from 75, Brixton- road : a black Bag, containing several new pairs of Boot's, and about £ 3 in Gold and Silver : a boy, 14 years of age, dark complexion and hair, full face ; dressed, in grey jacket, dark trousers, white shirt and co. lar, and black billy- cock hat.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, September 18. Absconded from 33, Barton- street, Gloucester, on the 14th instant, charged with stealing: a black cloth single- breasted Jacket, pockets with flaps at sides ; a black cloth Vest; and a pair of black cloth Trousers, all nearly new :— HENRY SEYMOUR, alias JOB WEEKS, a convicted thief ( who was released from Gloucester Prison in June last, after twelve months' imprisonment for stealing carpenters' Tools at Marsh field), 24 years of age, 5 feet. 8 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, d.-< rk complexion, thick lips, scar on forehead, and slight black moustache; dressed in black bowler hat, white slop, dark waistcoat, and dark military trousers, with stripes takeu out, or may be wearing tbe stolen clothes; lie is a native of Jockeyman's Bottom, near Tetbury, Wilts, and is supposed t, o be a deserter from tire army. Absconded, charged with stealing on the 13th instant, from 126, High- street, Whitechapel : a small silver open- face Geneva Watch, engine- turned, gilt face, jewelled in 10 holes, stamped inside case ; a gold neck Chain, secret link pattern ; a gold Ring,, cluster of stones, pink, white, and green ; a ditto, rose diamonds; stamped inside ' J. W. :' a woman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair; dressed in violet skirt, black clotli jacket, and black velvet bonnet, trimmed with brown.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, September 18. Stolen on the 15th iustant, from the Citidal Barracks, Dover : a silver Watch, maker Theodore Lawley, London, No. 1018; a ditto, No. 40 > 19. By a soldier of the 67th Regiment, who has deserted, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and is marked with the letter ' D ;'' supposed to be wearing private clothes. Stolen on the 11th instant, from a bedroom at Newington, Kent, the property of Richard Goodwin : aD old- fashioned silver verge Watch, case very much worn, the glass cracked from figures 11 to 6, and a short steel Guard attached. By a, lodger," about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair, aud whiskers ; dressed in cord trousers, white slop, blue guernsey, blue check shirt, and billycock hat. Absconded from the borough of Shrewsbury, on the 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing an American Clock: THOMAS DAVIES, by trade a gasfitter or tinman, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, aud small dark moustache ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, velvet collar, white slop, cord or moleskin trousers, hard bat, and red neckerchief. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, September 15. Description of JOHN HURST, charged at Stockport with stealing twenty yards of Calico, since recovered, from a mill,: about 30 years of age, 5 feet .6 inches high, stout, dark brown hair, and has lost his left arm to the shoulder; he is a native of Stockport, aud is supposed to have gone either to Bolton, Macclesfield, Oldham, or Poynton. Description of JOHN PERRY, alias WITHINGTON, alias WEATE, charged with felony, at Wolverhampton : he is 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light hair, blue eyes, bald, prominent forehead, scar on right eyebrow, fresh com- plexion, a striker or brewer by trade. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Wolverhampton.— Bow- street, September 15. trousers, blacb ten hat, ami a new pair oi lace- up boots ; tlie other 25 years of age, 5 feet 5j iuches high, fresli complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, no beard, stout figure, a native of North Walton, Hants ; supposed dressed in the stolen suit of heather mixture. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stokes, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire,— Bow- street, Sept., 13 Description of a man who was sent to the Brighton Railway Terminus ou the evening'of- the 11th instant, for some luggage, and. obtained a leather Hat Box, aud a, blaok hand Bag, containing £. 25 in £ 5 Bank of England Notes, an Oriental Bank Cheque- book, some - Brushes', a Cigar case; and. Letters and Papers, with which he has absconded : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet* 10' or 11 inches high, fair complexion, and light hair, whiskers, and moustache; dressed iu dark clothes. Absconded on the 5th instant, charged- with embezzling £ 10, the property of bis master: a man, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, sallow complexion, freckled, brown hair, hazel eyes; dressed in a drab ciat, light trousers and vest, black wideiwake hat.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, Sep- tember 13. Absconded on the 4th instant, from 33 Woodland- street, Dalston, charged with embezzling £ 2, the money of his master : a mau 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, dark hair aud complexion ; dressed in a brown mixture coat, cord trousers, and black wideawake hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, September 13. Absconded on tbe 4th instant, charged with stealing £ 80, the monies of his master : a man 24 years of age, 5 ft. 8^ inches high, dark hair and complexion, dark blue eyes, full face ; supposed dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, September 13.
