CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The4 Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 3rd instant, the dead body of a newly- born male Child was found on the seashore in the parish of Worth, near Deal, in a state of nudity ; there were marks of violence on the neck, death, having been caused by strangulation. At an adjourned inquest held at Deal on the 11th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Chief Constable Parker, Borough Police, Deal, Kent.— Bow- street, September 13. FORGERY. Description of EDWARD BROOK, charged with forgery at Bradford, who absconded on the 9th inst., and is supposed to have gone to some seaport town with the intention of embarking to America or Australia: he is a woolstapler, about 42 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, well built, rather stiff brown hair, whiskers, moustache, and beard turning grey, supposed to have a slight cast in one eye, and is a native of Bradford; generally dressed in dark mixture cloth clothes. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as may lead|° to his apprehension, on application to Chief Constable Grauhan, Central Police Office, Bradford, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, September 13. Absconded on the 17th ultimo, from Parkhurst, Isle of Wight, charged with forgery : Paymaster- Sergeant HENRY HOWES, 103rd Regiment ( real name WILLIAM HENRY ANDREWS), 27 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, one molar tooth on left side and one on right side in a state of decay, and is a smart well- made man ; dressed in plain clothes. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Scotland- yard.— Bow- street, September 8. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from persons at Meopham Races on the 7th inst., a large old- fashioned gold Watch, capped and jewelled; a gold Geneva Watch, No. 21383, white face, dent near bow; also a gold Pin, onyx, with a diamond fly. Information to be given to Superintendent Merritt, Police Station, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, September 15. Stolen on the 9tli instant, from the person of William Granger, of the Isca Inn, Newport, Monmouthshire, during a disturbance at his house: a gold Watch, maker Jones, London, No. 20581, engraved on case ' Presented to Captain William Granger, by the passengers of the ship Queen of India.' £ 5 reward will be paid upon the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Superintendent Huxtable, Borough Police Office, Newport, Monmouthshire. — Bow- street, September 15. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Further information respecting the robbery at the dwelling- house of A. H. Elger, Esq., on the 29thultimo : two Razors, with ivory handles, aud a pair of paper Scissors, were stolen. Information to be given to Head Constable Gifford, Police Office, Maidstone.— Bow- street, September 15. Description of JOSEPH STEPHENSON, charged at Knaresborough with another man, in custody, with burgla- riously entering a dwelling- house atRamsgill, in the township of Stonebeck, Down, and stealing therein : four silver tea Spoons, marked'J. S.— J.;' four silver tea Spoons, marked ' J. W.;' six electro- plated tea Spoons; and some wearing Apparel, between 11 p. m. the 6th and 0 a. m. the 9th instant; he is also charged with entering a dwelling- house in the town- ship of Laverton, about 3 p. m. on the 8th instant, and stealing therein : a brown leather Purse, containing Is. Id. and a quantity of wearing Apparel : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, small moustache, a mason, and a native of Staindrop, Durham: dressed in black billycock hat, soft brown, dark cloth coat, light cloth trousers, and Wellington boots, with heels that work upon a screw, and turn round at will. Between 6' 30 and 8 p. m. on the 28th ult., the dwelling- house of Mrs. Davis, Rodwell, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : A garnet Brooch, in form of Maltese cross. A garnet and pearl Brooch, with hair. A Bracelet, with carbuncle drops. A garnet and pearl Brooch, with hair. A gold Bracelet, with carbuncle drops. A gold Maltese Brooch, like two drops. A gold Ring, garnet and pearl, set like three forget- me- nots. A gold Ring, with black stones and grey hair, ' C. D.' on back. A mourning Brooch, with pearl forget- me- not,"' Horsfall' on back. A cameo and gold Pin. A carved coral Brooch, set iu gold. A silver Heart to hook on a bracelet, bent. A gold linked Bracelet. A strong gold Chain, with three Lockets and Cross attached, one locket with likeness of a lady and gentleman. A gold Vinaigrette, with ' E. B.' on top. A pearl Cross, set in gold, small diamonds in it. A pearl Brooch, with hair and pearls, ' Sarah Ellary' on back. A painted Brooch, bunch of fruit. A gilt Chain, with clasp. A gold Ring, set in pearls, rubies, and emeralds. Several Paintings of Indian temples on ivory, for brooches. A round gold Locket, ' J. B.' on back. A small Indian gold Chain. Supposed by two men of the following description, who were seen close to the house about 6' 30 p. m. : one about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, light complexion, light hair, no whiskers, a very large tuft of sandy hair on chin; dressed in a new grey overcoat, brown cap, and light trousers : the other about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, well built, and is very talkative ; dressed in dark clothes. £ 15 reward will be paid for the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Super- intendent Vickery, Guildhall, Weymouth, Dorsetshire. - Bow- street, September 13. Between 8' 30 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Christopher Walker, of Low Farm, in the township of Appleton- upon- Wiske, was entered by forcing open a window, during the absence of the family, and the following articles stolen : an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, No. 4708, Wm. Marshall, London, and a paper in outer case, with the name ' Thompson Cade, Northalleiton, 5th March, 1866,' had attached a double- liuked steel Chain, with three Cents and a Farthing at the end, £ 2 in Gold, two Half- crowns, two Florins, and 2s. in Silver, and 3d. in Copper. A man of the following description, who was seeu begging near the house on the morning of the robbery, is suspected : from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light hair and whiskers round face, short beard ; dressed in an old dark vest over a harden slop, black billycock hat with high crown and narrow brim, cord trousers, strong boots, and carried a coat over his arm ; had the appearance of a tramping labourer. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton- on- Tees, or to Sergeant Kitching, Police Office, Yarm, Yorkshire, — Bow- street, September 13. During the night of the 5th or morning of the 6th inst., the dwelling- house of Mr- A. G. Winham, Fore- street, Hertford, was entered by a back window, and the following articles stolen therein : a silver Table Spoon, marked R. H. T.'; two silver Tea Spoons, marked ' AJ ; a silver Salt Spoon; a Caddy Spoon ; a pair of patent leather dress Boots ; a blue cloth Overcoat with black velvet collar; a brown cloth Overcoat with velvet collar, marked inside ' A. J. W.', and a small hole near one of the side pockets. £' i reward will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the stolen property. Information to be given to Head Constable Jarrett, Police Office, Hertford.— Bow- street, September 11. Between 1 and 7 p. m. on the 31st ultimo, the dwelling- house of George Wilson, of Kiddermore Green, in the parish of Brewood, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein: a dark blue ribbed Coat, with pockets on the hips, with Yest of the same material, both nearly new ; a pair of woollen cord Trousers, new ; a pair of dark cloth Trousers, intermixed with a light spot, with puce and white braces attached ; a black cloth Vest, single- breasted ; and an old- fashioned verge Watch, ' Rotherham, Yorkshire,' engraved on the inner case. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Sergeant Barrett, Penkridge, or to Police Constable McCusker, Brewood, Staffordshire— Bow- street, September 6. Stolen by means of burglary, during the night of the 4th instant, at Sevenoaks, Kent, from a laundry: a muslin Petticoat, a ditto, with tucks, a plain ditto, two embroidery ditto ; two large linen Table Cloths, each one about 5 yards long and yard wide, marked ' K. D. H.;' two linen Sheets, marked ' K. D. H.' in black ink; some white Shirt Collars, white Cravats, white linen Pocket- handkerchiefs, and a Chemise ; all wet when stolen. Information to be given to Sergeant Pope, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, September 6. AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Brimscombe, in the parish of Rodborough, on the night of the 6th instant: a dark brown half- bred Mare, 3 years old, 14 hands high, star on forehead, hind feet white, has a small lump on the near fore leg, a little above the knee, short tail, has two girth marks behind the shoulders, and is in good working condition ; the property of Mr. James Hyde. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hanbidge, Stroud, Gloucestershire.— Boxo- street, Sept. 15. Stolen from Lavenham on the night of the 4th, or morning of the 5th instant, the property of Samuel Howe : a brown bay mare Pony, 12i- hands high, aged, brown legs, black mane and tail, a few white hairs on the back, marked ' T.' on the ne^ r side, and near side knee broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Schofield, Police Station, Box- ford, West Suffolk.— Bow- street, September 15. Stolen during the night of the 5th instant: a dark brown hackney Mare, aged, about 14J hands high, scar on both knees, near hind fetlock white, white saddle marks on back, short black mane and tail, and in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Holland, Police Station, Wed- nesbury, or to Police Constable Ellis, Police Station, Pelsall, near Walsall.— Bow- street, September 13. Stolen on tfl night of the Oth instant, at ijfeisi Peckham, the property of Henry Welfore : a dark brown cart Gelding, about 15 hands high, black mane, tail, and legs, rather rough about the legs, 10 years old, in good condition. By a young man with a dark coat, had a cart bridle on the horse ; the horse was traced into Old Kent- road, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Hulse, West Mailing, Kent.—• Bow- street, / September 11. Stolen on the 20th ultimo, from Cannock, Staffordshire, a brown mare Pony, about 12 hands high, long mane and tail, white mark on forehead, trips with hind feet, and had a red striped Rug on her back. Information to be given to Super- intendent Holland, Wednesbury, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 8. Stolen from a field at Sytch House Farm, Claverley, Salop, on the 26th ultimo, the property of Mr. William Richard Blewitt: ten Ewes, and eight Lambs, marked on left side with round ring and the letter ' B.' in centre, and red mark along the back, one ewe is marked with ' W. D.' as well as ' B.,' and all in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth ; or to P. C. ( 81) Merricks, Claverley, Salop.— Bow- street, September 8. Stolen on the night of the 20th ultimo, from the parish of Starston, Norfolk : a light bay mare Pony, 8 years old 13J hands high, white star on forehefd, white fetlock on near hind leg, and goes laiile on off hind leg from a spavin. Information to be given to Superintendent Ward, Police Station, Pulham, Harleston, Norfolk.— Bow- street, Sept. 6. Description of a man who gave the name of HARRY ANDREWS, charged with stealing a Horse and Dog Cart on the lst instant: about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light eyes, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers, and slightly bald on left side of head; dressed generally in a new light tweed suit of clothes ; of gentlemanly appearance ; has a black retriever dog with him. He is accompanied by a woman about 30 years of age, middle height, dark eyes, long flat nose, sallow complexion; and a man ( whom they called their groom), about 25 years of age, full face, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, small whiskers, and speaks quickly. The horse is grey, 13 hands high, 5 years old, branded with the lettle ' B' under saddle, and long tail; the cart is new, and painted dark green ( picked out with light green), the property of Mr. G. D. King, of Freemantle, near Southampton. They took an empty house at Freemantle, had it furnished by different tradesmen, then sold and pawned the goods, and absconded. Information to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary Station, Bitterne, who holds a warrant forthe apprehension of Andrews. •— Bow- street, September 6. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 11th instant, from a bedroom at Newington, Kent, the property of Richard Goodwin : an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, case very much worn, the glass cracked from figures 11 to 6, aud a short steel Guard attached. By a lodger, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ; dressed in cord trousers, white slop, blue guernsey, blue check shirt, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, September 15. Absconded from the borough of Shrewsbury, on the 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing an American Clock : THOMAS DAVIES, by trade a gasfitter or tinman, POLICE GAZETTE. September 15 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and small dark moustache ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, velvet collar, white slop, cord or moleskin trousers, bard hat, and red neckerchief. Description of JOHN HURST, charged at Stockport1 with stealing twenty yards of Calieo, since recovered, from a mill : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout, dark brown hair, and has lost his left arm to the shoulder ; he is a native of Stockport, and is supposed to have gone either to Bolton, Macclesfield, Oldham, or Poynton. Absconded from Basingstoke, charged on a warrant with stealing ( whilst being bailee), a new Carpet and a Hearth Rug : N. AUSTIN, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers, meeting under the chin, and has an impediment in his speech ; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat; has a large ' Newfoundland dog. A second man is in company with him, about 20 years of age, no whiskers, and dressed in light clothes ; he appears to be a son of the above, but passes as a servant ; and a woman, front 36 or 40 years of age, rather sallow complexion, and very peculiar eyes ; appears to be of good address, and passes as Austin's wife. Their habit seems a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money belonging to the Odd Fellows Society at Ashford, Kent, in the month | of February last : he is a coach builder, about 30 years of 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, very light hail', whiskers on sides of and is fond of singing. Description of FREDERICK LAIT and ANN BATE- SON, charged with stealiug a silver Watch ( since recovered), from a dwelling- house in the borough of Louth, oil the 24th ultimo : Frederick Lait is 25 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, cut on forehead; dressed in blue pilot coat, dark trousers, strong lace- up boots, and cheesecutter cap ; he is a coachbuilder by trade, and a licence- holder, No. 5302, was convicted of felony at Hull, June 29th, 1865, and sentenced to 7. years' penal servitude. Ann Bateson is 5 feet high, dark brown hair, lame of the left leg, and walks with a crutch ; dressed in light print dress, black velvet jacket, and grey duckskin hat. They are travelling together as man and wife, and it is supposed that Lait will seek employment as some ironworks.
