Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may hear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be Itrepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. Information to be Winchester, Hants. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of a man who committed a murderous assault on Sarah Deadman, aged 16 years, at Chiddingly, on the 31st ultimo : from 20 to 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionate figure, small light moustache and whiskers, and had the appearance of a stableman or groom ; dressed in short dark jacket, dark or dark grey trousers, and _ dark round- crowned hat. Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Wag- horn, Hailsham.— Bow- street, August 4. 5 rds., 13 pts.', No. on inside ' 1421.' given to Head Constable Hubbersty, — Bow- street, August 2. Stolen from the persons of different gentlemen at Good- wood Races : A gold hunting Watch, No. 61050, with gold face, and steel hands. £ 5 reward will be paid for the restoration of the watch. A large French gold Watch, very flat, set on three rubies, gold face, race- horse inside. A gold Watch, white dial, maker Lassiter, Arundel. A small gold Geneva Watch, very thin outside case, and gold dial ; also gold Guard Chain, with a small gold whistle at the end. Information to be given to Superintendent Pratt, County Police Station, Chichester.— Bow- street, August 2. Stolen on the 7th June last, from the person of Joseph Shaw, at Dean End, Kirkburton : a silver lever Watch, No. 6014, maker ' Russell, Huddersfield.' Supposed by a man of the following description : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, no whiskers, stout build; dressed in a dark jacket and fustian trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Hud- dersfield.— Bow street, August 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 31st ultimo, the residence of Mrs. Mary Gibson, of Woking, was entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a lady's gold Ring, set with cornelian; a lady's gold and blue enamelled Ring, with cross of pearls ; a small gold and blue enamelled Ring ; a large silver Cross, with black velvet ribbon ; a small gold Locket, with hair; a French Bracelet; a coralline Bracelet, Necklace, and pair of Pins ; and • a pair of gold Eye- glasses. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabu- Description of CHARLES COSFORD, shoemaker, late of East- street, Northampton, who is charged under the coroner's warrant with feloniously killing his wife, Ann Cosford : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers, no moustache, pale complexion, slight build, very upright; dressed in an old black billycock hat, brown cloth jacket with pockets at the sides, which are torn, and old militia trousers with the stripes cut out. In- formation to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Borough Police, Northampton.— Bow- street, July 28. FORGERY. Absconded from the borough of Derby on the 21st ult.: THOMAS STONE, chaiged with forging a name to a security, being a receipt for ,£ 800, by means of which James Young Stone obtained ,£ 400 : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, no beard or whiskers, dark brown hair, sallow complexion, high cheek hones, a deep scar on the right cheek, from the kick of a horse when a boy, quick in manners, rather slender build, has been a fish and poultry dealer. Also absconded from the borough of Derby, on the 21st ult.: JAMES YOUNG STONE, a butcher, charged with stealing the above Security, being a receipt for ,£ 800 : about 16 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair ; the day he absconded he drew ,£ 400 from the Bank, on account, £ 300 of it being in £ 5 Bank of England Notes. They were last seen together at Kings' Cross Station on the morning of the 22nd ultimo, having arrived hy the mail train from Peterborough. £ 20 reward will be paid on their apprehension within a month. Information to be given to Head Constable Hilton, Derby, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, July 26. ROBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Stolen from persons in the borough of Brighton, since the 31st ultimo : A silver hunting Watch, houses chased on outer case, maker's name and No. on inner case. A silver Geneva Watch. A gold open- faced English f- plate lever Watch, maker Adams, Cornbill, No. 5655, with long linked gold albert Chain attached, every link but one hall marked, 18- carat gold, with a common Key on the chain. A silver Geneva Watch, No. 60335, maker Bordier. A silver lever Watch, has a piece broken out of the face. A silver Geneva Watch, white dial. A large size gold Watch, duplex movement. A gold English Hunter, No. 3599, maker Weller Nichols, Croydon, has a small stain from a Forget- me- not, inside the case. Stolen frcm the person at Winchester Station, at 11 p. m. on the 18th ultimo; a double- cased silver hunting Watch, engraved on the outer case, ' Adjutants Prize, 1864,' and on the inner back plate, ' Won by H. M. Frith, at 300 yd Stolen between 7 p. m. on the 29tli and 8 a. m. on the 31st ult., from the premises of Mr. Jas. Lear, Birmingham : A 16- size gold hunter lever Watch, hollow back, sprung over ; a pair Jewel, gold balance, named James Lear and Co., London, 40178 and 50331 ; five ladies' engraved gold Watches, gold dials, levers, open face, named on movement James Lear and Co., London, Nos. 50760, 50758, 50759, 50743, and 50744 ; a gold hunter Watch, No. 26871, American case ( McCallum's) ; a gold lever Watch, No. 23775, spotted gold dial, dome case, name either Jackson or Johnson. Gold Watch Cases : a 16- size gold hunter Case, No. 50326, shield and garter, finished, engine- turned, ' J. Y.' in case; three 14- size hunter Cases only, finished, engine- turned, shield and garter, Nos. 50665, 50004, 50006 ; a 12- size gold hunter Case, 50837, middle only ; a ditto, ditto, 50731, case complete ; a 16- size ditto, ditto, 50873, engine- turned; six gold Cases only, Nos. 10, 3, 16, 14- size, initials ' R. H. J.' The gold of the above watches and cases is 18- carat. Silver Watches : a 12- size silver hunter Lever, expansion balance, named on dial and movement, James Lear and Co., London, 50645, 50649, 50652, 50648, 50646, 50647 ; a 14- size ditto, each 50446, 50583, 50632 ; a 16- size ditto, each 59644, 50333, 50635 ; a 12- size silver Hunter, 50721 ; six silver Hunters. All the silver watches named, James Lear and Co., London. Silver Cases : ( four 16- size, [ silver, 50870, 50869, 50871, 50872, middles only; an 8- size silver Hunter, middle only. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Moor- street, Birmingham.— Bow- street, August 2. Between 11' 30 a. m. and 7 p. m. on the 27th instant, some person or persons feloniously broke and entered the dwelling- house of Mr. James Edward Arthur, No. 62, Duke's Brow, Blackburn, and stole therein the following property : 2 lady's gold Necklets, one snake pattern, one link pattern. 4 pairs of gold Ear- rings, one drop pattern, one link pattern, two dead gold. 2 small gold diamond Pius, one with small emerald in centre, one with cameo head of Madonna. 1 lady's plain gold wedding Ring, much worn. 1 lady's plain gold keeper Ring, with the words ' Love the Giver.' 1 lady's plain gold mourning Ring, new. 1 plain gold hair Ring, set with pearls. 3 gold Lockets, one with hair device, one dead gold, set with turquoise, two photographs, one a gentleman, the other a lady, and one emerald, to contain six photographs. 4 gold Brooches, one with jet edges, two small plain pattern, one containing the photograph of a lady and gentleman. 1 Bracelet, mounted in dead gold, with brown hair. 2 jet Bracelets. 1 set of gold Studs, masonic. 1 gold watch Seal. 2 small silver Pencilcases, one a key pattern. 1 fruit Knife, tortoiseshell handle and silver blade. 3 fourpenny Pieces. 4 threepenny Pieces. Some old silver Coins, one with monogram ' B. M.,' one marked one fourpenny piece of the reign of King William IV. 1 silver verge Watch, double cases, old- fashioned, lettered ' William Weare' round dial in place of figures. Whoever will give such information as may lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, will receive £ 2 reward, on application to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 31. On the afternoon of the 27th instant, a dwelling- house in Ashton- under- Lyne, was broken into, and the following- property stolen therein : a lady's plain black silk velvet Jacket, new, with two buttons in front on each side, lined in front with silk and in back with alpaca; a white diaper Towel with fringe, and a red stripe at each end; and two old- fashioned gold Seals, one has the initials ' J. J.' in old English. By a man of the following description, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, full featured, sandy hair, and a tuft of hair at the end of his chin ; dressed in black cloth coat, brown cloth trousers, billycock hat, and shoes, of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Town Hall, Ashton- under- Lyne.— Bow- street, July 31. About 4 p. m. on the 29th instant the house of Mr. George Idle, of Broxbourne, Herts, was entered, and a Plate Basket stolen therein containing 6 Dessert Spoons, 9 Tea Spoons, 2 Table Spoons, and 1 Sauce Ladle, all silver ; also 2 Dessert Spoons, 4 large Forks, 8 small ditto, 2 Salt Spoons, a pair of Nut Crackers, all plated ; some with crest a Tiger, and some marked ' A. N.' Supposed by a man and woman who were hawking pictures. The man was seen coming from the house, and gave the woman a basket, who was waiting outside with a horse and cart, and they afterwards drove off in the direction of London. The man was short; dressed in black coat, dark trousers, and black felt hat ; the woman wore a crape bonnet, waterproof cloak, and sometimes a paisley shawl. The cart was painted dark green, with a dark bay cob, and brass mounted harness. Information to be given to Sergeant Prunett, Hodaesdon, or to Superintendent Bygrave, Ware, Herts.— Bow- street, July 31. Between 2 and 8 p. m. on the 26th instant, Wavendon Lodge, Fenny Stratford, was brokfen and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a silver opened- face lever Watch, capped and jewelled, gold figures, No. 41378, a black silk Guard attached ; a black leather Purse, containing two Sovereigns, a Half- Sovereign, and about 10s. in Silver money, the property of Mary White, of Wavendon End. Supposed by two tramps ( who were seen begging at Wavendon End at 3' 30 p. m. the same day) one of whom has since been apprehended, but none of the stolen property found on him. The other who is still at large, and is supposed to have the stolen property in his possession, is 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, full broad face, stout built, dark whiskers, and of gipsy appearance; dressed in a brown vest and trousers, no coat, but may have purchased one since, blue striped check sliirt, and billycock hat. Has been employed at the London Water Works Company, for the past 8 years, and supposed making for London. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedley, Fenny Stratford, Bletchley, Bucks. — Bow- street, July 31. Between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 25th instant, the house of Mr. William Garfit, of Leven Bank, in the parish of Yarm, Yorkshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about 5 lbs. of uncooked Bacon ; five yards of very dark grey Cloth, two and a half yards of drab cashmere Cloth and Trimmings for a suit. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary Office, South Stockton; or to Sergeant Kitching, Police Station, Yarm.— Bow- street, July 31. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of WALTER TREDWELL, charged with stealing three Horses at Winchcomb Fair, on the 28th ultimo, the property of Mr. Thos. Cull: he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers shaved off; dressed in dark clothes and bowler hat, has the appearance of a pugilist. One horse is recoverd, the other two ( bay horse and bay mare, aged,) are sold to Arnold Smith, a gipsy, who is supposed to be working his way towards Lansdown, near Bath, to attend the fair. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, or to Sergeant Tanner, Winchcomb, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, August 4. Stolen on the 19th ult., from a Paddock, on the side of the Turnpike Road, leading from Monmouth to Hereford, in the parish of Dixton, and about one mile distant from Mon- mouth : a dark mouse- coloured Pony, aged, supposed about 12 hands high,' B' ou left side ; the property of Mr. Breaknell, of the Buckholt Mill, who will pay £\ reward for its recovery, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Head Constable Wheeldon, Monmouth Borough Police, Monmouth.— Bow- street, August 2. Stolen from a field at Gruts Green, West Bromwich, on the night of the 26th ultimo: a dark brown mare Pony, 6 years old, 12| bands high, cut bang tail, small burn mark on right thigh ; the property of Mr. James Gordon. Infor- mation to be given to Sergeant Smith, Gruts Green, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 2. The light- coloured mare Donkey, stolen from Edward Dunce, of Shotten Mill, on the night of the 17th instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th instant, has been r ' recovered, and JOSEPH MATHEWS, a gipsy, is charged with stealing the same : he is about 60 years of age,# bout 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in a brown frock, cord trousers, dark billycock hat, all old, and sometimes wears an . old pair of leather gaiters. He at the time of committing the offence, had his nose strapped with strapping, owing to a blow from fighting. Information to be given to Superintendent Bray, West Sussex Constabulary, Midhurst, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bflw- straqt, Jviy 31. Stolen from a field near Thirsk on the night of the 25th instant: a yellow bay Horse, 15 hands 2 inches high, 6 years old, square tail, scar on shin, supposed on fore leg, and in good condition, the property of Mr. William Rose, cattle dealer. £ 2 reward will be paid on apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders. The horse was traced through Hutton toll- bar, near to Ripon. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, Constabulary Office, Northallerton, or to Inspector Smith, Constabulary Office, Thirsk, Yorkshire:— Bow- slreet, July 31. Stolen from a field at Bloxwich, near Walsall: a light brown Horse, aged, 14 hands high, white star on forehead, near hind fetlock white, and switch tail. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Police Station, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 28. ( Absconded from Weston- Super- Mare, charged with embezzling several sums of Mouey received on account of Mr. Phillips, wine merchant: HENRY B. Stolen from a cottage at Burghill: a velveteen Jacket, ; with a hole burnt in left skirt, a dark cloth ditto, two Vests, two pairs of grey Trousers, a pair of men's light lace- up Boots, his master, | m and about £ 4 in Gold aud Silver. By a tramping shoemaker, VAUGHAN, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches hi<* h supposed from Abergavenny, 18 years . of age, about 5 feet ligh hair, fresh complexion, slight figure, aud of good address; 8 . inches high, fair complexion, small iwoajstache ; supposed to • dressed in high hat, black cloth jacket, check vest, and light be dressed in the stolen property, as he left his own clothes j striped trousers ; is a native of Bridgwater, Somerset, and LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Hastings on the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing 19 Ostrich Feathers, the property of James Notcutt, also a quantity of other Feathers, the Goods of several other persons: a man who gave the name of REGINALD ALLEN, a travelling feather cleaner, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in a dark coat, with some braid in front, which has been repaired, black vest, striped mixture trousers and black felt hat ; had with him two pasteboard boxes, one white and one green, contain- ing the stolen feathers. He stated that he was a native of Manchester, but known the in neighbourhood of Wardour- street, Princes- street, and E< 1 ward- street, Solio, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- strest, Auqust 4. Absconded from tbe borough of Lyniington on the 24th instant : THOMAS JOHN PRESTON, a solicitor's clerk, charged with stealing on the 24th of April, £ 39 6s. 6d., the property of his employers, Edward Horatio Moore, Francis Walsingham St. Barbe, and Edwin Jackman : he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, black hair, round face, no whiskers or moustache, very dark teeth, walks lame, carries a stick, and turns right foot out in a peculiar manner; dressed in dark clothes, and has a light- coloured macintosh and black carpet bag with him. Information to be given to Superintendent Cook, Hants Con stabulary, Lyndhurst, or to Sergeant Brinson, Hants Consta- bulary, Lyniiugton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, Auqust 4. Absconded on the 21st ultimo, charged with stealing £ 170, public money : a man, late lance- sergeant 3rd battalion Grenadier Guards, 28 years of age. 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light curly hair, cut short, slight moustache; supposed dressed in black frock coat, dark mixture trousers, aud high black hat. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard.— Metropolitan Police, August 4. Absconded from London, on the 20th ultimo : LADISLAS JASIENSKI, late member of the Polish Benevolent Society in London, and supposed to have gone to Paris, with the Money and Documents of the Society. Information to be given to the Secretary of the Society, 504, Oxford- street, London, or at the Police Station, Bow Street. — Bom- street, August 4. Description of a man called HENRY, a tramping chim- ney sweep and tinker, who is charged on a warrant with stealing nine sweep Rods, two sweep Brushes, and Cloth, from Jane Williams, of Newtown, on the 27th ultimo : he is about 40 years, of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light hair cut short, sandy whiskers, and light moustache ; dressed in a black low crowned silk hat, white cloth jacket or slop, dark vest, old dirty moleskin or cord trousers, and check shirt ; states he is a native of Swansea, and is in the habit of working as a tin- m in in that town, and is well known to the Police. Infor- m ition to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 2. Description of JOSEPH PERKIN, a traveller, charged with embezzlement: he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender made, light complexion, slight moustache, nose a little turned up, swings his arms very much when walking ; dressed in a blue mixed tweed suit, and black silk hat. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 2. Description of JOHN RINDER, a contractor, charged with stealing above £ 700 : he is 44 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 11 inches high, ruddy and spotted face, grey hair and whiskers, aud is respectably dressed. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Augiist 2. Stolen on the morning of the 31st ultimo, from John Gatherco'ie, a miner, of Guisbro', North Riding of Yorkshire, a puce, black, and white plaid woollen Shirt. By a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexiou, light hair ; dressed in a dark cloth cap, old dark cloth coat aud vest, cord trousers patched on the knee, and old cossack boots ; he deserted from the Army a few weeks ago, has with him a cream- coloured bulldog, much bitten about the head, and said he was going in the direction of the wolds. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Prest, North Riding Constabulary, Guisbro'.— Bow- street, August 2. Description of MARTIN GEORGE NOCHOLDS, charged on a warrant for embezzling £ 200, at Holycross, Waltham, Essex ; is 45 years of age, 6 feet high, fair com- plexion, brown hair and whiskers ; usually dressed in a light mixture suit, and black hat. The wife resides at No. 3, Maud Villas, Gurney- road, Stratford. Warrant at Vine- street Police Station.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, Julo 31. Absconded from Daventry on the 24th instant, charged with embezzlement: JOHN OWENS, a journeyman baker, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, dark complexion, black hair and whiskers ; dressed in grey coat and trousers, nearly new, white vest, and tall silk hat; he stated he was a native of Birkenhead. Information to be given to S. Royle, Borough Police Station, Daventry, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 31. behind. Description of DAVID SIM, charged with embezzle- ment at Leeds : is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, well built, fair complexion, very slight beard on chin, light brown hair; dressed in brown coat, patched at the elbows, black vest, steel- grey mixture trousers, and billycock hat, or he . may be dressed in a black cloth suit; arms and fingers tattooed, very small teeth. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 31. Absconded from Whitburn, Linlithgowshire, on the 17th instant, charged with breach of trust and embezzlement : JOHN McLURE, native of Shoots, Lanarkshire, last residence Whitburn, about SO years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches high, long pimply face, fair hair, long fair whiskers, beard, and moustache, large prominent nose, high cheek bones, stout made, stoops slightly forward, and head goes from side to side in walking, has a long step, very reserved manner and sober, talkative when induced to speak, is fond of fiowers, birds, and bees, and spent money freely on fancy singing birds, soft spoken, hangs his head when speaking, does not look straight in the face, but side long, small grey eyes, intelligent, and well educated, greatly self taught; dressed in grey wideawake hat, blue or grey coat and vest, light striped tweed trousers, reversible topcoat, light grey on one side, and black glazed on the other, wears a gold locket attached to a gold albert from button hole to left breast, has a gold watch, and sometimes wears a gold guard.
