Description of CHARLES COSFORD, shoemaker, late of East- street, Northampton, who is charged under the coroner's warrant with feloniously killing his wife, Ann Cosford : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers, no moustache, pale complexion, slight build, very upright; dressed in an old black billycock hat, brown cloth jacket with pockets at the sides, which are torn, and old militia trousers with the stripes cut out. Brighton, on the morning of the 17th instant: a Purse, containing a diamond Ring, eleven stones, one of them at the end i. ot a brilliant, and a small chip on another, set in Silver; an old Ring of 12 line pearls, square setting; two small Guards, one of them plain, aud the other has been broken and mended; a Ring, with square opal stone ; a square tartan stamp Case, lined with crimson silk, and several memoranda, & c. Stolen from the person on the 15tli instant, at Seamer Fair : a silver patent lever Watch, plain white dial, steel, pointers, seconds hand broken off, No. 8881, maker Matthew Bradshaw, Liverpool. Information to be given- to Superintendent Jonas, North Riding Constabulary, or to Inspector Ryder, Falsgrave, Scarborough, Yorkshire.— B'ow- st., July 19. On the night of the 14th instant, Robert Pybus, groom to H. Lawson, Esq., of Gatherley Castle, - was stopped on the highway near to Catterick Railway Station, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, and robbed of a silver albert watch Guard, plain link pattern, and bad a small foreign Coin attached. By two men who had tbe appearance of tramps, 01) 2 was much taller than the other, the tall man having hair about the face, and both dressed in dark clothes. ' blue marks on the face ; dressed in a grey tweed waterproof cloak, old brown stuff dress, black straw hat, and i-.- w elasticside boots ; is of dirty appearance, can speak bom English and Welsh, and has relatives living at Dowlaisand Rhymney, Glamorganshire. How- street, July 17. mation to be given to Sergeant Fisher, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, July 24. During the night of the 20th or morning of the 21st instant the dwelling house of P. Irvine, Esq., J. P., East Burnham, Bucks, was entered, and the following articles stolen therein : an Indian ivory Work Box, about 14 inches long, aud about 10 inches wide, has the appearance of a tea caddy; an Indian ivory Knitting Box, inlaid with silver, about 12 inches long and 4 or 5 inches wide ; an Indian sandlewood Knitting Box, about 12 inches long and 4 or 5 inches wide, with elephant on top; a silver Snuff Box, with initials ' P. J.' and crest, a hand holding two olive branches ; a silver Card Case, broken ; an Indian silver watch Guard with very fine links ; a small silver Key ; a Stereoscope and Box ; a small glass Letter Weight; a quantity of Mother- ofpearl Indian Counters ; and a small carved ivory Card Case. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, Buckinghamshire.— Bow- street, July 24. On the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Edward Thomas, Shavington Park Lodge, Dodcott- cum- Wilksley, near Nantwich, Cheshire, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : a black cloth Coat, with velvet collar ; a black Vest; a pair of dark Trousers ; a pepper- andsalt- coloured sac Coat, bound with black braid, and drabcoloured butjons; and an old black silk Skirt, plaited at bottom. By a man, 26 or 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexion, light hair cut short, rather long > features, small light moustache, and slightly pockmarked; j dressed in a light grey coat, black vest, light grey trousers, light boots, and low hard felt hat. They were last seen together at Kings' Cross Station on the morning of the 22nd ultimo, having arrived by the mail train from Peterborough. £ 20 reward will be paid on their apprehension within a month. In addition to the property stolen from the house of Mr. Joseph Gallimore, and reported in the Police Gazette of the 17th instant, is a silver Medal of the United Society of Patriarchs of Great Britain and Ireland, with four hands joined, and motto, ' Justice and Truth.' Stolen from the person at Dover on the 24th instant : an old- fashioned gold lever Watch, maker, Keppix, engine- 1 handle, white metal mounting, and three blades, large blade Between 12 o'clock midnight on the 22nd and 7 o'clock on the morning of the 23rd instant, some person or persons burglariously entered the dwelling- house of Mr. Richard Sharpies, No. 18, Richmond- terrace, Blackburn, and stole therein : a £ 10 Bank of England Note, dated January, 1870 ; £ 20 10s. in Gold, 10s. in Silver, and 6d. in Copper Money ; a Pocket- book, with four or five pouches, maroon leather, fastens with an attached elastic band, and is torn at one corner, containing bills and other papers with owner's name, also the name of Daniel Rooney ; a Pocket- knife, white bone turned case, and much worn. Information to be given to Head Constable Coram, Police Station, Dover, Kent.— Bowstreet, July 26. Description of THOMAS PULLEN, who is charged on a warrant, with another man in custody, with stealing a cask of Beer, at Tidenham, the property of the Forest of Dean Brewery Company, on the 13th instant. He is from 38 to 40 years of age, about 6 feet high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache; dressed when last seen in an old brown cloth coat and vest, old brown trousers with dark 2 F O L I C E G A Z E T T E. Description of JOHN" BELLAIRES, charged at Bradford, with larceny : 17 years of age, 5 ft. 4 ins. high, blue eyes, pale complexion, dark brown curly hair, an engine tenter, and formerly lived at Thornton, Yorkshire ; dressed in black cloth coat, dark cloth trousers and vest, black billycock hat, and elastic- side boots. Absconded on or about the 4th instant, front Lpijer Gornal, Sedgley, charged with embezzlement: FREDERICK WILLIAM WEBSTER, about 25 years of age, 9 feftf7i infches high, dark brown hair, rather curly, brown eyes, fresh COJU plexion, sandy whiskers and moustache tinged with grey, ana a small scar under the left eye ; dressed in a suit of brown Oxford mixture, black billycock hat, and boots tipped to imitate clogs; walks with a quick step. Information to be given to Inspector Tomlinson, Police Office, Sedgley, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Sow- street. and black scarf shawl rounded oil July 28. Absconded from Weston- Super- Mare, charged with embezzling several sums of Money received on account of his master, Mr. Phillips, wine merchant : HENRY B. VATJGHAN, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, ligh hair, fresh complexion, slight figure, and of good address; dressed in high hat, black cloth jacket, check vest, and light striped trousers; is a native of Bridgwater, Somerset, and was formerly a waiter at the Dighley Hotel, Sherbourne. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillbanks, Somerset Constabulary, Axbridge, or to Sergeant Hardwick, Weston- Super- Mare, Somerset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 28. A warrant is issued for the apprehension of HENRY ADAMS, who absconded on the 24th instant, from Mr. Morrish, baker. & c., Tunbridge Wells, charged with stealing several sums of money received at various times by him for, and on account of, his master Richard Morrish, amounting to about ,£ 40. He is about 15 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in a dark drab jacket, light trousers with dark stripes down the sides, and a brown holland steel brimmed hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, who hold3 the warrant. - Bow- street, July 28. Stolen from the ' Dolphin' public- house, at Stoke Hammond, on the evening of the 26th instant : a pair of grev cloth Trousers, dark stripes up the sides, fall fronts ; a double- breasted Waistcoat, one pocket inside and three outside ; a double- breasted Coat, pocket on each side and one inside left breast, in one o£ the pockets was a Bank Book, in which a deposit is entered for £ 4 10s., in the Bank of Northampton ; all of the same material ; a blue and white silk square Handkerchief ; a blue and white striped Necktie; a white Front, with two frills ; a box of Paper Collars ; a flag Basket, containing two Trowels, a lath Hammer, a Chisel, and a 2- foot Rule; the property of William La w, of Northampton, bricklayer. By a tramping bricklayer, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, and no whiskers ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, cotton cord vest and trousers, fustian pockets, with a rule pocket on right side. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedley, Fenny Stratford, Bletchley, Bucks.— Bow- street, July 28. Description of THOS. PETTINGER RICHARDSON, who absconded on the 21st instant, charged with stealing £ 120, the property of the Great Northern Railway Company, his masters: about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, moderate build, and slightly bow- legged, fair complexion, large grey eyes, face rather round with a little colour on cheeks, brown hair and whiskers, the later thick and short, no beard or moustache, has a cowlick on forehead ; dressed in black walking coat, dark mixed trousers and vest, high silk hat, and supposed side spring boots. Is in the habit of earring his left hand in the pocket of his coat or on his hip, drinks and smokes ; had with him when he absconded, a new brown leather portmanteau, and leather hat- case partly worn. A reward of £ 10 will be paid to any person who will cause the apprehension of the accused. Information to be given to R. Williams, the Company's Inspector of Police, King's Cross Station, London, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Metropolitan Police, Y Division, July 28. Absconded on the 25th instant, charged with stealing a silver Geneva Watch ' 738— B.' on works : a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion and hair, low forehead, slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark suit. - Metropolitan Police, C Division,\ July 28. Description of JOHN HARRISON, clerk, charged with embezzlement at Doncaster: he is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, which he wears all round his face ; has a small wen on his right cheek, slender built, and is a native of Hanley, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Astwood, West Riding Constabulary, DoncasWr, who holds awarrantfor his apprehension. — Bow- street, July 26. Description of HOWARD BARON, who has absconded from Brighton, charged with stealing £ 10, the property of Mr. John Nunn, by whom he had been employed as potman : about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers; dressed in a blue pea jacket, felt hat, and is slovenly abont the neck. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Police Station, Brighton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 26. Description of THOMAS DEAN, a traveller, who has absconded from Leeds, charged with embezzlement : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, moustache, and whiskers, rather ruddy complexion, has a slight weakness in his knees, a prominent nose, large forehead ; dressed in a grey suit and black silk hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wetherell, Town Hall, Leeds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 26. Absconded from Immingham on the 21st instant, charged with stealing in a dwelling- house, eight Sovereigns and two Half- sovereigns, the property of Charles Brant, his master : JOHN HENRY STARKIE, 18 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark sandy hair, blue eyes, freckled face, no whiskers ; dressed in brown cord or fustian trousers, dark plush vest, may be wearing an old dark cloth coat, a soft black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. Description of JOHN WHITE, charged with stealing from the dwelling- house of S. Stead, of Drighlington, on the 10th instant : one stuff Piece; one ditto dre3s Piece ; five cotton Handkerchiefs; £ 5 in Gold and Silver, and several other articles : is 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, eyes, and hair, and a blacksmith ; his last residence was at Drighlington, as a railway porter, moderately educated, stoutly built, and walks erect; dressed in grey cloth suit and black billycock hat.
