Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together witb the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Description of a man charged with utteriDg, on the 13th instant, a forged cheque for £ 15 10s., purporting to be drawn by Henry Green, upon the Old Bank, Oxford : he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, very sallow looking, dark wiry moustache, no whiskers; dressed in a suit of dark grey clothes, small black tie with cameo pin in it, and low- crowned hat. He obtained the following articles of jewellery from a shop with the forged chequa : a bright gold albert curb Chain, graduated from the centre, and stamped ' .9 carata carbuncle and gold suite of shirt- front Studs, sleeve Solitaires, and collar Stud, all the stones oval, and fitted in morocco case, lined with purple velvet ; and a flat uncoloured 18- carat gold signet Bing, cornelian store, in plain mount, and slightly engraved on shoulders. Information to be given to Head Constable Kershaw, Town Hall, Southport, Lancashire. — Bow- street, June 19. The man H. LEGARD, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant, charged with forgery at Reading on the 25th ultimo, has been apprehended and charged with com mitting similar offences in the city of London in the names of SIMPSON, MAY, and other aliases; he was brought up at the Guildhall, London, on the 14th instant, and remanded for one week.— Bow- street, June 16. Description of WILLIAM ALFRED ROBERTS, charged under warrant with having uttered a forged cheque for £ 62 lis., purporting to be drawn by Mr. Thomas Turner upon the Old Bank, Oxford : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair, moustache, and imperial, stiff build, scar under left eye ; dressed when last seen in melton coat and vest, dark striped trousers, and low- crowned hat; has been in America, is a native of Shipston- on- Stour, and was last seen in company with his brother, who until recently carried on business as a draper in Bewdley, Cradley, and Brierley Hill. £ 5 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to his apprehension, on application to the Head Constable, City Police, Worcester.— Bow- street, June 14. stolen : a dark grey cloth Coat, with two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, and bone buttons, man's size, nearly new ; a grey calico Shirt, plaited front, with pearl, buttons. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewich, or to Sergeant Gosling, Astbury, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 19. Stolen during the night of the 13th or early on the morning of the 14th instant, at Bronington, Flintshire, by means of housebreaking : an old faded black dress cut- away, Coat, with pockets in skirts behind and one in left breast, covered buttons; also two Umbrellas. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, June 19. Between 12 noon and 2 p. m. on the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Thos. Sumner, of Baddiley, near Nantwich, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dark grey tweed shooting Coat, two pockets outside and one inside left breast, minus the middle button in front ; a single- breasted Waistcoat and Trousers of the same material. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, County Police, Nant- wich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 16. Sometime during the night of the 12th or morning of the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Benjamin Moffat, of Audlem, near Nantwich, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : a man's blue pilot Over- coat, bound with braid, and dark buttons ; a pair of light knit worsted Stockings ; a white calico Shirt; eight Eggs ; about 2 lbs. of Beef ; and a pair of blucher Boots. Informa- tion to be given, to Supeiiatendent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 16. Between 6 p. m. and 8 p. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of a gentleman in Bowden was broken and en- tered, and an old- fashioned gold lever Watch with gold dial, makers T. & J. Oliphant, No. 7967, stolen therein. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Steen, Police Station, Altrincham, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 14. Between 11 p. m. on the 10th, and 6 a. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. J. Overton, of Sessov, near Thirsk, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a loaf of white Bread ; a loaf of brown Bread ; about Stolen from the Common, Molland, Devon, about 3 weeks since, five hog Wether Sheep, marked ' J. E.' on off and ' E.' on near side, top cut in near, and a split iu off ear, the pro- perty of Mr. John Elworthy, Gert Farm, Molland. Also six Sheep, marked ' J. C.' on near side, top cut in near, and a split in off ear, the property of Mr. John Cole, Bommertown Farm, Molland. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood, Devon Constabulary, South Molton.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen from an orchard at Hornmouth, on the night of the 7th instant, a dark mare Donkey, about 7 years old, blind right eye, which looks white, no shoes on, turns off hind leg out, and is in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, Kent County Constabulary, Cran- brook.— Bow- street, June 14. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, on the 13th instant, charged with stealing three £ 5 Notes, a gold Watch, & c. : a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, no whiskers, of respectable appearance, and has been a gentleman's servant. Information to be given at the Police Office, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, June 21. Stolen on the 16th instant, from a dwelling- house at Tunbridge Wells : three Sheets, two Blankets, a Counterpane, and two white Tablecloths, a portion of which has been recovered. By a man and woman who had been lodging in the house : the man is a tailor, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, thin face, dark hair, and a few dark , whiskers ; dressed in double- breasted black cloth ceat, buttoned close all the way down, and light or grey trousers. 1 The woman is about the same age; dark hair and eyes, and swarthy comp^ xion ; dressed in brown dress,. bl. Tii. 4t cloth jacket, and very small dark bonnet; carried a female infant, about 5 months old, dressed in a white or light cotton pelisse, and dark hood trimmed with blue ribbon. Information to. be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, Jnne 21. Absconded on the 17th instant, from the parish of West- 20 Cheese Cakes; part of a spice Loaf ; about 2 lbs. of Cheese; aflat cream Cheese ; a silver teaSpoon, marked ' O.;' a linen table Cloth ; a linen tea Cloth, marked ' 12 J. Over- ton ' in ink; a small cutty Pipe, amber mouth piece ; two bottles of currant Wine, in champagne Bottles. Supposed to be the same man who escaped from Knaresborough Lock- up on the morning of the 8th instant, and is well known in North and East Riding of Yorkshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Walmesley, Constabulary Office, Northaller- ton ; or to Inspector Smith, Constabulary Office, Thirsk.— Bow- street, June 14. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from a gentleman on the 12th instant, whilst at Ashbury Railway Station, near Manchester: a gold lever Watch, maker J. H. Hayes, Oldham, No. 9100, jewelled full with rubies, expansion balance, white dial, and small seconds hand. £ 5 reward will be paid on the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or oilenders, and recovery of the watch. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Oldham, or to Superintendent Bent, Old Trafford, Lancaster.— Bow- street, June 16. Stolen about 10 p. m. on the 10th instant, at. Dursley Cross, in the parish of Longhope, from the person of Robert Smith : an old- fashioned pair- case silver Watch, No. 1713, maker Edward Green, London ; also £ 1 16s. lOAd. in Silver and Copper Monies. Supposed by two tramps of the follow- ing description : one a tall man, light hair and whiskers, meeting under the chin; dressed in black cap, old dark coat, and corduroy trousers : the other shorter, dark hair, little or no whiskers, slight moustache ; dressed in low- crowued black hat, dark coat, old light cloth trousers, torn at the knee. During the night of the 16th, or morning of the 17th inst._ the dwelling- house of George Whitehurst, labourer, Astbury, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and the followiug property | Constabulary, Ashford.' HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Beechfield, Barnsley, Yorkshire, between the 18th and 19th instant, a dark brown mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, short teeth from eating out of a stone trough, has two lumps at the root of the tail, which is cut short, and is in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley. — Bow- street, June 21. Stolen between the night of the 15th and morning of the 19th instant, from Langbar Moor, in the township of Nesfield- with- Langbar, near Bolton- bridge : a chestnut horse Pony, aged, about 13| hands high, with long tail and mane turning grey, one of the hind fetlocks white, has a white spot and stripe on face, stands off on both forelegs, and is in rather low condition, the property of Edward Birkinshaw, of Blackhill House, farmer. Information to be given to Superintendent Grisdale, West Riding Constabulary, Skipton.— Bow- street, June 21. Description of a man charged with stealing ten Pigs, with which lie was entrusted to drive from Birmingham to Hurley, on the 15th instant, the property of Mr. George Wakefield, they have since been recovered : he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair and eyes, no whiskers, long thin face, with several grub pimples, and slender make ; dressed in hard black felt billycock hat, a light brown jacket, dark vest, cotton cord trousers, and strong lace- up boots ; he has the appearance of a tramping drover, and gives the names of SMITH and WALKER. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Aston, Birmingham. — Bow- street, June 21. Stolen from a field at Hall Royd, Silkstone, near Barns- ley, Yorkshire, on the night of the 16th instant : a darli , brown cart Mare, 3 years old, about 15 hands high, whit( - star on forehead, and a little white on one of the hind fetlocks : rather thick coat, and in good condition. Description of AMOS LEE, charged with stealing a " Horse at Wye on the night of the lst instant, which has since been recovered : 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, very dark complexion, black hair, whiskers shaved off; dressed in an old snuff coloured coat torn out at button- ., holes, old shoes slit at sides ; he belongs to the gipsy tribe. He is accompanied by a female, 37 years of age, 5 feet 4£ inches high, rather long features, brown soft hair, has a mole on right cheek under the eye, and wears elastic stockings in consequence of swollen legs; dressed in black silk dress, white or green bonnet, black veil, and velvet jacket. They are accompanied by four children, three boys, aged respectively 15, 11, and 4| years, and a girl, 13 years ; they are supposed to have in their possession between £ 100 and £ 200 iu cash, two watches, a plated tea service, and a large quantity of linen and clothing. They took tickets for London, but are supposed to have taken another route, and to be making their way to some port, with a view of sailing to America or Australia. £ 5 reward will be paid on their apprehension and recovery of the property. Description of EDWARD PALMER, a sweep, charged with embezzling several small sums of Money : 18 years oi age, 5 feet high, light complexion, and sharp nose ; dressed in white slop, dark waistcoat, with flannel back, cord trousers, cloth cap, with peak and bow in front ; he is a native oi Wolverhampton, and is known to the Police there. His mother is now living on the canal side at Monmore Green, near Wolverhampton. Information to be given to Chie: Sup rintendent Glossop, Moor- street, Birmingham, who holds a werant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 21. Absconded on the 13th instant, from Christian- street St. George's East, stealing £ 25 : a man, 25 years of age, 5 fee 6 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, small whiskers blue marks on arms and hand ; dressed in black c. oat, darl plaid vest, black and white striped trousers, side- spring boots red and white striped socks, two shirts, one magenta, on. flannel, and billycock hat; had with him two watches, on. gold, minute hand broken off, one silver, with steel Chaii attached.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, June 19. Information Description of JOHN JOHNSON, alias THOMSON ( names probably fictitious), remanded on a charge of uttering counterfeit Coin at Usk, on the 5th inst. : 32 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 7 inches high, very stout, strong built figure, fresh complexion, grey hair and eyes, slight scar on left eye and left side of nose, and has the appearance of a prize fighter. States that he has lived for some years in France and South America. His wife, who was with him, is a stout, good- looking woman, of medium height, very fresh complexion, and rather small eyes; she travels with a box containing jewellery, & c. Description of a man who was in Usk on the 4th and 5th instant, and supposed to have been in company and acting in concert with the above man : name unknown, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, thick- set, dark complexion and hair, tuft of black hair on chin, no whiskers ; dressed in dark cloth coat, with pockets inside, and black billycock hat with soft crown ; had the appearance of a mechanic, and had with him a small carpet- bag, about 15 inches long, with a strong brass lock, supposed to contain counterfeit coin; he is a great talker, principally about towns and places he has visited, especially about Ireland, and represents himself as part owner of a show, travelling with a fat woman and a little man called ' Tommy Dodd ;' this show was in Usk on the 5th inst.
