C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded, PATRICK O'BRIEN, late of Farnworth, charged with maliciously assaulting a Police Constable at Farnworth, near Bolton, Lancashire, 011 the 15th instant : he is 30 to 32 years of age, but looks younger, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, rather dark, very red on the cheek bones, black hair, brown eyes, no whiskers, of smart appear- ance, and walks very erect; he is a temperer of clay in a brickyard ; dressed in blue pilot monkey jacket, dark cloth trousers and vest, and cloth cap : his wife and family are living at Famworth. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Holland, Town Hall, Little Bolton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 19. Charged with Stabbing Henry George Hunt, potman at ROBBERY AID LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Mr. Thomas Lewis, of Wistan- stow, Shropshire, on the night of the 15th instant, whilst returning from Church Stretton fair in a state of drunken- ness : a £ 20 Bank of England Note, indorsed on the back ' Thomas Jones, Salop;' four Sovereigns, ancl a Half- sovereign, all in washleather Bag with two compartments and a reeving string round the top. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Lewis upon the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, Salop.— Bow- street, May 22. Stolen from a gentleman on Salisbury Race Course on the 18th instant: a gold Watch and Chain, twisted, with a gold American Dollar at the end, the initials ' M. J. M.' on back of case ; a silver Watch, with gold Chain and Locket, maker Carter, Salisbury ; and a small silver Geneva Watch. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Fisherton, Salisbury.— Bow- street, May 19. On the 12th instant, Ellen Barber was robbed of a Purse and 7s. 6d. in Silver, on the highway, Wooler, Northumber- land : by a man 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair, ginger whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark brown frock coat, and of dirty appearance. Y AND HOUSE During the night of the 18 th instant, the dwelling- house, No. 24, Calverley- park, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a silver Dessert Spoon and two silver Tea Spoons, crest— a mailed hand holding an arrow, supported by a crown, with motto, ' Quondam his vicinus armis ;" a small silver Sugar Spoon, in the form of a leaf ; and a round brass Clock, about 4 inches across. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. — Bow- street, May 22 Between 12 midnight 15th, and 5 a. m. on the 16th inst., the dwelling house and shop of William Birchenougn, grocer, Market- street, Crewe, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about 5s. in Silver and Copper, from the drawer; about 1 lb. of. Tobacco, 1 lb. of Biscuits, and half a dish of the Black Boy public- house, Whitecross- street, a man 22 years j Butter, from the shop ; a pair of elastic- side Boots, half worn, of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, red hair, grey eyes, pug nose ; dressed in black frock coat, cord trousers, plaid scarf, and felt hat. Known in the neighbourhood.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 17. had been soled, heeled, aud toe- capped, the sole of one has been sprung and fastened with two sprigs, a meerschaum Pipe and dark green Case, from the sitting room. Evans, of Narberth, situate at Captain ^ German ditta Supp^ ed byatall man, with'dark Stile, near that town, was set on fire and destroyed. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by a Committee of tlie inhabitants of Narberth, and a further sum of £ 100 is offered by Her Majesty's Government, for such information as may lead to the apprehension. and conviction of the offender or offenders, who set the said rick on fire. And Her Majesty's principal Secretary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any any accomplice ( not being the actual incendiary), who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Superintendent Evans, Pembroke, or to Chief Constable Stokes, Police Office, Haverfordwest.— Bow- street, May 15. The greenhouse or conservatory at Chirk Castle, the residence of Col. Biddulph, the Lord Lieutenant of the county of Denbigh, was blown up with gunpowder or some other explosive material, on the night of the 15th or morning of the 16th March last, the explosive material was contained in a japanned oblong tin cannister, such as is used for storing tea, on the bottom of the cannister in the centre is a figure ' 3' indicating a 3 lb. size, there has been a retail private, or selling mark, also on the bottom near one corner ' M. 7,' written with a pointed instrument, but had been partially erased previous to the explosion. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of a free pardon to any person or persons ( not being the principals or instigators) who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the said principals or instigators of the above offence. £ 200 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Den- bighshire.— Bow- street, May 15. FORGERY. Absconded on the 15th instant, from No. 53, St. Leonard's Boad, Bromley, Middlesex, charged with stealing three Cheques for forty- two pounds seventeen shillings, and forging a Bill of Acceptance for Thirty- two Pounds: a surgeon's assistant, 40 yrs. of age, 5 ft. 7 ins. high, ruddy complexion, bald, dark hair, wdiiskers, and moustache ; dressed in black coat, vest, and trousers, and high black hat.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, May 19. whiskers, dressed in dark clothes and silk hat; and a short man, with light moustache, no whiskers, and dressed in dark clothes and low- crowned hat; they called at the houses in the neighbourhood, showing dress patterns, and stated that their van was coming behind, which was false. Information to be given to Inspector Harris, Henley- in- Arden, Warwick- shire.— Bow street, May 15. On the morning of the 7th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Elizabeth Wilcocks, Wribbenhall, near Bewdley, was entered by means of a false key, and five small silver Tea Tea Spoons, marked ' A. | B. M.,' and twelve ditto, larger size, marked ' S. 1 E. W.,' were stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Wor- cestershire.— Bow- street, May 12. During the night of the 7th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, of Lower Walton, Cheshire, was broken into and stolen therein : an old- fashioned gold Watch, capped and jewelled, gold dial, had attached an old fashioned gold Guard Chain, much worn, a small gold Key, four bits of glass round the barrel, and a square gold ditto ; a gold Bing, set with one diamond ; a gold Keeper Bing, marked round with cuts ; a large gold Brooch, white glass in centre, the pin bent a little at the end ; a pair of old- fashioned Sugar Tongs, marked ' jJjLand a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots, recently heeled, and have been stitched outside the heels with black cotton ; a new black cloth Jacket, with a pocket outside each skirt; a new pair of black cloth Trousers; a new black cloth Yest, boy's size ; and a blue plaid bundle Hand- kerchief. £ 10 10s. reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Aston, Runcorn, or to Sergeant Morris, Stockton Heath, near Warrington. — Bow- street, May 12. HORSE AND CATTLE, STEALING. Stolen on the 17th instant, from outside Knightsbridge Barracks : a Horse and Gig, the horse a brown mare, 15 hands 1 inch high, white mark on near side, round shoe on near forefoot, leather pad under ; the gig black, with a brown Coat, Bug, two Cushions, and Whip inside. By a man, short and stout; dressed in light brown overcoat, wideawake hat, had the appearance of a stableman.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, May 22. Stolen between the 9th and 15th instant, from Glandulas Rhos, Llangurig, the property of Mr. Robert Edwards, a dark chestnut mare Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, rough coat, in low condition, long tail, and without shoes ; a light chestnut mare Pony, 2 years old, about 11 hands high, long tail, and has not been shod; and a dark bay yearling mare Colt, about 10 hands high. Information to be given at the Chief Con- stable's Office, Newtown, or to Sergeant Owen, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire.— Bov:- street, May 22. Stolen from a field at Little Bromwich on the 13th instant: a brown mare Pony, 6 years old, 13 hands high, marked with ' H' under mane, long tail. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Super- intendent Gallaway, Constabulary Station, Aston, Birming- ham.— Bow- street, May 22. Stolen during the night of the 30th ultimo, from a field at Cefnllan Llandyssil, the property of Mr. Richard Burd, a thorough bred brown Mare, 14 hands high, 3 years old, black legs, mane, and tail, and has not been shod. Information to be given to Police Officer Thomas, Montgomery.— Bow- street, May 22. Stolen during the niglit of the 18th instant, from a stable at Vigo, near Chester- le- Street, in the county of Durham, a black draught Horse, 10 or 11 years old, 16 or 17 hands high, white star on forehead, short tail, and fillet bone knocked off far side. Information to be given to Superintendent Squire, Durham Constabulary, County Police Station, Gateshead.— Bov>- stree', Mai/ 22. Further information respecting the white cob Gelding, as stolen from a stable at Mapledurham, Oxon, on the night of the lst instant, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, the property of Mr. W. Bullock : it is about 15 hands high, aged, small lump on near thigh from a kick, a mark behind off fore leg caused by the sear of a hot iron, and long bang tail; a set of light brass mounted Harness, breeching, reins and bellyband repaired with copper rivets ; also a dark green spring Cart, picked out with light green, ferrule and point broken off the off shaft, drawn from the axletree by chains, panel of tailboard recently repaired, high wheels with half- round tiers, ' W. B.' in gilt letters on each side, Collin's patent axles, maker ' Lewington, Beading,' on box of wheels. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Mr. W. Bullock to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, County Police Station, Oxford ; or to the Superintendents at any of the County Police Stations in Oxfordshire.— Bow- st., May 19. Stolen from Morwell Farm Marsh, Tavistock, Devon, about the 13th instant, the property of Mr. Richard Stevens: a grey roan horse Colt, 12 months old, about 14 hands high. Information to be given to Superintendent Pickford, Devon Constabulary, Tavistock.— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen about the 30th ult., from Mrs. Bird's, Llandyssil: a dark brown filly Pony, 3 years old, black legs, long tail, and has not been broken. Information to be given to P. C. Thomas, Montgomery, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown.— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen from Porkington- park, near Oswestry, Salop, on the 13tli instant: a bay horse Pony, 5 years old, about 12 hands high, and thick bang tail, the property of J. B. O. Gore, Esq. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Police Station, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, May 19. Fifty Pounds reward is offered by Mr. W. Bullock to any person or persons who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders who stole the Horse and Cart from Mapledurham, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant. Stolen from Walsall : a male Ass, dark colour, aged, cut on one ear. Information to be given to Head Constable Cater, Police Station, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., May 19. The iron grey cart Mare, stolen from Monk Frystone, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd November last, is supposed now to have a foal. £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery of the mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Wardle, West Biding Constabulary, Selby. — Bovi- street, May 17. Stolen from a field in the parish of Old Dally, Leicester- shire, between 11 a. m. on the 14th and 4 p. m. on the 15th instant : a light chesnut Horse, 3 years old, 14 hands high, white face, little white on the off fore foot, white near hind foot, switch tail, in fair condition. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Piatt, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, May 17. Stolen during the night of the 3rd instant from the Village Farm, Upton Warren, the property of T. D. Botteley, Esq.: two white- faced ewe Sheep, in the wool, the lambs have been recently taken from them, they are in good condition, and raddle- marked between the shoulders. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information that shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Absconded from Portsmouth, charged with stealing £ 5 : EMMA BIGGS, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, black bonnet, fetlock ; also a black, aged, cob Mare, clipped last winter, the property of Pryce Yearsley, Esq., who will pay a reward of £ 5 on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Strefford, Welshpool, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow street, May 15. Stolen on the night of the 6th instant, the property of George Pole : a light dun- coloured mare Pony, 12 hands high, 6 years old, short ears, dark mark down the back, black legs, mane, and tail, in good condition, and had a foul last year. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes; to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield; to Sergeant Avery, Court House, Mark Cross; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.- Bow- street, May 15. Absconded on the 12th instant, charged with stealing, from No. 26, Duke- street, Grosvenor- square, £ 45 in bank Notes, and a Bank- book, with the name ' Jacob Dege' inside, a collector : 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow com his hands shake ; dressed when last seen in light tweed trousers, stripe down the sides, brown velveteen jacket, round pole hat, and lace- up boots, when at work dressed as a navvy in white slop and heavy boots ; has been lately employed on the Torrington Railway works. He absconded on the 1st instant, and is supposed to be in some part of London ; he was in business in Liverpool as a watch manu- facturer on an extensive scale. Description of THOMAS GOODALL, who is charged with stealing £ 35 in Bank of England Notes on the 18th iust., and who left Brighton, at 4 p. m. oil that day : he is 45 years of age, broad set, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale face, dark curly 1 " 1 " 1 * _. l T. 1 , . .1 ~ t r\ W / IviYilr . rt v> Ac* r( Arl Absconded, charged with stealing from No. 65, Warwick- gardens, Kensington, in September last : ten Spoons, four table and six dessert; six large Forks, fiddle pattern, and all plated ; four silver Tea Spoons, crest— a dragon ; two mourn- ing Rings, one set with single diamonds, the other set with pearls ; nine Sheets, four linen and five cotton ; four damask Table Cloths, marked ' B' in ink. A female servant, 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, and stoops ; dressed in brown dress, black shawl, black lace bonnet, with pink flowers. Supposed to have gone to her husband who is employed as a clerk at Newcastle- on- Tyne, or one of the seaport towns on the coast of Scotland. — Metropolitan Police, T Division, hair and whiskers, blue eyes, and addicted to drink ; dressed May 17. « a naw7- Supposed to be . in company with another man. Absconded from Colchester, on the 1st instant, taking with him a number of silver Watches, entrusted to him to clean and repair : a watchmaker, who gave the name of W. ROSS, and who has resided at the Hythe, Colchester, since the 14th November last, he is about 55 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, very dark hair and whiskers, dark com plexion and eyes, stout build, good teeth, and has a large swelling on left side of neck, which causes him to carry his head on one side ; dressed in a black frock coat, black vest and trousers, and high black hat, and generally wears a white apron when out walking; he stated he was a native of London, and had worked a great deal in the City. He is accompanied by his wife, who is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, light brown hair, which curls all round, and fair complexion ; dressed in a brown linsey dress, black SMITH, 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh com- plexion, grey eyes, black hair, says he is a seaman, and a native of Paddington, London ; dressed in a blue witney reefing jacket, old blue guernsey, black cloth trousers, black cloth cap, and old blucher boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Metcalfe, Constabulary Office, Malton, — Bow- street, May 22. Description of a convict who left the parish of Tipton about the end of last month without reporting himself to the police : JOSEPH HUNT, No. 8049, was committed on the 26th November, 1864, at Westbromwich, for larceny, and convicted on the 2nd January, 1865, at the Stafford Sessions, and sentenced to seven years ; when discharged he was 26 years of age ;, is 5 feet 2j inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, giey eyes, long scar on forehead, left leg broken. Date. of discharge from Chatham Prison 12th October, 1870. Information to be given to Superintendent Mills, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.— Boa- street, May 22. Remanded at Portsmouth, until the 26th instant, charged with larceny from the person : JOHN JEFFERIES, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark hair, blue eyes, florid complexion, long face, high cheek bones, large nose, slightly pockpitted, two scars l ight side of face, and a scar right side of neck, cross, two angels, and an arm holding a - dagger, surrounded by a wreath on right arm, a sear from a cut, an anchor, and sword on left arm, large scar inside calf of left leg, and burn mark on same leg; dressed in black deerstalker hat, blue cravat, black coat, with velvet collar, double- breasted brown cloth vest, with black stripe, green plaid trousers, aud elastic- side boots. He says he is a native- of Dudley, and a wood turner by trade. He is supposed to< be known at Manchester, Birmingham, and Southampton. G.'; inside are two trays, the top one containing two glass Bottles, with silver tops, new ; the others are silver, also new, with filigree work, and in the centre of each top, crest— a talbot; the under tray contained a pair of ivory handle Razors, two pair of Scissors, maker— ' Beach, Salisbury'; the cover contained a Looking- glass and some Blotting- paper.
