CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. C. . *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. ' As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AMD MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded, PATRICK O'BRIEN, late of Farnworth, charged with maliciously assaulting a Police Constable at Farnworth, near Bolton, Lancashire, on the 15th instant : he is 30 to 32 years of age, but looks younger, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, rather dark, very red on the cheek bones, black hair, brown eyes, no whiskers, of smart appear- ance, and walks very erect; he is a temperer of clay in a brickyard ; dressed in blue pilot monkey jacket, dark cloth trousers and vest, and cloth cap : his wife and family are living at Farnworth. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Holland, Town Hall, Little Bolton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 19. Charged with Stabbing Henry George Hunt, potman at the Black Boy public- house, Whitecross- street, a man 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, red hair, grey eyes, pug nose ; dressed iu black frock coat, cord trousers, plaid scarf, and felt hat. Known in the neighbourhood.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 17. ROBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Stolen from a gentleman on Salisbury Race Course on the 18th instant: a gold Watch and Chain, twisted, with a gold American Dollar at the end, the initials ' M. J. M.' on back of case j a silver Watch, with gold Chain and Locket, maker Carter, Salisbury ; and a small silver Geneva Watch. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Eisherton, Salisbury.— Bow- street, May 19. On the 12th instant, Ellen Barber was robbed of a Purse and 7s. 6d. in Silver, on the highway, Wooler, Northumber- land : by a man' 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair, ginger whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark brown frock coat, and of dirty appearance. Information to be given to Superintendent Marshall, Lowick, Northum- berland.— Bow- street, May 17. Stolen from the person on the afternoon of the 5th instant, in Longwathty, near Penrith : a silver patent lever Watch, No. 5592 ; also one Half - sovereign; two Half- crowns ; a brass Tobacco Box ; and a nearly new white cotton Slop, torn on the back of collar. Supposed by two navvies, one 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, no whiskers or beard, brown hair, and stout figure ; dressed in moleskin trousers and waistcoat, white cotton slop, navvy boots, and imitation sealskin cap ; the other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark whiskers, chin shaved, dark hair, and slender figure ; dressed in moleskin trousers and waistcoat, grey woollen jacket, slender boots, and dark cloth cap, with leather peak. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, May 10. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of the 13th ultimo, a rick of Hay, the pro- perty of Dr. M. G. Evans, of Narberth, situate at Captain Stile, near tbat town, was set on fire and destroyed. A reward of ,£ 100 will be paid by a Committee of the inhabitants of Narberth, and a further sum of £ 100 is offered by Her Majesty's Government, for such information as may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, who set the said rick on fire. And Her Majesty's principal Secretary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any any accomplice ( not being the actual incendiary), who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Superintendent Evans, Pembroke, or to Chief Constable Stokes, Police Office, Haverfordwest.— Bow- street, May 15. The greenhouse or conservatory at Chirk Castle, the residence oi Col. Biddulph, the Lord Lieutenant of the county of Denbigh, was blown up with gunpowder or some other explosive material, on the night of the 15th or morning of the 16th March last, the explosive material was contained in a japanned oblong tin cannister, such as is used for storing tea, on the bottom of the cannister in the centre is a figure ' 3' indicating a 5 lb. size, there has been a retail private, or selling mark, also on the bottom near one corner ! M. 7,' written with a pointed instrument, but had been partially erased previous to the explosion. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of a free pardon to any person or persons ( not being the principals or instigators) wio shall give such evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the said principals or instigators of the above offence. £ 200 reward will be paid on conviction of foe offender or offenders. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Den- bighshire.— Bow- sireet, May 15. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 12 midnight 15th, and 5 a. m. on the 16th inst., the dwelling house and shop of William Birchenough, grocer, Market- street, Crewe, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about 5s. in Silver and Copper, from the drawer; about 1 lb. of Tobacco, 1 lb. of Biscuits, and half a dish of Butter, from the shop ; a pair of elastic- side Boots, half worn, had been soled, heeled, and toe- capped, the sole of one has been sprung and fastened with two sprigs, a meerschaum Pipe and dark green Case, from the sitting room. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Wood, Police Office, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 19. Between 3 and 4 p. m. on the lltli instant, the house of William Bartham, at Tamworth, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : £ 8 10s. in Gold, two silver Tea Spoons, and five German silver ditto. Supposed by a tall man, with dark whiskers, dressed in dark clothes and silk hat; and a short man, with light moustache, no whiskers, and dressed in dark clothes and low- crowned hat; they called at the houses in the neighbourhood, showing dress prdterns, and stated that their van was coming behind, which was false. Information to be given to Inspector Harris, Henley- in- Arden, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, May 15. On the morning of the 7th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Elizabeth Wilcocks, Wribbenhall, near Bewdley, was entered by means of a false key, and five small silver Tea Tea Spoons, marked ' A. | R. M.,' and twelve ditto, larger size, marked ' S. | E. W.,' were stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Wor- cestershire.— Bow- street, May 12. FORGERY. Absconded on the 15th instant, from No. 53, St. Leonard's Road, Bromley, Middlesex, charged with stealing three Cheques for forty- two pounds seventeen shillings, and forging a Bill of Acceptance for Thirty- two Pounds : a surgeon's assistant, 40 yrs. of age, 5 ft. 7 ins. high, ruddy complexion, bald, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in black coat, vest, and trousers, and high black hat,— Metropolitan Police, K Division, May 19. During the night of the 7th instant, the dwelliug- house of Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, of Lower Walton, Cheshire, was broken into and stolen therein : an old- fashioned gold Watch, capped and jewelled, gold dial, had attachod an old- fashioned gold. Guard Chain, much worn, a small gold Key, four bits of glass round the barrel, and a square gold ditto ; a gold Ring, set with one diamond ; a gold Keeper Ring, marked round with cuts ; a large gold Brooch, white glass in centre, the pin bent a little at the end ; a pair of old- fashioned Sugar Tongs, marked ' j? c ;' and a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots, recently heeled, and have been stitched outside the heels with black cotton ; a new black cloth Jacket, with a pocket outside each skirt; a new pair of black cloth Trousers ; a new black cloth Yest, boy's size ; and a blue plaid bundle Hand- kerchief. £ 10 10s. reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Aston, Runcorn, or to Sergeant Morris, Stockton Heath, near Warrington. — Bow- street, May 12. The cottage of William Page, of Saint Leonards, borough of Bridgnorth, was broken and entered between 3 and 7 p. m. on the 1st inst., and a silver Watch, No. 2768, £ 1, two Half- sovereigns, and 15s. stolen therein; supposed by tramps Information to be given to Head Constable Cole, Borough Police Office, Bridgnorth.— Bow- street, May 10. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Further information respecting the white cob Gelding, as stolen from a stable at Mapledurham, Oxon, on the night of the lst instant, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, the property of Mr. W. Bullock : it is about 15 hands high, aged, small Jump on near thigh from a kick, a mark behind off fore leg caused by the sear of a hot iron, and long bang tail; a set of light brass mounted Harness, breeching, reins and bellvband repaired with copper rivets ; also a dark green spring Cart, picked out with light green, ferrule and point broken off the off shaft, drawn from the axletree by chains, panel of tailboard recently repaired, hioli wheels with half- round tiers, ' W. B.' in gilt letters on each side, Collin's patent axles, maKer ' Lewington, Reading,' on box of wheels. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Mr. W, Bullock to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, County Police Station, Oxford ; or to the Superintendents at any of the County Police Stations in Oxfordshire.— Bow- st., May 19. Stolen from Morwell Farm Marsh, Tavistock, Devon, about the 13th instant, the property of Mr. Richard Stevens : a grey roan horse Colt, 12 months old, about 14 hands high. Information to be given to Superintendent Pickford, Devon Constabulary, Tavistock.— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen about the 30tli ult., from Mrs. Bird's, Llandyssil: a dark brown filly Pony, 3 years old, black legs, long tail, and has not been broken. Information to be given to P. C. Thomas, Montgomery, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown.— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen from Porkington- park, near Oswestry, Salop, on the 13th instant: a bay horse Pony, 5 years old, about 12 hands high, and thick bang tail, the property of J. R. O. Gore, Esq. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Police Station, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, Mo, y 19. Fifty Pounds reward is offered by Mr. W. Bullock to any person or persons who will give such information as will lead to tbe apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders who stole the Horse and Cart from Mapledurham, as advertised in the Police Gazette] of the 8th instant. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Owen, or to Superinten- dent Coates, Police Station, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon.— Bow- street, May 19. Stolen from Walsall : a male Ass, dark colour, aged, cut on one ear. Information to be given to Head Constable Cater, Police Station, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., May 19. The iron grey cart Mare, stolen from Monk Frystone, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd November last, is supposed now to have a foal. £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery of the mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Wardle, West Riding Constabulary, Selby. — Bow- street, May 17. Stolen from a field in the parish of Old Dally, Leicester- shire, between 11 a. m. on tbe 14th and 4 p. m. on the 15th instant : a light chesnut Horse, 3 years old, 14 hands high, white face, little white on the off fore foot, white near hind foot, switch tail, in fair condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Piatt, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.—- Bow- street, May 17. Stolen during the night of the 3rd instant from the Village Farm, Upton Warren, the property of T. D. Botteley, Esq.: two white- faced ewe Sheep, in the wool, the lambs have been recently taken from them, they are in good condition, arid ruddle- marked between the shoulders. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information that shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Bevan, Police Station, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen from a field at Caethro, near Welshpool, during the night of the 12th instant : a brown cart Mare, 3 years old, strong make, and has white down the face, and on hind fetlock ; also a black, aged, cob Mare, clipped last winter, the property of Pryce Yearsley, Esq., who will pay a reward of £ 5 on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Stafford, Welshpool, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen on the night of the 6th instant, the property of George Pole : a light dun- coloured mare Pony, 12 hands high, 6 years old, short ears, dark mark down the back, black legs, mane, and tail, in good condition, and had a foal last year. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Offiee, Lewes ; to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield; to Sergeant Avery, Court House, Mark Cross; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen from Chown's Pool, Plymtree, during the night of the 8th ultimo, the property of Mr. Robert Prouse, a black mare Pony, aged, 11-|- hands high, white star on forehead, mane on the left side, grey hairs about the head, hair off both knees, and rubbed about the shoulders and back by the harness. If stolen, a reward will be paid by the owner on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Collins, Devon Constabulary, Cul- lompton.— Bow- street, May 12. Stolen on the night of the 9tli instant, from Gallywood Common, Chelmsford, the property of George Clark, a dark bay Pony, 7 years old, 13 hands high, white face, down to right side of nose, two hind and one near fore foot white, tail cut even with hocks, white star close to saddle on off side, strikes the ground with near fore foot, and in good condition; a home made Cart, with odd steps, lattice seat, small door in FIFE. I* back fastened with a pin, and painted black ; and a set of Harness, nearly new, back strap and tugs, quite new, tbe name ' George Clark,' in large letters on back of cart; sup- posed gone in tbe direction of Herts. Information to be given to Superintendent Dobson, Police Station, Springfield, Chelmsford, Essex.— Bow- street, May 12. Further information respecting the dark bay mare Pony, stolen from a stable at Watling- street, Wellington, as adver- tised in the Police Gazette of the 26th ultimo, it has an old stake- mark which has been sewn up in the thick part_ of right thigh, and is partly covered with the tail. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Welling- ton, Salop.— Bow- street, May 12. Stolen during the night of the 9th instant, from a field, at Theydon Bois, the property of Charles A. Wicks, farmer, a white and roan Cow, in full milk, horns pointing upwards. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson,. Police Station, Epping, Essing.— Bow- street, May 12. Stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from a field at Theydon Garnon, the property of Mr. Charles Williams, a farmer : a bay cart Horse, about 16J hands high, aged, white star on forehead, white spot above the off fore hoof, short mane and tail, and in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex. — — Bow- street, May 10. Stolen in the borough of Maldon on the night of the 7th instant, the property of Robert Blaxall, butcher, Full- bridge : a dark bay horse Pony, 9 years old, 12 hands high, black legs, mane, and tail, cut short, small white mark down the nose, scar over left eye and on left knee ; also a brown mare Pony, 5 years old, 11 hands high, and very small head. Information to be given to Head Constable King, Police Station, Maldon, Essex.— Bow- street, May 10. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 17th instant, from No. 3, James- street, Chiswick, charged with stealing Seven Pounds Ten Shillings in gold, and Seven Shillings in silver : a man, 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, nearly white hair; dressed in dark cord trousers and vest, and side- spring boots. — Metropolitan Police, T Division, May 19. Absconded on the 16th instant, from No. 54, Hans- place, Chelsea, charged with stealing Six Five Pound Bank of England Notes, and Four Pounds in Gold : a footman, 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, and dark hair and eyes; dressed in dark cloth coat and vest, dark mix- ture trousers, and new felt, liat. — Metropolitan Police, B Division, May 1; 9. Absconded from Rhymney Iron Works, between 3 and 4 a. m. on the 10th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing a new pilot cloth monkey Jacket; a pair of elastic- side Boots, since found pledged ; a half- worn grey cloth Coat, pockets on hips, and one inside left breast, lined with black and red flannel lining, and torn under arm- pit; a pair of half- worn grey woollen cloth Trousers, singed in front of legs, fly front.; a cotton Muffler, red, but much faded ; and a Church of England Prayer Book, the property of Stephen Merritt : WILLIAM SMITH, a labourer at iron works, a native of Woolwich, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, propor- tionate figure, light hair, no whiskers, and light moustache ; dressed in the stolen coat and trousers, dark cloth vest, lace- up working boots, check shirt, and dark woollen knitted cap with peak, walks erect, and has been a soldier; he is much addicted to drink, and likely to be found labouring in iron- works. Information to be given at tbe Chief Constable's Office, Usk ; or to Superintendent Fowler, Tredegar, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 19. Description of JOHN McCARNEY, charged with stealing a green plaid Coat, a pair of cord Trousers, a woollen Shirt, a cloth Cap and a Vest, from his master, on the 15th instant: 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout make, black curly hair, full face ; he is wearing the stolen clothes ; is a sweep, and has worked in Liverpool, Manchester, and other large towns. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Superinten- dent Glossop, Birmingham.— Bow- street, May 17. Absconded from Portsmouth, charged with stealing £ 5 : EMMA BIGGS, about IS years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, slightly built; dressed in black bonnet, jacket, and dress ; has been in service as housemaid. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Barber, Ports- mouth, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, May 17. Absconded on the 9th instant, charged with embezzling £ 4 from No. 24, High- street, Notting- hill, a carman ; 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, and dark brown hair ; dressed in cord trousers, black vest, white slop, and deerstalker hat.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, May 17. Absconded on the 13th instant, charged with stealing from 9, Connaught- sq,, Paddington, £ 15 in Gold and Silver, a female Servant.: 35 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion and hair, and small warts under chin; dressed in black barege dress with orange spots, and black shawl and bonnet, black imitation wheat timming.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, May 17. Absconded on the 12th instant, charged with stealing, from No. 26, Duke- street, Grosvenor- square, £ 45 in bank Notes, and a Bank- book, with the name ' Jacob Dege' inside, a collector : 26 years of age, 5 feet. 5 inches high, sallow com- plexion, and dark hair and eyes ; dressed in a dark blue frock coat, light fancy vest, light trousers, and high black hat.— — Metropolitan Police, C Division, May 17. Stolen from the Royal Oak beerhouse, Abercarn, in the parish of Mynyddyslwyn, Monmouthshire, on the 14th ult. : a silver Geneva Watch and Chain ( since found pledged at a pawnshop in Broadmead, Bristol). By SOLOMON LEVI, a Jew, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, very dark swarthy complexion, dark curly hair, and black mous- tache ; dressed in an old light brown overcoat, shepherd's plaid trousers ( small pattern), and black bowler hat; he is a tramping, glazier, and carries a ciate of glass. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Constabulary Office, Tredegar Ironworks, Monmouthshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 17. Absconded, charged with stealing from No. 65, Warwick gardens, Kensington, in September last : ten Spoons, four table and six dessert ; six large Forks, fiddle pattern, and all plated; four silver Tea Spoons, crest— a dragon ; two mourn- ing Rings, one set with single diamonds, the other set with pearls; nine Sheets, four linen and five cotton ; four damask Table Cloths, marked ' B' in ink. A female servant, 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, and stoops ; dressed in brown dress, black shawl, black lace bonnet, with pink flowers. Supposed to have gone to her husbaosd who is employed as a clerk at Newcastle- on- Tyne, or one of the seaport towns on the coast of Scotland. — Metropolitan Police, T Division, May. 17. Stolen from Ashtead, Surrey, on the 12th instant, an old- fashioned gold Geneva Watch, with embossed back; and a gold link Chain. By a tramp about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, red face, dark whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes, a black wide- a- wake or hard felt hat. He was traced to Epsom. Information to be given to Superintendent Page, Surrey Con- stabulary, Dorking, or at the Police Station, Letherhead.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of a woman charged at Chester with stealing Wearing Apparel from a house in which she had lived a few days as domestic servant; she is about 24 years of age,. 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, dark wavy hair; dressed in the stolen property, viz., a bright violet- coloured dress and . dark brown linsey cloak with cape. She had been in, the Chester Female Home for a short time, and is now supposed to have gone to Liverpool or Congleton. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester.— Bow- street, May lb. Absconded from Latchford, in the borough of Warring- ton, Cheshire : THOMAS BROWN, assistant overseer and collector of Poor Rates for the township of Latchford, and also Registrar of Births and Deaths for the district of Latchford : he is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, deeply pockpitted, talks slowly, has an impediment in his speech, and is a native of Cheshire : he is charged with embezzlement. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 15.
