During the night of the 13th instant, a house in the city of Hereford was broken and entered, and stolen therein : twelve silver Tea Spoons, six marked ' R. M. W.' in German text" and six marked ' M. SE AND CATTLE STEALING. - Stolen from Birch- End Farm, Wichenford, on the night of the 25th instant, a half- bred dark bay Horse, 6 years old, nearly 15' liands high, short tail, streak of white down nose, white on Hear hind foot, well shod all round, fiat- footed, and in good condition, the property of Mr. E. Clarke. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Phillips, County Police Station, Worcester .- Bow- street, April 28. authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. An inquest was held at the Woodman inn, Glass Houghton, on tie 25th instant, on the Body of a newly- born male Child, which Was found dead in a privy connected with the above inn, on the 21th instant, and it is supposed to have been there about two months : the child had a piece of white , cotton tied tight round its neck, the cotton has'formed the' bottom of one slop of a pair of woman's drawers, and has, five tucks in it. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, West Riding Constabulary,; Court House, Pontefract.-- Bow- street, April 28. On the 13th instant, the body of a newly- born male Child was found in the river Eden, having been strangled, and a verdict of ' Wilful murder,' was returned by the coroner's jury against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Infor- mation to be given to City Chief Constable Rent, Police Office, West Walls, Carlisle.— Bow- street, April 28. An adjourned coroner's inquest was held at the Crown ; Hotel, in Fietton, on the 20th instant, on the body of a newly- born female Child, which was found dead, in a nude | state, by the side of the river Nene, against Peterborough Bridge, on the 13th instant, and a verdict of ' Wilfulmurder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Barker, Norman- cross, Peterborough.— Bow- street, April 24. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough of Bolton, on the night of the 21st instant: a gold Geneva Watch, marked ' T. K.' with roman letters inside, and outside the cases ; had attached a gold albert Chain, ordinary pattern, and an oval bright gold Locket. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton.— Bow- street, April 24. Stolen from a stable at Watling- street, Wellington, abou 2- 30 a. ni. on the. 25th instant : a dark bay mare Pony, abou 14 hards high", 6' yoars old, in good condition, bang tail, has ; few white hairs down the face, a little white on left hind foo and newly shod ; a set of brass- mounted black Harness, hal worn ; a small riding Saddle ; an old brown and white stripei Rug, torn iu several places ; a cart horse Bridle, brass plat on winkers, marked ' T. P.;' a pair of driving Reins ; a' Segg Collar ; a Pitch Fork and Shovel; a dandy Brush ; and larg railway waggon tar Sheets, with G. W. R' in white pain on each side. Also ftolen from the yard, a dark brown spring Cart, wit ' James Peake, Watling- street, Salop' painted' in red ail white oh cart. By a man about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dressed in dar clothes. Stolen on the night of the 22nd instant, from a field i Great Linford, Bucks : two half- bred Lambs, about 5 week old, marked with a dot of ruddle on near side, the propert of Mr. G. W. Between 8 p. m. on the 22nd and 6 a. m. on the 23rd instant,, a fat hogget Sheep was stolen from a field at Milford, and slaughtered in White Coat Plantation adjoining, and the, skin, head, feet, and part of entrails were found there, i The sheep had been killed by an inexperienced hand, the | skin was cut to pieces, aud part of the flesh left on the skin. • Information to be given to Superintendent Wardle, West | Riding Constabulary, Selby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 26. Williams, No. 69.' j'Benfleet, the property of Wm Dowman : a dark bay Mare, FORGERY. Absconded on the 13th instant, charged with forgery and embezzlement: a clerk, 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, whiskers, and moustache ( may have shaved);- small lump on forehead, thin, and sunken eyes ; generally dresses in black ; very fond of billiards. He may use the name of WILSON. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Scotland- yard.— Bow- st., April 26. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of two men who are charged with house- breaking at Uckfield, Sussex, on the 22nd instant: One about 21 years of ago, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, whiskers shaved off, pro- portionate figure; dressed in a white slop with band round the bottom, cord trousers, dark cap, and half boots. He was apprehended at Lewes on the same day, but made his escape about 8 p. m., whilst being conveyed to Uckfield ; he had a pair of handcuffs on his wrists at the time of his escape. The other is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light complexion, slight figure; dressed in dark coat and trousers, and imitation sealskin cap.. Four Table Cloths, marked ' R. A. Williams ;' one marked. No. 1, and three marked- No. 4/ 69. A " Church Missionary Box and Money. A Book, ' Wild Flowers around Melbourne,' green cloth, lettered. An Inkstand ( silver) about 9 inches long and 4 inches wide : two owls holding the. ink, with a tray in front for pens, between the owls : a small, sqqare box for wafers. . £ 15 15s. reward will be paid to any, fperson or persons who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders;'. vi?., £ 10 10s. by the Salt Hill Association for: the Prosecution of Felons, and £ 5 5s. by J. On the morning of the 19th instant, an attempt was made to break into the shop of Mr. Robert Hull, watchmaker and jeweller, Newmarket, by taking, out a pane of glass, when the thief was taking. soiqe Picture Frames and other Articles from the window ( which were afterwards found close by), he was struck on the right hand . with a piece of iron by Mr. Hull, and in making his escape he was shot at, and is sup- posed to be wounded. £ 30 reward is offered to any person or persons who will'give such information and evidence as will lead to the conviction of the offender pr offenders. During the; njght of. the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Godsall, of the Bell Inn Broadheath, near Worcester, was broken into, and stolen therein : ,' seven silver tea Spoons, four ditto table Spoons, four-' dii^ o salt Spoons, one ditto . pair.' of sugar, all marked,,' M- A. H ;': also four metal table Spoons ; and eighteen new metal tea Spoons, not marked ; and about 15s. in Coppers. Information to be given to Superintendent Phillips,' County- Police Station, Worcester.— Bow- street, April 21. < j • Between 7 and 8, p. m. on the 16tli instant, a dwelling- house in Ashton- under- Lyne was entered, supposed by means of skeleton keys, and stolen therein : twenty- three silver Tea Spoons, marked ' T.;' a: silver ( Teapot, a^ d Stand, teapot marked ' G.'' and some other letter;' ' a silver Cream Jug ; a 7 years old, in low condition, black legs, one white hind fetlock,; broom tail, white star in forehead, saddle marks on back and sides, mane chafed with collar; a market Cart, painted black, bottom tarred underneath, seven- leaf springs, ' William Dowman' in small letters on off side, two new pieces of board inside the tailboard ; also a set of Harness, very old. Supposed by two men who inquired the way to North Benfleet, and had the appearance of low horse dealers. Information to be given to Inspector Hawtree, Police Station, Rochford, Essex.— Bow- street, April 24. Stolen from a field at Bews Corner, Dulwich, a dark brown mare Pony, in foal, 3i years old, 12 hands high, white star on forehead.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, April 21. Found on the 10th instant, and now iu the possession of the Police : a dark brown cart Mare, aged, in foal, about 16 hands high, with two white hind feet, and white off fore foot, and a white blaze down the face, and other marks, supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Jones, Police Office, Newcastle- under- Lvme.— Bow- st., April 21. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of JOHN CROOK, a fishmonger and poulterer, who absconded from St. Leonard's- on- Sea on the 23rd inst., and who is charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of money of his masters, Messrs. Gilson and Allen : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair com- plexion, fresh colour, rough brown hair, small moustache and whiskers, a sriiall tuft of hair on the chin, and has a mole on ' the'right cheek ; : dressed in a brown overcoat with velvet collar, striped trousers, shiny leather leggings, and high wide- awake hat; had with him two small black leather bags; he is a native of Bath, where his father carries on business as a fishmonger. & c. Information to be given at the Police Office, St. Leonard's- on- Sea, or to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 28. On the night of the_ 25th instant at the parish of Routh, in the: East Riding of York, the Hair was cut and stolen from the tails of 30 horses, the property of Messrs. Whiting, Stephenson, and Catton,. farmers ; the hair is black, chestnut, ' and grey. Information to be given to' Superintendent Wright, East Riding Constabulary, Police Station, Leven, Yorkshire. -— Bow- street, April 28. mmtswwm Description of a butcher named HENRY AUSTIN, who is charged with embezzling £ 3 Os. Id., the money of his master, Elisha Port, at Brighton : he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, Jewish appearance, black curly hair, large nose, slight moustache, and one hand injured by the bursting of a gun. Has a relative at Tunbridge Wells, and is acquainted with a man who is supposed to be employed by' the South Eastern Railway Company, at the Bricklayers' Arms. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, who has a warram, for his apprehension.— Bow- st., April 28. Absconded on the 24th instant, from 53, Euston- square, charged with stealing three pair ot Mack - Cloth Trousers ; a browu Overcoat, velvet Colin r ;. and a pair of spring- side Boots : a butler, 25 years of age, 5 feet ' 8 ' inches high, fair complexion, no whiskers, light hair ; dressed in bterik cut- away coat, black vest and trousers, . and high hat.- Metropo- litan Police, E Division, April 28. Absconded from Wimborne Minster, charged with em- bezzling a large sum of money belonging to that parish : WILLIAM PITT, assistant overseer, 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, rather small grey eyes, small dark whiskers mostly worn under the chin, walks very erect, thin figure ; dressed iu dark clothes and high hat; he took with him a carpet bag find a rug. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Hammond, Dorset Consta- bulary, Wimborne, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, April 28. Description of JACOB DAN, or DUNN, a Polish jew, charged with having on the 18th instant converted to his own use a jeweller's box, containing a number of gold and silver Watches and Guards, also gold Rings, Brooches, Pins, & c., the property of Joseph Kaidenover, his master. He is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, black hair, fresh complexion, round face, large mole on one cheek, droop- ing nose, little or no whiskers, if any, black colour ; dressed when last seen in a bluck cloth coat, having a blue pilot cloth jacket over the same, light vest, and a pair of mixture cloth trousers, yellow colour, with a black stripe down the sides, and a black soft billycock bat. Had in his possession a pedlar's certificate, No. 54, granted at Middlesborough on January 6, 1871. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, who holds a warrant, and will pay £ 5 reward on his apprehension.^- iJow- sf., April 24. Absconded from Blandford, on the 18th instant, charged with stealing two bushels of Wheat ( recovered), at the parish of Shillings ton, on the 17th instant: WILLIAM HUNT, a baker, 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, thin make, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, little or no whiskers ; supposed to be dressed in a dark cloth coat, ditto vest, cord trousers, and blaek bowler hat. Information to be given to Superiu- tendent Lavender, Dorset Constabulary, Sturminster Newton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., April 24. RICHARD DAGLESS, charged with stealing a Shovel and a Eork, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th inst., has been apprehended, and is remanded till the lst proximo. — Bow- street, April 24. Absconded on the 20th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : JOSEPH RICHARDSON, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, very pale, dark hair, rather sandy whiskers, small light moustache, high prominent forehead, round head ; dressed in black frock coat, dark tweed trousers, and high black hat. £ 20 reward. In- formation to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry.— Brno- street, April 24. Description of a tramp who is charged with stealing a set of Harness from the George public house in Wymondham, on the evening of the 14th instant, where he lodged the previous night. On the 15th he sold the Harness in Norwich, since been recovered, and on the 16th he left the same for Dereham: He is 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportion- ately made, very dark complexion, eyes, and hair, no whiskers except on the chin, one ankle a little swoollen, which he said was from the kick of a horse whilst he was in the 6th Foot in India, for which he was discharged and recently returned to England ; dressed in dark coat, vest, and trousers, the coat, and vest having been made from an army overcoat, and the trousers are army ones with the sidestripe taken out, French cap with cheesecutter peak and a brass button an each side. It is believed that he now has a relative living at Lynn, another at Beeston, near Leeds, and another in Worship- street, Finsbury, London. He has been sentenced to penal ser- vitude. Information to be given to Superintendent Barrett, Wymondham, NorfolK.— Bow- street, April 24. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 49, the property of his master : THOMAS B. ARMITAGE, a traveller, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, thin make, light complexion, hair, and whiskers on the sides of face, and of gentlemanly appearance. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 21. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. George Salisbury, Marsden- terrace, Blackburn : 1 gold Geneva stop Watch, engine- turned cases, cream- coloured dial, pink- coloured hands, seconds hand broken,.' William Russell, Geneva,' on dial. 1 gold plated Guard and Locket, the locket has a cross on one side, and two spaces for photographs on the other. 1 silver Geneva Watch, flowered silver dial, dark hands, No. ( supposed) 3471. 1 gold plated Albert Chain, curb pattern. 1 gold plated Albert Chain. 1 gold plated Locket, raised horse- shoe on one side, dead gold back, with spaces for two portraits. 1 black felt billycock Hat, ' George Salisbury' written inside lining, and ' Lorne' inside crown. By THOMAS BLACKBURN, who lodged at the house during the night of the 3rd instant, and absconded in the morning ; he is 24 years of age, 5 feet lj inch high, slender make, thin face, light brown hair, slight moustache, no whiskers, grey eyes, nose slightly crooked, scar over left eyebrow, scar on right thumb, and mark under right breast; dressed in a suit of black cloth clothes and the stolen billycock hat; is a native of Colne, Lancashire, a draper, and well educated ; in 1867 he was tried at Liverpool Assizes for stealing money at Wigan, and sentenced to 18 months at Kirkdale Gaol. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 19. Absconded from the parish of Neenton, on the 13th instaBt, charged with larceny:: JAMES EVANS, a farm labourer, about 48 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark orown hair, and large whiskers ; dressed in dirty drab open smock frock, old moleskin waistcoat, with sleeves, cotton cord trousers, and strong lace- up boots ; he has worked at coal wharves in the neighbourhood of Birmingham, where he is supposed to have made for. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, County Constabulary Office, Bridgnorth, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. - r- Bvw- strcet, April 19. Absconded on the 6th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: CHARLES STEPHEN EASTLAND, late of No. 1, Summerfield- road, Blackstock lane, Finsbury Park, late' eaebier> fe> the Star Life Assurance Society, No. 48,' JIoer- gate- street, about 39 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 1.0 inches high, Hack li ally Beard, whiskers, and moustache, saftbw complexion, kui-- brushed off- the. forehead,. stout build, broad shoulders, ' walks very upright; generally dressed in dark clothes, and high blaik bat, and is of gentlemanly appearance. Informa- . tism tp be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, No. 26, Old' Jewry, E. C.— Bdw- itreet, April 19. FELLIES. ( Not otherwise described). A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of THOMAS PASSIMORE, alias PAIR, charged with bigamy at Floors in November, 1870 : he is a native of France, but has been in England for the last 13 years, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, pale complexion, jaw- bone broken, which causes the teeth to overlap ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers, and billycock hat; he is a shoemaker and plasterer, and has been employed by bootmakers in High- street, Epsom, in 1868, at Berkhampstead in 1869, at North- ampton in 1870, at Surbiton, Surrey, and Long Ditton, Kingston- on- Thames in 1871, and he is supposed to be now employed at one of those places. Information to be given to Superintendent Bailie, Northamptonshire Constabu- lary, Weedon.— Bow- street, April 19. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of GEORGE JANAWAY, a horse dealer, of Wrecklesham, Farnham, who has absconded, and for whose apprehension the Lord Chief Justice of England, issued a warrant, for perjury at the late Kingston Assizes : about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, very fresh com- plexion, light brown hair and whiskers, stoutly built, and turns his toes out when walking ; generally dressed in light coat., vest, and trousers, and a low- crowned hat, sometimes wears a brown overcoat; he is well known amongst hoise and cattle dealers, in all parts of England, more particularly in the counties of Berks, Hants, Kent, Surrey, and Sussex. The Horse and Cart described in the Police Gazette of the 19th instant, as having been obtained by false pretences from the Saracen's Head, Ashford, has been recovered, having been left at Tucker's Livery Stables, Hart- street, Covent- garden, by the man described, who also left a pair of brown ( mingled) ribbed socks, marked ' W. F. W.' with white cotton, and a pair of elastic- side boots, with toe- caps and imitation laces. He arrived in London at 11' 30 p. m. ou the 14th instant, and was accompanied by another man about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, and dark complexion. — Bow- street, April 24. Obtained by false pretences from the Saracen's Head, Ashford, oil the 14th instant, a red- cream- coloured Gelding, 12 years old, 15 hands. 2 or 3 inches high, high hip- bones, near hind and near fore feet white, has an old wound on near side, between shoulder and saddle, caused by falling on a spike; a plum- coloured Dog cart, picked out with white, brown cushions; and a set of silver- mounted Harness, with breeching. By a man about 25 years of age ( looks much younger), 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, no whiskers, light hair, round face, several front teeth recently knocked out, and lips cut and strapped; dressed as a stableman, in dark trousers aud vest, black jacket, hard felt hat, and new spring- side boots. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the property. He was seen in Whitechapel on the day he left home, with some papers, and he stated that he was going to see a lawyer about a little property he thinks belongs to him; he is somewhat affected in his mind and speech from parelysis. A man who gave the name of JAMES BROWN, and representing himself to be the agent of a large bacon and cheese factor, is committed for trial at the next general sessions, at Exeter, on the 9th proximo, on two charges of felony, one at Sidmouth, the other at Honiton : lie is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout built, large head, large bushy eye- brows, hair falling off top of head, bushy sandy whiskers, and sallow complexion ; dressed in a grey witney cloth double- breasted overcoat, much worn, drab ribbed cloth trousers, soft black felt hat, black and red cravat, and lace- up boots ; says he is a quaker, and a native of Liverpool. Supposed by a man, 30 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, thin face, thin shaggy whiskers; dressed in dark clothes, stiff low- crowned deerstalker bat, spring- side boots, and thin gold chain five or six times double from the button hole to the waistcoat pocket ; states he is a draper's commercial traveller, and carries a small black bag ; is supposed to be a native of Somersetshire, in the neighbour- hood of Bath, and the same man who committed robberies at Windsor and the George Hotel, Reading. He left Slough on the 14th instant by the 11 a. m. train for Reading, where he pawned the two first- mentioned coats, giving his address as Stamford- street, London, leaving Reading for Abingdon by 4' 30 p. m. train, and took a ticket from there to Oxford by the 6' 15 p. m. train, but may have gone farther on by paying the excess fare. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders to Superintendent Davis, High Wycombe, Bucks. — Bow- street, April 19.
