Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Hone* for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BUBNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, a! S Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. ROBBERY1 AID LARGEIY PROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Weedon Railway Station, on the 30th ultimo : a gold Watch, white face, plain back, very much worn, of a peculiar flat construction, ' E. Howe ' scratched on the inside of case. Information to be given to Superintendent Bailie, Weedon, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, April 5. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the highway at Sharpies, near Bolton, about 8T5 p. m. on the 31st ultimo: a gold hunting Watch, 18- carat gold, cream- coloured dial, marked ' Half Chronometer,' No. 2270,' maker Lyon, Man- chester; had attached a strong Albert Chain, each link marked as being 18- carat gold ; a small gold Key, with stone on swivel in centre, colours dark green and light pink ; a green malachite Key, in the form of a pistol with horseshoe at the end ; a small gold Compass; a spade ace Guinea and a half ditto ; a plain gold Locket, with monogram ' IHS' in blue enamel letters ; and a gold 5- franc Piece. Information to be given at the Superintendent's Office, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April- A. reward of £ 5 will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders on application at the City Police Station, Worcester.— Bow- April 6. During the night of the 2nd instant, the Abbey National School, St. Alban's, was broken and entered, and 24s. in Coppers, Is. in Silver, a 4d. Piece, a 3d. Piece, and a small Key, stolen therein. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Pike, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, April 5. A house in the parish of Gnosall, near Stafford, was broken into, on the 27th instant, between 9 a. m. and 5 p. m. and the following property stolen : a silver Watch, No. 46918, maker Whisten, Newport; a brown overcoat; a black and white plaid Shawl; a white Yest; a brown ditto ; a pair of dark brown Trousers ; a drab ditto ; a black mixture J acket, two pockets outside, and one inside ; a white calico Shirt, with linen front ; a pair of Boots, very much worn ; and a cork Hat, nearly new, all men's size; and a woman's night Dress. Supposed by a tramp, about 5 feet 10 inches high, and who inquired the road to Wolverhampton and Birming- ham, and went in that direction about 2 p. m. the same day. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Eorebridge, Stafford, or to P. C. Phillips, Gnosall, Stafford.— Bow- street, March 29 During the night of the 24th instant, a dwelling- house at Maidenhead was broken and entered and stolen therein : about 40s. worth of Chinese Money, some the size of 5s. pieces, and some smaller with holes in them : two gold Studs ; a gold albert Chain, chain pattern ; two gold pencil Cases ; a Microscope ; a small gold Ring ; a mahogany writing Desk ; a small cash Box ; and a quantity of Postage Stamps. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Macgraw, Borough Police, Maidenhead.— Bow- street, March 29. Stolen from a field at Birdlip, in the parish of Brimps- field, ou the night of the 33rd instant, two chestnut Fillys, nearly thorough bred, one of them 2 years old, about i5 hands high, the other a yearling, between 14 and 15 hands high, white star on forehead, scar on right side, nearly healed up ; both have been recently docked. Information to be given to Superintendent Hanbidge, Stroud, or to Police Constable Cooke, Police Station, Nettleton, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 29. HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING. Supposed stolen, the property of John Styles and Henry Stevens, a spotted roan barren Heifer, horns broken off, but are growing again, short- horn breed, 3 years old. Also a small black Welsh Heifer, about 2 years old. They were last seen on the 28th ultimo, near the Talbot Inn, Stapleford Tawney, on the London road. Information to be fiven to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Issex.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen from a field at Ketley, near Wellington, Salop, LARCENY All EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 25th ultimo, from Smallthorn, Stafford- shire, charged on a warrant with stealing a quantity of Wearing Apparel ( recovered), the property of William Briscoe: JOHN JONES, an Irishman, 21 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stoutly built, dark complexion and eyes, black hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in dark blue pilot jacket, very short, moleskin trousers and vest, and old blucher boots he is a collier. Information to be given to Superintendent Povey, Burslem, or to Sergeant Beirne, Smallthorn, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 10. Further information respecting SAMUEL JONES, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 5th instant, charged with stealing £ 30, the monies of the Braintree Order of Foresters : his wife has returned to Shiffnal, but he is sup- posed to be still in England, and to be working at his trade in the county of Stafford, or with a relative in or near Glasgow. Information to be given to Sergeant Cox, County Constabulary Office, Shiffnal, Shropshire.— Bow- street, April 10. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of THOMAS HARTGROVE, who has absconded, charged with stealing five trusses of Hay, the property of W. Kynaston, Esq., of Stanford Rivers, on the 28th ultimo : he is about 27 years of ; age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, very little whiskers, rather high • cheekbones, walks rather slovenly, and has the appearance of a coster- monger ; dressed in a brown plush cap, Chesterfield coat, much worn, blue guernsey, cord trousers, and lace- up boots; he frequents Shoreditch and Spitalfields Markets. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Chipping Ongar, Essex.— Bow- street, April 10. Description of WILLIAM BENNETT, alias BROWN, a tailor, but who has lately hawked and sold Cloth at fairs BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 5th instant, the residence of Miss. Nilsons, at St. Nicholas, Guildford, was broken into, and the following silver articles stolen therein : twelve tea Spoons ; eight salt Spoons ; one mustard Spoon ; a pair of sugar Tongs ; a cheese Knife ; twelve dessert Forks ; eleven small dessert Forks; four Salt Cellers ; a Waiter; a Sar- dinian gold Coin ; and an opera Glass, crest— a bursting shell and an arrow head. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, April 10. Between 10 p. m. on the 8th and 6 a. m. on the 9th inst., the house of Mr. Francis Bury, in the parish of Langley Marsh, Bucks, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver- gilt oblong Snuff- box, embossed raised edge, crest— a wheatsheaf and a hand and leg in armour, gilt partly worn off; a silver- gilt repeater Watch, open face, enamelled dial, plain black figures, short steel Chain and Key attached ; a white metal Watch, old- fashioned, open face, white dial, a short steel Chain with gold Key attached ; a gold Seal, with red cornelian stone, an old- fashioned gold Key, crest— a stag's head or griffin, both attached to a gold ring ; a glass mustard Pot, with plain silver top ; two Tops of pepper castors, silver, from cruet stand; two silver mustard Spoons, plain ; a small silver Sugar Spoon, plain ; a silver clasp fruit Knife ; two pairs of small and one pair of large Scissors; two white calico Shirts, plain fronts, recently washed but not ironed; three calico Sheets, marked ' Bury, servant,' in black ink; a red and white check Tablecover; a Tablecloth, marked ' Bury' in in ink ; a pair of men's long cotton Drawers, marked ' Bury' in ink ; several chamber Towels, marked 1 Bury' in ink ; a loin of fresh Pork, weighing 8 lbs. : about 3 lbs, of Bacon ; a small piece of cooked loin of Mutton ; a small piece of boiled Mutton ; ^- lb. of Butter ; and a quantity of Tea. During the morning of the 7th instant, the dwelling- . house of Mrs. Lewis, in the parish of Hartlebury, was broken and entered, and stole therein : three £ 5 Notes, two of the Worcester Old Bank ; a silver Watch, gilt figures, and glass broken; a gold Locket, with the name ' Merrick' engraved upon it, containing some grey hair, gold Chain attached; and an enamelled Brooch, with a dove engraved on it. Information to be given to Superintendent Raby, Police Office, Great Witley, or to Sergeant Ganderton, Police Office, Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 10. During the night of the 1st instant, the house of Mr. J. B. Read, of Upper Henwick, in the city of Worcester, was broken and entered, and a quantity of Port Wine in bottles', a leg of Mutton, and other articles were stolen. A and ' E. By two meny one about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches higk, dark moustache ; dressed well, in blue pilot Overcoat, and black stiff billycock hat, wore very light coloured kid gloves ; he was seated in a gig, in which was a black horse, occupying the attention of the shopkeeper at the side door. by pretending to give him an order, whilst the other man, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark whiskers, and very well dressed, went into the shop and took the box and contents. £ 10 reward will be paid on conviction of the offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Absconded on the 30th instant, stealing £ 166, the monies of his employers, Messrs. Morgan, Brothers, merchants: JOSIAH RICHMOND ANDERSON, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7' inches high, slender build, fair hair and complexion, no whiskers, slight imperial, and light moustache ; dressed in light tweed trousers, stripe down the sides, short cut- away coat, black, dark blue overcoat, and black hat, a clerk. £ 50 reward is offered for his apprehension and conviction. Absconded between 10" 30 p. m. 26th and 6' 30 a. m. on the 27th ultimo, charged with stealing from Loanda House, Alexandra- road, Gipsy- hill, £ 7 lis. in Gold and Silver; a Absconded from Marlesford, Suffolk, on the 25th instant, charged with laiceny: a man, about 32. years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in black alpine hat, long, plush sleeved vest, colours red, white, and blue, dark plaid trousers ; has a suit of browu cloth with him. Charged on a sheriff's warrant with stealing three Harmoniums, which he had out on hire from music sellers in Glasgow : D. B. McLATCHIE, a teacher of music, lately residing in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, from which place he absconded on the 17th' instant, rind- is supposed to have gone years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, moderately stout, of gentlemanly appearance, and will probably be found at an hotel; dressed daily in black, with white neckcloth before dinner. He is in the habit of writing letters to persons of distinction, which he afterwards exposed to the servants. He gave the name of B. SPENCER CHURCHILL, 3c, Albany, Piccadilly, which has been ascer- tained to bet false. He is generally dressed in a grey suit before dining, and had with him a portmanteau travelling rug, hat box, and a small bag, which he may leave at the railway station of the town where be arrives. Left Maidstone by 10- 15 train on the morning of the 29th ultimo. Information t< 5 be gjven to Superintendent Brown, Detective Department!,' © fesgowi— BVu- sttfeet; March. 31; Absconded from Lyd St. Giles, Isle of Ely, on the 10th instant, charged with stealing a grey cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, worn on one sleeve near the wrist, one outside breast pocket, one pocket on each side, and has lost two buttons in front : JOHN HARVEY, a tramping labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hail-, small dark whiskers, lost forefinger of right hand, has been in the Army, was discharged1 for bad conduct, and is branded with the letter ' D.;' dressed in the stolen coat, red and black sleeved plush vest, cotton cord trousers, and black cloth cap. Has a cousin employed at King's Cross Station, and stated when he left that he was going to him, but will probably get work in the Eens. Information to be given to Superintendent ^ Stocking, Elm- road, Wisbeacli, Isle of Ely, who holds a warrant for his- apprehension.— Bow- street, March 31. Absconded on the 24th instant, charged with stealing about £ 5, from the ' Prince of Wales' public- house, Crown- street, Hoxton : the potman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair ( cut short) and complexion; dressed in a cardigan jacket, pea jacket over, speckled trousers and vest, , side- spring boots ( imitation buttons), ancl black billycock hat. ' He has a relative residing at John- street, Clerkenwell.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, March 29. Police Office, Maidstone, Kent, who'holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 3. A warrant is issued for the apprehension of a man calling himself ARTHUR, J. NUGENT ( supposed false), on a charge of obtaining £ 9 9s. 6d., being the change of a cheque for'£ 15; drawn by him on the Provincial Bank of Ireland, Dublin, the said cheque being worthless, whereby he defrauded an hotel keeper at Tunbridge Wells, on the 9th instant: he is about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, rather thick set, small moustache, shaves under the chin, whick appears rather dark, broad and prominent forehead, and large eyebrows. He is supposed to be the same man charged with a similar offence at Winchester, and described in the Police Gazette of the 27tli instant, under the name cf CHAS. LEE MONTAGUE.
