POLICE Stat& oritg, CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Nome is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded, charged with seriously assaulting the now deceased . Robert Williamson, near Bellsquarry, between the 11th and 12th instant: THOMAS HALEY, miner, whose rea^ iame. is KENNEDY, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches n^ h, brown liair and whiskers, sharp nose, hazel eyes, walks very erect; dressed in a black cloth shooting coat, vest, and trousers, and black cloth cap ; is a native of Clare, Ireland, has a relative residing at Walgate Eorth- street, Wigan, and sisters there also, and generally goes under the name of LANCASHIRE TOM. When in England he occasionally works on brick- fields, is well known at Durham and Newcastle. Information to be gvien to the Procurator- Fiscal, Sheriff Court Buildings, or to the Chief Constable of the county, County Rooms, Edinburgh, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 27. white- handled Pocket- knives ; all new. Supposed by two men, one about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high* dark hair and complexion, and small dark moustache : dressed in two pockets outside, and one inside ; a white calico Shirt, Mack billycock hat, dark cord vest and trousers. The other with linen front ; a pair of Boots, very much worn ; and a about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, cork Hat, nearly new, all men's size; and a woman's night light hair, and no whiskers; dressed in light billycock hat, Dress. Supposed by a tramp, about 5 feet 10 inches high, light coat, vest, and trousers. Description of a boatman named GEORGE SALT Bow- street March 29. • charged with office breaking, and stealing £ 20 therein at I Chester on the 4th instant: he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet During the night of the 24th instant, a dwelling- house 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, small at Maidenhead was broken and entered and stolen therein : j dark whiskers ; dressed in a blue monkey jacket, moleskin about 40s. worth of Chinese Money, some the size of 5s. pieces, j vest and trousers, and blue cloth cap with peak ; is a native and some smaller with holes in them : two gold Studs ; a ! of Bursleni, and is well known in the potteries, on the river gold albert Chain, chain pattern ; two gold pencil Cases ; a : Weaver, and in the Welsh Canal District, was employed on Microscope ; a small gold Eing ; a mahogany writing Desk ; one of the river Weaver boats up to about 10 days ago. On the niglit of the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of \ During the night of the 19th instant, the cottage of the Eev. H. C. Leonard, at Marlows- road, Hemel Hempstead,! William Collins, at Woking, was broken into and stolen Herts, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the highway at Sharpies, near Bolton, about 8' 15 p. m. on the 31st ultimo : a gold hunting Watch, 18- carat gold, cream- coloured dial, marked ' Half Chronometer,' No. 2270,' maker Lyon, Man- chester ; had attached a strong Albert Chain, each link marked as being 18- carat gold ; a small gold Key, with stone on swivel in centre," colours dark green and light pink ; a green malachite Key, in the form of a pistol with horseshoe at the end ; a small gold Compass; a spade ace Guinea and a half ditto ; a plain gold Locket, with monogram ' IHS' in blue enamel letters ; and a gold 5- franc Piece. Information to be given at the Superintendent's Office, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 3. Stolen from the person in Shrewsbury, on the 21st inst., a gold Geneva horizontal Watch, gold dial, No. 15988, engine- turned case, with gold curb Chain, three gold Seals attached, one with red cornelian stone, engraved ' W.' in Old English, one with white cornelian stone, engraved ' S. B.' in Old Englisli, the, other with anchor, and a gold Key attached. £ 1 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Borough Police Office, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, March 27. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from a gentleman, at Warwick Races : a gold Watch, with white face, and ' B. Leigh Smith, from his mother,' on the inside of case. £ 10 reward will be paid on the recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender. Also stolen, a gold stop Watch, centre seconds, with a bit chipped out of the sunk part of the face. Information to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bow- street, March 24. Stolen from the person of three ladies at Holy Trinity Church, Knaresbrough, on the 16th instant, at a confirmation service, held by the Lord Bishop of Eipon : a brown leather Purse, with steel rim, containing 2s. or 3s. ; a brown leather Purse, with steel rim, containing five Sovereigns, and two return Tickets, between Eipon and Knaresbrough ; a long brown silk Purse ( crochet), two small steel balls on the ends, and two steel rings on the purse, containing one and half Sovereign, and about 6s. in Silver. By two men : one about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, small dark whiskers and tuft on chin, rather stout build, and full face ; dressed in a long dark coat, dark speckled trousers, and soft black billycock hat : the other about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, rather white face, long features, small light moustache, no whiskers; dressed in a long brown coat, dark trousers, and soft black billycocK hat turned up at the sides. The}' were traced to the Watford Station of the London and North Western Rail- way, where they were seen on the morning of the 24th ult., and they are supposed to have returned to London by the 7.30 a. m. train. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to their apprehension and conviction and recovery of the stolen property, or in pro- portion to the amout recovered. W.' in centre, with a man's portrait; a silver butter Knife, with pearl handle ; a silver Fork, with ivory handle ; a pair of plated sugar tongs ; five large and six small plated dessert Forks; I and two plated table Spoons. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guild- ford — Bow- street, March 24. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the night of the 28th ultimo, from a barn in the parish of Fawler, two fat ewe teg Sheep, half- bred, shorn, and MARKed ' J. G.' on the hip with pitch, the property of John Gillett. Information to be given to Police Constable Baker, Charlbury, or to Superintendent Lakin, ^ H^ ppin^ A, Norton, Oxon.— Bow- street, April 3. Supposed stolen during the night of the 31st ultimo, from a field at Theydon Hall, in the parish of Theydon Bois, the property of Mr. Robert Pallett, a bay Cob, aged, about 12 hands high, short thick mane and tail, small scar on bend of near thigh, and nearly blind of the off eye. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bew- street, April 3. Stolen between the 25th and 29ih ultimo, from the parish of Kilsby, Northampton : fourteen Sheep ( tegs), branded ' T. H. C.,' with a nick cut out of the bottom and top of the ear, he tegs cut on the right, and she tegs on the left ear. Information to be given to Superintendent Bailie, Weedon, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, April 3. Stolen from Ashdown Forest, in the parish of Maresfield, Sussex, oil the 29th ultimo, the property of John Cheal, a brown mare Pony, about 2 years old, 12 hands high, broom tail, has some hair clipped off under mane, has been worked, and is shod. Information to be given to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— — Bow- street, April 3. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. A house in the parish of Gnosall, near Stafford, was broken into, on the 27th instant, between 9 a. m. and 5 p. m. and the following property stolen : a silver W* tch, No. 48918, During the night of the 24th instant, the dwelling- house of the Eev. T. B. Wilkinson, at East Harling, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : Silver. 42 Spoons, twelve Table, twelve Dessert, nine Tea, one Gravy, four Salt, four Egg. 1 Salad Fork and Spoon. 5 Ladles, one Soup, four Sauce. 1 Fish Slice. 24 Forks, twelve large, twelve small. 1 Butter Knife. 1 Teapot. Plated. 6 Fish Knives, 4 Dessert Knives and Forks. 6 Soup Spoons. All marked with monogram. Supposed by a man, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 6 ins. high, slight built, rather full face, small whiskers, blind of one eye ( supposed the right), the other blue, and small pimples on face. Information to be given to Superintendent Jones, East Harling, Norfolk.— Bow- street, March 27. Between 10 a. m. and 12 noon on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs Arthur, in the hamlet of Clytha, was broken into and a single- case silver Geneva Watch, marked ' J. J. F.,' No. 24727, black silk Guard with a glass Heart and Key attached, stolen. Suppost? d by a tramping tailor, from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion; dressed in a brown cloth coat, cross plaid trousers, black bowler hat, and old elastic- side boots, much worn. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Usk, or to Superintendent F » eeman, Abergavenny. Bow- street, March 27. During the night of the 20th instant, a dwelling- house at Silsoe, Beds, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black pilot double- breasted Jacket, with outside pockets, black bone buttons and black lining; a boy's cord Jacket, with old- fashioned metal buttons ; a common blue striped Shirt; about 2 vards of brown Sealskin ; and two small Stolen from a field at Birdlip, in the parish of Brimps- field, on the night of the 33rd instant, two chestnut Fillys, nearly thorough bred, one of them 2 years old, about 15 hands high, the other a yearling, between 14 and 15 hands high, white star on forehead, scar on right side, nearly healed up ; both have been recently docked. Information to be given to Superintendent Hanbidge, Stroud, or to Police Constable Cooke, Police Station, Nettleton, Gloucestershire.— Boiv- street, March 29. Stolen between 7' 30 p. m. the 20th and 6- 30 a. m. 21st instant, from No. 60, Odessa- road, Forest- lane, West Ham : a dark bay horse Pony.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, March 27. Absconded, charged on a warrant with Horse stealing at Brackley, Northamptonshire, JOSEPH JONES, alias BIG JONEY, a native of Harrow- green, Leytonstone, near Lon- don, 26 years of age, 6 feet high, swarthy complexion,, broad shoulders, lounging gait, first joint of first or second finger of left hand deficient, and dressed in dark grey or green striped mixture suit, raised seams, or brown suit, tight trousers, and generally wears a high crowned soft felt hat ; he is a horse dealer, and frequents provincial fairs. Likely to be found with gipsies. This man "( with two others) was taken into custody, tut escaped; the other two were tried at Northampton Assizes, and sentenced to seven years' penal servitude. Stolen on the morning of the 30th ult., from the house of George Anwell, No. 94, Salop- street, Bradley, near Bilston, a brown cloth Jacket, and a pair of light cloth Trousers, with small yellow spots. By a lodger, a collier, who has absconded: 29 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, very thin make, dark hair and whiskers, has a number of boils on neck, and has lost a joint of one of his fingers; dressed in old black cloth jacket, torn at elbows, cord trousers, and old billycock hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent McCrea, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Apnl3. Description of a farm servant who absconded from Weston, Oswestry, at 6 a. m. on 30tk ultimo, charged with stealing a black cloth Jacket, pockets on hips with flaps and ditto in left breast, lining torn in left skirt, and black bone buttons ; a single breasted black cloth Vast, pocket? on each side, and black bone buttons ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, much worn, fall front, torn on seat and left leg, pieced at bottom of legs, and one button torn off with the cloth from behind, the property of Edward Watkin : he is from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather stout make, round face, fresh complexion, cut mark on left cheek near eye, light hair, and small light sandy whiskers ; dressed in a brown cloth jacket, pockets on hips with flaps, ditto vest, cord trousers, strong lace- up boots, and hard jimcrow hat. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Gough, or to Sergeant Thomas, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, April 3. The warrant for the apprehension of ROBERT FEAD KIRKPATRICK, advertised on the Police Gazette of the 10th of October last, charged with embezzlement, has been withdrawn.— Bow- st., April 3. Abcsonded about a fortnight ago from Gipping, near Stowmarket, charged with stealing a quantity of carpenter's Tools ( recovered), PHILIP SHEPPARD, a labourer, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, 28 years of age, sandy or auburn whiskers, and has an effeminate voice. He may be found with some gipsies, who travel in Suffolk and Norfolk. A photograph can be sent on application to Inspector Freeman, Stowmarket, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and to wham information is to be given.— Bow- street, March 31. Description of EDWARD PRICE, a painter, who absconded from Midsomer Norton, Somerset, on the 29th inst., and is supposed to be a native of Berkeley, Gloucester- shire, charged with stealing a pair of black cloth Trousers and Vest; a pair of plaid Trousers and Vest; two Neckties ; a Collar ; a pair of lace- up Boots ; six black- handled Knives and Forks; a Purse, and Is. in Money; the property of Edwin Bridges. About 35 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair, small whiskers, thin face, nose slightly crooked, lost several teeth in front of upper jaw, walks badly from tender feet; dressed in soft black bowler hat, dark ccat and vest, duck trousers or overalls; had witk him a large new flask basket. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, Bristol. — Bow- street, March 31. Absconded from Sutton, near Shrewsbury, during the night of the 28tli instant, stealing various articles of wearing Apparel, and 15s., the property of her master, Mr. Joseph Morgan : LOUISA MOULLS, 18 year? of age, rather pale complexion, dark hair, good looking, small eyes, medium height ; dressed when she absconded in a black silk dress, dark jacket, and black bonnet, trimmed with blue ; she booked from Shrewsbury to Euston Square Station, by the 7- 50 a. m. train on the 29th instant: the artices stolen were a lady's travelling Basket ; a Petticoat, marked ' Morgan ;' and six pairs of Stockings, marked ' M. M.' in ink; she has resided at Bicester and Woolwich, but is now supposed to be in London. A warrant is issued for her apprehension. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Con- stabulary Office, Shrewsbury.—- Bow- street, March 31. Absconded from Marlesford, Suffolk, on the 25th ikstant, charged with larceny: a man, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 3mches~ Iiigh, dark brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in black alpine hat, long plush sleeved vest, colours red, white, and blue, dark plaid trousers ; has a suit of brown cloth with Wm. Information to be given to Inspector Durrant, Wick- ham Market, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.- Bow- street, March 31. Charged on a sheriff's warrant with stealing three Harmoniums, which he had out on hire from music sellers in Glasgow : D. R. McLATCHIE, a teacher of music, lately residing in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, from which place he absconded on the 17th instant, and is supposed to have gone to Ireland, where probably he will call upon music sellers, asking their assistance in procuring him a situation, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slender made, dark eyes, whiskers small, if any, generally clean shaved, bald, walks erect, and generally carries a small walking stick; supposed to be dressed in a blue shooting coat, and brown topcoat. Information to be given to Superintendent Brown, Detective Department, Glasgow.— Bow- street, March 31. Absconded from Lyd St. Giles, Isle of Ely, on the 10th instant, charged with stealing a grey cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, worn on one sleeve near the wrist, one outside breast pocket, one pocket on each side, and has lost two buttons in front : JOHN HARVEY, a tramping labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, small dark whiskers, lost forefinger of right hand, has been in the Army, was discharged for bad conduct, and is branded with the letter ' D.;' dressed in the stolen coat, red and black sleeved plush vest, cotton cord trousers, and black cloth cap. Has a cousin employed at King's Cross Station, and stated when he left that he was going to him, but will probably get work in the Fens. Information to be given to Superintendent Stocking, Elm- road, Wisbeach, Isle of Ely, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 31. Absconded on the 24th instant, charged with stealing about £ 5, from the 1 Prince of Wales' public- house, Crown- street, Hoxton : the potman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair ( cut short) and complexion ; dressed in a cardigan jacket, pea jacket over, speckled trousers and vest, side- spring boots ( imitation buttons), and black billycock hat. He has a relative residing at John- street, Clerkenwell.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, March 29. Absconded, charged with embezzling £ 2 16s. 3d., and stealing £ 2 3s. 9d., the monies of his employer, from 105, High- street, Clapham : a boy, 15 years of age, tall, dark complexion, black hair, and grey eyes; dressed in a black cutaway coat, brown jacket under, grey stuff trousers and vest, black corded silk scarf, lined with green, and black deer- stalker hat.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, March 29. Absconded On the 26th instant ( charged with stealing from No, 19, Bedford- street, Covent- garden : a gold Watch, very thick, gilt dial, steel hands, maker French, Cornhill, a long gold curb Guard, an Albert Guard, with several Lockets attached; ten Rings, one gold, with nineteen stones, rubies, pearls, and turquoise ; one half hoop gold, set with seven pearls ; one engraved garter ; one garter, set with turquoise, and engraved ' J. A. Bi, died 20th March, 1860, age 69, E. B., died 14th October, 1859, age 33, E. B., died 13th May, 1851, age 21 ; one gold Maltese chain, gold heart attached ; one gold, clasped hands, in three compartments, shewing two gold hearts; one snake, very small, white enamel, ruby head ; one gold, garnet and pearl; one gold, set with five or six amethysts; and the other a gold cameo ; also a large gold- Brooch, eet with a very large amethyst), a servant, 27 years of age, short, fair complexion, small nose, and dressed in a light cotton gown, « range and black petticoat, grey shawl, black etraw bonnet, trimmed with black and Inauve. She was discharged from Wandsworth Prison on the 14th ultimo. —- Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 29. Stolen on the 25th instant, from a bed- room, at the Half Moon, beer- house, Thame, the property of John Lund : a pair of white moleskin Trousers, with fall front, worn at the bottom of each leg. By a lodger, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, no beard or whiskers ; dressed in a black cloth coat, - grey plaid trousers, dark soft hat, all mutch worn.; he is a - compositor, and a native of Stamford, Lincoln. Information to be given to Inspector Hawtin, Police. Station, Thame, Oxon. — . Bow- street, March 20. brown hair, tuft of light hair on chin, and is a coachbuilder's blacksmith ; dressed in a suit of black cloth clothes and top hat with crape band. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson or Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- street, March 27. FRAUDS A ID AGGRAVATED MISDEMEAN OURS. Description of a man who tendered a fictitious Cheque- for £ 15 on Messrs. Cox and Co., in payment of an hotel bill, at Maidstone, on the 29th ultimo. He is 20- or 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, moderately stout, of gentlemanly appeal aiace, and will probably be found art an hotel; dressed daily in black, with white neckcloth before dinner. He is in the habit of writing letters to persons of distinction, which he afterwards A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of 1 the servants. He gave the name of R. SPENCER SARAH GIBBS, who is charged with stealing a pair of' CHURCHILL, 3c, Albany, Piccadilly, which has been aseer- Sheets, & c., from her lodgings at Brighton, she has been - co- tained to be false.
