The Names, of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Properly that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 5024 FRIDAY, MARCH 31, 1871. ilotlee.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tlie Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably neccssary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be Sirepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded, charged with seriously assaulting the now deceased Robert Williamson, near Bellsquarry, between the 11th and 12th instant : THOMAS HALEY, miner, whose rjal name is KENNEDY, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, sharp nose, hazel eyes, walks very erect; dressed in a black cloth shooting coat, vest, and trousers, and black cloth cap ; is a native of Clare, Ireland, has a relative residing at Walgate Forth- street, Wigan, and sisters there also, and generally goes under the name of LANCASHIRE TOM. When in England he occasionally works on brick- fields, is well known at Durham and Newcastle. Information to be gvien to the Procurator- Fiscal, Sheriff Court Buildings, or to the Chief Constable of the county, County Rooms, Edinburgh, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 27. at Maidenhead was broken and entered and stolen therein : about 40s. worth of Chinese Money, some the size of 5s. pieces, and some smaller with holes in them : two gold Studs ; a gold albert Chain, chain pattern ; two gold pencil Cases ; a Microscope ; a small gold Ring ; a mahogany writing Desk ; a small cash Box ; and a quantity of Postage Stamps. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Macgraw, Borough Police, Maidenhead.— Bow- street, March 29. On the night of the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. H. C. Leonard, at Marlows- road, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : 2 Indian silver Bracelets. 1 old gold Watch. 1 long gold Chain. 1 gold Albert Chain, with cairngorm stone. 1 gold Brooch, with photograph of the late F. Leonard. 1 ditto, with painted cherub. 1 silver ditto, with cairngorm stone. 1 Coffeepot, 1 Cream Jug, 1 Sugar Basin, and 1 Salver, all silver, and marked ' C. W.' 2 pairs of Sugar Tongs, silver, andmarked ' H. S. L.' 11 silver Salt Spoons. 3 Butter Knives. 3 large Forks and 3 small ditto, silver, ami marked ' H. S. L.' 18 silver Tea Spoons, marked ' H. S. L.' and ' H.' 2 silver Mustard Spoons. 15 silver Table Spoons, marked ' C. W.' and ' 6 silver Egg Spoons. 1 silver Tankard, holds nearly a pint. 1 silver Medal, ' M. Rowles.' By two men : one about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, small dark whiskers and tuft on chin, rather stout build, and full face ; dressed in a long dark coat, dark speckled trousers, and soft black billycock hat : the other about 20 years of age, about 5- feet (' inches high, rather white face, long features, small light moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in a long brown coat, dark trousers, and soft black billycock hat turned up at the sides. They were traced to the Watford Station of the London and North Western Rail- way, where they were seen on the morning of the 24th ult., and they are supposed to have returned to Londou by the 7.30 a. m. train. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to auy person giving such information as shall lead to their apprehension and conviction and recovery of the stolen property, or in pro- portion to the amout recovered. Information to be given to Inspector Bourne, Police Station, Hemel Hempstead, Herts. — Bow- street, March 27. During the night of the 24th instant, tbe dwelling- house of the Rev. T. B. Wilkinson, at East Harling, was broken ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from tbe person in Shrewsbury, on the 21st inst., and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a gold Geneva horizontal Watch, gold dial, No. 15988, engine- Silver, turned case, with gold curb Chain, three gold Seals attached, cornelian stone, engraved ' W.' in Old English, one with red one with white cornelian stone, engraved ' S. B.' in Old English, the other with anchor, and a gold Key attached. £ 1 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Borough Police Office, j Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, March 27. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from a gentleman, at Warwick , Races : a gold Watch, with white face, and ' B. Leigh Smith, j from his mother,' on the inside of case. £ 10 reward will be , paid on the recovery of the watch aud conviction of the 1 offender. Also stolen, a gold stop Watch, centre seconds, with a bit chipped out of the sunk part of the face. Information to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bow- street, March 24. Stolen from the person of three ladies at Holy Trinity Church, Knaresbrough, on the 16th instant, at a confirmation service, held by the Lord Bishop of Ripon : a brown leather Purse, with steel rim, containing 2s. or 3s. ; a brown leather Purse, with steel rim, containing five Sovereigns, and two return Tickets, between Ripon and Knaresbrough ; a long brown silk Purse ( crochet), two small steel balls on the ends, and two steel rings on the purse, containing one and half Sovereign, and about 6s. in Silver. Information to be given at the Superintendents Office, Knaresbrough.— Bow- street, March 22. 42 Spoons, twelve Table, twelve Dessert, Gravy, four Salt, four Egg. 1 Salad Fork and Spoon. 5 Ladles, one Soup, four Sauce. 1 Fish Slice. « 24 Forks, twelve large, twelve small. 1 Butter Knife. 1 Teapot. Plated. 6 Fish Knives. • 1 Dessert Knives and Forks. 0 Soup Spoons. All marked with monogram. nine Tea, one dark whiskers ; dressed iu a blue monkey jacket, moleskin vest and trousers, and blue cloth cap with peak ; is a native of Burslem, aud is well known in tbe potteries, on the river Weaver, and in the Welsh Canal District, was employed on one of the river Weaver boats up to about 10 days ago. A warrant has been issued for bis apprehension. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester.— Bow- street, Ma> ch 24. During the night of the 19th instant, the cottage of William Collins, at Woking, was broken into and stolen therein : a lady's gold neck Chain, about 18 or 20 inches long, fastens with a snap ; a gold Locket, with ' H. W.' in centre, with a man's portrait; a silver butter Knife, with pearl handle ; a silver Fork, with ivory handle ; a pair of plated sugar tongs ; five large and six small plated dessert Forks; and two plated table Spoons. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guild- ford — Bow- street, March 24. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sunderland, by means of house breaking, between 6' 15 and 8 p. m. on the 19th inst.: 1 lady's heavy gold Chain, star pattern. I gentleman's light gold Chain. 1 gentleman's gold albert Chain. 3 pairs of gold Ear- rings, two pairs long and one short. 1 large cameo Brooch, with three half moons on it. I gold square cameo Brooch, with basin and three doves ' on it. 1 silver Scotch peeble Brooch, with a hole in the middle. 2 gold Brooches, one small, and the other large, each with a mauve stone in centre. 1 small gold Brooch, set with yellow stone in centre. 1 gold Locket, opens at the side, blue enamelled on one side, and gold on the other. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with three stones. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with yellow stones in centre, chased round the rim. 2 ladies' mourning Rings, one large, the other smaller, one has the name ' John Thompson,' engraved on the inside, the other ' H. or W. Eggleston. 1 lady's old- fashioned gold Ring, has ' Wilkinson' engraved thereon. 1 silver lancet Case, has ' Thos. Hopper' engraved on the top of the case, containing two lancets. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with three garnet stones. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with three rubies, and four small green stones. 4 silver table Spoons, two plain, and two marked ' H. E.' 1 gold Seal, has engraved on it ' Dinna Forget.' 1 gold Seal, shape of a heart, has imitation hair inside. 1 small gold watch Key. 1 leather needle Case, with piece of hair inside, has the following inscription on the inside of the case, ' To Vinnie, as a remembrance to her aunt Pegg. information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Sunderland. - - Bow- street, March 22. Information to be given to Superintendent Jones, East Hailing, Norfolk.— Brno- street, March 27. Between 10 a. m. and 12 noon on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs Arthur, in the hamlet of Clytha, was broken into and a single- case silver Geneva Watch, marked ' J. J. F.,' No. 24727, black silk Guard with a glass Heart and Key attached, stolen. Supposed by a tramping tailor, from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion; dressed in a brown cloth coat, cross plaid trousers, black bowler hat, and old elastic- side boots, much worn. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Usk, or to Superintendent Freeman, Abergavenny.— Bow- street, March 27. During the night of the 20th instant, a dwelling- house at Silsoe, Beds, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black pilot double- breasted Jacket, with outside pockets, black bone buttons and black lining ; a boy's cord Jacket, with old- fashioned metal buttons ; a common blue striped Shirt; about 2 yards of brown Sealskin ; and two small white- handled Pocket- knives ; all new. Supposed by two one about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high. A house in the parish of Gnosall, near Stafford, was broken into, on the 27th instant, between 9 a. m. and 5 p. m. and the following property stolen : a silver Watch, No. 48918, maker Whisten, Newport; a brown overcoat; a black and white plaid Shawl; a white Vest; a brown ditto ; a pair of dark brown Trousers ; a drab ditto ; a black mixture Jacket, two pockets outside, and one inside ; a white calico Shirt, with linen front ; a pair of Boots, very much worn ; and a cork Hat, nearly new, all men's size; and a woman's night Dress. Supposed by a tramp, about 5 feet 10 inches high, light coat, vest, and trousers. Information to be given to Chief Constable Gordon, Perth.— Bow- street, March 22. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Birdlip, iu the parish of Brimps- field, on the night of the 33rd instant, two chestnut Fillys, nearly thorough bred, one of them 2 years old, about 15 hands high, the other a yearling, between 14 and 15 hands high, white star on forehead, scar on right side, nearly healed up ; both have been recently docked. Information to be given to Superintendent Hanbidge, Stroud, or to Police Constable Cooke, Police Station, Nettleton, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 29. Likely 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, small to be found with gipsies. About 35 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, browu hair, small whiskers, thin face, nose slightly crooked, lost several teeth in front of upper jaw, walks badly from tender feet; dressed iu soft black bowler hat, dark ccat and vest, duck trousers or overalls-; had with him a large new flask basket. Absconded from Sutton, near Shrewsbury, during the night of the 28th instant, stealing Various articles of wearing Apparel, and 15s., the property of her master, Mr. Joseph Morgan : LOUISA MOULLS, 18 year? of age, rather pale complexion, dark hair, good looking, small eyes, medium height ; dressed when she absconded in a black silk dross, do* jacket, and black bonnet, trimmed with blue ; she booked from Shrewsbury to EustOn Square Station, by the 1- 60 a. m. train on the 29th instant: the artices stolen were a lady's travelling Basket ; a Petticoat, marked ' Morgan ;' and six pairs of Stockings, marked ' M. M.' in ink ; she lias resided at Bicester and Woolwich, but is now supposed to be in London. A warrant is issued for her apprehension. Absconded from Marlesford, Suffolk, on the 25th instant, charged with larceny: a man, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in blaek alpine hat, long plush sleeved vest, colours red, white, and blue, dark plaid trousers ; has a suit of brown cloth " with him. Charged on a sheriff's warrant with stealing three Harmoniums, which he had out ou hire from music sellers in Glasgow : D. R. McLATCHIE, a teacher of music, lately residing in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, from which place he absconded on the 17th instant, aud is supposed to have gone to Ireland, where probably, be will call upon music, sellers, asking their assistance in procuring him a situation, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 incli. os high, slender made, dark eyes, • whiskery small, if an}', generally clean shaved, bald, walks erect, and generally carries a small walking stick; supposed to be dressed in a blue shooting coat, and brown topcoat. Lyd St. Giles, Isle of Ely, on the 10th instant, charged with stealing a grey cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, worn on one sleeve near the wrist, one outside breast pocket, one pocket, on each side, and has lost two buttons in front: JOHN HARVEY, a tramping labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, small dark whiskers, last forefinger of right hand, has been in the Army, was discharged for bad conduct, and is branded with the letter ' D.;' dressed in the stolen coat, red and black sleeved plush vest, cotton cord trousers, and black cloth cap. Has a cousin employed at King's Cross Station, and stated • when he left that he was going to him, but will probably get • work in the Fens. Information to be given to Superintendent Stocking, Elm- road, Wisbeach, Isle of Ely, who holds a • warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 31. Absconded on the 24th instant, charged with stealing about £ 5, from the ' Prince of Wales' public- house, Crown- street, Hoxton : the potman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair ( cut short) aud complexion ; dressed in a cardigan jacket, pea jacket over, speckled trousers and vest, side- spring boots ( imitation buttons), and black billycock hat. He has a relative residing at John- street, Clerkenwell.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, March 29. Absconded, charged with embezzling £ 2 16s. 3d., aud stealing £ 2 3s. 9d., the monies of his employer, from 105, High- street, Clapham : a boy, 15 years of age, tall, dark complexion, black hair, aud grey eyes ; dressed in a black cutaway coat, brown jacket under, grey stuff trousers and vest, black corded silk scarf, lined with green, and black deer- stalker bat-— Metropolitan Police, W Division, March 29. Absconded on the 26th instant ( charged with stealing from No. 19, Bedford- street., Covent- garden : a gold Watch, very thick, gilt dial, steel bands, maker French, Cornhill, a long, gold curb Guard, an Albert Guard, with several Lockets attached ; ten Rings, one gold, with nineteen stones, rubies, pearls, and turquoise ; one half hoop gold, set with seven pearls ; one engraved garter ; one garter, set with turquoise, and engraved ' J. A. B., died 20th March, 1860, age 69, E. B., died 14th October, 1859, age 33, E. B., died 13th May, 1851, age 21 ; one gold Maltese chain, gold heart attached ; one gold, clasped hands, in three compartments, shewing two gold hearts ; one snake, very small, white enamel, ruby head ; who travel in Suffolk anil' Norfolk. Match Absconded charged with embezzling various sums of Money, the property of Messrs. Nicholl and Company, brewers, by whom he was employed as' carman: GEORGE FRANCIS LAY, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion,. light hair and whiskers, grey eyes, and strong build. He is accompanied by a female, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches, high, very thin, light hair, and fair complexion ; dressed in a green and" bliie plaid dress, scarlet aud black plaid shawl, black velvet hat, with amber flower. Absconded on the 21st instant, charged with embezzliiig £ 10, at North- road, Highgate : a man, 2o years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair hail- and complexion, and dressed in a blaok coat, vest, trousers, and billycock hat.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, March 27. Absconded on the 22nd instant, charged with stealing from No. 4, Wheeler- street, Spitalfields, about £ 7 iu Gold and Silver : a man ( lodger), 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark eyes, hair, and. moustache, and dressed in black cloth coat with cross pockets, and felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, March 27. Absconded on the 20tli instant, from Montego Villa, Portland- road, South Norwood, charged with stealing Two Pounds and Sixpence : a servant, 17 years of age, middle height, and thin ; dressed in peach- coloured. stuff dress, black jack. I, and black crape bonnet with straw ornaments. Her fall <• resides at Meredian- place, Dockhead. - Metropolian Police, W Division, March 27. Absconded on the 23rd instant, from Stanford- le- Hope, charged with embezzling £ 6 15s., the monies of George Smith, butcher, of Stanford- le- Hope : WM. WALKER, a journeyman butcher, 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark eyes, hair and complexion, small dark whiskers, and dark moustache, and is a little deaf ; supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Greenwich or Woolwich.
