The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Iietters addressed to the Editor BlUSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INF 0 RM AT I 0 N S. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded, charged with seriously assaulting the now • deceased Robert Williamson, near Bellsquarry, between the 11th and 12th instant: THOMAS HALEY, miner, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, s" harp iiose, hazel'Tyes," walks very erect; dressed in a black cloth shooting coat, vest, and trousers, and black cloth cap ; is a native of Clare, Ireland, has a relative residing at Liverpool, and generally goes under the name of LANCA- SHIRE TOM. Information to be given to the Procurator- Fiscal, Sheriff Court Buildings, or to the Chief Constable of the county, County Rooms, Edinburgh, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street. March 17. Further information respecting THOMAS GAHAGHAN, • charged with manslaughter in the city of Coventry, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13tli ultimo : he has been traced to No. 23, Chapel- street, Birmingham, and left there on the 14th ultimo, in company with a man, a wireworker, and a woman, with whom he is supposed to be travelling with fire- guards, toasting forks, and umbrellas, and attending fairs and races. Gahaghan is 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sandy hair, freckled face, stout build, bad appearance, and is an Irishman; is known in most of the towns in the midland counties, but has resided principally in Coventry, and is a member of the Warwickshire Militia. The other man is a native of Dudley, Worcestershire, but has not resided there for the past three or four years, 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair, sallow complexion, and small dark moustache. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent N orris, City Police Office, Coventry.— Brno- street, March 15. ROBBERY AN ® LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of three ladies at Holy Trinity Church, Knaresbrough, on the 16th instant, at a confirmation service, held by the Lord Bishop of Ripon : a brown leather Purse, with steel rim, containing 2s. or 3s. ; a brown leather Purse, with steel rim, containing five Sovereigns, and two return Tickets, between Ripon and Knaresbrough ; a long brown silk Purse ( crochet), two small steel balls on the ends, and two steel rings on the purse, containing one aud half Sovereign, and about 6s. in Silver. Information to be given at the Superintendents Office, Knaresbrough.— Bow- street, March 22. Stolen from the person of a lady, in St. Michael's Church, Malton, on the 14tli mstant, a green morocco leather Purse, with gilt clasp, containing about 18s. in Silver and a Cheque for £ 2, payable to the Hon. Mrs. Willoughby, on Messrs. Smith, Payne, and Smith, bankers, Lombard- street, London, not endorsed, signed by Mrs. Ernold Smith. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Aylesbury Steeplechases ou the 13th instant: a gold consular Watch white, ( ivory tinted) dial, gold spade hands, English works, and horizontal escapement. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sunderland, by means of house breaking, between 6T5 and 8 p. m. on the 19th inst.: 1 lady's heavy gold Chain, star pattern. 1 gentleman's light gold Chain. 1 gentleman's gold albert Chain. 3 pairs of gold Ear- rings, two pairs long and one short, 1 large cameo Brooch, with three half moons on it. 1 gold square cameo Brooch, with basin and three doves on it. 1 silver Scotch peeble Brooch, with a hole in the middle. 2 gold Brooches, one small, and the other large, each with a mauve stone iu centre. 1 small gold Brooch, set with yellow stone in centre. 1 gold Locket, opens at the side, blue enamelled on one side, and gold on the other. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with three stones. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with yellow stones in centre, chased round the rim. 2 ladies' mourning Rings, one large, the other smaller, one has the name 1 John Thompson,' engraved on the inside, the other ' H. or W. Eggleston. 1 lady's old- fashioned gold Ring, has ' Wilkinson engraved thereon. 1 silver lancet Case, has ' Thos. Hopper' engraved on the top of the case, containing two lancets. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with three garnet stones. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with three rubies, and four small green stones. 4 silver table Spoons, two plain, and two marked ' H. E.' 1 gold Seal, has engraved on it ' Dinna Forget.' I gold Seal, shape of a heart, has imitation hair inside. I small gold watch Key. 1 leather needle Case, with piece of hair inside, has the following inscription on the inside of the case, ' To Vinnie, as a remembrance to her aunt Pegg. Between the 13th and 18th instant, a dwelling- house at Balboughty, in the parish of Scone, in the county of Perth, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : two gold Brooches, large size ; two gold Rings, having four green stones set in each ; two black silk Dresses ; a brown satin Dress ; a green tartan Dress, with a small stripe of red. through it; a biae winsey Dress ; a brown winsey dress Piece ; a brown winsey Dress ; a black merino Dress; a white Plaid, with brown border; two black Plaids ; a dark brown woollen Plaid, with light border ; a red and black heavy tartan Shawl ; a white woollen tartan Shawl, with broad mixed green border; three white cotton Petticoats, two plain, one flowered round bottom ; two flannel Petticoats, one red, the other white ; a black velvet Jacket; a black silk Jacket; a black silk Tippet; two pairs of Scotch Blankets, with blue borders; a pair of white jean Stays, fasten behind; and a dark browu Parasol, with fringes and folding handle ; also three £ 1 Notes and five Sovereigns, the property of Catherine Menzies, laundrymaid, Balboughty. Information to be given to Chief Constable Gordon, Perth.— Bow- street, March 22. During the night of the 15th instant, the goods office of the Great Eastern Railway Station at Hertford was broken into, aud 6s. 9d. in Silver, 2s. in Coppers^ and some Postage and Receipt Stamps, were stolen therein. Supposed by a man about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache dressed in a dark sac coat, dark trousers, and round soft black felt hat with a band with white spots on it. Informatien to be given to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford.— Bow- street, March 20. Further information respecting the burglary at Shur- dington, near Cheltenham, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo : two of the men described therein have been apprehended, and committed for trial, the other is known as CHARLES COOKE, alias SERPENT- IN- THE- GRASS, alias SERPENT CHARLEY, supposed to belong to Man- chester : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionate make, long thin face, high cheek bones, has a sandy moustache, and a sandy tuft on chin, he has also something the matter with his front teeth, rather round shouldered, and has a genteel way of speaking, is quick and active, and a good runner; generally dressed respectable. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Police Office, Cheltenham.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen by housebreaking at Lemonsley, in the city of Lichfield, between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 12th instant: a gold lever Watch, gold dial, jewelled in four holes, maker Jas. Gilbert, Lichfield, No. 72165, ' H. B.' engraved on dome; an oval- shaped gold Brooch, containing hair, engraved on back ' Harriet Brassington, died, May 8th, 1854;' a gold memorial Ring, set with pearls, engraved ' Stephen Bras- sington, died, March 12th, 1859 ;' a gold finger Ring, con- taining hah-; five silver table Spoon, with crest— a lion, holding an arrow ; twelve silver tea Spoons, marked ' F. B, a pair of sugar Tongs, marked ' S. C. S,;' two silver salt Spoons ; a silver cream Jug, lined with gold ; a pair of gold Spectacles, in green Case ; and £ 110s. in Gold. Information to be given to Superintendent Hernaman, Guildhall, Lichfield, Stafford.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen by housebreaking between 10 p. m. the 11th, and 3' 30 a. m. on the 12th instant, from Stone House, West Hill, Wandsworth : 20 Forks, twelve large, eight small; 33 Spoons, eight table, fourteen dessert, seven tea, and four salt; two sauce Ladles; a butter Knife, all silver, and engraved ' C. E. Y.;' a tin cash Box, containing ,£ 35 in Bank Notes; some Gold ; and a door Key.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, March 15. London, No. 4936, a long gold guard Chain, with gold Locket, containing a photograph likeness on one side; two gold Keys, one a ban- el key set round with blue stones, one of which was missing ; a large gold Brooch, with blood stone in centre ; and small Locket appended, with small stone to match ; also a smaller size Brooch ; and two lady's gold finger Rings, © ne of them set with fine blue stones. During the night of the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of Richard Barnard, Harlow, miller, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver Watch, vertical movements, gold hands, open face, maker Bradley, Bishop Stortford ; also 6d. in Silver, and Is. 3d. in Coppers. Information to be given to Superintendtnt Simpson, Police Station, Epping, or to Inspector Smith, Police Station, Harlow, Essex.— Bow- street, March 13. During the night of the 11th instant, the house o* Mr. Dearlove, Maidenhead, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver Tea Caddy Spoon ; a silver lever Watch, No. 21216, Dent, London; a brown leather Purse, elastic band, containing 2s. and some pence; a silver Salt Spoon; about six plated Tea Spoons, some marked ' C. S. D.'; a silver Pen and Pencil- case, engraved; a silver Tea Spoon; a flannel Shirt, chocolate stripe ; a calico Nightshirt ; and a Table Cloth. Information to be given to Superintendent Macgraw, Borough Police, Maidenhead.— Bow- street, March 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Doverige, on the 11th instant : a dark brown horse Pony, 4 years old, 12 hands high, and in good condition, the property of Mr. Wm. Minors. Informa- tion to Toe given to Superintendent Whieldon, Ashbourn, or to Police Constable Booth, Devizes, Wilts. — Bow- street, March 22. Absconded, charged with stealing at Hoxne, on the 8th instant, a Horse ( since recovered): HENRY HOWARD, alias SPRING, a native of Sweffling, near Saxmundham. about 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, dark eyes, dark complexion, thin face, no whiskers, rather large mouth, shows his teeth when laughing, and keeps low company ; dressed in black billycock hat, tight corduroy trousers, blue guernsey under vest, and long drab slop. Information to be given to Superintendent Cook, Eye, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 22. Stolen on the night of of the 21st November last, between 5 and 9 p. m. from a field in Selly Park, Worcestershire, near Birmingham, the Scotish trotting Mare, ' Belle,' a description ® f which was in the Police Gazette of the 16th January last; there is now reason to believe that this mare died within 24 hours after being stolen, from exhaustion and being over driven upon the road side, or at some road side inn. Any person or persons giving such information as may lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive a reward of £ 50. Information to be given to Inspector Manton, Detective Department, Moor- street, Birmingham. - Bow- streei, iriareh 20. Absconded, charged with horse stealing, three men : one 40 years of age, 5 feet 6Jt inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, pale complexion, and slight dark whiskers ; dressed in brown topcoat, with velvet collar, blue cloth under coat, blue cloth vest, cord trousers, lace boots, plaid muffler, and billy- cock hat. Another 25 years of age ( looks older), 6 feet high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, nose rather prominent and raised at tip ; dressad in brown greatcoat, with raised seams, green and black striped tweed waistcoat, cord trousers, black and white plaid muffler, and billycock hat. And the other 35 yrs. of age, 6 feet high, florid complexion, thin features, brown hair and tuft on chin, and collar bone has recently been broken; dressed in dirty pepper- and- salt colour suit. They occasionally hawk brushes, cheese, & c., and are known at Birmingham, Notting- hill, Banbury, and Coventry.— Metro- politan Police, T Division, March 17. Stolen from a cart house at Plasgwyn, in the parish of Llansantffraid, during the night of the 10th instant, a Shrop- shire Down Sheepskin, one of the fore legs is cut off, the property of Mr. Edward Roberts, of Plasgwyn. Supposed by a tramping Welshman, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, jimcrow hat, and very bad boots. £ 1 Is. reward will be paid by the Llansantffraid, Llanfechan, and Meifod Association for prosecuting Felons, on apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Strefford, Welsh- pool, or to Police Constable Williams, Llansantffraid, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, March 15. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, JAMES MILLS, a native of Shipton, near Abingdon, Berkshire, charged with cutting and stealing the Hair from the manes and tails of six horses, the property of Between 3 and 9 p. m. on the 5th instant, some person or Mr. William Mills, of Ablington Bibury : 30 years of age, persons by means of a false key, entered the dwelling- house about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, and little or no of O. Downes, Church- street North, Colchester, and stolen whiskers ; dressed in an old dirty white slop, fustian trousers, therein : six Sovereigns ; ten Shillings in Silver ; a lady's black billycock hat, and lace- up boots. He was employed large size D. B. S. silver Geneva Watch, maker Benson, j last summer on an estate as carter, and is well known of some of the Berkshire Constabulary. Description of JOHN SMITH, charged witli eriitjezzie- ment, 23 years of age, slenderly built, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, slight whiskers and moustache, front teeth much decayed; sup- posed to be dressed in a new suit of dark coloured clothes, sometimes wears a sealskin cap. He is a native of Wirks- worth, Derbyshire, and has been employed as a solicitor's clerk. Information to be given to Superintendent Sharpe, Wirksworth, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension. — Bow- street, March 20. Stolen abput 8 a. m. on the 17th instant, from the Barley Mow Inn, London- street, Reading : an aluminium Geneva Watch, with seconds hand, the minute hand broken oil; a black cloth Vest, double- breasted ; and a pair of light cloth grouser, with dark stripes down the side. By two men who slept in the house : one about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, and has a peculiar look with one eye; dressed in black frock coat, black deerstalker hat, dark trousers, elastic- side boots, much too large, and large red afcd white striped scarf. The other about 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, short dark hair; dressed in black pilot coat, deerstalker hat, dark trousers, and sides)} ' ' Caps, marked ' C. Osborne, 20, Rochester- row,' on each ; a pair of Yokes, painted green, ' Wiltshire Dairy' thereon ; and £ 3 : a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet high, pale complexion, dark hair and eyes, flgl face ; dressed in dark blue ribbed cloth coat, dark trousers, black felt liat, and black Necktie, all old and dirty.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, March 15. Stolen on the llth instant, from 37, Finsbury- square, St. Luke : two £ 20 and one £ 5 Bank of England Notes. By a man, 22 years of age, very dark complexion and hair, slight moustache, 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in dark frock coat, fight trousers, black hat, with crape, has the appearance and accent of a foreigner.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, March 15. . JOHN MALING, advertised in the Police Gazette of tile 8th fnstant, charged with stealing a silver verge Watch, aid other Articles from a dwelling- house at South Shields, h& s been apprehended and committed for trial at the ensuing s^ Sions at Durham, to be bolden on the 3rd of April next. He is a returned convict, and was sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude at the Central Criminal Court, for larceny, on the 10th of July, 1865. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Richardson, Borough Police Office, South Shields.— BHic- street, March 20. Absconded, charged with larceny, JAMES HENRY BILLINGHAM, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches hjgh, tjght brown hair, clean shaved, cross- eyed, very stout, and a little round shouldered ; dressed in a grey suit, brown overcoat, and light billycock hat; lie is a baker. Information ti1 be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, wh6: holds a Warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., March 20. Stolen from the shop of Charles Drake, shoemaker, of Ramsey, on the 17th instant : three ( new) shoemakers' pump Irons ; two light men's Irons ; one Knife ; one edge Knife ; one Rasp ; and one foot Strap. By a tramping shoemaker, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark com- plexion, and very little beard or whiskers ; dressed in a dark cloth coat, cord trousers, low crowned dark hat, and wearing a ( stolen) calico apron. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Hamilton, Ramsey, Hants.— Bow- street, March 20. Description of JOSEPH BRADBURY, against whom a warrant has been issued, charging him with embezzling £ 100 belonging to a commission agent in Glasgow, by whom he was engaged as traveller : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7j or 8 inches high, broad shoulders, large bald head, only a small • riirL ' 6i Hair round the head, red whiskers and moustache, smart, and good- looking ; is a native of West Bromwich, is a good billiard player, a great betting man, and a heavy smoker ; dressed when he absconded, on the 5th instant, in greyish shooting coat and felt hat, no overcoat. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to his apprehension, on application to Superintendent Brown, De- tective Department, Glasgow.— Bow- street, March 17. Absconded on the 12th instant, charged with stealing, from No. 44, Delancey- street, Camden Town, a black leather Bag, lined with red, a plain silver Table Spoon, two gold Lockets ( one in the shape of a book), two pairs of lady's Drawers, two Chemises, nine pairs of Stockings, a black felt Hat with black feather, and a pair of gentleman's sidespring Boots : a servant, 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, very stout; dressed in dark linsey dress, black cloth jacket trimmed with black braid, and side- spring boots with patent toecaps ; supposed to have gone to Wickford, Essex, or to be in the neighbourhood of Chelsea Barracks.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, March 17. Absconded on the 14th instant, charged with stealing, from No. 9, Grenville- street, Brunswick square, £ 15 in Money : a lad, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair com- plexion, dark hair and eyes ( cast in right), stout; dressed in brown overcoat, dark trousers and vest, and deerstalker hat. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 17. Absconded on the llth instant, charged with embezzling £ 10: SAMUEL LINFIELD, milk carrier, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, black eyes, dark hair, and small dark whiskers : dressed in black cloth coat and vest, cord trousers, deerstalker hat and laced boots. Absconded on the lst instant charged with stealing from No. 14, Eldon- terrace, Maude- grove, Chelsea, a large black velvet Mantle ; a black silk Dress ; three Table Covers ; a lady's gold Watch ( all since found pledged); and a terry Bonnet : a servant, 37 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair aud complexion ; dressed in light cotton gown, dark grey jacket, and the stolen bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, Ma< ch 13. Absconded on the 6th instant, charged with embezzling 30s. from No. 17, Canonbury- lane, Islington : a lad, 17 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in dark brown overcoat, dark tweed trousers, red and wliite woollen comforter, and blank deerstalker hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, March 13.
