Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Ms. W. D, BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should he appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. I N F 0 RMAT I O N S. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of JOHN MORLEY, mason or fence waller, of West Bradford, who, about 12 noon ou the 8th instant, was seen in company with his wife Alice Morley, passing Horroksford, and going towards West Bradford, via Ribble Bridge, at which time they were heard quarrelling, at 2 p. m. the same day the body of Alice Morley was found dead iu the River Ribble, near Waddington Brook Eoot: her husband not having been heard of since, it is suspected he murdered her, and afterwards absconded. He is 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and is a native of Grindleton, near Clitheroe dressed m a white linen jacket, white billycock hat, light coloured waistcoat, with white satin flowers, cotton cord trousers, and blucher boots, with three brass eyelet- holes on each side. He is fond of drinking, and frequents low public houses and beershops, aud was lately discharged from Wake- field Gaol, after 3 months imprisonment, for assaulting his wife. He may be found at stone quarries, railway, and other works, and places where masons' work is being done. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, West Riding Con- stabulary, Wakefield, or at the Superintendent's Office, Settle.— Bow- street, February 20. Description of an Irishman, who has absconded from Witton Park, charged ( with four others in custody) with violently assaulting James McAnaney, at Escomb Woodside, on the night of the 5th instant, from the effects of which the said James McAnaney has since died : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5£ inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, small black moustache, small tuft of hair on chin, and slender made ; dressed in a blaek coat, greasy at the elbows, trousers and vest of the same material, black cloth cap, ties on the top with a ribbon, white muffler, with dark spots, and blucher boots, same as worn by militia men. Has worked at ironworks, and also as a pitman. Information to be given to Superintendent Henderson, Bishop Auckland, Durham.— Bow- street, February 17. forehead, and ' E. A.' in ink on right arm; dressed in black pilot great coat, black cloth dress coat, brown cloth trousers and vest with small yellow and black stripes, name on buttons ' Clark, Hull,' violet and black plaid shirt, sidespring boots, and black bat without lining. Had in his possession a leather travelling hat Box, a common silver Geneva Watch, with centre seconds, a brass secret- link guard Chain, and a gold Ring with revolving bloodstone. States he lives in Derby- road, Nottingham, and was born in Dublin. JOHN WATSON, 57 years of age, 5 feet 9f inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, bald on top of head, grey whiskers, grey eyes, large features, scar ou forehead, stout make ; dressed in black pilot great coat bound with braid, black cloth frock coat and vest, dark brown trousers with very small dark stripes, name on buttons ' Clark, Hull,' brown and white plaid shirt, black scarf with white spots, sidespring boots, and black hat, makers Waring and Co., Hull; states he belongs to Liverpool. They are supposed to have given false names, and when apprehended were in company with two others of the following description ; one 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and has a dark burn mark on left cheek ; dressed in dark clothes : the other 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light hair and complexion ; dressed in light clothes and light- coloured low hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Roberts, Borough Police Station, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.— Bovj- street, Feb> uary 20. Stolen during the night of the 13th instant from the person of Thomas Taylor, at Oldham : a large gold lever Watch, centre seconds, maker G. A. Coleman, Oldham, No. 34618. £ 2 reward will be paid on recovery of the watch and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hodgkinson, Town Hall, Oldham.— Bow- street, February 17. Further information respecting the robbery from the person of Henry Amey, at Warbleton, Sussex, on the 30th September last, and advertised in the Police Gazette of, the 7th October, the Watch therein described has been recovered, and a warrant has been issued for the apprehension of a man named WILLTAM HARRIOTT, for stealing the same : he is 28 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown eyes, hair, whiskers, and moustache, and proportionate figure, has been a soldier and a sailor ; dressed in monkey jacket, blue guernsey, blue serge trousers, fur or shiney cap, and Wellington boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham.— Bow- street, February 17. Stolen from the person at Sutton Races, on the 14th instant, a gold Watch, No. 9269, gold face, with blaek figures and hands, aud spray of llowers engraved in centre of face, plain engine- turned back. Information to be given to Super- intendent Galloway, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bmo- street, February 17. was lame of the left leg. Information to be given to Super- intendent Brandon, Dartford, Kent.— Bow- street, February 22. Between the lst and 6th instant, the dwelliug- house of Mrs. Wragg, of Burton- on- Trent, was broken and entered, and three Counterpanes, five Blankets, a Sheet, four Dresses, five Chemises, and three Night- gowns were stolen therein : Supposed by a man who has absconded, 37 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers, slightly pockpitted, has worked as a maltster, and is a native of York, to which place it is supposed he has gone. Information to be given to Superintendent Oswell, Burton- on- Trent, Stafford- shire.— Bmo- street, February 20. Stolen by means of burglary from the premises of Mr. Compton, draper, at Highworth, Wilts, during the night of the 16th instant: two woollen plaid Shirts, one scarlet and black, the other black and white, about six pairs of lady's new kid Gloves, size, of different colours; a common Brooch, with Ear- rings to match, pink and blue stones in the shape of stars. Supposed by three men travelling the country in con- nection with an old man, playing a mouth organ and tam- bourine, accompanied by a boy about 13 years of age, who walks on stilts, dressed as a girl, and begs from door to door ; one about 24 years of age, short stature, wearing a long black coat and trousers, and alpine hat; the other about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, one wearing a black coat and white trousers, the other a white short slop, and round hat. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, February 20. Absconded from Hexham, charged with house breaking : THOMAS ROBSON, alias ONE ARM, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, well built, light hair, long ginger coloured beard, and grey eyes. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hexham.— Bow- street, February 20. FORGERY. Absconded from Lymington, Hants, on the 9th instant, charged with uttering a forged promissory note for the pay- ment of £ 110, with intent to defraud Robert Bran, of Belmore, in the parish of Lymington : GEORGE BROOMFIELD, a gardener, 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair com- plexion, fresh colour, brown hair, blue eyes, long blaek eye- lashes, no whiskers or moustache, very respectable in appear- ance, and has a mark from a gunshot wound inside the right thumb ; dressed in a short reefer jacket, dark vest aud trousers, round felt hat or Scotch cap, and a blue guernsey vest with the word ' Fennella' in red worsted on the breast; be may also be wearing a dark witney overcoat, quite new, similar to a policeman's overcoat. He will probably endeavour to emigrate. Information to be given to Superintendent Cook, Hants Constabulary, Lyndhurst, or to Sergeant Brinson, Hants Constabulary, Lymington, who holds the warrant for his apprehension. - Bow- street, February 17. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Description of two men in custody at Bury St. Edmunds, charged with stealing from the person a Purse containing four ,£ 5 Notes of Messrs. Oakes and Sevan's, Bury and Suffolk Bank, and about £ 15 in Gold and Silver ; one of the notes has been recovered, the other three, Nos. R 5030, R 5459, and R 5535, are still missing : JOHN, alias JAMES HARRISON, 52 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair and whiskers, grey eyes, tooth out in front, Scar on upper lip, two scars on BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 19th instant the dwelling- house of Thomas Parker, at Cudham, Kent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver open face verge Watch, maker Goldworthy, Chelsea, ' Thomas James' on cap, ' T. P.' scratched on back of case ; a silver neck Guard and do. Albert, with Key in shape of horse's fore leg attached ; a biaek cloth Frock Coat and Vest, nearly new ; a pair of light cloth Trousers, Scotch pattern, fly fronts, a pair do. yellowish shade, small piece let in top right thigh ; two white Vests- one double breasted, the other pepper and salt: a woollen Shirt; a pair of red kid Gloves ; a silk handkerchief; two wrappers— one writh red spots, the other a blue border and a forester's star. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, little whiskers; dressed in light trousers, white slop, dark cap, and old militia boots, much worn, a bricklayer's labourer, and supposed to be well known in Croydon, Surrey. Information to be given to Sergeant Pope, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street February 22. The house of Mr. Ferdinand Booth, farmer, Pentrich lane, Ripley, was broken and entered on the night of the 19th instant, and stolen therein : four £ 5 Notes, one of the Bank of England, and three of the Wirksworth Bank ; £ 15 in Gold ; 29s. in Silver ; a small leather Purse, with elastic band; 5s. or 6s. in Silver ; a small barrel- shaped Box, opens at the end, which contained the notes; six silver tea Spoons, marked ' F. B.' on the handle ; and a missionary Box, containing some Coppers Information to be given to Superintendent Rust, Constabulary Office, Heanor, to Inspector Mosley, Police Station, Ripley, at the Detective's Office, Chief Constable's Office, Derby, or at any County Police Station.— Bow- street, February 22. HORSE. AND CATTLE STEALtNG. Stolen from the stable of James Birkes' Farm, Sweetten- ham, in the county of Chester, on the night of the 16th or morning of the 17th instant: a light brown Horse, 6 years old, 17 hands high, snig- bellied, a few white hairs in the face, a little white round the hoof of left forefoot, and the same from hoof to fetlock of right hind leg; a cart Bridle with square brass on each shade, and a hemp Halter. Information to be - given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Cheshire Con- stabulary, Middlewich.— Bow- street, February 20. Committed for trial to the Northampton Assizes on the 7th proximo, charged with stealing the four Horses from Steene on the 19th ultimo: JOSEPH WILSON, alias J. BUTCHER, a native of Girtford, near Sandy, Beds, and ALFRED SMITH, alias MYNOTT, of Boreliam, near Chelmsford, Essex ( for description, see Police Gazette of the 6th instant). The third man implicated is still at large, and a warrant is issued for his apprehension : his name is JOSEPH JONES, alias BIG JOEY, a native of Harrow- green, Ley- tonstone, Essex, about 26 years of age, 6 feet high, broad shoulders, swarthy complexion, lounging gait, long full face, dark brown hair, no whiskers, beard, or moustache, and has lost the first joint of one finger; dressed in a dark green mixture suit of clothes, with stripes and raised seams, the trousers fitting tight to the leg, or a brown suit; he is a horse dealer, and has been in the habit of attending fairs with the above- named men, and also Smithfield- market on Fridays. Information to be given to Superintendent Ayborn, Tow- cester, or to Inspector Botterill, Brackly, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 20. Further information respecting the cob Horse stolen from Bangor, Flintshire, during the night of the llth Decem- ber last: it was a bay Mare, rising 3 years old, about 13 hands high, had a white star about the size of a crown piece on forehead, and an enlargement of bone on the lower jaw a little above the curb line, had been roughly singed, and scared in two or three places with a clipping machine, and blistered. The man suspected of stealing the same is described as from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, long thin face, prominent nose, high cheek bones, brown hair and whiskers ; dressed in a dark faded overcoat, low- crowned flat- topped felt hat, and white muffler. Was last seen with the stolen horse at the Yacht inn, Chester, at 5 p. m. on the 12th of December. £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. Vickers, on conviction of the offender, and recovery of the cob. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Bow- street, Feb) wry 17. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 19th instant, the post office at Farningham, Kent, was broken and entered and stolen therein, about £ 20 in Gold, £ 13 in Silver, a £ 5 Bank of England Note, No. 58088, dated 29th December, 1870, silver pencil Case, a gold Brooch, with hair in centre, a cameo Brooch, and a gold Seal, imitation of a bird with its wings open. Supposed by two men about 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 J--*--- 1 ' ' _ » -;-> * * "" * ' ' Stolen between 9 a. m. on the 9th, and 9 a. m. on the 10th instant, from a field adjoining Staffordshire Moor, Tam- wortb, the property of Mr. Charles Clarson, builder, & c. : a light bay Mare, well bred, 7 years old, 15 hands high, rough coat, white star on forehead, small lump inside one knee, and a scar ' 6n the off hind leg. Information to be given to Sergeant Woollaston, Police Station, Tamworth, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, February 15. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Tadcaster, charged with stealing from a „ , dwelling- house at Acaster, on the 2lst ultimo, a pair of silver inches high, whiskers shaved off, high cheek! Sugar Tongs, six silver Tea Spoons, and two silver Table all marked'W. S.;' a silver Butter Knife, marked bones, light brown hair, rather sallow complexion ; both i Spoons, dressed in dark trousers, brown overcoats, and black high j ' H. E. G.;' a ditto, with ivory handle ; six Breakfast Knives hats; had the appearance Of being brothers, and one of them 1 and Forks, with b'one handles ; and an iron Cash Box, con taming a Promissory Note. Also from a dwelling- liouse at Holgate, near York, on the 23rd ultimo, a pair of dark grey cloth Trousers, black stripe down side and part worn ; an imitation mohair Overcoat, mended inside the collar with different material ; a black billycock Hat, without lining ; four silver Tea Spoons, small size and very old, marked " I. B. B.;' six silver plated Tea Spoons, plate worn off in paces, marked' A. B.' FREDERICK RANDALL, 42 years of age, 5 feet inches high, sallow complexion, face long and pockmarked, blue eyes, brown tuft of hair under chin, small moustache, a labourer, is a discharged soldier, native of Worcester, lately on tramp, marked with the letter ' D.' on left side, a boat on left arm, anchor on left hand, and of dirty appearance ; dressed in the stolen mohair overcoat, billycock hat, without lining, boots with plates on heels and toes, and eight rows of nails in the centre of the soles. He has been in York Castle for vagrancy. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Tadcaster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 22. Charged with stealing, from No. 76, Lavender- road, Battersea, on the 9th instant, a J100 Bank of England Note, No. 78715, a .£ 50 ditto, and a small gold Albert Chain and Key with dark stone : an engine- cleaner, 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inehes high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, large nose, thick at the bridge, pimples on face, anchor partly tattooed on right arm, and one leg sore ; dressed in blue pilot, jacket, dark striped trousers, hard felt hat, black necktie witji green flowers, and white comioxipx- Metropolitan Police( Y Di- vision, ' Febrii'ir,/ 22. Description of JOSEPH DEWHIRST, alias DEWSE, who absconded from Kilnhurst, near Rotherham, on the 16± h instant, stealing and taking with him s a man's new bliack cloth Suit, f Henry Firth, Normanton,' in gilt letters on the loop at the collar of the coat; a light grey cloth Jacket; a white and grey woollen Shirt, with yellow stripes ; a black and white, woollen Scarf, a green and black ditto ; a brown Cap, with flaps to cover the ears ; a pair of ela6tic- side Boofe, ? nd a gold- plated Scarf Pin ; he is about 24 years of age, " feet 5 or 6 inches high, light complexion and hair ( curly), ^ uft of hair on chin, slender build, burn mark on left elbow, & h'< J has lost the upper front teeth ; generally works at forges or collieries ; he will probably be wearing the stolen clothes, 4s te left Ijjs own behind. Stolen on the night of the 16th instant, from the brig ' Father Matthew,' of Seaham: an old- fashioned silver verge Watch. No. 2782 j a navy Blanket; two blue serge Shirts, bound with blue tape ; a pair of flannel Drawers ; two pairs of worsted Stockings ; a pair of blue worsted Stockings, marked ' W. 0. f- a navy duck Bag, name on the top ' W. Crask.' By an ordinary seaman who has deserted, a native of London, ^ bout 16 years of age, small features, dark poinplexion, dark hair; his friepds are believed to reside in OT near Layton. Stolen on the afternoon of the 20th instant, from the dining- room of Dr. Carter, Grand- parade, Brighton : a gravy Spoon, two tea ditto, six Table ditto, seven dessert ditto, five small | i> rks. j and eight large Forks, all silver and thread pattern ; also £ 3 in gold and silver. By a TneCh, from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, rather sallow fomplfexion, dark moustache, rather broad across the shoulders, dark piercing eyes, and smart- looking ; dressed in a black frock Coat, pepper and salt coloured waistcoat, dark striped trousers, and high black hat with narrow brim. Information to given to Chief Constable White, Brighton.— Bow- street, ' February 22. Description of a nut hawker, known as TOMMY, who is charged with having on the 16th instant, at. Brigg, felo- niously stpjen a Half- sovereign, the property of Redmond flanlon : he is about 5 feet 9 inches high, thin face, sallow complexion, rather deaf, and no whiskers ; dressed in a dark b'rown coat, cord trousers, black billycock hat, and sometimes weapf a white muffler ; chiefly makes his home at Hull, and attends markets and fairs, hawking oranges and nuts. Description of JACOB STANDERTINE, who stands charged on a warrant with having on the 4th instant at the parish of Hibaldstone stolen three Ducks, the property of Benjamin Welch : he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, no whiskers, dark hair, stout build ; dressed in drab trousers, short drab slop, buttons down the front, old black slouched hat, of shabby appearance, and attempted to enlist for a soldier at Brigg but was refused. Information to ba given to Superintendent Stevenett, Brigg, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 2a Absconded on the 2nd instant, charged with embezzling the sum of ,£ 74 17s. from Wm. Tarn & Co., Newington Causeway : a drapers' assistant, 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers, walks with a swaggering gait, stout build; dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, February 20. Bank, crossed. Supposed by a man about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight make, dark whiskers, hair short behind, fresh complexion, a little weak in the knees, has tha appearance of a gentleman's servant. A pair of grey striped Trousers and a pair of elastic- side Boots, marked f Sparkes,.. Hall, and Oo. t 310, Regent- street, London,'! belonging to the offender or offenders were left behind. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders to Superintendent Dykes, Leominster, Hereford- shire.— foib- street, February 17. Absconded on the 13th instant, charged with stealing a Bonnet Box, containing a woman's blue rep Dress, trimmed with black gimp down brepst, and black velvet down sleeves; a blue Bonnet, with white edging ; a Niglit T) ress, frilled down front, ' M. Pois,' in ink 011 front; two pairs of white cotton Stockings; two white holland Aprons ; and a white Pocket- handkerchief, marked ' S. VC.' with red cotton. THOMAS IGO, an Irish, labourer, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers, tuft of hair on chin, and slightly pockpitted ; dressed in a brown tweed jacket, cotton cord trousers, black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots; works at farm houses, and has a wife living in York. Information to be given to Sergeant Ellerby, Easingwold, York, who holds a warrant for his apprehension;— Mow- street, February 17. Description of SPICER COOPER, a tramp, committed for trial at the ensuing assizes to be holden at Lewes, Sussex, on the 20th of March, charged with housebreaking: he is 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, eyes, and hair, slight built, states that he was born at Croydon, Surrey ; dressed in an old ragged long round frock, dark jacket, light cord trousers, and black billycock hat. Another youth of the following description was seen near the house at the time of the robbery, and who is supposed to have in his possession the following property not recovered: a single blade pocket Knife, horn handle ; two table Knives, light bone handle ; two Forks to match : he is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion ; dressed in a dark acket aud vest, dirty trousers, dark round crowned hat. ELIZABETH COSTER, alias HOLT, states she is a cloth coat, light trousers, and light cap; supposed to be a native of Andover, 26 years of age, 5 feet high, brown frizzy ; mason or joiner. The suspected person is in custody, having been apprehended at Cork, but the property has not been recovered.
