CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with ths time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose if tracing and recovering them. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Ma. W. D, BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be fnade. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. Further information respecting JOSEPH STURMAN, of Mauea, labourer, charged at Chatteris, in the Isle of Ely, with four cases of forgery, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th December last : he has since then been seen at Old Trafford, Manchester, and Sheffield, which latter place he left a few weeks ago, and he is supposed to be still iu Yorkshire or the adjoining counties ; he is fond of playing sleight- of- hand tricks, and whistling by placing his fingers in his mouth, and sometimes like a bird, & c. . Information to be given to Inspector Mitchell, Chatteris, Isle of Ely, Cambs, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and will pay all reasonable expenses.— Bow- street, February 8. - INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of an Irishman, who has absconded from Witton Park, charged ( with four others in custody) with violently assaulting James McAnaney, at Escomb Woodside, on the night of the 5th instant, from the effects of which the said James MeAnaney has since died : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5| inches high? dark complexion, dark brown hair, small black moustache, small tuft of hair on chin, and slender made ; dressed in a black Coat, greasy at the elbows, trousers and vest of the same material, black cloth cap, ties on the top with a ribbon, white muffler, with dark spots, and blucher boots, same as worn by militia men. Has worked at ironworks, and also as a pitman. Information to be given to Superintendent Henderson, Bishop Auckland, Durham.— Bow- street, February 17. Charged on a warrant with the wilful murder of her illegitimate child : ELLEN BUMBEE, a servant, a native of Finchley, Middlesex, 21 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes, and scars on face; dressed in a lilac print dress, light waterproof cloak, two pockets in front, black straw hat, trimmed with black velvet and black feather, leather lace- up boots ; wears her hair in plaits, and has a relative supposed to be working on some railway in Yorkshire, where she is likely to be found.-— Metropolitan Police, S Division, February 13. Description of THOMAS GAHAGHAN, for whom a warrant has been issued for causing the death of Samuel Oliver, by kicking him on the head, at Coventry : he is 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sandy or red hair, tuft of hair on chin, stout build, freckled face, and has a low appearance. He is an Irishman by birth, but has resided in England from childhood, principally in Coventry, but is well known at Leicester, Worcester, Hull, and nearly all the towns in the midland counties, having attended fairs and races with gamblers and sharpers of the lowest class ; he occasionally purchases old umbrellas, rags, bones, & c., and is supposed to belong to the Warwickshire Militia. He is likely to frequent the common lodging- houses in the towns he may pass through. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Norris, City Police Office, Coventry, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, Feb. 13. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen during the night of the 13th instant from the person of Thomas Taylor, at Oldham : a large gold lever Watch, centre seconds, maker G. A. Coleman, Oldham, No. 34618. £ 2 reward will be paid on recovery of the watch and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hodgkinson, Town Hall, Oldham.— Bow- street, February 17. Further information respecting the robbery from the person of Henry Amey, at Warbleton, Sussex, ou the 30th September last, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th October, the Watch therein described has been recovered, and a warrant has been issued for the apprehension of a man named WILLIAM HARRIOTT, for stealing the same : he is 28 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown eyes, hair, whiskers, and moustache, and proportionate figure, has been a soldier and a sailor ; dressed in monkey jacket, blue guernsey, blue serge trousers, fur or shiney cap, and Wellington boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes,, or to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham.— Bore- street, February 17. Stolen from the person at Sutton Races, on the 14th instant, a gold Watch, No. 9269, gold face, with black figures and hands, and spray of flowers engraved in centre of face, plain engine- turned back. Information to be given to Super- intendent Galloway, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, February 1 i. coloured ones, with dark spots about neck and head, 4 years old, in calf ; and one pale red coloured, 4 years old, in calf, the property , of Mr. Joseph Robinson, farmer, of Alsop- en- le- Dale, near Ashbourn, Derbyshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Whieldon, Ashbourn. — Bow- street, February 13. Stolen during the Spring of 1870, from Dolychgenog and Bwlchwalter sheepWalks, in the parish Gwnnws, Cardigan- shire, the property of Mr. James Mitchell, a large number of mountain- bred Sheep, branded across the near cheek, a hole punched in off ear, and from four to five inches of the tails cut, off. It is supposed they have been taken to the counties of Radnor, Brecknock, Montgomery, or Carmarthen. Any person giving such' information as will lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offenders, shall receive £ 5 reward, and all reasonable expences, on application to Mr. James Mitchell. Information, to be given to Superintendent Hall, Aberystwith, or to Police Constable Davis, Pontrhydygroes Police Station, Aberystwith, Cardiganshire. — Bow- street, February 10. Stolen from a stable at Batley, on the ' night of the 3rd instant: a black Mare, 10 years old, 15| hands high, short mane, worn with collar, very little hair oil tail, small white saddle mark, has hard knots on outside of each hock, lightly shod. I Between 11 p. m, on the 9tli and 7' 30 a. m. on the 10th instant, the dwelling- house Of William Tritton, at Swiugfield, near Folkestone, Kent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : nine plain old- fashioned silver Tea Spoons; one ditto, very small; one silver ditto, fiddle pattern ; three silver Salt Spoons ; two metal ditto, fiddle pattern ; two pairs of metal Sugar Tongs ; a brass |- oz. Weight ; and some half- penny and penny Postage Stamps. Information to be given to Superintendent Dewar, Police Station, Seabrook, Sandgate, Kent.— Bow- street, February 13. Stolen by breaking into a hat warehouse in Denton, during the night of the 4th instant, two pieces of black silk Plush, one piece 50 yards long, 26 inches broad, ' 9855' in gold stamped on the end, the other 35 yards long, 26 inches broad, a fine quality, ' 9087' in gold stamped on the end; also 5s. worth of Postage Stamps. £ 10 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Ludlam, County Constabulary Office, Wilshaw, near Ashton- uuder- Lyne.— Bow- street, February 13. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the 3rd instant, at about a 6T5 p. m., a straw Stack, of about 7 tons, was set on fire. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Wood, Crewe, as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders.— Bow- street, February 8. FORGERY. Absconded from Lymington, Hants, on the 9th instant, charged with uttering a forged promissory note for the pay- ment of £ 110, with intent to defraud Robert Bran, of Belmore, in the parish of Lymington : GEORGE BROOMFIELD, a gardener, 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair com- plexion, fresh colour, brown hair, blue eyes, long black eye- lashes, no whiskers or moustache, very respectable in appear- ance, and has a mark from a gunshot wound inside the right thumb ; dressed in a short reefer jacket, dark vest and Jyousers, round felt hat or Scotch cap, and a blue guernsey vest with the word ' Fennella' in red worsted on the breast; he may also be wearing a dark withey overcoat, quite new, similar to a policeman's overcoat. He will probably endeavour to emigrate. Information to be given to Superintendent Cook, Hants Constabulary, Lyndhurst, or to Sergeant Brinson, Hants Constabulary, Lymington, who holds, the warrant for his apprehension. - Bow- street, February 17. M: HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Further information respecting the cob Horse stolen from Bangor, Flintshire, during the night of the llth Decem- ber last: it was a bay Mare, rising 3 years old, about 13 hands high, had a white star about the size of a crown j piece on forehead, and an enlargement of bone on the lower j jaw a little above the curb line, had been roughly singed, and scared in two or three places with a clipping machine, and blistered. The man suspected of stealing the same is described. as from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, long thin face, prominent nose, high cheek bone3, brown hair and whiskers ; dressed in a dark faded overcoat, low- crowned flat- topped felt hat, and white muffler. Was last seen with the stolen horse at the Yacht inn, Chester, at 5 p. m. on the l2th of December. £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. Vickers, on conviction of the offender, and recovery of the cob. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Bow- street, February 17. Stolen between 9 a. m. on the 9th, and 9 a. m. on the 10th instant, from a field adjoining Staffordshire Moor, Tam- worth, the property of Mr. Charles Clarson, builder, & c. : a light bay Mare, well bred, 7 years old, 15 hands high, rough coat, white star on forehead, small lump inside one knee, and a scar on the off hind leg. Information to be given to Sergeant Woollaston, Police Station, Tamworth, Staffordshire. — Bowistveet, February 15. Stolen sometime during the night of the 9th instant, from, a cow- shed at Alsop- en- le- Dale,. four Cows of the following description ; one I^ eifer, 3 years old, heavy in calf, red coloured with a little wh'it4 on side of flank ; two light LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 8th instant, charged with embezzling £ 100.' from the British Medical Association Society, No. 37/ Great Queen- street, Lincoln's- inn- fields : a collector, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, thin hair on top of head and slightly curled at. sides, sandy whiskers and „ moustache, speaks quick, struts when walking ; dressed when last seen in a . crrey double- breasted overcoat and high blacky- H. hat; has been' in-' Australia ; last residence No. 26, Woodstock- . Stolen from Eyton Hall, Leominster, Herefordshire, during the night of the 12th instant, two pairs of grey Trousers, one pair nearly new, one pair worn ; a dark woollen Jacket, two pockets inside, two outside; a- new brown top Coat, velvet collar, a pocket on each side, and ticket pocket, a dark mixture. cloth top Coat, plain collar; two pairs of strong nailed Boots, laee- up eyelets, toe- capped, marked in- side ' E. J. E.;' a pair of light Boots, kid tops, lace- up eyelets, capped, marked inside ' R. W. E.,' maker Reed ; a pair of Wellington military Boots, eaten inside by crickets, stud in heel for spurs; a pair of Goloshes; a gold Ring with turquoise and small red stone in centre; a £ 5 Bank of England Note ; £ 4 10s. in Gold and Silver; a Letter to Sterricker & Co., with Cheque for £ 5 16s 8d. on the Nat. and Prov. Bank, crossed,. Supposed by a man about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight make, dark whiskers, hair short behind, fresh complexion, a little weak in the knees, has the appearance of a gentleman's servant. A pair of grey striped Trousers and a pair of elastic- side Boots, marked ' Sparkes, Hall, and Co., 310, Regent- street, London,! belonging to the offender or offenders were left behind. £ 5. reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders to. Superintendent Dykes, Leominster, Hereford- shire.— Bow- street, February 17. Absconded on the 13th instant, charged with stealing a Bonnet Box, containing a woman's blue rep Dress, trimmed with black gimp down breast, aud black velvet down sleeves; a blue Bonnet, with white edging; a Night Dress, frilled down front, ' M. Pois,' in ink on front; two pairs of white cotton Stockings; two white holland Aprons; and a white Pocket- handkerchief, marked ' S. C.' with red cotton. THOMAS IGO, an Irish labourer, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers, tuft of hair on chin, and slightly pockpitted ; dressed in a brown tweed jacket, cotton cord trousers, black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots; works at farm houses, and has a wife living in York. Information to be given to Sergeant Ellerby, Easingwold, York, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 17. Absconded on the 10th instant, charged with stealing from No. .6, Grafton- street East, Tottenham Court- road : £ 6 in Gold ; two Chemises, needlework in front and ou sleeves ; a pair of lady's Drawers, needlework round bottom ; and a pair of Stockings, marked ' L. E. J.' or ' L. E. Jones :' a servant, 29 years of age, 5 Met 2 inches high, florid complexion, light hair, brown eyes, small round face, turn up nose ; dressed in brown linsey, black shawl and bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, February 15. Description of three men of the gipsy tribe, charged with having, on the 29th ultimo, stolen a quantity of Potatoes from some pits in a field at Ardington, the property of Colonel Robert Loyd Lindsay, M.
