Charged on a warrant with the wilful murder of her illegitimate child : ELLEN BUMBEE, a servant, a native of Finchley, Middlesex, 21 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes, and scars on face dressed in a lilac print dress, light waterproof cloak, two pockets in front, black straw hat, trimmed with black velvet and black feather, leather lace- up boots ; wears her hair in plaits, and has a relative supposed to be working on some railway in Yorkshire, where she is likely to be found.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, February 13. Description of THOMAS GAHAGHAN, for whom warrant has been issued for causing the death of Samuel Oliver, by kicking him on the head, at Coventry : he is 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sandy or red hair, tuft of hair on chin, stout build, freckled face, and has a low appearance. He is an Irishman by birth, but has resided in England from childhood, principally in Coventry, but is well known at Leicester, Worcester, Hull, and nearly all the towns in the midland counties, having attended fairs and races with gamblers and sharpers of the lowest class ; he occasionally purchases old umbrellas, rags, bones, & c., and is supposed to belong to the Warwickshire Militia. He is likely to frequent the common lodging- houses in the towns he may pass through. Committed for trial at the next assizes at Aylesbury, oil two charges of larceny: WILLIAM HARVEY, alias KING, a blacksmith, 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair inclined to be sandy, whiskers shaved off; tuft of sandy hair on chin, and scar on right arm from a cut or burn ; dressed in a dark brown double breasted coat with velvet collar, yanfc cloth vest,' grey mixture cloth trousers, white muffler with yellow and black stripe, and soft dark ^ oth billycock hat; states he is a native of Darlaston, Staffordshire. He had in his possession a small Pocket Diary and Almanack ( Pawsey's) for 1865, with red morocco cover ; also the following pawn tickets : one dated 8th Dec., 1870, for a Suit, 6s., at James B. Thrap's, 200, Brick- lane, Spitalfields ; one 9th Dec., 1870, for a Suii, 8s., at Joseph Jones's, 31, Church- street, Spitalfields; one dated 21st Dec., for a Greatcoat, 10s., at John Bressey's, High- street, Stratford ; one 21st Dec., 187.0, for a silver Watch, 8s., at John Willitt's, Essex- buildings, Stratford. Stolen on the night of the 4th instant, from a marsh near the river Thames, in the parish of Stone, near Dartford : two Kent ewe Sheep, supposed to have been taken away in a boat, the sheep weie slaughtered in the marsh, and the skihs- and entrails left behind. Stolen from a field at Much Wenlock; during, the night of the 4th inst., a mouse coloured mare Pony, aged, between ' 12 and 13 hands high, light star on forehead, bl& ck nose, ' mane, and! tail, short ears, hollow back, and newiv shod, the ; property of Isaac Jackson Pitcherman, Much Wenlock. ' Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Bullock, Much Wenlock, Salop.— Bow- Meet, February 8. BURGLARY AMD HOUSE BREAKING* Between 11 p. m. on the 9th and 7' 30 a. m. on the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of William Tritton, at Swingfield, near Folkestone, Kent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : nine plain old- fashioned silver Tea Spoons; one ditto, very small; one silver ditto, fiddle pattern ; three silver Salt Spoons ; two metal ditto, fiddle pattern ; two pairs of metal Sugar Tongs ; a brass Js- oz. Weight ; and some half- penny and penny Postage Stamps. Information to be given to Superintendent Dewar, Police Station, Seabrook, Sandgate, Kent.— Bow- street, February 13. Stolen by breaking into a hat warehouse in Denton, during the night of the 4th instant, two pieces of black silk Plush, one piece 50 yards long, 26 inches broad, ' 9855' in gold stamped on the end, the other 35 yards long, 26 inches broad, a fine quality, ' 9087' in gold stamped on the end ; also 5s. worth of Postage Stamps. ,£ 10 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered. On the evening of the 6th instant tke house of Mrs. Mary Binsley, at Wombourn, was entered, and the following property stolen : an old- fashioned silver Watch, horizontal escapement, jewelled in five holes ; three silver tea Spoons, engraved ' E. R.;' three silver tea Spoons, engraved ' J. W.;' a pair of silver sugar Tongs, marked ' E. D.;' a gold Ring, set with turquoise ; a gold Ring, set with different stones ; two cameo Brooches ; a Locket; a gold Ear- ring, set with garnet; a gold Key ; several small French and German Coins, in Silver and Copper; a hair Bracelet, with gold snaps ; and about 16s. in Silver. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, three boxes of Pair of Stockings marked ' L. E J.' or ' L. E. Jones:' a Cigars ; one fancy Box ; two scent Bottles, with silver Tops; servant, 29 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, florid complexion, a woollen Antimacassar; a green Necktie; two ou. three bSht ^ ir brown eyes, small round face, turn up nose ; dressed bottles of Gin and Brandy, from Casks; a quantity of ™ llnsS>> black ™ awl and bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, Tobacco, Bread, and Buttei ; a few postage Stamps : a linen LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 10th instant, charged with stealing from No. 6, Grafton- street East, Tottenham Court- road : £ 6 in Gold ; two Chemises, needlework in front and on sleeves ; a pair of lady's Drawers, needlework round bottom ; and a pair of Stockings, marked Apron, marked ' Field' with ' X.' at side ; and a small silver pencil Case, with stone at top. Information to be given to Superintendent Davis, Canterbury.— Bow- street, Febiuary 8. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the 3rd instant, at about a 6T5 p. m., a straw Stack, of about 7 tons, was set on fire. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Wood, Crewe, as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders.— Bow- street, Feb'uary 8. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen between 9 a. m. on the 9th, and 9 a. m. on the 10th instant, from a field adjoining Staffordshire Moor, Tam- worth, the property of Mr. Charles Clarson, builder, & c. : a light bay Mare, well bred, 7 years old, 15 hands high, rough coat, white star on forehead, small lump inside one knee, and a scar on the off hind leg. Information to be given to Sergeant Woollaston, Police Station, Tamworth, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, February 15. FORGERY. Further information respecting JOSEPH STURMAN, of Manea, labourer, charged at Chatteris, in the Isle of Ely, with four cases of forgery, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th December last : he has since then been seen at Old Trafford, Manchester, and Sheffield, which latter place lie left a few weeks ago, and he is supposed to be still in Yorkshire or the adjoining counties ; he i3 fond of playing sleight- of- hand tricks, and whistling by placing his fingers in his mouth, and sometimes like a bird, & c. Information to be given to Inspector Mitchell, Chatteris, Isle of Ely, Cambs, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and will pay all reasonable expenses.— Bow- street, February 8. E Division, February 15. Description of three men of the gipsy tribe, charged with having, on the 29th ultimo, stolen a quantity of Potatoes from some pits in a field at Ardington, the property of Colonel Robert Loyd Lindsay, M. P.: JAMES BLAND, 40 years of age, about 6 feet . high, black hair and whiskers ; dressed in a long coarse sacking smock frock, old dirty cord trousers, and old black Wllycock hat. MOSES BLAND, about 45 years of a ™ ' 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers turning grey ; dressed in an old light brown cloth jacket, old cord breeches and gaiters, and old black billycock hat. JOHN BLAND, about 48 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and whiskers turning grey ; dressed in an old black velvet coat, dark cord trousers, and old black billycock hat. Stolen on the evening of tne 3rd instant, from the person of Robert Smith, at Reading, an old- fashioned silver lever stop Watch, with an imitation gold curb Chain and spade Guinea attached ; seven £ 5 Notes, and about .£ 70 in Gold By two men and a woman: one is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, clean haved, scar on right cheek, stout make, and broad shoulders; .. tressed in dark brown overcoat, dark trousers, and fashion able' hat ; carried a travelling rug, black on one side and leopard spots the other ; had the appearance of a horse aeal^ r ; the other is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches liigi. i, dark complexion, black hair, little or no whiskers or moustache, dark blue loose jacket, dark trousers, black and red plaid stfarf, and fashionable silk hat ; and the woman is aJuO'S 40 years of age, rather short and stout, dark c'orn- February 13. Stolen during the Spring of 1870, from Dolychgenog and Bwlchwalter sheepwalks, in the parish Gwnnws, Cardigan- shire, the property of Mr. James Mitchell, a large number of mountain- bred Sheep, branded across the near cheek, a hole warrant for the apprehension of the three first- named men. — Bow- street, February 15. Information to be given to Inspector Mansell, County Police Station, Clewer, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February Description of RICHARD SEDGEWICK, a gentleman^ servant, out of place, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, for stealing .£ 5, the miiies of Thomas Aldridge, at Hastings on the 10th instant: about 43 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, fresh colour, dark hair, a few mane, worn with collar, very little hair on tail, small white 1 light whiskers, a little bald on the top of his head ; dressed saddle mark, has hard knots on outside of each hock, lightly. in a black billycock hat, rought brown pilot jacket, light shod. Stolen from a stable at Batley, on the " night of the 3rd instant : a black Mare, 10 years old, 15J hands high, short In possession of the Police at Coventry, and supposed to have been stolen : a very dark brown Mare, 14 hands high 6 years old, long switch tail, small patch of white on near side of rump ; also a dark iron- grey Mare, 14 hands 3 inches high, 6 years old, half bretl, off fore foot slightly white, long e'efat, woollen trousers, and side- spring boots, is of " gentlemanly appearance, and a native of Dover : supposed to b. c in' the to be giveij neighbourhood of Soho, London. Stolen on the 12th instant, from the Royal Artillery Barracks, She'erness : a sfuit of black cloth Clothes ; a Mexican Dollar ; a set of gold shirt studs ; a gold scarf Pin, thistle bud pattern, and some under Clothing. By a Scotchman who was servant to Lieut. Moles worth, R. A., 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, and dark short thick whiskers, moustache shaved off, short neck, stiff built, has a rolling gait, and carries his head a little forward ; dressed in a tweed suit, and black soft billycock hat, Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, February 15. THOMAS ROBERTS THOMPSON, a joiner and paper- hanger, absconded from Great Grimsby on the 6th instant, charged with stealing a £ 10 Note of the Lincoln or Boston Bank, £ 33 lis. 6d. in Gold and Silver, and a few joiners' Tools, some stamped ' T. R. T.,' and one chisel, stamped ' J. Faulding :' he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5£ inches high, dark hair and eyes, arched eyebrows, no whiskers, a little hair on lip and chin, rather close- kneed, and holds his shoulders stiff when walking; dressed in dark brown over- coat, black cloth undercoat, black trousers, blue and white striped necktie, and high- crowned hat; he lodged, at the beginning of 1870, at No. 4, Cavendish- street, Brighton; it is supposed that he will seek employment at Brighton or some other large town. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Campbell, Town Hall, Grimsby, Lincolnshire. — Bow- street, February 15. Absconded, CHARLES LORD, of Whitworrth, late manager of the Whitworth Yale Gas Company, charged with embezzlement: about 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fresji complexion, dark hair and whiskers, round features, broad square shoulders, very stout build, and walks erect with a short quick step ; dressed in black cloth coat and vest, dark tweed cloth trousers, soft black billycock hat, and low laie- up shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Brindle, County Constabulary Office, Rochdale, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bovj- street, February 15. Stolen from a beer- house at Middleton, at 10- 30 a. m. on the 11th instant: a large single woollen Shawl, with grey, Mick, mauve, magenta, and orange coloured stripes, torn a little at centre, and a black, white, and mauve coloured neck Shawl. By a man about 34 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches hi^ h, fresh complexion, poekpitted, peculiar look, only one eye; and has a tuft of hair at the end of his ohin ; dressed in blsick cloth shooting Coat, black cloth trousers, greasy in front, shoes, and black billycock hat ; and a woman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, pallow complexion, dark hair, and long features ; dressed in a black shawl, dark dress, • white straw bonnet, and boots. They have a child with them about 6 or 8 months old, called " Willie, the, man is called TOM and the woman SARAH ; the man stated that he had been a pals driver, information to be given to Superintendent Brindle, County Constabulary Office, Rochdale.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen on the 10th instant, from No. 60, Myddleton- square, Clerkenwell, three cases of gold Watches, eighteen in each case. By a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark curly hair, whiskers, and moustache, and dressed in dark coat, high hat, and had on kid gloves ; respectable appearance. — Metopolitan Police, G Dimsion, February 13. Absconded from Woking, Surrey, on the 21st ultimo, charged with embezzling the sum o£ £ 18 12s. 5d., being money collected by him on behalf of the land tax, income tax, and inhabited house duties : RICHARD LILLY, 65 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, sallow complexion, bald on the top of head, little hair on each side, with small grey- whiskers, both little fingers contracted, and has an impedi- ment in his speech ; dressed in dark brown double- breasted overcoat, dark trousers, and high crown hat; last seen at the Woking Station, where he took a ticket for London. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, February 13. Charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 25, the monies of his master, Mr. Thomas Homer, seed and manure merchant, Weymouth and Yeovil : THOMAS SHAPLEY, 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, large dark whiskers, slight build, round shoulders; dressed in light brown overcoat, dark vest and trousers, lace- up boots, and felt hat; he is a native of Exeter, formerly kept a public- house in or near that city, has also had a small farm, and is supposed to be at Wolverhampton. £ 2 reward and all reasonable expenses will be paid for his apprehension. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Vickery, Police Station, Wfcymouth, Dorsetshire, who holds the warrant,— Bow- street, February 13. Absconded from Midsomer Norton, Somersetshire, on the 6th instant, charged with stealing carpenter's Tools, since recovered, the property of Mr. William Evans, of Paulton , ROBERT PALMER, a carpenter, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, middle size, fair complexion, brown hair, dark whiskers, and has a very quick shrewd appearance; 4ressed in black bowler hat, dark jacket, and light cord trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Temple Cloud, near Bristol.— Bow- street, February 13 A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of CHARLES DAY, who absconded on the 30th ult., charged (• with HENRY BROWN, who is remanded until the 24th instant), with stealing forty- two Rabbit- skins, 16 lbs. of Rags, and 1 lb. of Horsehair, the property of John Sparks : he is a hawker of earthenware and collector of marine stores, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, slight sandy whiskers, and slight figure; dressed in a dark ji& clcet or short slop, old fustian trousers, and close- fitting plfiid cap. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes; to Superintendent Jenner, Court House, Battle, who holds the warrant; to Sergeant Hawkins, Bijrwash; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.--. 2w- street, February 13. ANDREW ECKHART, described in the Police Gazette of the 21st November last, charged with stealing a Watch and Chain at Tunbridge Wells, is committed for trial at the adjourned sessions at Maidstone on the 2nd proximo.— Bow- street, February 13. Description of a man charged with cutting and stealing the Hair from the manes and tails of siic Horses, since recovered, < jn the night of the lst instant, at Bibury : he is about 30 years of age 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, little or no whiskers; dressed in an old dirty white ( flop, fustian trousers, black billycock, hat, and old lace- up boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Chipp, Cirencester, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, February 13. Absconded on the 27th ultimo, charged with stealing £ 42 in Gold ; a man, late secretary to a Foresters' club, held at the Oxford $ nd Cambridge public- house, Margaret- street, * 8 Jfattiil! Ifefe, 8 lest 9 teMi high, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers, shaved under chin, lame of left leg, and walks with a stick, and talks in a short, sharp, deep tone; dressed in black suit and high black hat. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, February 10. Description of ROBERT alias JAMES PALMER, charged with felony : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light complexion, whiskers supposed shaved off; is likely to be dressed in a dark jacket, cord trousers, and bowler hat; a carpenter by trade, and a native of Midsomer Norton, Somerset; was convicted at Exeter about eight years since and sentenced to 4 years' penal servitude, and also at Taunton about three years since. Information to be given to Sergeant Whitting, Police Station, Kilmersdon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 10. Absconded from Glastonbury on the 23rd ultimo : EZRA JOHNS, glove cutter, charged with stealing a quantity of leather Gloves, the property of his master, William Squires, fellmonger and glover, Glastonbury. He is about 28 years of age, about 6 feet high, slightly built, short black hair, sallow and long features, small moustache, no beard or whiskers, a slight cast in one eye, walks very erect and quick, and was in one of the London Police Forces about three years ago. Most likely he will be found working at some leather factory at or near Bermondsey. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bloxham, Glastonbury, Somersetshire. - Bow- street, February 10. On the morning of the 29th ultimo, the body of a male child, about 3 weeks old, was found drowned iu the River Eamont, Westmoreland, wrapped in a woman's chemise, and tied up in a square piece of flannel, nearly new, within which was a stone weighing 12 lbs. ; the child was dressed in a white calico chemise, trimmed with edging round neck and sleeves, and small flannel band round waist. An inquest was held and an open verdict returned. Supposed by a man going by several names, who was formerly in the navy, but has lately been working as an " hobler" on the wharves unshipping iron ore, and is supposed to belong to Portsmouth; he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather stoutly built, fair complexion, light sandy whiskers cut short, and supposed to be dressed in a faded monkey jacket, canvas jumper underneath, fur cap with ears and bow tie in front, and old trousers with iron ore upon them. Supposed by a lodger, who absconded that morning, 50 years of age, 5 feet 7i inches high, proportionate make, grey hair and beard, whiskers shaved off, and dressed in an old black coat and vest, brown trousers, dark shaggy cloth cap, which ties in front, and military blucher boots; is believed to be a pensioner from the 23rd Foot, and was wounded in the knee in the Crimea, he said he was a upholsterer and worked through Derbyshire, Notts, Leicestershire, Warwick- shire, and Staffordshire.
