OONT<. miNQ The substance of all Informations received in eatet of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with th* time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are net known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose if tracing and recovering them. No. 4998 MONDAY, JANUARY 30, 1871. f Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be mado and addressed to ME. W. D, BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. v hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all ILetters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Absconded from London, on tbe 24th November last, charged with forging and uttering a cheque for £ 315, upon Messrs. Robarts and Company, bankers, Lombard- street : THOMAS HALLAM, has been known by the names of GRIFFITHS, LENNOX, and VEVAN, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, full hazel eyes, light brown hair, small sandy whiskers and moustache, moderate figure, is usually well dressed, and has served in the Royal Marines. £ 30 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to his apprehension, and recovery of the property, er in proportion to the amount recovered, if given within 3 months from the 14th instant. Stolen sometime between 8' 30. on the 26th, and 7 a. m. on the 27th instant, from No. 2 co- operative stores, Park- street, Congleton : 22 llis. of Limerick Twist, or roll Tobacco; 5 lbs. of cut Tobacco ; 8 lbs. of mixed Tea, in a green and gilt tin Canister, marked ' No. 3 ;' 6 lbs. of candied Peel, in Box ; 4J lbs. of fresh Butter, peg marked ; 5 sweeping Brushes, price mark iu ink ; 5 lbs. of Bacon ; two boy's linen shop Aprons, with bibs ; 2 door Keys ; and about 10s. in Bronze. Information to be given to Superintendent Bohanna, Police StatioD, Congleton.— Bow- street, January 30. On the night of the 20th instant, the offices of the Witney Railway Company, at Witney, were broken and entered, and a small amount of bronze Money stolen therein. Supposed by a man who was seen in one of the carriages at 11 the same night, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, and wore jacket and trousers of the same material ( brown tweed, small plaid), and in getting into the goods offices, he cut his hand rather severely with the glass of the window. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Witney, Oxon.— Bow- street, January 27. On the night of the 14th instant, the house of Mr. Scutt, Martinstown, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein : twelve dessert Knives and Forks, with mother of pearl handles ; a round plated cake Basket; and six plated tea Spoons, marked ' S.' Information to be given to Superin- tendent Hare, Dorset Constabulary, Dorchester. — Bow- street, January 27. was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of black cloth Trousers, with fold fronts, and a pair of dark mixture black and red cloth Trousers, with fold fronts, and lined with white calico. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Acting Sergeant Walker, Burnham, Bucks.— Bow- street, January 23. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Bloxwich, near Walsall, on the 17th instant, the property of John Griffiths, blacksmith, Bloxwich, a light brown horse Pony, aged, about 13 hands higb, has several saddle marks on back, white star on forehead, and in low condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 30. Stolen on the night of the 19th instant, from a field in the parish of Steane, near Brackley, the property of Mr. Thomas Horwood, a farmer, four nag Horses, of the follow- ing description . one a black Mare, aged, in foal, 15j hands high, a white mark on off fore leg from wound; one a bay Mare, 4 years old, 15 hands high ; one a bay Mare, 3 years old, one white heel, 15| hands high ; and a bay colt Pony, 2 years old, about 13 hands high, white heel, and thorough breed. The above Horses have been traced to London, on the 19th instant, and were seen in the possession of three men of the following description : one about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair, swarthy complexion, and has lost the first joint of the second finger of left hand ; dressed It has been ascertained that the silver Watches, Nos. 1809, in dark cloth coat, vest, and trousers, and soft felt hat. 6952, 3367, 14723, 11770, and 4354, reported stolen by house- 1 Another about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, breaking from a pawnbroker's shop at Saltcoats, Ayrshire, as sallow complexion, and dark hair ; dressed in dark coat, light advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant, were not trousers, and soft felt hat. And the other about 20 years of stolen.— Bow- street, January 27. age, 5 feet ,4 inches high, slight made, and dark complexion ; ! dressed in dark cloth coat, light trousers, and soft felt hat. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. At 8' 15 p. m. on the 17th instant, Mr. John Robinson, junior, of the Sun Inn, Astleygate, Blackburn, while passing along Church- street, was assaulted and robbed of a silver lever Watch, cream- coloured dial, gold hands, maker P. S. Lockmond, Liverpool, No. 7113, engraved on inner case ' J. Robinson': By JOHN KELLY, alias McKENZIE, about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, slender made, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, and oval face ; dressed in brown cloth overcoat, with black silk velvet collar, stiff black billycock hat, and generally carries a walking stick. And another man also named KELLY, about 21 year= of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh full face, brown hair, and no whiskers, beard, or moustache ; dressed in dark blue over- coat, and black stiff billycock hat. They travel about making artificial flowers, accompanied by a woman, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh and good looking, black wavy hair, and is a native of Bolton ; dressed in black shawl, dress, and bonnet. The men are supposed to belong to Man- chester, but are of Irish parentage, and are known in the principal towns in Lancashire and Yorkshire. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn. — Bow- street, January 25. £ 2o reward will be paid by Mr. Horwood, on the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offenders. Stolen from a fold- yard at Sancton, during the night of the 27th instant, a cleanly made chesnut cart Horse, rising 4 years old, about 16 hands high, in fair working condi- tion, carries his tail a little to one side, and supposed to have a little white on the hind fetlocks; and a pair of carting Blinders, newly cleaned, the property of Elizabeth Turner, farmer, Sancton. Information to be given to Superintendent Long, East Riding Constabulary, Market Weighton, Brough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 30. Further information respecting the light- brown cob BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, from the marine residence of Joseph Pearce, Esq., Manke- on- the- Sea, during the night of the 20th instant: a mahogany Box, from 3 to 4 feet long, about 6 inches square, containing a large brass Telescope, fitted with different lenses, mounted on brass pedestal with claws ; a Telescope, 16 to 18 inches long when closed, in a green baize bag ; a Telescope, about 9 inches long when closed, in a black case; a Table Cover, black ground, with gold coloured flowers and fancy pattern border of same colour ; a Table Cover with brown ground, shades black, with gold coloured flowers and fancy pattern border same colour ; five Anti- Macassars in different coloured wools, four woven and one crochet work, one having a hole in the centre ; a pair of Blankets with a border across the ends, marked ' JEP' with red in the corner; a gentleman's light grey cloth . Dressing- gown, with two pockets outside ; several Books, of which no particular description can be given, but may be relative to the Society of Friends, and may have the name of ' Dixon,' ' Ayton,' or ' Pearce,' written therein ; also a piece of liffht lilac- coloured Print, of small pattern, and used as a cover. Supposed by a man from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers, which may be shaved off; dressed in black or brown coat, white slop underneath, and light moleskin trousers. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Prest, North Riding Constabulary, Guisborough.— Bow- street, January 30. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of John Thomas Baker, of Woodside, Dudley, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 15450 ; a large silver verge Watch, No. 74240, maker Davidson ; i> 25 in Gold, Silver, and Copper; and a bottle of Rum. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Burton, Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 25. Between 1 and 4 a. m. on the 22nd instant the office at the Goods Station, Great Western Railway, Farringdon, was broken and entered, and two bottles of Brandy, labelled ' James Hennessey,' stolen therefrom. Between 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of Eli Andrews, of Black Notley, Essex, was Horse stoleu from the stable at Bralle Mlll> Parls} l of Hagley, broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein: on the mSht of the 13th instant. It was seen on the 20th an old- fashioned silver Watch, main spring broken, and steel mstant m the neighbourhood of Dudley, drawing a cart, in Chain attached ; three silver tea Spoons, fiddle pattern, one the possession of a man who recently made his escape from a with worn bowl ; a silver table Spoon, marked ' W. Samuel, Liverpool, 13298, Thomas Williams, Liverpool, name of MITTY KINGSLAND, about 34 years of age, 3011, 224, and 3628 ; a copper- case ditto, No. 510, Richard 5 feet 7 inches high) dark complexion, hair all shaved off his Grove, London ; five silver Geneva Watches, Nos. 21383,1 face_ He was accompanied by another man, who made his 50177, 4295, 7863, and 31381 ; seventy 22- carat gold wedding eacape ; he is about 60 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, Rings, about thirty of which are quite new ; and 25s. m j thin pale face, hair and whiskers turning grey, and turns his Silver. E. P.' in red wool at corner ; a crimson damask Bed Curtain, with hooks attached ; a piece of lilac Print, small pattern, used as a cover. Between 11 p. m. of the 21st, and 9 a. m. an the 22nd instant, the co- operative stores, Brunswick- road, Gloucester, was broken into and entered, and about 4s. in Farthings ; 5s. in Coppers ; 4 bad Shillings ; and one bad half Crown stolen therein. Between 5 p. m. on the 17th, and 7- 30 a. m. on the I8th instant, the dwelling- house of John Fielder, Burnham, Bucks, dent Clough, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- st., January 27. Stolen at 7' 40 a. m. on the 21st instant, from Upper Thames- street, in the city of London, a dun coloured mare Pony, from 12 to 13 hands high, and long tail; plain Harness ; and a new light spring Cart, painted black, picked out with blue, ' William Evans, Shepherd's Bush,' painted on one side. By a man about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, broad flat face, pug nose, full ( weak) eyes, hair cut short, and no whiskers ; dressed in a black oxonian coat and vest, dark trousers, black spring hat, and white scarf with spots upon it. Information to be given to the Inspector on Duty, Bow- lane Police Station, City of London. — Bow- street, January 25. Description of WILLIAM JONEY, charged with stealing a Horse, at White Notley, on the 4th instant, since recovered he is 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light brown hair, fair complexion, little or no whiskers ; generally dressed in soft felt hat, brown cloth coat, vest, and trousers, with raised seams, fitting tight to his legs, formerly lived at Leyton or Woodford, Essex, and is now supposed at Dulwich or Clapton. Information to be given to Superintendent Ackers, Police Station, Braintree, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 23. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of WILLIAM CHARLSTON, of Selby labourer, charged at Selby with embezzlement: he is from 35 to 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high;, dark com- plexion, full rouud grey eyes, black hair and whiskers, round chin, stout build, round shoulders, round full fawe, audi is fond of bell ringing ; dressed in dark mixture suit, black billycock hat, lace- up boots, and ( generally) knickerbockers. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Wardle, West Riding- Constabulary, Selby.— Bow- street, January, 49. . Absconded, charged with stealing a miniature Engine, the property of William Goodlad, Newbold, on the 14th instant, EDWARD GREGORY, pattern maker, late of Chesterfield, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, no whiskers, and has the appearance of a hard drinker ; dressed in a black cloth coat and trousers, black satin vest,, lace- up boots and billycock hat. The thumb on left- hand and' knuckles of the right- hand knocked up with fighting. Supposed to have gone to Leeds or its neighbourhood. Stolen from a. lodging- house in Shifnal on the 25th inst., the property of Michael Milan : a blue pilot Monkey Jacket, bound with broad silk facings and velvet collar. By a man of the following description : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, thin face, whiskers, beard, and moustache, cut short; dressed in an old long blue livery overcoat with, silver plated buttons, cord trousers, black high hat, old lace- up boots, the uppers cut in. several places, walks lame. Informa- tion to be giveu to Sergeant Cox, Shiffnal, Salop.— Bow- street, January 27. Description of a man and woman who absconded on the 17th instant, stealing and taking away with them the following articles, the property of Mary Parish, widow, 26, Bath- street, Northampton, with whom they had lodged for a few days : a silver Geneva Watch, much worn ; a ditto, gilt dial, partly worn off; a Scotch pebble Brooch, eight or ten stones set in silver, round hole in centre of brooch; a silk scarf Shawl, paisley pattern ; and a black silk Dress, a good, deal worn : H. F. or FRANK REDLAND, a compositor, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, thin face, light brown hair and whiskers ; dressed in black cloth over- coat, jacket and vest, grey trousers, with dark stripe down leg, soft black billycock hat, and elastic side boots; is well known in the printing trade, and is supposed to belong to Bury St. Edmunds. SARAH REDLAND, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, black hair, large chignon, parted down centre ; in black bonnet,. trimmed with crape, black velvet cape, with black bead trimming, and old black silk dress, with s; ripe, and two flounces of crape ; supposed to belong- to Wisbech or King's Lynn, where she has resided, and went by the - name of WILSON. I of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark brown hair and eyes, fresh complexion, rather stout built, round shoulders, and scar on left side of neck ; dressed in light coloured trousers, with brown stripe down the sides, dark mixture jacket, dark vest, round hard felt hat, and new lace- up boots, specked and nailed ; supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Croydon, Surrey, or Woolwich, Kent. Information to be given to Superintendent Colman, Kent Constabulary, Sevenoaks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 23.
