The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with emery particular which mayjead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property .' hat has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purposo of tracing and recovering them. Notice.— K is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all . Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Absconded from London, ou the 24th November last, charged with forging and uttering a cheque for £ 315, upon Messrs. Robarts and - Company, bankers, Lombard- street : THOMAS HALLAM, has been known by the names of GRIFFITHS, LENNOX, and VEVAN, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, full hazel eyes, light brown hair, small sandy whiskers and moustache, moderate figure, is usually well dressed, and has served in the Royal Marines. £ 30 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to his apprehension, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, if given within 3 months from the 14th instant. At 8' 15 p. m. on the 17th instant, Mr. John Robinson, junior, of the Sun Inn, Astleygate, Blackburn, while passing along Church- street, was assaulted and robbed of a silver lever Watch, cream- coloured dial, gold hands, maker P. S. Lockmond, Liverpool, No. 7113, engraved on inner case ' J. Robinson': By JOHN KELLY, alias McKENZIE, about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, slender made, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, and oval face ; dressed in brown cloth overcoat, with black silk velvet collar, stiff black billycock hat, and generally carries a walking stick. And another man also named KELLY, about 21 year? of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh full face, brown hair, anu no whiskers, beard, or moustache ; dressed in dark blue over- coat, and black stiff billycock hat. They travel about making artificial flowers, accompanied by a woman, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh and good looking, black wavy hair, and is a native of Bolton ; dressed in black shawl, dress, and bonnet. The men are supposed to belong to Man- chester, but are of Irish parentage, and are known in the principal towns in Lancashire and Yorkshire. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a pawnbroker's shop in the brough of Chesterfield, on the night of the 23rd instant : seven silver lever Watches, Nos. 601, 3547, 5082, 943, 2371, 11314, and 7414, maker Slack, Chesterfield ; eleven silver verge Watches, Nos. 8220, maker Andrew White, London, 1418, Charles Smith, London, 13181, Richard Farrell, Dublin, 1346, Thomas Wordswick, Lancaster, 516, Joshua Bates, Huddersfield, 932, Johnson, Chesterfield, 10314, H. Samuel, Liverpool, 13298, Thomas Williams, Liverpool, 3011, 224, and 3628 ; a copper- case ditto, No. 510, Richard Grove, London ; five silver Geneva Watches, Nos. 21383, 50177, 4295, 7863, and 31381 ; seventy 22- carat gold wedding Rings, about thirty of which are quite new ; and 25s. in Silver. Information to be given to Head Constable Farndale, Borough Police Office, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. - Bow- street, January 25. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, during the night of the 20th instant, from the marine residence of J. Pease, Esq., Marske- by- the- Sea, a mahogany Box, from 3 to 4 feet long, about 6 inches square, containing a large brass Telescope, fitted with different lenses, and pedestal and claws ; a ditto, from 16 to 18 inches long when shut, inclosed in a green bag ; a ditto, about 9 inches long when shut, iu black case, some supposed to have the name of ' Cook, maker, York ;' four woven Antimaccassars and one Crochet- work, of different coloured wools, one has a hole in the centre; a large Table Cover, black ground and gold coloured flowers ; a ditto, dark brown ground, gold coloured flowers, each cover having fringe at the edges ; two Blankets, ' J. E. P.' in red wool at corner ; a crimson damask Bed Curtain, with hooks attached ; a piece of lilac Print, small pattern, used as a cover. Information to be given to Superintendent Prest, North Riding Constabu- lary, Guisborough.— Bow- street, January 23. Between 11 p. m. of the 21st, and 9 a. m. on the 22nd instant, the co- operative stores, Brunswick- road, Gloucester, was broken into and entered, and about 4s. in Farthings ; 5s. in Coppers ; 4 bad Shillings; and one bad half Crown stolen therein. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Constabulary Office, Gloucester.— Bow- street, Jan. 23. Between 5 p. m. on the 17th, and 7' 30 a. m. on the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of John Fielder, Burnham, Bucks, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of black cloth Trousers, with fold fronts, and a pair of dark mixture black and red cloth Trousers, with fold fronts, and lined with white calico. Information to be given to the Con- stabulary, Jedburgh.- Bow- street, January 18. During the night of the 18th instant, Grafton House, Worthing, was broken and entered and the following articles 1 good Condition"' rough coated1 BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of John Thomas Baker, of Woodside, Dudley, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein: a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 15450 ; a large silver verge Watch, No. 74240, maker Davidson ; £ 25 in Gold, Silver, and Copper; and a bottle of Rum. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Burton, Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 25. Between 1 and 4 a. m. on the 22nd instant the office at the Goods Station, Great Western Railway, Farringdon, was broken and entered, and two bottles of Brandy, labelled ' James Hennessey,' stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent Reece, Farringdon, Berks.— Bow- street, January 25. Between 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of Eli Andrews, of Black Notley, Essex, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein: an old- fashioned silver Watch, main spring broken, and steel Chain attached ; three silver tea Spoons, fiddle pattern, one with worn bowl ; a silver table Spoon, marked ' W. S C.' on top of handle; a black cloth Vest, buttons up to the neck inside, pale yellow colour lining ; a woman's black silk Cape, trimmed with deep black fringe ; and a blue and white cotton bundle Handkerchief. Information to be given to Superin- stolen therein : a pair of silk crimson Curtains ; a large square plated Inkstand ; three? woollen Blankets ; a white Blanket, marked ' J. E. T.;' a white Counterpane. Information to be given to Superintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabu- lary, Worthing.— Bow- street, January 20. Between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Joseph Jenkinson, at Aketon, in the township of Follifoot, was forcibly entered, and the following property stolen therein : a blue pilot Overcoat, black velvet collar, black and red plaid lining, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, and has four bright black buttons on it; a black cloth Vest, two pockets and a watch pocket in left breast, black covered buttons, and light drab lining ; a pair of cloth Trousers, grey and black stripe, broad stripes down sides, pattern attached ; a plain cotton Shirt, without collar, lined with white cotton on shoulders; a silver watch Guard, round links ; and a red woollen Muffler. An old brown ribbed cloth Coat, with velvet collar, and a red Handkerchief with round white spots, were left behind. Information to be given at the Superintendent's Office, Knaresborough, York- shire.— Bow- street, January 20. On the night of the 17th instant, the house of William Pool, in Little Eaton, Derbyshire, was broken into, and the following Articles stolen : a brown Topcoat, with black velvet collar ; two black cloth Coats and " Vests; a grey Coat and pair of Trousers; a black cloth Coat and Vest, old ; a dark spotted Coat; a pair of dark cloth Trousers, with invisible plaid squares ; a silk Handkerchief, cream coloured ground witli lavender stars ; a silk Handkerchief, orange ground ; two cotton Handkerchiefs, one red with white spots. Sup posed to have been committed by two furnace men on tramp. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Lawson, Constabulary Office, Litchurch, near Derby.— Bow- street, January 20. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at 7' 40 a. m. on the 21st instant, from Upper Thames- street, in the city of London, a dun coloured mare Pony, from 12 to 13 hands high, and long tail; plain Harness ; and a new light spring Cart, painted black, picked out with blue, ' William Evans, Shepherd's Bush,' painted on one side. By a man about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, broad flat face, pug nose, full ( weak) eyes, hair cut short, and no whiskers ; dressed in a black oxonian coat and vest, dark trousers, black spring hat, and white scarf with spots upon it. Information to be given to the Inspector on Duty, Bow- lane Police Station, City of London. — Bow- street, January 25. Stolen on the night of the 19th instant, from a field in the parish of Steane, near Brackley, the property of Mr, Thomas Horwood, a farmer, four nag Horses, of the follow- ing description : one a black Mare, aged, in foal, 15| hands high, a white mark on off fore leg from wound; one a bay Mare, 4 years old; 15 hands high; one a bay Mare, 3 years old, one white ' heel, 15 J hands high ; and a bay colt Pony, 2 years old, about 13 hands high, white heel, and thorough breed. The above Horses have been traced to London, on the 19th instant, and were seen in the possession of three men of the following description : one about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair, and fair complexion ; dressed in dark cloth coat, vest, and trousers, and soft felt hat. Another about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, and dark hair ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers, and soft felt hat. And the other about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slight made, and dark complexion ; dressed in dark cloth coat, light trousers, and soft felt hat. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Horwood, on the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Osborn, Towcester, or to Inspector Botterell, Brackley.— Bow- street, January 25. Description of WILLIAM JONEY, charged with stealing a Horse, at White Notley, on the 4th instant, since recovered he is 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light brown hair, fair complexion, little or no whiskers ; generally dressed in soft felt hat, brown cloth coat, vest, and trousers,' with raised seams, fitting tight to his legs, formerly lived Leyton or Woodford, Essex, and is now supposed at Dulwi. h or Clapton. Information to be given to Superintendent Ackers, Police Station, Braintree, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 2? i Stolen from a yard at Bexhill, during the night of the 16th instant: a bay cob Mare, about 15 years old, about 14 new shoes, one. or both white hind feet, cannot lay down, having been hu: t in left hiud hip, and walks lame at times. Information to be given to Superintendent Jeffrey, Guestling, to P. C. Moore Bexhill, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, January 20. Stolen from a field at Buttington during the night of the 12th instant: a dark brown cart Filly, rising 3 years old in low condition, small white star on forehead, and no other white upon her, had not been shod or handled. Information to be given to Superintendent Strefford, Welshpool, or to Police Constable David Richards, Buttington, Montgomery- shire.— Bow- street, January 18. Found and supposed to have been stolen about the 23rd ultimo, at Mr. Reed s farm, Bromley, in the parish of Upper Arley, Staffordshire : a black Welsh mare Pony, aged, about 10 hands high, star on forehead, white spot on nose, and a white strake on the near hind leg. Information to be given to Sergeant Baldwin, Kinver, or to P. C. Farmer, Police Station, Upper Arley, near Bewdley, Staffordshire.— Bern- street, January 18. Stolen on the night of the 15th instant, from the shop of Messrs. J. P. and G. Reeds, of Stokesley, grocers, by breaking and entering the back premises, about £ 3, consisting of Pennies and Halfpennies. Information to be given to Super- intendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton, or to Sergeant Clarkson, Police Office, Stokesley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 18. On the night of the 15tli instant, the farm house at Haw- thornside, Roxburghshire, wras broken into and stolen therein: a yellow leather pocket Book, containing three £ 5 Scotch bank Notes, four £ 1 ditto; a Half Sovereign, a small sum in Silver and Copper Money ; about 5s. worth of Postage and Receipt Stamps ; a bottle of Brandy ; a currant Loaf ; and a copy of the " Scotsman' newspaper, addressed to Wm. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, charged with stealing £ 6, the monies of his master, William Henry France. Esq., surgeon, New Whiting- ton, on the 21st instant: CHARLES HALL, a groom, about 20 years of age, 5 feet high, round shouldered, fresh com- plexion, slightly pockpitted, brown hair, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a suit of dark grey tweed, hard black felt liat, aud white necktie. Information to be given to Superintendent Oldham, Constabulary Office, Chesterfield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 25. Description of RICHD. SHAW, alias DROVER DICK, for whose apprehension a warrant has been obtained for stealing £ 2 12s., the property of Emma Cowton, at Holgate, in the West Riding of York : 45 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, grey hair, whhkers growing round throat and face, a driver of cattle at fairs, born at Arton, near Driffield, East Riding, last residence at Skipton, West Riding; dressed iu a dark grey overcoat, trousers, fustian leggins, dark billycock hat, and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Kane, Tadcaster, West Riding of Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 25. Stolen from a house in Seacombe, about 7 a. m. on the 18th instant : a blue cloth Coat and Vest; a pair of light cloth Trousers ; a pair of yellow ditto ; a pair of dark ditto ; a • black cloth Coat; alight cloth Vest ; a violet coloured Hand- kerchief ; a yellow ditto : a white cali » Shirt; a yellow and black ditto ; a blue ditto; a pair of worsted Stockings ; a pair Of Boots, clump soles'; a seal skin Cap ; and a pillow Slip. By a lodger named HENRY MOORES, of West Bromwich, boltmaker, 21 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, small light moustache, no whiskers, and slender made. Information to be given, to Superintendent Egerton, County Police, Birkenhead, or to Inspector Saxton, Egremont, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 25. J Absconded on the 21st instant, charged with embezzling ,£ 12 from the Kent Arms public- house, North Woolwich, a potman, 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, light tweed trousers' and vest' side spring boots,' black cloth cap with French peak.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, January 25. Absconded from Brasted, Kent, charged with embezzle- ment, On the 18th instant: FREDERICK FULLER, 16 yrs. of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark brown hair and eyes, fresh complexion, rather - stout built, round shoulders, and scar on left side of neck ; dressed in light coloured trousers, with brown stripe down the sides, dark mixture jacket, dark vest, round hard felt hat, and new lace- up. boots, specked and nailed ; supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Croydon, Surrey, or Woolwich, Kent. Information to be given to Superintendent Colman, Kent Constabulary, . Sevenoaks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.—- Bow- Street, January 23. Stolen on the 21st instant, from the house of Mr. Bailey, in the borough of Abingdon,, a Single- cased gold . Watch, gold face, and, two Brooches, one gold. By a person who took lodgings there, aud represented himself as an upholsterer by trade and a Wesleyau preacher, he gave his name as THOMAS KINGLAND, and said he came from Grantham, Lincoln- shire ; he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 6 inches high, dark grey eyes,, black curly hair, bushy whiskers under chin, no moustache, rather. stout, dark complexion ; dressed in dark trousers and jacket, red woollen shirt, shabby boots, very- broad at the toes, and shabby round black hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawlins, Abingdon, Berks, by whom adl reasonable expenses will be paid.— Bow- street, January 23. Absconded from . Nantwich Union Workhouse, taking with them Union Clothing, aud stealing a suit of Clothes, the property of John Burgess, another inmate, consisting of a blue pilot Jacket, woollen Vest, moleskin Trousers, two pairs of Stockings, a Sliirt, two Flannels, a pair of Watertight Boots; and a black silk Handkerchief, which they are sup- posed to be wearing between them : PAUL MINSHULL, a returned convict, 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, with a white speck on each eye, a, tuft of brown hair on chin, and rather stout. WILLIAM JINKS, alias HENRY TAYLOR, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, long thin features, downcast look, brown hair, grey eyes, and slightly in kneed. Informa- tion to be given. to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, Cheshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, January 23. Absconded on the 12th instant, charged with stealing from 54, Elgin- road, St. PeterVpark, two silver salt Spoons, marked ' II. R. ;' an Indian brocade table Cloth ; two Sheets; and two Blaukets : a servant, 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in light cotton dress, black shawl and bonnet. — Metropolitan Police, X Division, January 23. Absconded on the 16th instant, charged with embezzling from No. 5, Vere- street, St. Marylebone : au errand boy, 18 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in brown cloth overcoat, light drab trousers, white riWktie, fastened with a large ring, black cloth cap with peak, iSte of No. 18, Newport Market, Leicester- square.— Metropo- litan Police, D Division, January 33. Absconded on the 10th instant, charged with embezzling .£ 100, from No. 76, Swinton- street, St. Paucras, a traveller, l& te of 15, Oxford- terrace, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, dark browu whiskers ami moustache ; dressed in dark blue coat, sealskin vest, drab trousers, bigh hat : supposed to be in the neighbourhood of " Walton on the Naze, Essex.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, January 23. Abscohded from Tiverton, charged with embezzlement : WALTER WHALLEY, a butcher's apprentice, 20 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, very, fresh looking, and light hair ; dressed in grey coat, drab trousers, dark topcoat, aud black billycock hat; is well known about Crewe ancl Aud- lem. .£ 1 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Infor- mation to be given to Superiutendent Gwynne, Tarpoiley, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 5i0. Stolen from a public- house at Reach, Cambs. on the 17th instant: a blue pilot Jacket, nearly new, has two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, velvet collar, sleeves lined with crimsou and body with purple mixture, also a silk Neck- tie, plaid pattern, and an old hair Brush. By a man, who lodged in the house, 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers; dressed iu dark cap, old cord jacket, patched and old corrt trousers, patched in front, and heavy shoes, one of them toe capped and fancy slit tongues. Information to be given to Inspector Greig, Police Station, Bottisham, Cambridge.— Bow- street, January 20. Absconded from Brottoti, near Saltburn by the- Sea, North Riding of Yorkshire, on the 6th instant, charged, with obtain- ing money by false pretences ( in concert with Henry Collins, • frho was commitced to take his trial at the next quarter Sessions to be held at Northallerton) : THOMAS HOLMES, an ironstone miner, native of the neighbourhood of London, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, grey eyes, light brown hair, sandy whiskers all round his face, proportionate make, and usually wears a fustian suit when at work, and when dressed, wears a blue pilot jacket and vest, brown cloth trousers, fancy lace- up boots, ancl glengarry cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Prest, Constabulary Office, Guisbrough, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 20. Absconded from Edinburgh, charged with embezzlement. WILLIAM WATT, a native of Edinburgh, an edge- tool m iker by trade, but lately a collector in the employment of the Edinburgh and Leith Gas Company, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair," bushy whiskers and moustache, round full face, slightly pockpitted, stout made ; dressed in dark tweed topcoat and trousers, and dress hat, but may be wearing a suit of light tweed clothes. Information to be given to Mr. Johnston, Procurator- Fiscal, City Chambers, or to tb<^ Superintendent of Police, Edinburgh. — Bow- street, January 26. Absconded from ' Manchester, charged on a warrant with forgery and embezzlement,; THOMAS WILLIAM BROWN, a clerk, about 28 years of age, 5 feet inches high, red uair, red stubby whiskars and moustache, rather pale full face, broad forehead, double chin, slovenly gait, and full staring eyes ; dressed respectably in dark clothes, and billycock hat. £ 10 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Manchester. — Bow- street, January 20. Absconded in October last, from the service of Mr. Cook, 98, Fleet- street, stealing a Railway Coupon Ticket, value £ d 6s. 5d, the property of his said master: LOUIS ROSEN- THAL, a German Jew, No. 15, Dudley- street, Seven Dia. s, about. .62 years of, age, £> feet 2 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, dark moustache, turning grey, no whiskers, bow legged, iitict walks with'a stooping gait ;• ' dossed in clai- k mixture overcoat, long waisted, and side- spripg . boots; speaks German, French, and English. Information to be given at the Fleet Street Statioh, London, E. C., where a warrant lies for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Januarty 18.
