Notice.— It is requested that all eo- jununications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article ill the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS fORGERY. Absconded from London, on the 24th November last, charged with forging and uttering a cheque for .£ 315, upon Messrs. Robarts and Company, bankers, Lombard- street : THOMAS HALLAM, has been known by the names of GRIFFITHS, LENNOX, and VEVAN, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, full hazel eyes, light brown hair, small sandy whiskers and moustache, moderate figure, is usually well dressed, and has served in the Royal Marines. £ 30 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to his apprehension, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, if given within 3 months from the 14th instant. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, during the night of the 20th instant, from the marine residence of J. Pease, Esq., Marske- by- the- Sea, a mahogany Box, from 3 to 4 feet long, about 6 inches square, containing a large brass Telescope, fitted wjth different lenses, and pedestal and claws ; a ditto, from 16 to 18 inches long when shut, inclosed in a green bag ; a ditto, about 9 inches long when shut, in black case, some supposed to have the name of ' Cook, maker, York ;' four woven Antimaccassars and one Crochet- work, of different coloured wools, one has a hole in the centre ; a large Table Cover, black ground and gold coloured flowers ; a ditto, dark brown ground, gold coloured flowers, each cover having fringe at the edges ; two Blankets, ' J. E. P.' in red wool at corner ; a crimson damask Bed Curtain, with hooks attached ; a piece if lilac Print, small pattern, used as a cover. Information to be • perintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabu- ng.— Bow- street, January 20. 1 and 5 p. m. on the 17th instant, the dwelling- Joseph Jenkinson, at Aketon, in the township as forcibly entered, and the following property • a blue pilot Overcoat, black velvet collar, plaid lining, two pockets outside, one inside as four bright black buttons on it; a black ockets and a watch pocket in left breast, tons, and light drab lining ; a pair of cloth d black stripe, broad stripes down sides, a plain cotton Shirt, without collar, lined n shoulders; a silver watch Guard, round woollen Muffler. An old brown ribbed cloth Coat, with velvet collar, and a red Handkerchief with round white spots, were left behind. On the night of the 17th instant, the house of William Pool, in Little Eaton, Derbyshire, was broken into, and the following Articles stolen : a brown Topcoat, with black velvet collar ; two black cloth Coats and Vests; a grey Coat and pair of Trousers; a black cloth Coat and Vest, old ; a dark spotted Coat: a pair of dark cloth Trousers, with invisible plaid squares ; a silk Handkerchief, cream coloured ground with lavender stars ; a silk Handkerchief, orange ground; two cotton Handkerchiefs, one red with white spots. Sup- posed to have been committed by two furnace men on tramp. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Lawson, Constabulary Office, Litchurch, near Derby.— Bow- street, January 20. Stolen on the night of the 15th instant, from the shop of Messrs. J. P. and G. Reeds, of Stokesley, grocers, by breaking and entering the back premises, about £ 3, consisting of Pennies and Halfpennies. Information to be given to Super- intendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton, or to Sergeant Clarkson, Police Office, Stokesley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 18. On the night of the 15th instant, the farm house at Haw- thornside, Roxburghshire, was broken into and stolen therein: a yellow leather pocket Book, containing three £ 5 Scotch bank Notes, four £ 1 ditto; a Half Sovereign, a small sum in Silver and Copper Money ; about 5s. worth of Postage and Receipt Stamps ; a bottle of Brandy ; a currant Loaf ; and a copy of the " Scotsman" newspaper, addressed to . Wm. Oliver, Esq., Langrune. Information to be given to the Con- stabulary, Jedburgh .- Bow- street, January 18. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a pawnbroker's shop at Saltcoats, Ayrshire, between the 11th and 12th inst. : 3 small gold Geneva Watches, with gold dials. 6 patent lever silver Watches, Nos. 3367, 4160, 1809, 9430, 6952, 6300. 12 patent lever silver Watches. 13 silver Watches, either verge or Geneva, Nos. 14723, 44299, 2615, 7423, 2793, 20931, 2535, 34223, 11770, 4354, 3793, 6754, 3364. About 27 old verge and Geneva Watches, valuable only as old silver. A long gold Guard, cable pattern. A number of gold Scarf- pins, one set with two rubies, others of masonic and other patterns. A lady's gold Brooch and two gilt Brooches., A lady's gold Necklet, snake pattern. About 300 gold finger Rins, both new and old, some set with various stones, others plain. 6 plain pewtei Table Spoons, new. 6 Knives and Forks, with white handles, new. A reward of £ 20 is offered for the recovery of the property and for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr, or to Superintendent Menzies, Ayrshire Con- stabulary, Dairy.— Bow- street, January 16. Stolen from a stable at Broke Mill, in the parish of Hayley, on the night of the 13th instant: a light brown cob Horse, about 15 hands high, rising 7 years old, black mane and tail, which is rather long, little white on face, small crack on fore foot, recently shod, and in good condition. £ 1 reward will be paid upon the restoration of the horse, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 16. Description of a Horse which was stolen between 12 p. m. on the 13th and 5 a. m. on the 14th instant, from a stable at Newstead, in the township of Lead : a light bay carting horse, 8 years old, 17 hands high, short mane and tail, hair rubbed off the tail and hip, one of the fore legs thicker than the other below the knee, fore feet shod and sharpened, low condition ; also a pair of Blinders and Halter. Information to be given to Superintendent Wardle, West Riding Con- stabulary, Selby.— Bow- street, January 16. Stolen between 5 and 9 p. m. on the 21st November last, from a field at the comer of Eastern and Oakfield- roads, Selly Park, in the county of Worcester, near Birmingham, the Scottish trotting Mare, ' Belle,' aged, bay brown colour, about 15 hands high, scar on one knee, a curb on one hock, and a scar on one hind heel, the remains of a sand crack in front, and poor brittle fore feet ; she was in foal, which she may by this time have dropped, in appearance a strong common mare, plain head and neck, of the long low class, ana without white. By two men : one of whom is about 35 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, well proportioned, round features, pockpitted, and clean shaved; generally wears a billycock hat, brim rather broad and flat. The other is taller, but cannot be described. £ 50 reward will be paid on conviction of the thief, and recovery of the mare, on appli- cation to Chief Inspector Manton, Detective Department, Moor- street, Birmingham.-^ Bow- street, January 16. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of WILLIAM JONEY, charged with stealing a Horse, at White Notley, on the 4th instant, since recovered he is 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light brown hair, fair complexion, little or no whiskers ; generally dressed in soft felt hat, brown cloth coat, vest, and trousers, with raised seams, fitting tight to his legs, formerly lived at Leyton or Woodford, Essex, and is no\ v supposed at Dulwich or Clapton. Information to be given to Superintendent Ackers, Police Station, Braintree, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 23. Stolen from a yard at Bexhill, during the night of the 16th instant: a bay cob Mare, about 15 years old, about 14 hands high, in good condition, rough coated, new shoes, one or both white hind feet, cannot lay down, having been hurt in left hind hip, and walks lame at times. Information to be given to Superintendent Jeffrey, Guestling, to P. C. Moore, Bexhill, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, January 20. Stolen from a field at Buttington during the night of the 12th instant: a dark brown cart Filly, rising 3 years old, in low condition, small white star on forehead, and no other white upon her, had not been shod or handled. Information to be given to Superintendent Strefford, Welshpool, or to Police Constable David Richards, Buttington, Montgomery- shire.— Bow- street, January 18. Found and supposed to have been stolen about the 23rd ultimo, at Mr. Reed's farm, Bromley, in the parish of Upper Arley, Staffordshire : a black Welsh mare Pony, aged, about 10 hands high, star on forehead, white spot on nose, and a white strake on the near hind leg. Information to be given to Sergeant Baldwin, Kinver, or to P. C. Farmer, Police Station, Upper Arley, near Bewdley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 18. Found, supposed to have been stolen, a dark brown Pony, 14 hands high, black mane and tail, hind feet white, white spot on nostril, and in good condition. Information to be given to Inspector Palmer, Longford, Coventry.— Bow street, January 16. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Brasted, Kent, charged with embezzle- ment, on the 18th instant: FREDERICK FULLER, 16 yrs. of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark brown hair and eyes, fresh complexion, rather stout built, round shoulders, and scar on left side of neck ; dressed in light coloured trousers, with brown stripe down the sides, dark mixture jacket, dark vest, round hard felt hat, and new lace- up boots, specked and nailed ; supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Croydon, Surrey, or Woolwich, Kent. Information to be given to Superintendent Colman, Kent Constabulary, Sevenoaks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January/ 23. Stolen on the 21st inst, ant, from the house of Mr. Bailey, in the borough of Abingdon, a single- cased gold Watch, gold face, and two Brooches, one gold. By a person who took lodgings there, and represented himself as an upholsterer by trade and a Wesleyan preacher, he gave his name as THOMAS KINGLAND, and said he came from Grantham, Lincoln- shire ; he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 6 inches high, dark grey eyes, black curly hair, bushy whiskers under chin, no moustache, rather stout, dark complexion ; dressed in dark trousers and jacket, red woollen shirt, shabby boots, veiy broad at the toes, and shabby round black hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawlins, Abingdon, Berks, by whom all reasonable expenses will be paid.— Bow- street, January 23. Absconded from Nantwich Union Workhouse, taking with them Union Clothing, and stealing a suit of Clothes, the property of John Burgess, another inmate, consisting of a blue pilot Jacket, woollen Vest, moleskin Trousers, two pairs of Stockings, a Shirt, two Flannels, a pair of watertight Boots ; and a black silk Handkerchief, which they are sup- posed to be wearing between them : PAUL MINSHULL, a returned convict, 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, with a white speck qn each eye, a tuft of brown haiitecn chin, and rather stout. WILLIAM JINKS, alias HENry TAYLOR, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, long thin features, downcast look, brown hair, grey eyes, and slightly in kneed. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, Cheshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, January 23. Absconded on the 12th instant, charged with stealing from 54, Elgin- road, St. Peter's- park, two silver salt Spoons, marked 1 H. R. ;' an Indian brocade table Cloth; two Sheets; and two Blankets : a servant, 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in light cotton dress, black shawl and bonnet. — Metropolitan Police, X Division, January 23. By a man who lodged in the house, 19 years of age, 5- feet 5 W 6 inches High, pale swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskey; dressed in dark cap, old cord'jacket, patched and old corcj trousers, patched in front, and heavy shoes, one of them toe capped and fancy slit tongues. Absconded from Brotton, near Saltburn by- the- Sea, North Riding of Yorkshire, on the 6th instant, charged with obtain- ing money by false pretences ( in concert with Henry Collins, who was" committed to take his trial at the next quarter sessions to be held at Northallerton) : THOMAS HOLMES, an ironstone miner, native of the neighbourhood of London, 22 years of . age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, grey eyes, light brown hair, sandy, whiskers all round his face, proportionate ma, ke, anil usually wears a fustian suit when at work, and when dressed, wears a . blue pilot jacket and vest, brown cloth trousers, fancy lace up boots, and glengarry cap. Absconded from Edinburgh, charged with embezzlement, WILLIAM WATT, a native of Edinburgh, an edge- tool maker by trade, but lately a collector in the employment of the Edinburgh and Leith Gas Company, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, bushy whiskers and moustache, round full face,, slightly pockpitted, stout made ; dressed in . dark, tweed topcoat and trousers, and dress hat, but may be wearing a suit of light tweed clothes. City Chambers, or to the Superintendent of Police, Edinburgh. — Bow- street, January 20. •> Absconded from Manchester, charged on a warrant wuh forgery and embezzlement: THOMAS WILLIAM BROWN, a clerk, about 28 years of age, 5 feet lOjj inches high, red hair, red stubby whiskers and moustache, rather pale full face, broad, forehead, double chin, slovenly gait, and full staring eyes; dressed respectably in dark clothes, and billycock hat. £ 10 reward will be paid for his apprehension. -. Absconded in October last, from the service of Mr. Cook, 98, Fleet- Street, stealing a Railway Coupon Ticket, value £ 6 6s. 5d , the property of his said master: LOUIS ROSEN- THAL, a German Jew, No. 15, Dudley- street, Seven Dials, about 62 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, dark moustache, turning grey, no whiskers, bow legged, and walks with a stooping gait ; dressed hi dark mixture overcoat, long waisted, and side- spring boots'; speaks German, French, and English. Information to be given at the Fleet Street Station, London, E. C., where a warrant lies for< his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 18. Absconded from Gloucester, on the 5th instant, charged, with embezzling the sum of £ 2 9s., the monies of his em- ployers: FRANCIS WILLIAM BEARD, a clerk, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, thin made, long features, pale complexion, brown hair, and has a peculiar way of placing his lower lip in his mouth ; dressed in a round hard bowler hat, dark mixture suit of clothes, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, January 18. Description of SAMUEL BRACEGIRDLE, charged with stealing wearing Apparel, from the house of Thomas Pollitt, of 31, Edward- street, Stockport: he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 j inches high, stout, brown hair and whiskers, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, has a cut on centre of forehead ; dressed in a dark pilot coat, cotton cord trousers and vest, black billycock hat, with wire rim, is a labourer, and was discharged from the Knutsford House of Correction, on the 10th of October last, after having been imprisoned 6 months for felony, at Knutsford ; he is a native of Mobberley, near Knutsford, and he is supposed to be searching for work between Altrincham and Liverpool; he was reported, in the Police Gazette of the 14th October last, as an Habitual Criminal. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Moores, Stockport, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. -— Bow- street, January 18., Stolen from the yard of the Three Horse Shoes Hotel, Rugby, about 7 p. m. on the 7th instant, a travelling Rug ( recovered) : by a sweep, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather stout, sandy whiskers, thick and bushy on chin, fresh complexion, and dressed in dark slop, torn up back of left sleeve, blue monkey jacket underneath, left side pocket torn, black cord trousers, patched on both kneas, elastic- side boots, and dark cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Wild, Rugby, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, January 16. Description of SAMUEL SHENTON, fishmonger, who is charged upon a warrant with larceny, as bailee of certain Monies and Fish Property- of Walter Pierce, of Wellington, fishmonger. He is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair, no whiskers, very small light moustache, silver ring on fourth finger left hand, and a native: of Stafford ; dressed in black cloth monkey jacket with black velvet collar, cloth trousers, lace- up boots, black cloth cap, made to turn down over the ears, and black and white muffler. Information to be given to Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop, wkere a warrant lies for his apprehension.— Bow- street., January 16. Description of GEORGE HALL, a stableman, charged with stealing 12s. 6d. at Shotover, near Oxford, on the 26th ultimo, the Monies of Elizabeth Baker : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, hair and whiskers; likely to be found at the Devonport Arms, near Paddington Railway Station, or the Hetherington Livery Stables, Edgware- road.
