The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which mayjead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purposa of tracing and recovering them. No. 4991 FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 1871. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may ilfar the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AN © WILFUL BURNING. During the night of the 5th instant, a stack of Hay was wilfully set on fire, the property of Mr. John Ford, Sydney Arms, Church, Coppenhall. One Guinea reward will be paid by the Monks Coppenhall Association, to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender, or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Acting Inspector Wood, Crewe.— JHow- street, January 11. woollen Shirts, black and scarlet Stripes. A pair of the stolen boots have been found pledged by a man, from 30 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, and stout built; dressed in old dark pilot jacket, old brown vest, white moleskin trousers, and dark worsted cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Airton, Dewsbury.— limo- striet. January 13. Between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 1st instant, the par- sonage at Broughton, was broken and entered, and three silver Tea Caddies, and a silver Caddy Spoon, stolen therein : Supposed by t\ yo tramps, about 20 years of age, one about 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in black cloth cap, short black cloth jacket, and old patent leather leggings. The other a little shorter ; dressed in an old grey topcoat, which was much too big for him. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Thomas, Police Station, Mold, Flintshire— Bow- street, January 4. Between 1 and 2 on the morning of the 25th ultimo, the house of Isaac Delahoy, toll gate keeper, of the parish of Rushmere, was entered by two men, supposed from 30 to 40 years of age, one about 5 feet § or 9 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, and billycock hat, and mask on face ; the other a little taller, dressed in dark clothes, and billycock hat, small whiskers ; they stole about £ 9 in Money. Information to be given to P. C. Chase, Tuddenham, Ipswich.— Bow- street, January 2. Between 10 p. m. and 3 a. m. on the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Edginton, of Play Hatch, No. 20665 ; a gold Geneva lever, enamelled dial, No. 3340; a keyless lever, No. 1040; a Geneva keyless lever, enamelled dial, No. 40087 ; and a verge, maker Tobias, No. 5920.— Me- tropolitan Police, C Division, January 13. Absconded on the 7th instant, charged with stealing from the Stingo Arms beershop, Russell- street, Bermondsey, £ 5 in Money, a potman, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, hair and whiskers ; dressed in a light stripe coat, side pockets, dark trousers and cap.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, January 13. Description of WILLIAM ATKINS, a private marine, Portsmouth Division, Forton Barracks, Gosport, who abscon- ded on or about the 20th ultimo, charged with stealing from the quarters of Lt. Francis Mordaunt Shairp, his master : a dark Suit ; a dark dress Coat and Yest; a pair of dress Boots ; a velvet Coat and Yest; a pair of light Trousers ; some Neckties ; a brown Overcoat ; two| Pipes ; a gold Ring; a gold Pencil Case ; several silver and copper Foreign Coins ; and a £ 5 Bank Note : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet inches high, slight build, a native of Islington, London, where he is likely to be found, supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes. Stolen on the 31st ultimo, from the person of a young man, an old pair- case silver verge Watch, No. ( supposed) 1864, ' Richard Worthington, Tanrallt,' engraved on the inside case. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to . Sergeant Owen, Llanidloes, Montgomery- shire.— Bow- street, January 11. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Station at Bury, about 8' 45 p. m. on the 31st ultimo : a double cased gold lever Watch, the bow attached to the watch Guard was wrenched off. By a man about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light hair, pale complexion, rather thin features ; dressed in a grey overcoat and a grey billycock hat. He was accompanied by a woman about 26 years of age, of middle size, aud wearing a red plaid shawl ; the same man was seen at the Railway Station, Bolton, and when spoken to, ran away. r£ 2 reward will be paid for tbe apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the watch. Stolen on the morning of the 31st ultimo, from the person of a gentleman, in a railway train between Crewe and Chester, a silver lever Watch, gold joints and balance, coloured dial, jewelled in 4 pairs extra, maker Thos. Hambleton, Birken- head, No. 11597 ; a gold albert Chain, square thick link, with a small diamond shaded ornament on cach link, marked ' 9 carat;- and a small gold locomotive Engine, with four wheels ; a gold Locket, chased on each side, aud steel Key. A reward of 3 Guineas will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the above property and conviction of the offender or offenders, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen by housebreaking, about 4 a. m. on the 11th inst., from No. 45, Elvaston- place, Kensington : a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, blue enamel back set with a circle of hearts a lady's gold Chain, with gold and coral bead fastenings, and a number of Charms attached; 4 gold Rings— 1 turquoise hoop, 1 pearl half hoop, 1 with diamond in centre, surrounded by emeralds, and 1 blue cluster turquoise, with pearl in centre; a pearl Necklace with amythyst clasp ; a gold link Bracelet with turquoise fastening in shape of a claw ; 4 gold Seals— 1 with crest a hand and dagger, motto ' Spes meando,' 1 en- graved with representation of a column enlivened by ivy, and 2 plain ; a gold Pencil- case, set with emeralds and turquoise ; a silver Top of scent bottle ; and a large cameo Brooch, subject the figure of a female.— Metropolitan Police, T Divi- sion, January 13. Between 12 midnight 6th and 8 a. m. on the 7th instant, a lock- up shop at Birkenshaw, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about 10s. in Silver; about 20s. in copper; three pairs of men's new elastic- side Boots ; eight men's On the niglit of the 7th instant a South Down Ewe Sheep was slaughtered in a field at Clewer, and the carcass carried off, the head and skin being left behind. Absconded on the 9th instant, charged with stealing six Watches, a Frenchman, late of No. 52, Albany- road, Camberwell, 52 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair com- plexion, grey moustache, no whiskers; dressed in dark clothes and high hat. Description of watches : an open- fo English lever, No. 9853; a horizontal repeat^ silyey horn, Hailsham ; to the Sergeant on Duty, Eastbourne ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, January 11. Stolen from the Royal Exchange Inu, Stone, on the 31st ultimo : a pair of Trousers and a Waistcoat,, since found pledged at Stafford, by a man who slept in the house the night before, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark hair, little or no whiskers, very much pock- marked, has lost one eye ; dressed in a top hat, dark cloth coat, brown cloth trousers, with dark stripe down the side,. and old shabby boots. Committed for trial at the adjourned sessions, to be held at Knutsford, on a charge of receiving brass Steps, well knowing them to have been stolen, at Sandbach: SAMUEL ROWLEY, 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow com plexion, dark brown hair and whiskers, grey eyes, has lost the left leg, marks under the chin, and on left cheek, goes about the country selling toys, and collecting rags from children, says he is a native of Burton- on- Trent.
