Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together witt the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Setters addressed to the Editor must be ( trepald, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as thoso from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of " State for War, War Office; Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS to Superintendent Coates, Police Station, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon.— Bow- street, January 2. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. During the night of the 5th instant, a stack of Hay was wilfully set on fire, the property of Mr. John Ford, Sydney Arms, Church, Coppenhall. One Guinea reward will be paid by the Monks Coppenhall Association, to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Acting Inspector Wood, Crewe.— Bow- street, January 11. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from. New Barn Farm, Cudham, the property of Mr. Hogben, a fat Kent wether Sheep, 2 years old, tip cut off right ear and notched, and marked down back and across the rump. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Colman, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, January 11. Stolen from a stable at Rocthampton on the night of the 8th instant : a brown nag Mare, 7 years old, 15 hands 2 inches high, white star; in the forehead, tan coloured nose, collar mark on each shoulder, has been clipped, and tail cut square above the hocks, in good condition, the property of Mr. John Cox, of Rockhampton. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Ellison, Police Office, Chipping Sodbury, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, Jauuary II. On the night of the 7th instant a South Down Ewe Sheep was slaughtered in a field at Clewer, and the carcass carried off, the head and skin being left behind. Information to be given to Inspector Mansell, County Police Station. Clewer, Berks.— Bow- street, January 11. Stolen from a field at Bosom's End, Smethwick, near Birmingham, during the night of the 22nd ultimo, a dappled grey mare Pony, 12 hands high, about i) years old ; and a dark brown Colt, 6 months old, white fetlocks, white star on forehead. Information to be given to Inspector Ordish, Police Office, Smethwick, near Birininghatn. r— Bow- street. January 4. Stolen on the 5th ultimo, from a field at Mumbles, near Swansea, a dark brown mare Pony, 5 years old, 13| hands high, has a small white saddle mark, switch tail, and starky mane, the property of David Eley. Information to be given to Superintendent Howlett, Constabulary Office, Neath Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, January 4. William Kingsland, his master: WILLIAM HEFFER, a miller and baker, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, bald head, whiskers meeting under the chin, scar under left eye; dressed in light worsted cord trousers, light mixture coat, black oilskin overcoat, high crowned hat, and lace- up boots; has relatives residing at Cro\ don and Guilford, Surrey, and at Bexley, Kent. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Colman, Kent Consta- bulary, Sevenoaks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, January 9. Description of JOHN BAYLISS, charged with stealing the sum of £ 1 10s. the monies of William Cox and another, liis masters. He is 27 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionately made, fresh com- plexion, dark hair, small dark whiskers and moustache, a prominent nose, and of good address ; dressed respectably in dark clothes. A reward of £ 10 will be paid for his appre- hension. Information to be given to Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Boio- street, January 9. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Station at Bury, about 8' 45 p. m. on the 31st ultimo : a double cased gold lever Watch, the bow- attached to the watch Guard was wrenched off. By a. man about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light hair, pale complexion, rather thin features ; dressed in a grey overcoat and a grey billycock hat. He was accompanied by a woman about 26 years of age* of middle size, and wearing a red plaid shawl ; the same man was seen at the Railway Station, Bolton, and when spoken to, ran away. ,62 reward will be paid for the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the watch. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, or to Superintendent Milne, Bury. — Bow- street, January 9. Stolen on the morning of the 31st ultimo, from the person of a gentleman, in a railway train between Crewe and Chester, a silver lever Watch, gold joints and balance, coloured dial, jewelled in 4 pairs extra, maker Thos. Hambleton, Birken- head No. 11597 ; a gold albert Chain, square thick link, with a small diamond shaded ornament on each link, marked ' 9 carat;' and a small gold locomotive Engine, with four wheels ; a gold Locket, chased on each side, and steel Key, A reward of 3 Guineas will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the above property and conviction of the offender or offenders, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given at the Police Office, Town Hall, Chester.— Bow- street, January 4. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the lst instant, the par sonage at Broughton, was broken and entered, and three silver Tea Caddies, and a silver Caddy Spoon, stolen therein : Supposed by two tramps, about 20 years of age, one about 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in black cloth cap, short black cloth jacket, and old patent leather leggings. The other a little shorter ; dressed in an old grey topcoat, which was much too big for him. Information to be given to Superin tendent Thomas, Police Station, Mold, Flintshire— Bow- street, January 4. Between 1 and 2 on the morning of the 25th ultimo, the house of Isaac Delahoy, toll gate keeper, of the parish of Rushmere, was entered by two men, supposed from 30 to 40 years of age, one about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, and billycock hat, and mask on face ; the other a little taller, dressed in dark clothes, and billycock hat, small - whiskers ; they stole about £ 9 in Money, Information to be given to P. C. Chase, Tuddenham, Ipswich.— Bow- street, January 2. Between 10 p. m. and 3 a. m. on the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Edginton, of Play Hatch, near Reading, was entered by breaking a pane of glass in the dining room window, and lifting up the sash, and stolen therein, £ 12 12s. in Gold and Silver, and two small silver Tea Spoons, fiddle pattern, not marked. Information to be given LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description of WILLIAM ATKINS, a private marine, Portsmouth Division, Fort, on Barracks, Gosport, who abscon- ded on or about the 20tli ultimo, charged with stealing from the quarters of Lt. Francis Mordaunt Shairp, his master dark Suit ; a dark dress Coat and Vest; a pair of dress Boots; a velvet Coat and Vest; a pair of light Trousers ; some Neckties; a brown Overcoat; two,:. Pipes ; a gold Ring; a gold Pencil Case ; several silver and copper Foreign Coins ; and a £ 5 Bank Note : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 5-],- inches high, slight build, a native of Islington, London, where he is likely to be found, supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes. A warrant has been granted for his apprehension. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Hornigold, Plants Consta- bulary, Gosport.— Bow- street, . January 11. Absconded on the 31st ultimo, from 112, Belgrave road, Pimlico, charged with embezzling £ 2 7s., and other monies : a coachman, 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow com- plexion, small black hail- and whiskers ; dressed in new pepper- and- salt coloured suit, and round felt hat.—- Metro- politan Police, B Division, January 11. Description of RICHARD WALTERS, labourer, who absconded from Brad worthy, Devon, on the night of the 11th ultimo, charged with stealing a Sack and six pecks of Wheat ( the sack since recovered), the property of Philip Rice Barfitt he is 34 or 35 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, ( lark brown hair, sandy whiskers meeting under the chin, and light complexion. Information to be given to Superintendent Barbor, Devon Constabulary, Holsworthy, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 11. Further information respecting JOSEPH COULTON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant, charged with stealing £ 104, the property of his master, Mr. Harrison Love, of Walsingham, in the county of Durham. Coulton had been drinking to excess before he absconded and was threatened with an attack of delirium tremens. Information to be given to Superintendent Robinson, Durham Con- stabulary, Stanhope.— Bow- street, January 11. Description of a man named CHARLES MOON, alias BANT MOON, who absconded from Eastbourne, on the 8th instant, charged wiiSi stealing four live tame Rabbits, the property of Francis Watson, Willingdon, East Sussex : about lg years of agg", 5 feet 2 inches higii, fresh complexion, no whiskers, - thirk brown hair, aud stout made ; dreased when last seen in grey cloth coat, light cord trousers, and dark cap, with peak. Information to be given to Superintendent Wag horn, Hailsham ; to the Sergeant on Duty, Eastbourne ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, January 11. Stolen from the Royal Exchange Inn, Stone, on the 31st ultimo : a pair of Trousers and a Waistcoat, since found pledged at Stafford, by a man who slept in the house the niglit before, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark hair, little or no whiskers, very much pock- marked, has lost one eye ; dressed in a top hat, dark cloth coat, brown cloth trousers, with dark stripe down the side, and old shabby boots. Information to be given to Superin teudent Crisp, Stone, Staffordshire.— Bow- itreet, January 9. Absconded from Sundridge, ou the 30th ultimo, charged with embezzling various sums of money belonging to Mark Absconded on the 29th ultimo, charged with embezzling about £ 7 : a clerk, 27 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, moustache and whiskers, slight build, of gentlemanly appearance.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, January 9. Stolen from Sotherton Hall about 4 p. m. on the 4th inst., the following property : 12 silver Spoons— 8 Table, 3 Dessert, and one Gravy. 6 silver Forks— 2 Table, 4 Dessert! 1 silver Soup Ladle. 1 Sauce Ladle, crest a kangaroo's head with arrow through nose. By a man of the following description : small made, thin features, talks loud, about 50 years of age, small eyes, dirty looking ; dressed in long dark coat, Kgkt trousers, cap without peak, very large crown, and strong boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Wardle, West Riding Constabulary, Yorkshire.— Brno- street, January 9. Description of ELLEN TIPPER, alias MARY ANN TIPPER or DIPPER, charged with breaking and entering the dwelling- house of Harriett Wallis, at Birmingham, and stealing therein £ 40, lier monies : she is about 25 years of age, tall and thin made, light complexion and hair, peculiar expression of the eyes, and prominent nose ; dressed in light winsey dress, plaid skirt, flounced at the bottom, long grey cloak, kid boots, and straw bonnet, with red and white flowers, all quite new. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Detective Department, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, January 9. Stolon from a lodging- house in Ellesmere, on the 6th inst., a pair of men's lace- up Boots, have been soled, brass eyelet- holes, nails out of left lieel, right heel mended lately : by a tramp ( who left his own behind him), 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, round fat face, dark hair, and speaks slowly; dressed in tweed jacket, cord trousers, and jimcrow hat; has been in the Shrewsbury Militia. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, to to Sergeant Duncan, Ellesmere, Salop.— Bow- street, January 9. Absconded, charged with stealing since the 24tli ultimo, from 1, Boston Park- road, Old Brentford : nine boy's linen Shirts ; a flannel ditto ; four pairs of cotton Drawers ; a boy's blue pilot Overcoat; an Oxford mixture Vest; a light tweed ditto ; two pairs of light tweed Trousers ; and a brown rip Skirt : a servant, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes ; dressed in black, brown shawl, and bonnet. - - Metropolitan Police, T Division, January 9. Stolen on the 4th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mrs. Maria Seward, Crown Inn, in the parish of Llandogo, Monmouthshire, £ 5 in Silver. By a man who slept in the house three nights prior to the robbery : about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, rather dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers turning grey, and recently cropped on side of face ; dressed in dark grey jacket, vest, and trousers, black billycock or bowler hat, and old elastic- side boots ; is a baker, and states he has kept a large business of his own in London and Herefordshire, and is a native of Kent. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Usk ; to Superintendent Llewellin, Usk ; or to Sergeant Waters, County Constabulary, Monmouth.— Bow- st., Jan. 9. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, from No. 104, Page's- walk, Bermondsey, charged with stealing £ 2 17s. : a lodger, 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion and hair; dressed in dark reefing jacket, light cord trousers, and round felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, January 6. Absconded on the 29th ultimo, from the Berks Lunatic Asylum ( charged with stealing £ 5 in Gold, the property of Mr. Edwin Stott, the secretary), the hall porter, about 30 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7i inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, dark hair, no whiskers, slight dark moustache, proportionate make, and dressed in a brown overcoat, new dark suit of clothes, and billycock hat. Supposed to have gone to London, having an acquaintance at Fenchurch- street Station. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Johnson, Wallingford, Berks.— Bow- street, January 6. Stolen from au officer of the Royal Marines at Ports- mouth ; a light suit of Clothes ; a dark ditto ; a dress Coat'; a Vest; a pair of Boots ; a velvet Coat; a velvet Vest; a Shako ; a pair of light Trousers ; two Pipes ; some Neckties; a brown great Coat; some Linen, Flannel, & c.; a pair of silver Buckles for braces ; three cat's eye Studs, set in silver j a gold Ring, sapphire ; a gold pencil Case, marked ' Ed. E. Emanuel, 101, High- street, Portsmouth ;' a gold neck- tie Clasp, with diamond set in blue enamel; a gold split Ring ; a gold five franc Piece, with a hole in it; several silver foreign Coins ; two gold Japanese Coins; many old Copper ditto; a £ 5 Note, No. not given ; several odd gold Studs ; and a silver ditto. By an absentee from the Royal Marines, 20 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes ; dresse" d in brown overcoat, velvet collar, drab trousers, and felt hat; a native of Islington.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, January 6. Description of JOHN PHILLIP GAHAGAN, ste.^ axd's clerk, who absconded from his situation at the Earlswood Asylum, Redhill, on the 7th instant, charged with stealing about £ 10, the'monies of Mr. John Brown, the. steward : he is 26 years of age, ,5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, light moustache, stout made, walks erect ; dressed in black frock coat and trousers, side- spring boots, and black silk hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Rogers Police Station, Reigate.— Bow- street, January % Description of a woman named MARTHA EDWARDS, who absconded from Oswestry on the 12th October last charged with stealing a dress Skirt, two Petticoats, two pairs of Drawers, a Chemise, and a Table Cloth : 25 years of agq, short, stout make, black wavy hair, dark complexion, and la, rge cut mark on centre of upper' lip ^ dressed when she absconded in a black shawl or jacket, black dress, and blacf: bonnet. Information to be given to Superintendent Gought, or Sergeant Thomas, Oswestry, Salop, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, January 2. Description of SYDNEY BLACKBURN, a tramping tailor, charged with stealing a Sovereign at Kirton- in- LindseJ on the 27th instant: he is 25 years, of age, 5 feet inches high, very sickly looking, light brown hair, grey eyes, roun*} visage, slender build, has lost some of his front teeth, and is a native of Fawcett, near Darlington ; dressed in black bffiy- r cock hat with soft top and stiff brim, black cloth coat witl> velvet collar, snuff- coloured vest, no collar, bound with broatf black braid, and has two pockets on each side, black cloth trousers, and old boots ; he has been twice convicted of felony ; he will call on his trade in towns and villages, and lodge ai unions, public- houses, and lodging- houses; he talks muclj about having worked at Oxford. Information to. be given to Superintendent Jarvis, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.— Bow- Street, December 30. Description of a man for whom a warrant is issued on ^ charge of stealing Poultry at Newton- Toney and North Ted- worth, Wilts, on the night of the 13th instant, also stealing pair of short black leather Leggings, and a pair of elastic- side Boots on the night of 16th instant, from North Tedworth, which he was seen wearing on the 17th : he is about 5 feet 6 inches high, 24 years of age, full face, no whiskers, dark hair, and dressed in an old cord jacket, old slop, elastic- side boots, and black leggings : he had a basket with him, and| upwards of a hundred wires for taking game, when he was) seen on the borders of Hants, Wilts, aud Berks. Was laslj seen at Inkpen, Berks, On the 26th, at a beer- house where he sold the elastic- side boots, which have been recovered, thy basket containing the wires has also been recovered, the black leather leggings are still missing, which he is supposed to be wearing Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretten, Marlborough, Wilts.— BoWrStreet, December 30. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of a man calling himself LIEUTENANT CLARKE, late of the 60th Rifles, charged with obtaining Five Shillings, under false pretences, from Mrs. Sedgwick, of Great Houghton, on the 16th ultimo. He is from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, rather stout, light hair, whiskers, aud moustache, inclined to be sandy, sallow com- plexion ; dressed in brown coat, soldier's trousers with stripe cut out, and white billycock hat. He was accompanied by a woman who was far advanced in pregnancy- Information to be given to Superintendent Poole, Wellingborough, or to Inspector Williamson, Northampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 9. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, on the 4th instant, charged with obtaining about £ 60 worth of Jewellery and other Articles, by false pretences, and for whose apprehension a warrant is issued : MURRAY KELLY, calling himself LIEUTENANT KELLY, of H. M. S. Lord Chancellor, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, chin shaved, very sallow com- plexion, walks erect, speaks in a low soft tone of voice, of good address, and gentlemanly manners; dressed when last seen in a short dark coat, light trousers, with dark stripes, round black hat, and carries a stick, sometimes dressed in a blue coat, with two rows of brass anchor buttons, and naval cap, with peak and badge. He stated he had been wrecked, and was at sea 10 days in an open boat, and lost his chest oi clothes. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells.- Bow- street, January 9, Description of a man who is charged Upon a warrant with obtaining Money by false pretences : he gave his name JOHN SCHMIDT, 26, St. James'- street, and 27, Cavendish- street, Brighton, a German, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 26 years of age, light sandy hair and whiskers, teeth almost bjack, dressed in a fashionable suit of grey and red tweed, and carries a reversible coat with him. Information to be given to Inspector Thomas, Kineton, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, January 6. Enfield,. Epping, Stratford, and North East of Eondon, has been iix prison in London'; Information to be given to the Governor of Hertford Gaol, or to Inspector Ryder, Stortford, Herts.— Bow- street, January ll:. Descriptioii/ of a Child found aliva at 9; § , 0 p. m. on the 27th ult., in a jffalk leading from Station- street to Nantwich- road, i « the to^ aship of Crewe : a female, about 9 months old, light saiidy.' hair, blue eyes, full cheeks, but thin in the body, two upper teeth, and one lower one nearly through ; dressed iu grey and puce woollen knitted hood', blue stuff tippet, dark lilac frock, white holland pinafore, white cotton socks, and patent leather \> oot § ; has been dry- nursed. Description of licence- holders who have failed to report themselves at a Metropolitan Police Station, as required by the Penal Servitude Act, 1864 : JAMES PEARSON, No. 8080, 31 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh coiaplesion, light t> ro; w » hair, hazel § yes, moles, on arms, breast, between eyebrows, and oil back, scars on left arm and back of neck ; was sentenced to 7 years penal servitude at Chelmsford Sessions for larceny and previous convictions for felony, his sentence will expire 3rd January, 1872. MARGARET J. TOOMBES, No. 33, 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair-, darl4 grey eyes ( blind of left), scar under right eye, short thumbs ; was sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude at Maidstone Sessions for larceuy, her sentence will expire 28th February, 1873. These licence- holders cannot be found at the addresses given by them, aud they are to, be apprehended by any constable, at any time prior to date of expiration of sentence, and the fact reported immediately to the Commissioner of Police oi the Metropolis, London, S. W.— Metropolitan. Police, Jan. 11. Missing from his home at Manea, in the Isle of Ely, on the 4th ultimo, and has not been heard of since, and it i;* feared some ill has befallen him : LEONARD IBRETT, son of Joseph Ibbett, watchmaker, ll| years of age short ami rather stout, fair complexion, rather full face, and nose flat between the eyes, grey eyes, and light brown hair ; dressed in new double- breasted, pilot, black clotli coat, black corded sleeve vest, mixed grey cloth trousers, black cloth cap with peak, with his name in full inside; he ha, s a relative residing near Manchester. Information to be given to Inspector Mitchell, Chatteris.— Bow- street, Jamuary 9.
