C. jver it is desired hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be J) repaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for " War, " War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ARSON given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough.— Bow- street, October 4. Between 8 p. m. lst and 7 a. m. on the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Sarah Eaglesfield, of " Wellesley, Derby- shire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : an old brown silk Umbrella, with crooked bone handle ; a white calico Nightdress; a white cambric Pocket- handkerchief, marked ' S. E., No. 3,' in ink ; a small silver Tea Spoon, marked ' C.;' a small silver Caddy Spoon ; two nickle silver Tea Spoons; two Razors, black handles; an oval- shaped Razor- case ; a pair of small steel Scissors; about 2i lbs. of Cheese ; some Tea and Coffee ; six bottles of " Wine, three ginger, three dandelion. Also from a stable adjoining, a brown baragan Slop ; part of a Bridle Rein ; and part of a stirrup Leather. Information to be given to Superintendent Carline, Con- stabulary Office, " Wooden Box, Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, November 4. Stolen from a cottage near Horsham, by means of house- breaking, on the 30th ultimo : a Monkey Jacket, with black bone buttons, and plaid lining ( torn under left arm) ; a white cotton Shirt, nearly new ; and an old billycock Hat, lining torn out. Supposed by two tramps, who are making their way into Hampshire, as they were traced in that direction one is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, and dressed in old brown coat, buttoned close up to the chin, and old cord trousers, ragged at the bottom of the legs ; the other is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and dressed in an old dirty white slop, sleeve torn at the elbow, and old cord trousers ; they are supposed to be wearing the stolen property. Information to be given to Superintendent Blake, " West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- street, November 4. On the night of the 30th ultimo, between 6; 30 and 8 p. m., the vicarage, Ogley Hay, situated at Brownhills, near " Walsall, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a silver- plated Communion Service—- a large Flagon ( with lid, surmountedl by a cross), Chalice, Paten, and Alms Dish, all marked with ' S. James, Ogley Hay,' and name of donors ; a silver- plated Salver, marked ' C. S.' with the C crossed out; two sugar Basins, one lined with gilt, the other open work for glass basin ; a small cruet Stand ; a biscuit canister Stand ; two pairs of sugar Tongs ; two plated Skewers ; two pairs of nut Crackers ; a pair of plated Forks ; a soup Ladle ; two sauce Ladles; a gravy Spoon ; a moist sugar Spoon ; a caddy Spoon : six egg Spoons, lined with gilt ; two knife Rests; ten tea Spoons ; thirteen dessert Spoons ; ten small Forks ; six large ditto ; four salt Spoons ; six table Spoons ; plated Tops of bottles in dressing case ; a hair Bracelet, imitation gold, inlaid with enamel bracelet, one without enamel ; one jet, one ivory, one silver twist, and one pebble Brooch, BILL, charged with forgery at Aylesbury : 35 years of age, i mounted with silver ; a mourning Ring, with place for hair, 5, feet 6-£ inches high, ruddy complexion, sandy hair and | wjth the name of ' Singleton'inscribed, and dated 1836 ; and whiskers; dressed in dark cloth jacket and vest, light grey1 trousers, and black billycock hat ; he is a printer, travelling following description, who were seen in a public- bouse in the neighbourhood of Kingillie about 10 p. m. on the 25th, and appeared to be entire strangers : one is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark hair and whiskers ( short and thick round the chin), thin face, and dressed in dark coat, trousers, and cap ; spocke with a south country dialect; the other is 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches bigh, fair hair andwhiskers, and wore a grey tweed topcoat ( much too large for him). Information to be given to Chief Constable Murray, Inver- ness.— Bow- street, October 31. AND WILFUL BURNING. Between 10 and 11 a. m. on the 19th instant, a fire broke out in the farm building of Mr. Samuel Pritchard, of Cefnllyfnog, in the parish of Llansaintffraid, whereby a barn, three bays, and a cart- house, containing oats, barley, straw, and implements were destroyed. Supposed by a tramp, from 50 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair, full whiskers turning grey, and down- looking; and wore a broad- brimmed low- crowned black hat, the crown covered with black oilskin, and dark clothes ; he carried a long stick like a drover, spoke a little Welsh, and was begging. A reward of £ 10 10s. will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Strefford, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Williams, Liansaintffraid, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, October 28. FORGERY. Description of H. W. HUGHES, alias HEREFORD about the country with a trade card, No. 256, belonging to H. Wightman, of Hertford. Information to be given to Superintendent Denson, Aylesbury, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 4. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from a gentleman in Oldham, on the 27th ultimo, a silver lever centre- seconds stop Watch, 20 size, No. 26775, maker Jas. Winterbottom, Oldham, on the dial and move- ments, engine- turned case with oval shield in the centre, gold hinges, had attached a gold Guard, belcher pattern, stamped ' 9 carat,' one of the links is broken near the swivel1 and tied with a string. £ 2 reward will be paid for the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the property. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Oldham, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 2. Stolen on the 17th inst., from the person of a gentleman at Fazeley, Staffordshire, a gold lever Watch, No. 20236, gold dial, chased on the back, with plain medallion in centre. Information to be given to Sergeant Woollaston, Tamworth, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 31. Stolen from the person of a gentleman on the 29th inst. at the Railway Station, Worcester: a gold English lever Watch, black hands, white face, No. 13019, maker Webster, Cornhill, London, a small piece of gold Chain attached. In- formation to be given to the Head Constable, Worcester City Police.— Bow- street, October 31. Stolen from the person of David Burgess, at Middle- wich, on the 25th instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 92, engine- turned cases, gold hands, sunk seconds, cream- coloured dial ; and imitation gold albert Chain. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Office, Middlewich, Cheshire. - Bow- street, October 28. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 2nd instant, a pawnbroker's shop in the borough of Middlesborough, was broken into, and about £ 4 in Copper Money, a pair of black and grey tweed Trousers, with a broad black stripe down the sides, and a Coat and Yest were stolen therein. The offender or offenders left behind them an old black vest, trimmed with small black horn buttons, with the top button off. Information to be I Silver, ancl 9d. in Copper. the following silver, six tea Spoons, marked ' S.,' six ditto, not marked ; two silver salt Spoons, lined gilt ; a silver chased napkin Ring, marked ' J. J. S.' An old soft billycock hat without band was found upon the premises, with two cuts in the crown. £ 5 reward will be paid by the Rev. J. J Single- ton, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Holland, Wednesbury, to Sergeant Smith, Muckley Corner, Lichfield, or at any of the County Police Stations. — Bow- street, November 4. At 1 a. m. on the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Garrod, situate on the Tuddenham- road, in the borough of Tpswich, was broken and entered and stolen therein, a silver Geneva Watch, silver dial, makers Schulm and Boby, Ipswich, on dial, No. 25254, also a silver Guard, small pattern ; and about 10s. or 12s. in Silver and1 Copper Money. By two men : one is about 6 feet high, and had on a light skull cap, which formed a mask, a long white shirt outside his clothes, and dark trousers with stripes down the sides ; the other is about 5 feet 7 inches high, and had on a black skull cap, forming a mask, and an old- fashioned cloak ( dark red stripes). They took away with them a newly killep chicken, plucked. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office,. Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- st., November 4. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the 30th ult., between 5 and 9 p. m., from a cottage in the parish of Worfield, the property of Benjamin Lane : a carpet Bag, dark green, with a yellow spot ; ,£ 76 in Gold ; a £ 5 Note ; a Saving's Bank Book, with £ 122 entered therein, ( Bridgnorth Savings Bank); and a pair of black plush Breeches. £ 20 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and the recovery of the money, or a portion of the reward, in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street November 2. Stolen from Kingillie House, near Inverness, by means of housebreaking, between the night of the 25th instant and the morning of the 26th, the following property: 33 large Forks, 26 small ditto, 26 large Spoons, 23 small ditto, 5 Egg ditto, 5 salt ditto, 4 Gravy ditto, 13 Tea ditto ( six with 1 M. B.' engraved on them), 5 Toddy Ladles, 1 Fish Slice, 1 Butter Knife, 1 Asparagus Tongs, and 1 Sugar ditto ( all silver and with crest— a greyhound catching a hare ;' 2 silver Soup Dividers, one with crest— a greyhound catching a hare, the other— a phoanix, engraved thereon ; 4 boat- shaped electro- plated Salt Cellars, crest— a greyhound catching a hare ; also | 2 Sovereigns, a £ 1 Note of the Commercial Bank, 19s. in 1 "' "" Supposed by two men of the HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Stanstead Hall, Halstead, during the night of the 2nd instant, the property of Mr. E. H. Bentall: two cart Horses— one a chesnut gelding, 16 hands high, 3 years old, white stripe down the face, one white hind fetlock, in good condition; the other a chesnut mare, about 16 hands high, 3 years old, star on forehead, in good condition. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Ackers, Braintree Police Station, or to Inspector Hammond, Halstead, Essex.— Bow- street, November 4. Further information respecting the Mare advertised in the Police Gazette of the 28th ultimo, as stolen from Market Drayton, between the 24th and 27th ultimo, it is supposed to have been stolen during the night of the 25th instant, and is of the following description : a well bred bay Mare, 8 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, fired on both hocks, white star on forehead, small white streak between nostrils, one white fore heel, slightly rag tailed, and pigeon toed, flat feet, blistered all round two months ago, handsome, showy, high mettled, and in good condition, had no shoes on fore feet when stolen. £ 10 reward ill be paid by the owner to any person giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the Mare. Information to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Howells, Market Dray- ton, Salop.— Bow- street, November 2 Stolen from Montlfryston, between 5 p. m. 20th and 7 a. m. on the 21st instant, a dark iron grey carting Mare, 5 years old, 15 hands bigh, head nearly black, long tail, white hind fetlock, ' N. H.' stamped on shoes, and in good condition. £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. George Dixon, the owner, on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Wardle, West Riding Constabulary, Selby.— Bow- street, October 31. Stolen from a field in the parish of Tettenhall, on the 19th instant : a red fat Bullock, short horned, marked on the near hip, the hair having been cut with scissors, the property of Mr. John Niebolls, butcher, Tettenhall. Information to be given at the Police Station, Tettenhall, near Wolver- hampton.— Bow- street, October 31. Stolen from Rochford, Essex, the property of Mr. John Coe, a bay Mare, thorough bred, 15 hands high, large white star on forehead, and in rather low condition ; also a Dog Cart, recently painted blue, picked out with light blue, with blue cushion, patent axle- tree, builder Maskell, Chelmsford; three Riding Saddles, one lady's : and several Bridles, Bits, and Stirrups. Traced about twenty miles in the direction of London. Information to be given to Inspector Hawtree, Police Station, Rochford.— Bow- street, October 31. Stolen from a field in the parish of Brassington, on the night of the 16th instant, five Heifers : two nearly all red ( except a few white spots on body), one red and white, one white, and one roan. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Sharpe, Police Office, Wirksworth, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, October 31. Stolen during the night of the 14th instant, from a field near Montgomery, the property of Mr. W. Davies, one Bullock and one Heifer, 16 months old, red, with white faces and shoulders. Information to be given to Police Officer Thomas, Montgomery.— Bow- street, October 28. Stolen on the 17th instant from May Hill, in the parish of Aston Ingham: a strawberry- coloured cart Mare, black legs, tail, and mane, about 9 years old, 14 hands high, and has lost one eye. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, Octo- ber 28. Stolen, supposed by bargemen, during the night of the 25th instant, from a marsh near the River Thames, parish of Stone, Kent : a Kent ewe Sheep, marked ' S' in pitch on the off hip. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Police Station, Dartford, Kent.— Bow- street, October 28. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 31st ultimo, from 34, Castle- street East, Oxford street, stealing an open faced gold English lever Watch, gold dial, chased back, maker Burrough, Ipswich : a watchmaker, 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair and eyes, small black whiskers ancl moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, high hat, and respectable appearance. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, November 4. Absconded from Wisbech, on the lst instant, charged with larceny : SAMUEL THOMPSON, a labourer, 2,8 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, no beard or whiskers ; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, with a short white slop under it, beaverteen trousers, and cloth cap ; he belongs to the Cambridgeshire Militia, and is well known at Grimsby and at the Smithfield Market, Manchester, at both / 2 POLICE G AZJiT'!"', November 4. of which places he has worked. Information to he given to Head Constable Sharpe, Wisbeach, Isle of Ely, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 4. Description of EDWARD WILLIAMS, a Royal Marine, who has absconded from Portsmouth charged with stealing £ 5 in Money, three carbuncle Studs set in gold, and a pair of Boots : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6^- inches high, stout built, nose turns up, moustache, but no whiskers-( sha> ved off); dressed in blue tunic vest and trousers, blue cap with peak, and blue pea jacket, and carried a small black portmanteau; he is a native of Devonshire. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Barber, Police Station, Portsmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, No- vember 4. Description of EDWARD NIXON STEPHENSON, of the borough of Newcastle- upon- Tyne, charged with embezzle- ment, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued : he is a commercial traveller^ 26 years of age, 6 feet high, brown hair and eyes, fair complexion, long nose, rather bent on one side, thin face, wears his hair parted in the centre,, and walks with rather . a lounging gait, is a native of Northum- berland ; dressed when he absconded on the 29th ultimo, in a brown top coat, with blue surtout underneath, narrow black and white striped trousers, and black low crowned hat; it is supposed " he will make for some seaport, with a view to leave the country. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Police Office, Newcastle- upon- Tyne.— Bow- street, November 4. Further information / respecting CHARLES BONES, late, rate - collector at Middlesborough, charged with embezzlement, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 22nd December last: he was seen in Wisbech Market about ten days ago, selling pills, & c., and had a conveyance with him, he has been in India, and at times pretends to be able to teach the Hin- dostanee language. Information to be given to Chief Constable i Saggerson, who holds a warrant and will pay all costs on his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 4. Description of ANN TEAR or MARTIN, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued at Tunbridge Wells, charged with stealing a Watch ( since recovered) on thet' 21st ultimo : about 33 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light brown frizzled hair, full face, very stout, and supposed to " be near her confinement ; dressed ' in black bonnet with blue flower on top, old black shawl and dress, and ligM coloured boots. Has friends keeping a shop at Deptford. Kent. Information to be given to Chief Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, Nov. 2. Absconded, Charged with stealing on the 20th ultimo, from a beer- house at Tunbridge Wells, a pair of nearly new cord Trousers and a black cloth Vest,' a man, 30 years of age, 5 feSt 4i inches high, dark hair, blue eyes, and sallow com- plexion; a labourer; supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes, and may be found in some Union. Has been several tithes convicted of felony. Information to be given to Chief Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— — Bow- street, November 2. A man called GINGER DICK, alias WHITBY DICK, alias DICKENSON, is charged on a warrant with breaking and entering the shop of Richard Harrison, jeweller, of Hull: he is about 34 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, round face, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, beard long and light coloured; generally dressed in woollen cord trousers, blue guernsey under waistcoat, hairy cap, and wears a gold ring, crest— a horse or horse's head ; is a hawker of common jewellery, jet, & c., and travels the country with a black box.; Supposed to be a native of Whitby, and to have a relative there, a shoemaker and bird fancier. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Chief Constable's Office, Hull.-— Bow- street, November 2. Description of a tramping stonemason, charged with stealing on the 21st ultimo, a blue Rug, the property of Jas. Brighton, innkeeper, Totley : SAMUEL WALTER JACK- SON SMITH, 79 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, hair turning grey, whiskers under the chin, features very much sunken, subject to fits, aud generally spends the winter in some workhouse; dressed in a white slop, moleskin trousers, round felt hat, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Gorman, Eckington, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bqw- street, November 2. Stolen from a cart at Cotton- end, Beds., on the 27th inst., a dark coloured Rug outside, with the figure of a lion ( the whole size of the rug) inside ; by a navvy, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, rather long face, black whiskers, and dressed in white slop, and either old cord or doeskin trousers. He was seen to leave the premises with a bag ( supposed to contain the rug) over his shoulders. Information to be given, to Deputy Chief Constable Graham, County Police Office, Bedford..— Bow- street, Oatober Zl. Description of two brothers who are charged with stealing from a shop at Bradninch, a quantity of Bacon, the property of Richard Rose : HENRY HAYMAN, 26 or 27 years of age 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, cast in one eye ; dressed in fustian trousers, cord waistcoat, round fustian jacket, and jimcrow hat. JOHN HAYMAN, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, round features, dark hair, no whiskers ; dressed in fustian trousers, dark coat and waist- eoat, and jimcrow bat; haj served ih the Royal Marines, and has a blue mark on the left arm. These men have been recently convicted of felony, and only a few days released from the County Gaol. Information to be given to. Superintendent Collins, Devon Constabulary, Col- fumpton, who holds the warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, October 31. of the 28th ultimo, HARRY SEYMOUR, 19 years of age, 5 feet .8 inches high, light hair cut close, whiskers shaved off, grey eyes, fair complexion, brown mark on left fore arm, pockmarked between the eyes, scar on left side of forehead, pimples on face, and a wart inside right hand ; walks erectlv, with a military gait, he having served in the Bedfordshire . . , Militia ; dressed in dark brown fustian trousers, marked Information to be given to Chief Superintendent ' B. HC.' on leg ® , dark coarse grey cloth vest, and braces, with B. H. C.',' blue woollen socks with red stripes round the leg, prison made grey cloth glengarry cap, check shirt, ' B. H. C.' between the shoulders, low shoes, and an old light brown tweed jacket, the sleeves recently repaired with new material from elbows ; he is a bricklayer's labourer, and was born at Clifton, near Shefford, in Bedfordshire, where he has friends residing,- and to which place he was traced on the night of his escape. He is supposed to be working his way to London, where he will probably seek work at s6me buildings, or enlist. £ 2 reward - will be. paid to any person who shall deliver him up to the Governor of the Gaol. Information to be given to Mr. R. E. Roberts, Governor, County Gaol, Bedford ; or to Chief Constable Boultbee, County Constabulary, Bedford. Bow- street, November 4. BURROWS, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair- cut short, clean shaved, and slight scars on the " back of his hands ; dressed in fustian trousers and vest, with white buttons, worn over a slop ; was discharged with disgrace from the Marines; and GEORGE TUCKET, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown bushy hair, aud no whiskers ; dressed in dark monkey jacket and fustian trousers. Blanchard, Barnstaple, Devonshire.— Bow- street, November 2. Description of a man - chasrged with felony ( name and address refused) : 47 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, swarthy full face, no whiskers, brown hair, « \ illen countenance, stout make; dressed in cord trousers and vest, grey coat, velvet collar, lace- u. p shoes, and has the appearance of . a respectable- looking bricklayer j a number of tools used in that trade were found in his possession when apprehended last night at Heybridge, near Maldon, Essex. Information to be given to Inspector Rutledge, Police Station, Latchingdon, near Maldon, Essesx.— TBow- street, October, 28. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described).
