POLICE FU& IU& TFR CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged loith Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering tliem. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *** Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made, It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserter. and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office: Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot bo published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. CHARLES CHERMONT is charged with feloniously wounding with intent • t J do grievous bodily harm : he is 17 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, slim build, swarthy complexion, dark hair and eyes, sometimes wears a moustache; dressed when last seen in a dirty white slop, cord trousers, aud round black hat. Information to be given to the Inspector oil duty, Moor- lane Station, City, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 23. FORGERY. Absconded on the 18tli instant, from Boughton Mon- chelsea, Kent, charged with obtaining Money by a series of forgeries, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted : THOS. GANDY, late schoolmaster and assistant overseer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight built, sallow complexion, dark hair and few whiskers on chin, which may be shaved off, has a habit of nervously blinking his eyes when spoken to, and inclines forward when walking ; sometimes dressed in dark clothes, and sometimes in a light tweed suit, and light low- crown hat. Will probably try to emigrate. Information to be given to Superintendent Oven- den, Kent County Constabulary, Maidstone.— Bow- street, September 28. Absconded from Manchester, charged with forgery and embezzlement of upwards of £ 2,000 : THOS. CRABTREE, grey cloth salesman, formerly residing at Poplar- grove, Sale Moor, about 29 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, thick set, fair hair, slight moustache of a light colour, and leans a little forward when walking ; h< 5 is a married man, with two children, and a native of Rosendale, Lancashire ; dressed respectably in dark tweed suit, white shirt, and sailor's knot tie. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person or persons who will give such information as will lead to his apprehension, and recovery of the money, or in proportion to the amount recovered, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester,— Bow- street, Septem- ber 21. During the night of the 20tli instant, the office at Mr. Robert Parkes, flour mill, at the township of Amotherby, in the North Riding, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a grey mixture cloth dress Coat, nearly new, with two outside pockets in laps, and one inside left breast, and three horn buttons down front, an old black cloth Vest, buttons to throat, an old grey cloth Vest, with horn buttons, and a white silk pocket Handkerchief, with a black flower round the border. Information to be given to Superintendent Metcalfe, North Riding Constabulojy, Malton. Bow- street, September 23. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE, PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, during Richmond Races, on the 21st instant, a silver lever Watch, No. 16558. Information to be given to Head Constable Peacock, Rich- mond, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 26. Description of JOHN DAGLISH, charged with robbery from the person with violence, on the 6th of May last: he is 24 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, slight cut mark on upper lip, and ink ring on middle finger of left hand ; he is a travelling thief, and may be found in Sheffield, Leeds, or Manchester, having been recently in custody in Hull; on his release he . stated he would go in search of a woman, named Burns, 22 years of age, a native of Bradford, Yorkshire, with whom he has cohabited. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull.— Bo- o- street, September 21. During the afternoon of the 19th instant, a dwelling- house in the borough of Glossop was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a blue pilot cloth Over- coat, much worn; a black cloth shooting Coat, nearlj' new ; three pairs of black cloth Trousers, one nearly new, one much worn, one with full bottoms ; a pair of tweed cloth Trousers, blue and black stripes ; a black cloth Vest ; two white cotton Shirts, one with linen front and wristbands ; a blue and white check bundle Handkerchief ; a pocket Handkerchief, - with scenes— Isle of Man, and a Manx cat in the centre ; a small silver Brooch, snake pattern, a small coral stone in the centre ; a ditto, true lover's knot, two small stones in the centre; and a black cloth Cap. It is supposed that the offender maybe dressed in some of the stolen clothes, as a white twilled cotton jacket and a pair of soldier's trousers, much worn and dirty, were left in the house. Information to be given to Head Constable Beard, Glossop, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 21. Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, September 26. Further information respecting the brown horse Pony stolen from a field at Bemerton, Salisbury, as advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 12th instant : £ 5 reward will be paid for information that may lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and the recovery of the animal. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Gibson, County Police, Fisherton, Salisbury.— Bow- street, September 26. Stolen during the night of the 24tli instant, at Aston, a bay Mare, 15 hands high, star oil forehead, fired on off fore leg, hind feet white, blind in near eye, aged, in good con' dition; also a set of plated Harness ; also a dog Trap, dark body, dark wheels, red stripes up the spokes, maker Illiffe, plated Lamps, and a Driving Whip, ' Griffin, farmer,' on one of the ferrules ; the property of Mr. Hughes, Aston. £ 5 will be paid oil conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bloxham, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, September 26. Stolen from a field at Hadlow, Kent, during the night of the 20th instant, a black cob Horse, 14 hands high, star on forehead, one foot white, and in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tun- bridge, Kent.— Bow- street, September 23. • Stolen from a field in Little Wratting, since the 13th instant, twelve black face Hampshire Down Lambs, the property of Mr. H. Pearl, of Blunts- hall, Little Wratting. Information to be given to Superintendent Southgate, Police Station, Clare, West Suffolk.— Bow- street, September 23. Found in the possession of a man at Slough, Bucks, on the 17th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a black Welsh Cob, 3 years old, between 14 and 15 hands high, in good condition, and has a few white spots on the body : he gave the name of GEORGE CHAMBERLAIN, 16 years of age, looks 20, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light hair, and small brown eyes; dressed in an old black coat aud vest, with livery buttons, old black billycock hat, striped mixtuie trousers, and an old pair of strong lace- up boots ; states he is a native of Tottenham, Middlesex, and further states that he bought the pony at Islington cattle market about' 4 months ago, off a Welsh dealer. Information to be' given to Super- intendent Dunham, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, September 21. Stolen out of a stable yard at Llanfechain, during the night of the 13th instant, the property of Jane Jones, of Llanfechain, Montgomeryshire : a brown coloured she Ass, and a small spring Cart and Harness to match, about 5 years old, small size, walks very close with hind legs ; the wheels of the .. cart painted red, getting dull, bound with one inch binding by half inch ; the body is not painted, ' D. D.' in red paint on bottom, supposed underneath ; the harness is worn hard, the collar recently padded, cord bridle, and 110 reins. JOHN PIERCE JONES, is charged with stealing the same, is a native of Llanfyll, Montgomeryshire, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches liigli, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, little or no whiskers, deeply pockpitted, bruise on one leg ( supposed left), and has served 5 years as a soldier ; dressed in white slop, soldier's trousers, black jimcrow hat, and bad boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Strefford, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Williams, Llan- santffraid, via Oswestry, - who holds a warrant for liis appre- hension.— Bow- street, September 21. BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. The dwelling house of Miss M. A. Reeves, Milverton, was burglariously broken into, between the 14th and 23rd instant, and the following property stolen therein : A blue silk Dress, costume. A light green silk Dress, costume. A mauve terry silk Dress. HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the night of the 24th instant from a field at Yardley : a " brown cart Mare, about 15-|- hands high, 8 years old, with black list down her back, and in good condition. Whoever shall give such information as shall lead to the con- viction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 5 reward by applying to H. Wathew, The Grove, Hall- green, near Bir- mingham. Information to be given to Inspector Welch, Solihull, Birmingham.— Bow- street, September 28. Stolen between 7 a. m. on the 23rd and 9 a. m. on the 25th instant, from a field at. Arson Lodge Farm, Shoreham, Kent : two Kent Sheep, slaughtered, skin and head left in the field. Information to be given to Superintendent Colman, Kent County Constabulary, Police Court, Sevenoaks.— Bow- street, September 28. Stolen from a field on Chelwood Farm, Fletching, Sussex, during the night of the 15th instant : two cross bred short horn Steers ; two cross bred Hereford Steers ; a red Sussex Steer ; one half bred Alderney Heifer, in calf, white feet, and white star in face. £ 1 reward. Information to be given to LARCENY AMD EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 26th instant, stealing from a boot- maker's in Battersea- rise, a pair of men's sidespring Boots and 16s. in Silver : a journeyman bootmaker, 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, hair and whiskers turning grey ; dressed in black alpaca coat, black cord trousers with patches on knees, blucher boots, and billycock hat, all old and dirty ; tattooed on two fingers of each hand, ' W. L.' on back, on one hand 1 M. L.,' on the other crown and anchor, on one arm two men lifting a figure of Christ on to a cross ; has a son employed in the New Cattle Market, where he is likely to be found.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, September 28. Absconded on the 21st instant, from St. Paul's- road, Bow- common, stealing £ 10, a carman, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, dark liair, slight moustache, and dressed in black frock coat, light vest, dark trousers, and black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, September 28. Absconded on the 23rd instant, from the Military Clothing Stores, Pimlico, embezzling several sums of Money : a clerk, 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high," fair complexion, light sandy liair, full dark sandy beard and moustache, short neck, stout build, several marks in blue ink on hands, star on back of right hand, upper lip projecting, caused by a scar, and tattooed oil arms ; supposed dressed in black cloth coat and trousers, and high black hat ; a native of Cirencester, Gloucestershire, formerly a sergeant major in 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards; his wife resides at 15, Aylesford- street, Pimlico, and her friends at Taunton, Somerset.— Metropolitan Police, 1! Division, September 28. Absconded on the 23rd instant, fiom 26, Backchurch- lane, Whitechapel, stealing a gold Ring, set with pearls, and a pair of gold Ear- rings, with pendants : a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and sallow complexion; dressed in brown coat, dark trousers, and round felt hat .— Metropolitan Police, II Division, September 28. Absconded on the 26th instant, stealing from the Green Man public- house, Jane- street, St. George's East, a gold lever Watch and gold Guard with Seals attached. By a youth ( servant) 18 years of age, fair complexion, light hair, pale face, and dressed in black cloth coat and vest, cord trousers, round hat, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, K Di- vision, September 28. Absconded from Finedon, on the 6th ult.-, charged with stealing a black cloth Yest, with six brown pearl buttons down the front, and a white calico Shirt, nearly new : JOHN MAZE, alias GRIFFITHS, a labourer, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, whiskers and moustache, high cheek bones, and hollow cheeks ; dressed in dark pilot jacket and waistcoat, light mixture trousers, with dark stripe down the sides, spring side shoes, with toe caps, black billycock hat, and carries a small carpet bag, without a lock. Information to be given to Superintendent Poole, Police Office, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 28. Description of W. C. BOWDEN, charged with embezzle- ment at Birmingham ; he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, broad built, brown curly hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, shaved under the chin, sallow complexion, and crooked nose. Information to be given at the Police Office, Detective Department, Birmingham. - Bow- street, Sept. 28. Description of HENRY KENSETT, charged with em- bezzlement at Brighton : he is 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, sandy whiskers, worn to a point on chin, moustache, rather stout, bow legged, walks quickly; dressed in dark plaid trousers and vest, dark coat, and black alpine hat; he may be hawking jewellery. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 26. Absconded from Shambrook, on or about the 4th ultimo, charged with embezzling several sums of Money, the property of his employer, Mr. W. Sheldou, of Irchester, coal merchant : WILLIAM WARD, a labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather stout build, brown hair, hazel eyes, round face, florid complexion, and rather fresh looking; supposed dressed in dark clothes. £ 3 3s. reward will be paid by the Wellingborough Association for the Prosecution of Felons to any person apprehending the said William Ward. Information to be given to Superintendent Carruthers, Sharn- brook, Bedfordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, September 26. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Maidstone on the 12th instant : three Sovereigns, four Florins, one Shilling oilepair of cotton Sheets, one pair of black cloth Trousers, one black cloth Waistcoat, one red figured Waistcoat, two coarse Towels, two Tablecloths, and one Flat Iron. By two persons of the following description : a woman about 20 years of age, very short, rather . dark complexion, hazel eyes, light brown hair, rather stout figure, and married ; dressed in black jacket and light skirt. A man about 33 years of age, a deserter from the 7th Dragoon Guards, Maidstone, 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, slight figure, is a native of Ashby- de- la- Zouch, Leicester, married, and a miner. Infor- mation t° he- given to the Head Constable, Police Office, Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, September 26. Stolen on the 12tli instant, from the dwelling- house of Wm. Watkins, at Dedbury, Worcester : nine Sovereigns, and two Half Sovereigns. By a lodger named FREDERICK FURNACE, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, turning grey, bald on top of head, stout, fresh complexion, a little knock kneed, by trade an excavator or labourer in a brickyard, has lived at Crick, Northampton- shire. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Halesowen, or to Sergeant Simmonds, Police Station, Oldbury, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, September 26. Absconded from Aberystwith, Cardiganshire, on the morning of the 23rd instant, two men, stealing £ 46, the pro- perty of their employer, Mr. Thomas Warren Burden : THOMAS TOWNSEND, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather stout and round shouldered, wears a moustache, has no whiskers, and is rather baldheaded; dressed in a light pepper- and- salt suit and white duck hat; he is a watchmaker by trade, and has got his tools with him ; his wife is a native of Maesteg, South Wales. HENRY BRYANT, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7£ inches high, fresh complexion, clean face, rather lmsky voice; dressed in darii blue small ribbed coat and vest, dark cord trousers, brown overcoat, and black jimcrow hat; his father and mother reside at Pontnewenydd, near Pontypool. They have been traced to Carmarthen. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Constabu- lary Office, Aberystwith, or to Sergeant Evans, who holds the warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, September 26. Absconded on the 23rd instant, stealing from No. 26, Old Town, Croydon, £ 19 6s., the property of the landlord : a lodger, 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, whiskers shaved off; dressed in white smock, white jean trousers, and round black hat; supposed will emigrate to America.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, September 26. Description of ALEXANDER THOM, lately a traveller to a cheese merchant in Glasgow, who is charged with embezzle- ment : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout made, square shoulders, dark hair, long black whiskers, and fashionably dressed. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCall, Detective Department, Glasgow.— Bow- street, September 26. Stolen from the commercial room of the Peacock Hotel, Market- square, Northampton, on the 21st instant : three Overcoats, one a dark grey, lavender silk velvet collar, and lavender silk buttons, two outside pockets, and one inside breast pocket ; another a dark brown, brown velvet collar, two pockets behind, one outside breast pocket, and one small ticket pocket on right side ; and the other a light grey, light velvet collar, two outside pockets, and one inside breast pocket ; in the pockets were a morocco bound pocket Ledger, brass clasp, and gilt letters on one side ' Nottingham and Leicester,' and one long Memorandum Book, containing some letters addressed ' Slee & Coy. ;' also a black silk Hat, - with ' P.' inside. By a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black whiskers, and rather stout build ; dressed in brown coat, blue trousers, and billy hat. Information to be given to Sergeant Hilley, Chief Constable's Office, North- ampton.— Bow- street, September 26. Absconded on the 20th instant, from No. 2, Constance- street, Silver Town, stealing a small link pattern gold Guard, with Locket attached, and 13s. in Money : a lodger, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, two small patches of white hair on back of head ; dressed in cloth frock coat with silk facings, light trousers and vest, side- spring boots, and black billycock hat; supposed gone to Birmingham,— Metropolitan Police, K Division, September 23. Absconded on the 17th ultimo, embezzling £ 100, the money of his employer, of No. 29, Bedford- street, Strand : an errand boy, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair com- plexion and hair ( curly), blue eyes ; well dressed.— Metropo- litan Police, E Division, September 23. Absconded from Dudley : WILLIAM BUSWORTH, alias BUSSEY, a drover and assistant slaughterman, 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, dull expression of countenance, very black hair, high cheek bones, large broad flat nose, shaves all round chin, holds his head down, and has a slovenly gait ; likely to be now dressed in black, and is supposed to be with a relative who is a coachman to a gentleman, whose stables are in the vicinity of Regent's Park. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Police Station, Dudley, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, September 23. ' Stolen from a dwelling- house in Tynemouth, between 1 and 2 p. m. on the 20th instant : a patent silver lever Watch, No. 21416', maker Sample, of Bedlington. By a woman named ELIZABETH MURPHY, 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high ; dressed in a shabby brown dress, a tartan shawl, of small size, and neither hat, shoes, or stockings on when last seen; she is a native of Hamilton, Scotland, and supposed to be making her way home. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hewett, Tynemouth, Northumberland.— Bow- street, September 23. Absconded from Newcastle, near Chin, Salop, on the 19th instant, charged with stealing 19 pocket knife Blades, the property of Walter Evans, blacksmith : a tramping black- smith, from 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout made, dark sandy hair and whiskers, all round his face ; dressed in short brown cloth jacket and vest, corduroy trousers, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Hayward, Bishop's Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, September 23. A Sheriff's warrant has been issued against JAMES GLEN ALLEN, of Glasgow, charged with the theft or embezzlement of £ 1000 or thereabouts, the property of an Insurance Company, in the city of Glasgow : he is a clerk and cashier, 27 years of age, 6 feet high, rather pale complexion, dark brewn hair, brown whiskers, beard, and moustache ; dressed in a dark grey suit of clothes, and round felt hat; uses spectacles, and is rather short sighted. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow.— Bow- street, September 21. Description of RICHD. NIXON, charged with stealing- six Watches ( five have been recovered), the property of his employer, at Ashton- under- Lyne. He is a journeyman watcli maker, late of No. 5, Holland's- court, off Dale- street, Chapel- street, Salford. For description, see Police Gazette, the 17th instant, and was last seen on his way per train to London, where he is supposed to have gone.
