W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 17th insbuit from the person at Halifax : au English lever silver Watch, engine- turned case, makers Russell and Co., Liverpool, No. 21) 231), had attached a silver Guard, curb pattern. Also stolen on the 2<> th instant from tho person : a large old- fashioned heavy gold lever Watch, engiue- turned wise, worn nearly smooth, white dial, black figures at the half- hour point, slight crack on dial near ' G.' Information to be given to Superintendent Pearson, Town Hall, Halifax.— Bow street, July 22. Stolen from the person of Henry Mitchell on the night of the 9th instant, on the highway between " Wellington and Ketley : a small Parcel, containing a pair of Trousers and a Vest, cloth, pepper and salt colour ; and a calico Shirt, all new. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Serjeant Austin, St. George's, Salop.— Bow- street, July 13. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Soutliweald, on the 18th instant : a gold Bracelet ; a gold Albert Chain, with small links ; a gold Pin ; four silver Tea Spoons ; two silver Salt Spoons, fiddle pattern ; a silver Fish Knife and Fork ; a silver Butter Knife, with twisted handle ; a silver Fork ; a grey cloth Overcoat, very much worn; and a lady's Com- panion, with silver Thimble, Scissors, and Crochet Hook. Information to be given at the Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, July 22. During the night of the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. M. Thompson, of Lucker, Northumberland, was broken and entered, and stolen ^ therein ; supposed by tramps : au Umbrella ; a walking Cane, with a head of a peculiar kind of wood, has a hole in it but filled up with composition, the gold rim is off the cane, but the eyelets, which ; ire of gold, are left in : a felt Hat; a Scotch Cap ; a leather Bag ; a silver Pencil- case; and a small silver Medal. Information to be given to Superintendent Marshall, Lowick, Northumberland. — Bow- street, July 22. Stolen by means of housebreaking, supposed by tramps, during the night of the 20th instant, from Frongill, near Glynceiriog, the property of Evan Roberts : a pair of woman's leather lace- up Boots, quite new; a pair of blucher Boots, nailed, nearly new, man's size ; two Overcoats, one nearly new, of strong black ribbed cloth; a velvet Jacket, much worn ; a mixture cloth Jacket, nearly new, pockets outside ; Si yards of cotton Cord, with trimmings for trousers ; a Loaf ; and 4 lbs. of Butter. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, or to Inspector Humphreys, Llangollen, Denbighshire.— Boxo- street, July 22. during the night of the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Morgan, of Totmonslow, near Cheadle, was broken'into, and stolen thereui: a silver Soup Ladle, marked ' J. M. two larce silver Spoons ; a small Dessert Spoon ; a pair of Sugar Tongs, marked ' J. M. C.;' six silver Tea Spoons ; a silver Sugar Scoop ; three huge damask Table- cloths and a small ditto, marked ' J. M. C. ;' eight men's cotton Shirts, linen fronts; a spun silk coloured cricketing Shirt ; three woollen Shirts; a black Inverness Cape ; a Greatcoat, with velvet collar; a brown Inverness Cape, with lavender- coloured lining; a black woollen Jacket ; two pairs of half Boots, button up the side ; and a pair of lace- up Boots, nearly new, Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Marshall, Cheadle, Stafford- shire. - bow- street, July, 22. Description of two men, charged on a warrant with FRIDAY, JULY 22, 1870. burglary, at the house of Frederick William Kenrick, 21, Queen- street, Horncastle, on the 13th instant, and stealing a quantity of gentleman's wearing Apparel, part of which has been recovered, found pledged, at Boston : JOHN, alias CUTTY START, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or ( i inches high, black hair and whiskers, roman nose, is supposed to have an old scar in it, from fighting ; dressed when last seen in old white slop, open in front, part of sleeves torn off, worn in the trousers, grey vest over slop, old cord trousers, fly front, have been mended a good deal, light lace- up boots, and old grey cap ; and SAMUEL GENTLE, 19 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or !) inches high, light hair, small light downy whiskers, has a peculiar look about his eyes, and very slouching gait ; dressed in old light cap, old dark cloth coat, light vest, old drabbet trousers, torn at knees, very old boots. These men are labourers, but of very idle dissolute habits, they were last seen at Sleaford, at 9 a. m. on the 16th instant. On the night of the 17th instant the house of Mrs. Harriet Halls, in the parish of Beyton, Suffolk, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 1 large silver Gravy Spoon. 6 silver Table Spoons, two of which are marked ' C. C.,' and two marked ' H." 16 silver Spoons— 12 tea and 4 salt— fiddle pattern, and marked ' H.' 1 silver Ham Fork with ivory handle. 1 do. Butter Knife, twisted handle. 1 do. Sugar Lifter, marked ' H.' 4 do. Dessert Spoons, marked 1H.' 1 do. Punch Ladle with blaob handle. 4 do. Tea Spoons, marked ' H. L.' 2 do. Skewers, large size. 1 pinchbeck Watch and Guard, same colour. 1 gold Brooch, white stone in middle. 1 do. set with red stones. 1 gold Ring set with purple stones. 1 do. Pin set with green stones. 1 do. Pin set with lilac stones. 1 do. Pin with woman's head on it. 1 do. square Brooch set with lilac stones and glass centre. 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' H.' on bow. 2 gold Watch Seals. 2 do. Keys and Ring. 1 silver Pencil Case with days of the month on it. Half- a- crown, 2 Shillings, a 3d. Piece, and six or seven Farthings. By two men, middling size, who entered Mrs. Hall's bedroom; one was dressed in black coat, drab trousers, dark vest, plaid scarf, and had a bag over his head with holes opposite his eyes, and had a moustache ; the other was dressed in a black coat, and had a black handkerchief over his face, and wore a blue and white neckerchief; two other men are supposed to have been outside. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Durrant, Ixworth, or to, Inspector vail, Woolpit, Suffolk. - Bow- street, July 20. On the night of the 13th instant, the house of George Saunders, in the parish of Amberley, was broken into and stolen therein : three white Shirts, one marked ' F. H. a flannel Shirt ; a black cloth Coat with pockets outside ; a pair of men's Boots ( new), with brass eyelet holes; a Towel; and a Handkerchief. Information to be given to Superintendent Hollowav, Leominster, near Arundel, Sussex.— Bow- street, July 18." During the night of the 14th instant, the house of Mr. Rees, Moelfre, in the parish of Llansilin, was broken into, and stolen therein : five pairs of grey woollen Stockings, man's size ; a pair of white ditto, women's size ; a pair of fight lace Shoes, with yellow eyelet- holes, man's size and nearly new; a large patent lever Watch, with a crack on the face, and ' D. Rees,' written inside the case, which is too large for the watch. Two youthful tramps, dressed in light clothes and black caps, wen- seen in the neighbourhood. Information to be^ given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, or to Police Constable Rowlands, Llansilin, via Oswestry.— Bow- street, July 18. Stolen between 3 and 4- 30 a. m. on the 14th inst. by means of housebreaking, at Creeting All Saints, the property of Mrs. Charlotte Barker: a small dark mahogany Box, oval top, about 9i inches long, 5i inches wide, 6 inches deep, on the lid a brass drop handle, brass round the keyhole, stands on foui feet, the lid lined with green baize ; a small bone handle two- bladed Knife ; and other articles. By a man, about 5 feet 4 inches high, 21 years of age, light brown hair, cross in both eyes pale face, and a few hairs on chin ; dressed in dark ciothes. Information to be given to Police Constable Bourne, Constabulary Station, Stoneham, Aspall, East Suffolk. - Bow- street, July 18. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. A man named JOHN READ, hired a Horse of Henry Rolph, High Wycombe, to draw a cart to Uxbridge, on the 15th instant, and not having returned it, he is charged with stealing the same : it is a light bay Cob, about 14 hands high, two splints below the knee inside,* has lately been down, both knees chipped. Read is about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fan- complexion, and one of his eyelids drop ; dressed in a light jacket, light low- crowned hat, and rather tight- fitting trousers. He was formerby a labourer, working in a garden at Leighton Buzzard, Beds, about 10 years ago, and has lately been bring at Felgate Mews, Studley- street, Hammersmith. He goes from town to town with a horse and large market cart, painted green, and the name of ' John Read, gardener, Leighton Buzzard,' written on it. On tho 24th ultimo, he sold a light bay Mare, 6 years old, in good condition, and very handsome.' On the 15th instant he sold a brown Horse, about 15 hands 2 inches high, in working condition, has a small swelling on the ofl' hind leg, in the out- side of the fetlock joint, has a plain head, and is aged ; these horses are supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Davis, High Wycombe, Bucks,, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Jxdy 22. Supposed to have been stolen from Glanusk Park, near Crickhowell, during the night of the 18th inst., the property of Sir Joseph Russel Bailey, Bart., M. P., a brown mare Pony, 13 hands 2 inches high, white star on forehead, long mane and crop tail; and a chesnut horse Pony, white star on fore- head, long mane, switch tail, cut on fore leg ; both ponies are in good condition. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Evans, Breconshire Constabulary, CrickhowelL— Bow- street, July 22. FREDERICK GILLINGHAM, alias GRAHAM, is charged on a warrant with stealing a Horse and Van, recovered : he is 29 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and moustache, ( twisted); dressed in dark brown cloth coat, cord trousers, velvet hat, with brim, steel buckle to band, a carpenter ; has been discharged from the army, has friends living at Woolwich and Greenwich. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent. - Bow- street, July 22. Stolen between ihe hours of 9 p. m. on the 15th, and 5 a. m. on the 16th instant, from a field hi the occupation of Mr. French, near Stivichall Common, near Coventry : a light bag Gelding, aged, about 14 hands 1 inch high, has black legs, a little white on near hind hoof and fetlock, spavin on each hock, has been docked, has a bang bushy tail, a collar mark on the crest, a fulness on the oft' knee from falling, but no hair off, and is in good working condition, Whoever will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and convictiou of the offender or offenders, will receive a reward of 5 guineas from the Combe, Binley, and Warwickshire Association for the Prosecution of Felons, and 5 guineas from Mr. French. Information to be given to Inspector Galloway, Kenilworth, or to Police Constable Webb, Earlsdon.— Bow- street, Jxdy 20. On the night of the 15th instant a valuable black- faced ewe Sheep was slaughtered in a field at Streethay Farm, near Lichfield, the property of Mr. William Taylor. The head and entrails were left in the field. £ 3 3s. reward is offered. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Oswell, Burton- on- Trent, to Sergeant Bason, Shenstone, or any Police Station in the county of Stafford.— Bow- street, July 18. Description of five yearling Welsh Ponies, the property of Mr. T. Bolton, Stanton St. John, Oxon, entrusted to a drover at Caynham, Shropshire, on the 2nd instant, to convey to Stanton St. John, and which have not arrived at their destination : a black Horse, walks wide behind, marked with a ' X' cut in the hair on the near hip ; a brown ditto; a ditto, with star on forehead, and white foot a brown Mare; a black ditto, very rough coat, star on forehead, and white hind feet; two notches cut in the hair on near hip of the four l; ist described. The drover is about 27 years of age, middle height, shows his teeth when talking, and has a rolling gait; dressed in double- breasted flannel jacket with large white horn buttons, brown trousers, and jimcrow hat. If stolen, £ S reward will be paid on recovery of the Ponies and conviction of the offender, on appli- cation to Sir. Bolton, Stanton St. John, Oxford, or to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, Jxdy 15. Stolen from a field in Mentley, in the parish of Standon, some time during the night of the 13th instant, a light bay Horse, 15 hands 2 inches high, white mark down the face, small head and ears, switch tail, a little white on the heels just above the fetlocks, saddle marks on the bark, in good condi- tion, 7 years old, and no shoes on. Information to be given to Inspector Bygrave, Ware, or Police Constable Parish, Puckeridge, Herts.— Bow- street, July 15. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 19th instant, embezzling various sums of money of his master, a coal merchant, of Leytonstone : a man, 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, light brown hair and whiskers, full face, stout; supi> osed dressed in pepper- and- salt Cambridge coat, pockets on hips, light trousers and vest, high black hat, and Wellington boots ; walks lame, and has friends living in Wilson- street, Finsbury. — Metropolitan Police, N Division, Jxdy 22. Stolen about 3 p. m. on the 19th inst, from the dwelling- house of Samuel Hulse, of Chorley, Cheshire : a black cloth Coat, with pockets on the hip3 ; a pair of elastic- side Boots ; a black leather Bag, containing a Ready- reckoner ; and a painter's tool Bass. By a lodger, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, a painter ; dressed in a black cloth coat, black low- crowned hat, and white trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, County Constabulary Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, July 22. o July 22. Description of HENRY NEW, who is charged with stealing 1- 1 i. on the 21st ultimo, at Cleobury Mortimer : he is about 40 years of ago, 5 feet 10 inches high, slender make, sallow complesion, thick lipS, long noSe, dark brown hair, and shaves nearly all his whiskers off, leaving a little at top; dressed in dark coat and vest, supposed to be wearing cord trousers, and black round felt hat. he is travelling about canvassing and collecting for The Royal Albert Legal Friendly Society, Chief Office, Wrottesley- street, Smallbrook- street, Birmingham, he also hawks tea ; he is rather shabbily dressed, but always wears a clean white collar. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins. Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Collis, Salop Constabulary, Polico Station, Cleobury Mortimer, why holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Jiw July 20. Stolen from the borough of FAVersham, about the 7th ultimo, a huge green two- handled, trunk, with springs and overflowing body, wooden railings, and spindled top. By a man about 24 years of age, ft feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, thick set, active looking, and slightly pockpitted ; dressed in a fustian coat and low- crowned hat; has the appearance of a travelling fishmonger, and frequents the towns in East Kent. Information to be given to Superinten- dent White. Police Office, Faversham, Kent— Bow street, Jtr'y 20. Stolen on the 12th inst dit, from a dwelling- house at Sowerby Bridge; a guv cloth Overcoat with velvet collar, raised seams, two outside pockets in skirts, and One outside left breast, much worn; also an old pair of black cloth Trousers with fly fronts. By a lodger named GEORGE JUDD. 31 yeans of age, but looks older, 5 foet 6 or 7 inche high, dark complexion. black hair and w:.. .! tera round lb. chin, slender build, and has lost the upper front teeth, and is a mechanic or machine planer ; dressed in stolen coat and trousers, black vest. and overall hard Air'. Absconded on the 14th instant, stealing a ,£ 0 Rank of England Note from 21, Chenies- street, Tottenham- court- road, the money of his master : a boy, 16 years of age. fr'feet high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes ( left one blind), likely to go to Aldershot, and has been a drummer in the army. Case and Horton, brewers, Greenford- green, BULBY, 24 years of . age, 5 feet y inches liigh, full face, light hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in light drab sUit. blue necktie, high white hat, of gentlemanly appearance, and a chemist Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Po'. ii. r, July Ut A man named JAMES ROWLAND was apprehended on the night of the 14th instant, charged with breaking into the dwelling house of Thomas Bently, at Swepstone, on the 11th instant, and the whole of the property stolen therein, was found upon him. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Ward, Constabulary Station, Ashby- de- la- Zouch.— Bow- street, July 18. Stolen on the 15th instant: a brown mixture shooting Jacket, pockets on hips, inside left breast and outside right, loop inside collar with maker's name, ' W. P. Collingsbourne;' a Cheque Book of City Club, Coventry, in one of the pockets. By a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender make, slight whiskers, scarcely perceptible, and a printer by trade; dressed in dark clothes, a billycock hat, spring boots, with buttons up the front. Information to be given to Chief Constable Norris, Coventry.— Bow- street, July 18. Stolen from a bed- room in a house at the parish of Sutton- at- Hone, Kent, on the morning of the IGLh instant: two Shawls, one an old- fashioned tight- scarf Shawl, the other a dark flowered Shawl; a flannel Petticoat; a white Petticoat, nearly new; a black Skirt; a blown woollen Jacket; a new black cloth Jacket, trimmed with black braid and bugles; a coarse Apron, with jacket at the side; a Chemise; a new Tablecloth; and a pair of small fancy Bellows. By a woman, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 3 inchues high, dark complexion, aud grey hair; dressed in black bonnet trimmed with bugles and a brown linsey dress, and may be wearing some of the stolen clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Police Station, Dartford, Kent- Bow- rL, July 18. of age, 5 feet G or 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, round face, dark sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed respectably, man formerly clerk to a music- seller in Cheltenham, and is likely to apply for a similar situation, and was last heard of at Salisbury. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- strect, July 15. stolenr during the afternoon of the 11th instant, from the dwelling- house of Thomas Bentley, labourer, Swepston: one black ribbed cloth Coat, with pockets outside, one in the left breast, and black bone buttons, nearly new ; one old brown cloth Coat; one pair of grey coloured Trousers, one black and red woollen Shirt, one flannel undershirt, and one black billy- cock I^ at, with wire round the brim. By a man about 3 ) years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, proportionate, sandy hair and whiskers, which, are rather curly; dressed in a white slop and . light- coloured trousers aud cap ; had the appeaeance of a rail- way navvy. Information to be given to Superintendent Ward, , Police Station, Ashby- de- la- Zouch, Leicestershire. — bow- street, ' July, .15. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Obtained by false pretences on the 3rd instant, from Messrs. Spencer, Turner, and Co., 70. Lisson- grove, drapers : 13 yards slate Rep. 12 yards black Alpaca. 1 pair drab Stays. 2 pairs of Kid Gloves, one fawn and one brown colour. By a girl, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in black jacket, black bonnet, trimmed with red and green flowers, and her friends reside in Milton- street, City. She stated that she had been sent by Mrs. Wyatt, 5, Bellsize- terrace, Hampatead.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, July 18. Absconded on the 16th instant, from No. 28, Leicester- square, embezzling £ 64 6a. 7d. : a porter. 36 years of age, „ ri feet 11 inches high, dark complexion and hair cut short), grey eyes is a Scotchman has served in the 73rd Foot, and speaks in an effeminate voice; dressed in an old brown mixture shooting coat, grey mixture trousers and vest, and deerstalker hat- Metropolitan police, C Division, July 20. Absconded on the 15th instant, from 211, Hoxton- street, Hoxton, stealing 30s. in Silver : a youth, 16 years of age: a servant.- Metropolitan Police, N Division, July 20. A warrant is issued for the apprehension of THOMAS STEVENS, on a charge of larceny. He is a native of Averham, near Newark, Nottinghamshire, and has been pre- viously convicted of larceny ; is about 25 years of age. 5 feet 5 or 0* inches high : dressed in dark clothes and black billy- cock hat; is in the habit of staying at hotels, stating that his father sent him there for the benefit of his health, and has a very feminine voice. All reasonable expanses will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Rudkin, Borough Police Station, Grantham, Lincolnshire.— bow- street, July AO. Stolen from a dwelling- house. in the borough of Glossop, early on the morning of the 18th instant : a brown velvet shooting Coat; a blue pilot cloth Vest; a pair of light cotton cord Trousers; a black billycock hat; a pair of navvy water- tight Boots ; all nearly new. By a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very much sunburnt, dark moustache, whiskers, and hair, inclined to sandy, trimmed in military style; has been a soldier, will probably be wearing the Stolen clothes, boots, and hat, an he left his own behind. Is an Irishman, and it is supposed he will make for London, by way of Sheffield. Information to be given to Head Constable Beard, Town Hall, Glossop, Derby. Ihnr- streat, July aSO.
