" » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letter* addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Armg, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mali, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING Further information respecting the man, unknown, who was found at Cuckfield, Sussex, on the morning of the 29th ultimo, and supposed to have b. en murdered, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6th instant : an inquest has siuce been held upon the body, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' returned against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by the Police, and a further reward of £ 100 will he paid by Her Majesty's Government, to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and c nvietiou of the murderer or murderers, and Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who acually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as wi 1 lead to a like result. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superiutendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex. — Bow street, December 20. JOHN JONES, alias SHON POBMAN, charged with stubbing and maliciously wounding Hugh Hughes, of the parish of Llangaffo, county of Anglesey, on the night of the 11th instant; has been a sailor or marine on board H. M. S., Hastings; is a native of Cwanystwith ( not far from Pontrhy- digroes), Cardiganshire, and had an uncle living at Strata- florida, called' Will Rhybin'. He is about 33 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, pale complexion, full cheeks, no whiskers, lightish tuft over chin ; when last seen he wore a black frock coat; speaks with a South Wales accent, a cut mark on left eyebrow, a ring in blue on second finger of left hand, and has been twice convicted in Anglesey under the Vagrant Act and once in Plymouth f r being drunk and riotous. A warrant has been granted, and £ 1 leward will be given for his apprehension. information to be given at the Police Station, Menai Bridge, Anglesey.— Bi> w- street, December 20. Description of a man charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on James Garvey, at Stockton, on the 12th inst. : EDWARD NUGENT, 26 or 28 yesrs of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, black or dark brown hair, daik moustache, whiskers shaved off, scar on side of face, stout figure, lately resided at Stockton, is a labourer at iron works, and is single. Information to be given at the Durham County Constabulary Station, Stockton.— Bow- street, December 15. FORGEKY. Description of WILLIAM COOPER, charged with forging a Bill of Exchange tor £ 98 10s.: he is 44 years of age, 6 feet 9£ inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, large brown whiskers, fresh complexion, full round features, rather full eyes, proportionate build, good appearance ; dressed in dark mixture trousers, and shooting coat, black vest, and silk hat, a cloth manufacturer, last residence Guiseley, near Leeds. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Grauhan, Bradford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, Dcc. 17. On the 2nd instant, a forged cheque for £ 10, dated 28th November, 1869, on the Clapham Branch of the London and South Western Bank, Limited, No. 10165, signed ' Henry Bridges,' and endorsed ' Henry Johnson, Horsham, Sussex,' was uttered by three men of the following description to a tradesman at Maidstone, in payment of a small debt which one of the party had contracted, and for which he received the change. They are likely to be found together in one of the adjoining counties, or visiting the different towns in the county of Kent: One about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather dark complexion, thin fnce, dark hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, slight build, late of Maidstone, a wooden hoop maker, and is supposed to have his wife with him ; dressed in an old brown overcoat, light undercoat and vest, dark cloth trousers worn at the ankles, and blucher boots, with a piece cut out as if to ease a corn on little toe. Another, from 35 to 40 years of age, middle height, full face, fresh complexion, dark hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, walks with a quick step ; dressed in black, with short- cut coat with pockets at sides, light necktie with pin, low- crowned hat with white bone huckle on the hand, and black elastic cord attached, and lace- up boots, with thick soles and broad across the toes. The other, 45 or 50 years of age, light hair and slight whiskers ( short), talks in a low tone of voice, Sussex accent ; dressed in high- crowned hat, brown coat, light worsted cord trousers, and Wellington boots; has an umbrella with him, which he generally carries behind his hack. Information to be given to the Chief Superintendent, Borough Police Office, Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, December 17. SLOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PEKSON. Stolen from the person of a female at Bury St. Edmunds, on the 18th instant: a nmll silver Geneva Watch, makers Stauffer and Co., No. 10132, engine turned case, and white dial. Stolen on the 18th instant in the Market, Gravesend, from the person of Mr. Twoart : a silver Geneva Watch, open face, No. 30843. Information to be given to Head Constable White, Town Hall, Gravesend.— Boxn- street, Decimbsr 20. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Mr. Pablo Fanque's Circus, on the 11th instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 1146, maker Hayes. On the morning of the l7' h instant, about one o'clock, the dwelling- house of the Rev. — Penruddock, at Everley, Wilts, was broken into by a man dre sed in an old velveteen coat, cord trousers, and bad boots, one worn out, and a jimcrow hat; he was a dark man, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches higb, black whiskers, and stubs on his face as if not shaven for some daye. The servant fired a pistol at the time, and she thinks hit him on the left band, or on the left side. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretton, Msriborough, Wilts.— Bow- street, December 20. During the night of the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Sophia Yalden, of Eversley. was burglariously entered, and the following articles sr" l- n therein : two silver table Spoons ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, marked 1 T. Y.,' a brown silk Umbrella ; a small gold Brooch, with plaited hair insid • ; a large black and white plaid Shawl ; a black Feather ; and an old pinchbeck Watch. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Troke, Hants Constabulary. Aldershot, or to Sergeant Godfrey, Eversley.— Bow street, D ember 20. Between 10 p. m. on the 15th and 6 a. m. on the 16th inst., the cottage of William Craft, at Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks, was entered, and the following property stolen: an old- fashioned silver verge Watch hra- s hands, Roman figures, maker J. Williams, London, No 1^ 995, with steel Chain and six Keys in the shape of a star attached ; two cotton Handker- chiefs, blue and white pattern ; ai d a tin Coffee Can. Sup- posed by a man about 30 years of age, 5 teet 4 or 5 inches high, rather stout, leans forward when walking, dark com- plexion, black hair, little or no whiskers; dressed in a long black coat, dark green smock frock underneath, heavy lace- up boots tipped at heel, and hal the appearance of a drover. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Police Station, Slough, or to Inspector Ray, Beaconsfisld, Bucks.— — Bow- street, December 20. About 3' 45 a. m. on the 14th instant a watchmaker's shop in the city of Gloucester was broken into, by taking down one of the shutters, which was not securely fastened, a pane of glass broken in the window, and the following Articles stolen therein, the property of Mr. Alfred Glave : five German silver Watches, one No. 22727, one hunting, two silver verge ( one No, 32788), one verge, without a taee or outside cases, • Watts,' engraved on back ot inside esse, No. 2777 ; three silver Geneva Watches, a lady's long plated curb Cnain, small pattern, attached ; two verge hunting Watches ; a silver Geneva Watch, silver Albert Chain attached ; they are old Watches, and had been sent to be repaired. Supposed by a man, about 6 feet 6 inches high, middle siz-, thin features, and light about legs; dressed in a light cap with peak, dark monkey jacket, red and white muffler round his neck, old dark trousers, patch upon knee, and old lace- up boots. Believed to have been a sailor, speaks with a foreign accent, and mixes with seamen. He visited the shop on the previous night, and tried to dispose of a watch, and was seeu near the premises shortly before the robbery. £ 5 reward will he paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender, and recovery of the property. During the night of the 14 h instant the dwelling- house of John Thomas Smith, auctioneer and builder, Tyler's- green, North Weald, Bissett, was broken into, and the follow- ing articles stolen therein : a blue treat Overcoat ; a wide- awake Hat ; a silk Wrapper ; a wool Mat made of sheepskin ; a carpenter's Basket, containing two dozen of new Chisels with turned handles; a new pair of lace- up clump Boots, with eyelet holes and fancy toe- cip ; a gilt chimney Timepiece ; a silver Pencil- case ; a plated Penholder ; a Reading glass, large size ; a glazier's Diamond ; a cut glass Sugar Basin ; a plated Mustard Spoon ; four silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S. K.;' a silver Salt Spoon ; two dozen of ivory- handled Knives and Forks ; a Carviog Knife and Fork with ivory handles, makers Philip and Lewis, Artillery- street, Bishopsgate Within; a fancy pattern Steel ; five brown and gold china Cups ; three brown and gold china Saucers ; two blue- edged china Saucers ; six dresden china Cups and Saucers; four dresden china Images ; two small silver Boxes, lined with gold ; a quantity of old- fashioned Luce, very valuable. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bow- street, December 17. Between 4 and 5 p. m. on the 11th instsnt the dwelling- house of John Castle, of Patrixbourne, near Canterbury, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : a pair of cord Trousers and a black Dre s ( since recovered) ; two old white cotton Shirts, marked in red cotton ' A. C.' on flap. By a man and woman of the following description : tbe man is about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, very slight build ; dressed in hi c'< cloth coat, dark trousers, and a stiff low- crowned black hat ; the woman is about 25 years of age, ' about ft feet 3 inches high, rather stout built, full round face ; dressed in dark dress, dark shawl or cloak, and black bonnet. Information to be given to Superintendent Walker, Kent Constabulary, Canterbury, or to Sergeant Moore, Lower Hardres — Bow- street, December 17. During the night of the 14th instant, a dwelling- house in Tunbridge Wells was broken nnd entered, and the following property stolen therein : a Cash Box, with ' S. T. Wrenstead,' in gilt letters inside, containing Papers, Steel Pens, a Telescope in brown leather ease, with the initials ' T. W.,' and a magni- fying Glass in horn case. Information to be .. ven to Chief Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— — Bow- strect, December 17. >. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between thj 11th and 12th instant, from the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow: four elephant's Tusks, two of them measuring 4 teet each in length, the other two 5 feet each in length, and weighing each 40 lbs. Information to be given to Cnief Constable Smart, Detective Department, Glasgow.— Bow- street, December 15. £ gORS£ AID CA1IXE ^ TMUX& Description of JOHN ELLIS, committed to take his trial at the next Gloucester Quarter Sessions, to be held on the 5th Jan. next, for horse stealing. He is 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, dark eyes black hair, whiskers snd beard shaved off, dark moustache, has a small wart under right eye, and his two middle fingers of right hand contracted ; he is dres* d in an old black coat and vest, white corduroy breeches, hig i boots, and hard round hat ; he is a stableman and horse clipper, and states he is a native of Penrith, Cumberland, and that he has worked in London and Kent; he first obtained the hor^ e under the pretence of clipping it, then absconded, aud sold it; it is strongly sus- pected that he is wanted tor offences elsewhere, and that he has been previously convicted. Information to be given to Super- intendent Day, Constabulary Office, Cheltenham.— Bow- street, December 20. Stolen from a stable in a close near St. Ives, Hunts, between G and 7 p. m. on the 15th instant, a valuable bay Horse, G years old, 15 hands 2 inches hi< h, dark mane and tail, white spot on withers, ciused by saddle, aud one white hind foot, mane and tail very long, and coat rough, when the horse was stolen. A young m in was seen riding the horse without a saddle in the direction of Cambridge, he was dressed in a dark round jacket, woollen cap, aud tight fitting trousers. Information to oe given to Superintendent Brown, St. Ives, Hunts.— Bow- street, December 20. Stolen on the 10th ultimo, from Cudeford Bridge, in the parish of Shaugh, Devon : two filly Colts, rising 3 years old, one a dark bay, with blsck legs, and large star in fore- head ; the other a light bay, with one white foot behind, and small star in forehead. £ l reward will be paid by Mr. James Maddock, Shaugh, the owner, on recovery of the colts. Stolen from Edenbridge Railway Station, on the 10th instant: an Alderney Cow, red and black mixture colour, rather a peculiar tail, and two notcnes tiled in the left horn. Bexley Heath, the prope rty of Mr. William Branch, of Bexley Heath : o Pony, Cart, and Harness, the pony is a dark brown Horse, 9 years oh J, 11 hands high, white mark on near shoulder, rather rough coat, in good condition ; the cart is a light spring painted chocolate colour, picked out with red, a small splash board on front, maker s name on side ; the harness is plain brass mounted, one ring on off side of hames bent up ; the cart and harness are both rather old. Description of THOMAS DAVIS, who has absconded from Worcester, charged uuder warrant with having stolen two £ 5 Bank of England Notes ; two Sovereigns ; a Wedding Ring; a gold Keeper ; nv<> pairs of gold Ear rings; a Ring, heart shape ; a lady's gold Geneva Watch, with yellow figured dial ; a loug guard Chain one link broken, and fastened with a thread : about 20 years of age, 5 teet 8 inches high, very light hnir, fair complexion, and birth mark near right eye ; lie has served 3 years in the Artillery, and has a temporary pension. Information to be given to the Worcester City Police — Bow- street, December 17. Further information respecting the man charged with larceny at Egton, advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 6th instant: it has been ascertained that his name is WILLIAM MILNER, a native of Dudley Hill near Bradford, at which place his parents reside, he also has a brother living at Bees on, near Leeds. Absconded from Berkeley, on tho 20 h ultimo, charged with stealing a railway Rug, the property of the Midland Railway Company, w. icti has been recovered, FRANCIS, alias FRANK TYRRELL, a horse clipper or stableman, about 30 years ot age, 5 feet 3 inches high, small made, dark com- plexion aud whiskers ; dressed in a black bowler hat, dark jacket, with pockets at the sides, cord breeches, aud brown leather leggings, fitting tight over the boot; he has a brother residing at No. 7, Queen- street, Bedminster, Bristol, anda wife and child at Slough, where he formerly worked for a Mr, Ford, a publican, he is well known in Cheltenham and Oxford. In- formation to be giveu to Sergeant Ford, Berkeley, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— How- street, December 15. Absconded from Darlington on the 7' h instant, charged with stealing three photographic Lenses, the property of his employer: WILLIAM JOHN ADAMS. alias HARRIS, a photographer, about 33 years ot age, 6 feet high, fair com- plexion^ light- coloured hair, sandy b nrd and moustache, rather baldheaded, broad face and shoulders, slightly bow- legged, and walks erect; dressed in blue pilot, cloth short reefer coat, black vest, dark grey striped trousers, black wideawake hat looped up at one eide, with elastic hat guard, Wellington boots, wore a leather belt instead of braces, jet albert chain, with Bennett's silver lever watch attached aud Bennett s silver Anemometer in morrucco case, had a black leather portmanteau with two brass locks ou top, and pocket flaps at side.
