The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notlee. — It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may beur the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to • tfr. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- tiended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of ' he offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the 1 Advertisement, forwarded to tbe Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the I'OLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor OOlKast be (> re| l& Sd, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It Is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from tbe Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall MaU, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MXJKDEK AND MALICIOUSLY WOONBIJMO On the 4th instant, JAMES BURNES, a stonemason, was killed at Salford, and on the 14ih the coroner's jury returned a verdict of ' wilful murder against somo person or persons unknown.' A warrant has been granted for the appre- hension of two men of the following description : JONATHAN alias JAUNTY EDWARDS, a union brick- maker, lately lived in Walter- street, Clowes- street, West Gorton, near Manches'er, about 32 years of age, about 6 feet 4 inches high, stiff build, round red face, sandy whiskers, is very proud, and fond of talking in company ; dressed in black cloth or pepper- and- salt mixture coat, black velvet or green flowered, white ground, washing vest, light woollen cord trouseis, patent leather boots, woollen or white calico shirt, with linen fancy frilled front, tall black silk hat, silver watch, and gold plated guard ; is married, has sold up his house, gone, and left his wite behind. This man was notorious in the late Trades Union Inquiry at Mmches'er. THOMAS, alias TOM EDWARDS, a union brickmaker, brother to the above, lately lived with his mother and brother in Mary- s'reet, Regeut- road, Salford, 24 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, full ied face, swarthy or sallow com- plexion, owing to exposure to the sun, dark cast or look, slight moustache, may have slight downy beard, walks verv erect, and has a swaggering gait ; dressed when last seen ( 4th inst.), in working clothes aud heavy navvy boots, such as are worn by brickmakers, but is now supposed to be dressed in dark cloth clothes, aud no doubt will bear as respectable an appear- ance as his brother. Most likely thev will be found together, and they may have an ordinary carpet bag with them ; it is supposed that they went away on the 9th instant, and that they will emigrate. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, and £ 60 by the Corporation of Salford, to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the murderer or murderers ot the said JameB Burnes; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant ot Her Maj- sty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who will give such information as shall lead to that result. Information to be given to Captain Torrens, Chief Constable, Salford, or to Superintendent Williams, Detective Department, Town Hall, Salford.— Bow- tt., October 29. Farther information respecting the child found in a mill dam at White Lee, Midgley, on the 4th instant, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant ; at an adjoined inquest held on the 15tli insiant, a verdict of wilful murder againtt some person or persons uuknown was returned by the coroner's jury. Information to be given at the West Riding Constabu- lary Office, Halifax.— Bow- street, October 20. The dead body of a newly born female infant child, tied up in a brown paper parcel, was found in the river Medway, in the parish of Boxley, Kent, on the 13th instant ; an inquest was held on the 15th instant, and a Verdict of Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown, returned. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Ovenden, Kent County Constabulary, Maidstone.— Bow- street, October 20. FORGERY. Description of HENRY HERBERT WRIGHT, clerk to Messrs. John Hunt and Co , Communication- row, Birmingham, charged with obtaining £ 122 by means of a forged order, on the 16th instant : about 31 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, beard, and moustache, nervous and sanguine, aiid walks very much on his heels ; dresses plainly and wears a tall hat. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Glosaop, Birmingham,— Bow- street, October 25, Absconded charged upon a warrant with forging a cheque for .£ 60 : GEORGE MASON, 16 years of age,. looks older, 6 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, rather sullen looking, with shuffling gait ; dre » sec in brown tweed coat, supposed dark trousers and vest, and black hat; he is accom- panied by a boy named JAMES DAVIS. 16 years of age, 5 ft. 3 or 4 inches high, slightly made florid complexion, and fair hair ; dressed in dark blue coat, light troupers, and champagne charley hat ; it is thought that they may be stopping at some lodging- house in London or the provinces Information to be g: ven to Superintendent Williamson. Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, Whitehall, S. W.— Ron- st., October 22. On the 13th inst., WILLIAM HARVEY, of Framsden, labourer, obtained cash for a forged cheque for £ 60 10s„ at Woodbridge, and received eight £ 5 Notes on Alexanders and Co , Nos. D 632, 245, 915, 989 2135, 2399, 2643, and 1445; one of these notes was subsequently changed for cold at Debenham, and a few days after another was off. red at the same place, but the police were Bent for. and the man who wanted the change absconded before a policeman arrived. A warrant is now in the hands of the police against Wm. Harvey, above mentioned : he is about 28 y ars of age 5 feet 8 inches high, light curly hair, small whiskers and beard under the chin ; dresses in dark clothes, and is respectable in appearance. The notes D 632, 2543 and 989 are recovered. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Woodbridge, Suttolk. — Bow- street, October 22. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM TH£ PERSON- Stolen from the person during the Races at Chelmsford, on the 20th instant, a round gold scarf Pin, with a broad flat edge, and a cup like depression in the centre, in which a diamond was set. £ 2 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the recovery of the property, aud conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given at the Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- sireet October 29. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Melton Mowbray Statutes on the 22nd instant : a J plate silver Geneva Watch, aud Metal Chain, No. 9764, maker Girnier, ' Thos. Hawley,' scratched on the inside case. Information to be given to Super intendent Platts, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, October 25. BURGLARY AND HCYTS£ BREAKING. Between 12 and 8 a. m. on the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Edward Bishop, of Brockham, in the parish of Betchworth, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : a blue Overcoat, velvet collar and cuffs; a light brown Overcoat ; a pair of new lace- up Boots, cowhide ; four plated Table Forks ; four Dessert ditto ; four ditto Spoons ; two ditto Table Spoons ; a pair of Sugar Tongs ; a Carving Knife and Fork ; four large ditto; two or three small ditto. On the night of the 29 th ult. the vicarage of Llanfair was burglariously broken iuto and the following property stolen therein : the Sacramental Flagon aud Cup, both of plated silver ; a dark cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, single breasted, fly fronted, and much worn ; a Dog Whip, having a silver ferrule on the handle and a white bone dog's bead, having a whistle in it ; two bottles of Wine ; two jars of Jam ; one ditto of pickled Onions ; some Bread, Cheese, Butter, Dripping, & c. Supposed by two tramps, one of whom is a biar tall man. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Streflord, Welsh- pool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen from a cottage, about three miles from Ne wmarket, by means of housebreaking, between 10 a. m. and 1 p. m. of the 26th instant : an old silver Watch, with Seal ( worn) and one or two Keys ; and a pair of girl's heavy Shoes, nailed ; and some Bread, Meat. & c. Supposed by a uian and boy of the following description who pissed along, going towards Cam- bridge or Saffron Walden : the man is about 40 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, unshaven for a fortnight, and dressed in dark clothes and cap. The boy is about 12 years of age, and dressed in dark clothes Information to he given to Super- intendent Benson, Newmarket, Cambs.— Bow street, Oct. 29. During the night of the 23rd instant, the shop of Catharine Morris, of Can Office, near Llanfair, Montgomeryshire, was broken into, and tbe following articles stolen therein : 5 lbs. ot fresh Butter, made up in pounds: one shilling, two sixpenny, and a threepenny loaf of Bread ; 2 lbs. of shag Tobacco ; a table Knife ; a Towel; and a tin water Can. Information to he given to Superintendent Strefford, Welsh- pool, or to P. C. Davies, Llanerfyl, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, October 27. Between 10 30 a. m. and 2- 30 p. m. on the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Richard Carter, of the township of Hudswell, near Richmond, was broken into during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therein : a black cloth Coat and Vest; a blue mixture cloth Coat and Vest, with outside pockets ; a pair of woollen cord Trousers, newly washed ; a pair of fustian Trousers ; a white Tablecloth ; a Tape- line in brass case ; three pairs of Spectacles ; a pair of old strong lace- up Boots; J- lb. of Tea, 2 lbs. of Sugar, and a number of salt Herrings. Supposed bv two tramps who were seen about the house : about 20 years of age, short, slender build; dressed in datk cloth clothes and caps. Stolen from a field at Woodford, duriDg the night of the 16th ultimo : a two year old black mare Colt, half bred, 15 hands high, tail cut square, while star in forehead, hind feet white, a curl in the hair on centre of neck, on the near side, the hair rubbed with the collar, been fresh harnessed ; also a two year old grey Pony, 13 bands high, recently shod in front, no shoes behind, and lame on near foot behind. Information to be given to Superintendent Gibson, Fisherton, Salisbury.— Bow slrect, November 1. Stolen during the night of the 27' h ultimo, from afield, the property of George Guy, of Muker: a light grey Pony 13 hands high, rising 3 years old, recently shod, with switch tail rather darker than any other part. Information to be given to Superintendent Melling, North Riding Constabulary Office, Richmond, Yorkshire.— bow street, November 1. Sto'en from a field on the 25lh ultimo, at Grafton Flyford, Worcestershire, a halt- bred light, hay Horse, 6 years old, 16 bands high, black mane a id tail, one leg light colour, and in good condition, the property of Mr. Faulkuer. Information to be given to Superintendent Harris, Worcestershire Constabu- lary, Pershore,— Bcw- tlrcet, November I. Stolen from Chapple Farm, in the parish of Drewsteignton, Devon, on the night of the 24 h instant: a chestnut Mare, 4 years old, about 14 hands high, rather slight built, in low con- dition, tail cut square, white streak down over face, has a pit at the point of the near shoulder, a collar gall on the same shoulder, and a white spot on the inside of ti e near fore foot, the property of Mr. James Cassell, of the above named farm. Information to be tiven to Sergeant Pike, Devon Constabulary, Moretonhampstead, or to the Chief Constable of Devon Police Office, Paris- street, Exeter.— Bow- street, Ocober 29, Supposed to have been s olen trom a field at Filkins, Oxon, during the night of the 18 h instant : a stout made cream coloured Pony. 13 hands high, aged, black legs, mane and tail, mottled about the body, and in good condition, the property of Mr. Samuel Smith, of Somerton, Deddington, farmer. If stolen, a reward of £ 1 will be paid for such information as shall lead to the conviction of tbe offender or offenders and its restoration to the owner. Supposed stolon from Brentwood, on the 15th instant: a dark chesnut mare Pony, about 8 years old, 14 hands high, and long tail. Stolen from a field at Walsall, during the night of the 20th instant, the property of Henry Hammond : a bay horse Pony, 6 years old, 12 hands high, saddle marked, while hind fetlocks, bang tail, and in low condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Boa- street, October 27. Description of JOHN MILLER, of Tofts of Tain, in the parish of Bower, and county ot Caithness, charged with Sheep stealing: he is about 23 years of age, about 6 feet 7 ioches high, stout, slightly pockpitted, large held and mouth, very thick and prominent lips, light hair, whiskers, and moustache ( inclined to curl) ; supposed dressed in dark tweed suit and round bat. Was last heard of at his father's house, on the 23rd instant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Mitchell, County Police Office, Wick, Caithness shire, who holds a warrant lor bis apprehension, and by whom £ 2 reward will be paid.— Bow- sireet, Ocl- her 27. Stolen from a field at Doughton. in the parish of Tetbury, on the night of the 19th instant: a dark bay cart Mare, 5 years old, with the hair dialed off the near side and shoulder, with sand crack in one ot the fore ftet, and a little white on one of hei heels, with black mane and tail, the property of Mr. George Giles, of Tetbury, farmer. If stolen, £ 2 reward will be paid on conviction and recovery of the mare ; if strayed, all reasonable expenses will be paid. He is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, blue eyes, rather pointed nose, full face, fair complexion, whiskers and beard shaved off; dressed in round cmwned velvet hat with small white spots, short blue reefing jscket, the binding of which is much worn, blue or brown vest,, brown flowered satin necktie, light trousers with dark stripes at sides, leather leggings, and Wellington boots. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Barber, Portsmouth, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen during the ni< jht of the 29th or early on the morning of the 30th ultimo, from the dwelling- house of William Barron, of Draycott, near Derby : a silver verge Watch, plain case, dial cracked in three places, makers Ban- croft and Woodward, Derby, No. 294, steel Chain and silver American Quarter- dollar attached; 12s in Silver; a grey Overcoat, lined wiih black and white check cloth, two pockets outside and a ticket pocket. Absconded from Walsall on the 27th ultimo, charged with stealing a hand Cart, a chimney sweeping Machine, mid other articles, since recovered : JAMES SMALLEY, a sweep, 28 hi use at St. Liwrence, a black cloth Coat, nearly new, two fhecket in hips and one in right breast: he is about 25 years of age 5 feet 2 to 4 inches high, dark hair, few dark whiskers, dark eyes, which he rolls when talking, and pale complexion : dressed in dark cloth clothes and black hat ; is by trade a tailor, and a native ot Boston, Lincolnshire. He was traced to Canterbury on the afternoon ot the robbery, and will probably make for London, either selling or pledging the coat on the road. Absconded, charted with sheep stealing at Saxilby, on the 14th instant: SAMUEL RAYNOR, drover, a native of Wellow, Notts, about 35 years of age, neatly 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and complexion, and dressed in a long dark coat, dark trousers, and soft billycock hat; has heen in the army, and has an anchor and other figures tattooed on back of hands. He is well known amongst cattle dealers and drovers in the counties of Lincoln, Nottingham, Leicester*, and Northampton, and attends fairs, maikets, & c., seeking and black woollen shift white flannel shirt, and drawers of : employment, as a drover.
