The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with emery particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 4800 . IVotlee.— It la requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the namt is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the 1' OLICE GAZETTE, * ll Letter* addressed to the Editor aanat tie prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without h s authority. INFORMATIONS. ® ITRDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING On the 4th instant, JAMES BURNES, a stonemason, was killed at Salford, and ou the 14th the coroner's jury returned a verdict of 4 wilful murder ugainst some person or persons unknown.' A warrant has been granted for tbe appre- hension of two men of the following description : JONATHAN alias JAUNTY EDWARDS, a union brick- maker, lately lived in Walter street, Clowes- street, West Gorton, near Manchester, about 32 years of age, about 6 feet 4 inches high, stiff build, round red face, sandy whiskers, is very proud, and fond of talking in company ; dreesed in black cloth or pepper- and- salt mixture coat, black velvet or green flowered, white ground, washing vest, light woollen cord trouseis, patent leather boots, woollen or white calico shirt, • with linen fancy frilled front, tall black silk hat, silver watch, and gold plated guard ; is married, has sold up his house, gone, and left his wife behind. This man was notorious in the late Trades Union Inquiry at Manchester. THOMAS, alms TOM EDWARDS, a union brickmaker, brother to the above, lately lived with his mother and brother in Mary street, Regent- road, Salford, 24 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 incht s high, full ted face, swarthy or sallow com- plexion, owing to exposure to the sun, dark cast or look, slight moustache, may have slight downy beard, walks verv erect, and has a swaggering gait ; dressed when last seen ( 4th inat.), in working clothes and heavy navvy boots, such as are worn by brick makers, but is now supposed to be dressed in dark cloth clothes, and no doubt will bear as respectable an appear- ance as his brother. Mo » t likely thev will be found together, and they may have an ordinary carpet bag with them; it is supposed that they went away on the 9th instant, and that they will emigrate. Further information respecting the child found in a mill dam at White Lee, Midgley, on the 4th instant, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant ; at an adjoined inquest held on the 15th instant, a verdict of wilful murder against some person or i ersons unknown was returned by the coroner's jury. The dead body of a newly born female infant child, tied up in a brown paper parcel, was found in the river Medway, in the parish of Boxley, Kent, on the 13th instant ; an inquest was held on the 16th instant, and a verdict of Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown, returned. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Ovenden, Kent County Constabulary, Maidstone.— Bow- street, October 20. about 40 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, thin dark features, dark hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, and stoops rather when walking ; dressed in billycock hat, turned up at sides, which slouches over the eyes, dark cloth pilot shaped coat, buttoned across the chest, no waistcoat, black ord trousers, much worn at the bottom, and torn up the inside of the leg, and light shoes with brass eyelet- holes. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Stretten, Chesterton, Cambridge.— Bow- ftreet, October 15. FORGERY. Absconded charged upon a warrant with forging a cheque for ,£ 60 : GEORGE MASON, 10 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 4 inches high, sillow complexion, brown bair, rather sullen looking, with shuffling gait; dressed in brown tweed coat, supposed dark trousers and vest, and black hat; he is accom- panied by a boy named JAMES DAVIS, 16 years of age, 6 ft. 3 or 4 inches high, slightly made, florid complexion, and fair hair ; dressed in dark blue coat, light trousers, atid champagne charley hat ; it is thought that they may be stopping at some lodging- house in London or the provinces Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, Whitehall, S. W.— How st., Oc ober 22. On the 13. h inst., WILLIAM HARVEY, of Framsden, labourer, obtained cash for a forged cheque tor £(> 0 10s., at Woodbridge, and received eight £ 5 Nose9 on Alexanders and Co, Nos. D 632, 245, 916, 989 2i35, 2399, 2643, and 1446 ; one of these notes was subsequently changed for gold at Debenham, and a few days after another was offered at the same place, but the police were sent for, and the man who wanted the change absconded before a policeman arrived. A warrant is now in the hands of the police againBt Wm. Harvey, above mentioned : he is about 28 y ars of age. 6 feet 8 inches high, lifht curly hair, small whiskers and heard under the chin ; dresses in dark clothes, ai d is respectable in appearance. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the fair at Buckingham, on the evening of the 16th instant: a f plaie gold English lever Watch, rather over medium size, jewelled in two holes, seconds hand, and garter on back, No. 8117. £ 6 reward will be paid on recovery of the watch and conviction of the iffeuder or offenders. A robbery was committed on the person of Mary Jones, of Trymercham, about 7 p. m. on the 13th instant, on the highway, near Ewm, and 3s. in Silver stolen from her. By a man, 28 or 30 years of age, 6 leet 8 or 9 inches high, no whiskers, stout build ; dressed in a dark long- tailed coat, very much torn about the sleeves, cord trousers, very dirty dark cap, and lace up boots; he was accompanied by a man about 40 years of age ; dressed in a grey suit ; both tramps. Stolen from the person at, Barnstaple, on the 17th ultimo: a gold English lever Watch, No. 9161, ' J. W.' eugraved near the hinge. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Tunbridge Fair, on the 11th instant, a gold duplex Watch, capped and jewelled, compensation balance, engine turned, a gold albert Chain, long links, and Seal with crest. Information to be given to Super- intendent Dance, Kent County Constabulary, Tunbridge.— bow street, October 15- ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING Description of RICHARD GLENCROSS, charged with setting fire to a quantity of Hay on the 9th instant, the pro- perty of Maurice Griffith Evans, in the parish of Narberth, Pembrokeshire : he is 27 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light sandy hair, inclined to curl, proportionate figure, a coach builder by trade, has a peculiar way of winking with his eyes when talking ; dressed in round white hat, dark coat, drab trousers, aid a brown cloth overcoat; he is well known in Swausea, having served his apprenticeship with Mr, Holloway, wheelwright, Oxford- street, has a brother in Kid welly, and was brought up in Carmarthen, where his parents resided, has also friends in Newport, Monmouthshire. Informa- tion to be tiven to County Chief Constable Stokes, Haverford- west, to Superintendent Evans, Pembroke, or to Police Sergeant Irving, Narberth. South Wales, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, Octob r 18. Description of a tramp charged with setting fire to the premises of Mr. Richard Holben, at Barton, on the 12th inst. : BURGLARY AND HOU81 BREAKING. Between 12 midnight 20th and 6 a. m. ou the 21st inst., the dwelling- house of the Rev. E. Clayton. Rector of Astbury, was burglariously brokeu into and tbe following property stolen : about £ 5 or £ 6 in Gold, Silver, and Copper Coins; an oblong plated Inkstand ; a round raised oxidised metal Inkstand ; a small round silver Box ; and the Top of a metal Inkstand, stamped with the family crest. Information to be given to Sergeaut Naylor, Astbury, or to Superintendent Row- bottom, Middlewich, Cheshire— Bow street, Octobcr 22. During the night of the 19th instant, the farmhouse of Mr. Evans, Penisafyllan, in the parish of Llansantffraid, Montgomeryshire, was broken into, and a pair of light elastic- side Boots, toe capped, men's size, recently tapped, sprigs in heels and forepart, a pair of cloth Boots, and about 10 lbs. of Cheese, stolen therein. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Strefford, Welshpool, or to Policc Constable Williams, Llansantffraid, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, October 22, Stoleu from the dwelling- house of William Brown, Eist Grinstead, about 3 p. m. on the 16th instant: an old mttal Watch, has a piece broken out of the face, at the figure 6. and a German silver Chain attached, a grey shooting Jacket, with two pockets outside, and one inside bieast, two old Clarionets, a Flute, and a Fife. Supposed by a roan, about 25 years of 8ge, 6 feet 6 inches high, Jigiit complexion ; dressed in the stolen jacket, light trousers, dark cap. aud red necktie. Infor- mation to be civen to Superintendent Kerward, Police Station, East Grinstead.— Bow street, October 22. Between 3 and 7 p. m. on the 16th instant, the cottage of Martha Brown, in the parish of Christleton, was broken into, and stolen therein : 4 white calico Shifts, marked ' M. W.' on the Bhoulder in black ink. 3 pairs of white calico Drawers, marked ' M. W.' on the middle of the waistband. 3 flannel Petticoats, maiked ' M. W.' between the button holes. 3 linsey Petticoats, marked in the centre of the band with black worsted, one with red and green stripes round it. 4 cotton Dresses, 1 brown merino Dress. 1 blue and green merino Dress. 1 large black woollen scarf Shawl. 1 light Shawl, with silk fringe. 1 light Shawl, with white centre and silk fringe. 1 black cloth Cloak. 1 pair of cloth Boots, lace up the sides. 3 brown holland Aprone. 3 diaper Aprons. 3 pairs of white cotton Stockings. 3 pairs of white woollen knit Stockings. During the night of the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Richard Goulding, of Tarrant Monkton, Dorset, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dark cloth Coat, with a small grey stripe, dark buttons and lining, one breast pocket inside, and two pockets outside with flips, two Half Sovereigns, about 46H. in Silv. r, and 4". 6d. iu Cuppers. Also stolen the Some night from Hie shop of Mr. Richard Dommy, of Salisbury- Street, Blandford : £ 14 10s in Gold and Silver, and a leg ot Poik. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Brown; Dorset Constabulary, Blandford.— Wow sireei, ... nn . , Between 3 and 9 p. m. on the 14th instant, the dwelling- house ot T. W. Pratt, of Bourton, Oxon, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and stolen therein : 1 small silver Geneva Watch. 1 plain silk Sunshade. 1 pair of gold Ear rings, with blue stones. 1 set of gold Shirt Studs, with flower in centre, 1 gold coral Brooch. 1 gold Brooch, shape of a heart. 1 plain gold Broocb. 1 diamond Ring. 1 gold Keeper Ring. 1 plain ditto. Supposed by four men, who were seen near the bouse, three of whom are of the following description : one about, 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, pockpitted walked lame, and carrird a black bag with a strap over h's shoulder ; dressed in high hat, aud dark clothes. Another 30 years of age, about 6 feet 7 nclies high, large black bushy whiskers, and curly hair; dressed in dark clothes, high hat, very much curled in the brim. And the other about 26 years of age, about 6 feet 7 nches high ; dressed in black billycock hat, and dark clothes. They came from Birmingham to Banbury by an excursion train, on the above day and were traced in the direction of Birmingham. Information to be given to Superintendent Whadcoat, County Police Station, Banbury, Oxon.- how- street, Octuber 20. On the 17th instant, about mid- day, a house was broken into at Hardwick, near Ellesmere, in the county of Salop, and the following property stolen therein: a pair of brown and white striped cloth Trousers and Waistcoat ; a white Shirt; a pair of elastic- side gutta percha Boots ; a pair of Spectacles, in case ; and a Purse, containing 6s. or 8s. By three tramps, who, on leaving the house, put on the stolen clothes under their own : one about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and small beard ; dressed in old dark clothes and cap. Another about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, light complexion, and very little beard ; dressed in dark jacket, cord trousers and vest, and cap. And the other from 12 to 15 years of age, dressed in dark clothes and cap; they have been tramping through Lancashire, with a girl, who is in custody, on suspicion of being concerned in the robbery, and were making their way to Kidderminster. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, October 20. On the night of the 4th instant, the laundry of the Rev. W. Thicken's house, Kersley, was broken into, and about 18 silk Pocket- handkerchiefs, of various colours, and 2 white full fronted Shirts, marked ' W. T.' and 1 Ford's Patent Euruka Shirts,' printed inside collar. A tramp, who is known by the nam* of IRISH JIMMY, or JIMMY THE SOLDIER, is suspected, 30 jears of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, freckled face ; dressed in dark cloth cap, old brown mixture cost, white slop, old fustian trousers odd pair of elastic side boots, tight boot good and pegged bottom and left cut in three or four places down front, and brass sprigs in bottom, is wearing one of the stolen shirts, and one of the handkerchiefs ; will be found at low tramp lodging houses or iu tramp wards at. workhouses; he is generally in company with Pat Coffee, an Irishman, who is always barefoot. £ 2 2s. reward will be paid on his apprehen- sion. October 22. into, and a ham of Bacon, about 29 lbs, and a calico Bag stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, October 18. During the night of the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Knight, at Slinfold, Sussex, was burglariously broken into, aud the following property stolen therein : sixteen silver Tea Spoons, two marked ' H. H.,' ihree ' P. H.,' and eleven plain ; four Salt Spoons, four Table Spoons, and a pair of Sugar Tongs, all sil er, and plain ; six Dessert Forks, and seven ditto Spoons, all plated, and plain. Two men who were seen in ihe village are suspected : both about the middle hei. ht, one of dark complexion, the other light, with whiskers shaved oft ; both t) reMed in shabby ( lurk cibthts and high hats. On thd ISffilnsMnt, the dwelling- house of John Cowherd, situate in Garbutt street, South Stockton, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a silver verge Watch, No. 6335 : an electro plated coffee Pot ', a ditto tea Pot; a ditto cream Jut; ; and a ditto sugar Basin, rose and thistle pattern. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Norih Riding Constabulary, Stokesley, or to Inspector Howes, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton.— Bow- streee, Octobir 15. Stolen by means of housebreaking from the dwelling house of Allen Hide, of West Tarring, about 10 a. m. on the 13th instant : a blue cloth Coat; a pair of worsted cord Trousers; a pair of black cloth Trousers; a white calico full fronted Shirt ; a pair of elastic Braces ; and a red cotton Pocket- haudberchief. Information to be given to Inspector Hender- son, West Sussex Constabulary, Worthing. — Bow- street, Ocober 15. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Saltley, in the occupation of Mr, Porter, on the evening of the 16th instant, or early on the nex> morning, a brown Horse, about 14 hands high, about 8 years old and blind on the off side ; has a little mark at the back of the fore leg on the near side, caused from the rubbing of the girth. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bloxham, Aston, near Birmingham — Bow- street, October 22. Found on the 10th instant in a field at Stanton Long, Salop, supposed to have been stolen : a brown mare Pony, about 13 years old, about 14 hands high, small star on forehead, tail cropped ; had on when found a Saddle with one Siirrup Iron, uo bridle. Information to be i> iven to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Bullock, Much Wenlock, Salop.— Bow- street, October 22. t Found in the parish of Iver, on the 14th instant, supposed to have been stolen : a dark biown half bred Mare, about 15 hands high, aged, black short mane, black bang tail, saddle marks ou back, and. in fair condition. Information to be giveu to Inspector Sutton, Iver, Bucks— Bow- strett, Oct' ber 20. Stolen from a field between the 14th and 17th instant, in the parish of Wark worth, the property of John Treever, inn- keeper, a light chesnut nag Mare, 14 bauds 2 inches high, rising 5 years old, very thick made, small star on forehead, kiuUyk^ uoc^ m^ e at, and in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Osborne, Towcester, or to Inspector Botherell, Brackly, Northamptonshire.— Bou>- slreet, Oc ober 20. S'olen from a field at Arncott, during the night of-. the 16th instant, a dark grey Mare, in foal, 6 years old, 15 hands high, the property of William Tompkins, farmer. A man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, and dressed in an old dark coat and black billycock hat, was seen riding the mare at Marsh Gibbon, Bucks, at 6. m. on the 1 Gib instant. £ 6 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the mare and con- viction of the offer. der. Further information respecting JOHN JARRATT, charged with stealing forty- six Sheep at Newport, Salop, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the" 11th instant £ 10 reward will be paid by the Treasurer of the Fernhill Association for the Prosecution of Felons, for his appreheusion. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- street, October 18. The Ponv detained at Newport, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the llth instant, has been identified as the one stolen from Lidgate, Suffolk, on the 5th instant, and the man in whose possession it was found, and who cave the name of GEORGE WEBB, is ascertained to be SAMUEL PARKER, and has been given into the custody of the Suffolk Constabu- lary.— Bmo- sireU, October 18. Stolen f om North Yard Farm, Roseash, Devon, about the 24th June Isst, a very dark grey horse Colt, about 14 months old, white spot, on forehead and above the off hind hoof, the property of Mr. William Searle. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood, B Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton.— Bow- street, October 18. Stolen from a field in the parish of Brackley St. Peter's, on the night ot the 14 h instant, the property ot Jas. Bryan, farmer, a dark brown nag Mare, aged, 16 bands huh, black mane, tail, and legs, in rather low condition, knees bend over when standing, has been used for omnibus work, has hair rubbed otf by crupper, and is well bred. £ 10 reward will be paid bv Mr. Bryan on recovery of the mare and convictiou of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Botterill, Police Station, Brackley, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, October 18. AR^: TAND EMBEZZLE 3IEN1 On the afternoon of the 19th instant, two men by means of flash notes and counterfeit coin, fraudulently obtained from a young gentleman, at an inn situate in North street, Wolver- hampton, a gold Watch and Chain, with Swivel, Seal and Sovereign attached, maker Hursts and Wray, Birmingham ; the No. of the watch is 8051, and cau be identified by a private mark. One man WIB about 24 years of age, 6 leet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, whiskers cut short, and wore plaid trousers aud coloured shirt. The other was about 60 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, and has a small tuft of hair on his chin. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to their apprehension, and recovery of the property. Stolen about 3 a m. on the 20th instant from tho Hobvay Mine, near Holywell: an old blue pilot Jacket, cord Trousers, stitched mBide left leg ; check Shirt; a flannel Singlet; a miner's white flannel Shirt; and a pair of miner's working Drawers, nearly new. By a tramp, a Welshman, about 24 years of age, about, 6 feet 6 inches high, wears a moustache, and stoops a little. Information to be given to Superintendent Adams, Holywell, North Wales.— Bow- street, October 22. Description of EDWARD BEAUFOY, who is charged with embezzliug several sums of Money of Mr. W. Bentley, of Colmore Lodge, St. George's- place, Brearley- street West, Birmingham : 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, small eyeB, no heard or moustache, wears sptciacles. is bow- legged, and his hands shake from drinking ; generally dressed in dark clothes. Information to be giVen to Superin tendent Glossop, Police Office, Birmingham.— Bow- street, October 20. Absconded from Bicester on the 16th instant, charged with stealing a Box, Containing plated and other articles ( since recovered), the property of Samuel Towuley, hawker : a man, about 10 years of age, 6 feet high, fair complexion, short grey whiskers, and dressed in a long grey pilot coat, dark breeches, and black billycock hat; he attends fairs, where he is likely to be lound. Information to be given to Superintendent Moulden, Bicester, Oxon.— Bow- street, October 18. Stolen on the 11th inst. : a Coat; a woollen Shirt; a pair of white lambswool Stockinss ; a plaid woollen Scarf; and a Telescope, the property of Zephaniah Knowles, of Oldbury, Worcester.
