The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Notlee.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the . Advertisement, forwarded to tbe Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the t'OLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor inUSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It ia requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," aa they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Absconded from Glasgow, charged on a sheriff's warrant with forgery and embezzlement ot monies belonging to the City of Glasgow Uniou Railway Company : GEORGE TAWSE, late Secretary of the said Compauy, 45 years of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, rather stout make, black hair slightly grey, small dark whiskers and moustache, aud shaved in front of chiu ; he wore a hat and dark or grey trousers; of gentlemanly appearance, and is a native of Dundee. It is supposed he will embark for America or some other foreign port. Information to be given to Chief Constable Smart, City of Glasgow Police.— Bow- street, September 27. Description of a man who said his name was THOMAS DENNIS, of Hitchen, Herts, charged with having on the 14th instant, forged an indorsement ot a cheque for .£ 12 15s. 6d., payable at Gurney, Birbeck and Peckover's Bank, at Wisbech: about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, whiskers round the chin ; dressed in black cloth coat, black soft chummy hat, faocy striped shirt, small necktie, and drab beaverteen trousers ; carries a flag bAsket. He is sup- posed to be a native ot Herts or Bedfordshire, and says he is a p > tato buyer. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Snarpe. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PEJEtSON. v Absconded on the 18th instant, from South Wingate, Durham, charged with stealing from the person of George Adamson, contractor, a vellow leather Purse, coutaining £ 70 in Gold: PATRICK CURTIS, H7 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate figure, light brown hair, thin ginger whiskers, | romiuent cheek bones, thin in the lower part of face, rather pale complexion, aud a pitman. He is an Irish- man, but speaks in the dialect of the Durham pitmen ; dressed in a Scotch cap, white flannel jacket, dark vest, and cord trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Scott, Police Station, Castle Eden, Durham, who holds a warrant for 1 is apprehension.— Bow- street, September 27. Escaped from the Police Station, Altrincham, Cheshire, on the 23rd instant, where he was in custody, under remand, on a charge of having, on tbe 15th ultimo, at Lymm, stolen a silver Watch fiom the person of Thos. Richards : MICHAEL BURN, alias SAMUEL JONES an Irishman, but who says he is a Welshman, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and hair, grey eyes, black whiskers of about a month's growth, has a mark of a cut across the left cheekbone about an inch long, high cheekbones, rather stoutly made, and has a pugilistic appearance ; dressed in a hard billy- cock hat, dark shooting coat, and old woollen cord trousers, which are very tight round the waist; he has been living in some part of Wale- for a considerable time, and speaks with a Welsh accent, and is supposed to have a relative living in Wales ; has been working at farmhouses in the neighbourhood of Stockport, driving horses, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Steen, Altrincham, or to Sergeant Dutton, Lymm, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- slrett, September 27. Description of property stolen from the person, at Don- caster, between the 13ih and 17th instant: A gold Watch, engine- turned, while dial, with a small scratch upon it. No. 38640. A gold Watch, with gold dial and figures, steel hands, with military arms ic centre. A gold Pin, horseshoe pattern, Bet with two diamonds, two rubies, and two emeralds. A large gold Pin, same pattern, set with three diamonds on one side aud two on the other. £ i reward on recovery. A large white Opera Glass, 1 Captn. Stuart' engraved on the barrel. Information to be given to Superintendent Gregory, Doncaster. — Bow street, September 24. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Geo. Friend, at the parish of Horsted Keynes, Sussex, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : two pairs of men's half Boots, one pair stout and new, the other pair light and worn ; a pair of women's kid side- lace Boots ; a light woollen Overcoat, pockets at sides, and breast pockets containing a pair of dogskin Gloves ; a low- crowned black felt Hat; 30s. in Money; three silver Table Spoons, marked ' A- F. ;' a very Bmall silver Spoon ; seven or eight silver Tea Spoons, engraved ' J. A. F. ;' two silver Salt Spoons ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' A. F ;' some old Silver, viz., a Watch- case, Sugar Tongs. Pencilcase, aud other trinkets ; a bottle of Gin, aud some Wine. A large carving knife was left in the house ; supposed by tramps. Information to he given at the Chief Colfetable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Pocock, Cuck- field, Sussex.— Bow street, September 27. Between 7 a. m. and 6 p m. on the 16th inBtant, the dwelling house of Henry Hatch, of Staplehurst, Kent, was broken into and stolen therein : a black cloth Coat, Trousers, and Vest, nearly new, the Coat has pockets at the sides and one in left breast; a black cloth Overcoat, a black felt billy- cock Hat, three pots of black Currant Jam, a Half- Sovereign, and a 2s. Piece. Tbe Greatcoat and Trousers were sold the same dav to a second hand clothes dealer at Maidstone by STEPHEN ALLCHIN, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches bigh, pale and sickly complexion, generally wears a white slop, round felt hat, has been in the army, and is a native of East Malling, Kent ; he has been several times convicted of felony. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 6 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 23rd instant : From the cottage of Edmond Hiscock : four blue striped cotton Shirts, two nearly new and two old ; 22s. in Silver, and 2s. in Copper. From the cottage of William Avan : an old- fashiined silver verge Watch, Steel Chain and Seal attached ; a tin Money Bottle, 6d. in Silver and some Coppers in it. From the cottage of Walter French : an old- fashioned silver verge Watch. ' W. F.' scratched inside of outer case, curb Chain and German- silver Guard attached ; a Blanket; and 8s. iu Postage Stamps. From the cottage of Robert Vidler : a blue monkey Jacket, lined with plaid flannel and iwo pockets outside. Two other cottages were also broken into, but nothing stolen ; all in the parish of Westfield snd Battle. Information to be given to the Chief Office, Lewes ; to Super- intendent Jenner, Battle ; to Police Constable Smith, or at any Police Station in East Sussex. - Bow- street, Septemter 27. About mid day on the 21st instant, the dwelling- house of James Powell, ot Whittington, was entered by skeleton keys and stolen therein : £ 13 in Gold, 63-. in Silver, a gold Brooch, set with garnets, heart patiern : a gold Brooch, inlaid with hair; a small square gold Brooch ; a large oval pattern Brooch ; two gold Wedding Rings ; two gold Scarf Pins ; a silver Watch, name engraved inside • William Wellings, Oakengates.' Two men and a woman are suspected. One man about 40 years of age ; dressed in grey trousers, dark coat and cap : the other about 18 years of age, high build, and had the appearance of a tramping ostler. The woman is about 30 years of age ; dark clothes ; and carried a black leather bag. Information to b « given to Superintendent Oswell, Police Station, Burton- upon- Trent.— Bow- street, September 27. The shoemaker's shop of Edward Roberts, of Gellicomi- vydydd, Llanfrcthen, Merionethshire, was broken into ou the night of the 17th instant, and stolen therein : a pair of blucher Boots, newly soled, tips on heels ; a pair of womeu's Boots, a piece on toes and heels ; a pair of white woollen Stockings, footed, holes in toes and heels ; a striped Shirt, one plait in in front with three buttons ; and a brown calico Shirt, plain, with one plait in front, with three buttons A man, a native of Bangor, is suspected : about 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, and dressed in fustian trousers, blue and green monkey jacket, Scotch cap, and strong blucher boots. Information to be given to Superintendent, Hughes, Bala, or to Sergeant Lewis, Pen- rhyndendraeth, Merionethshire.— How- street, September 27. During the night of the 21st instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Cosham, No. 3 Farncombe villas. East Worthing, was broken into, and stolen therein : two Table Spoons, a Dessert Spoon, five Forks, and e ght Tea Spoons, all plated; and a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots. Information to be given to Inspector Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Worthing. — Bow- street, S ptember 24. Stolen by breaking into the dwelling- house of Charles Smalley, at Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire, between 8 a. m. on the 18th and the 21st instant.: a suit of black Clothes, nearly new, 2s. 10^ d. in Money, and a white pocket Handkerchief, the coat has a velvet collar, the trousers have fly fronts, a buckle and strap behind, and no lining. Supposed by a young man, about 18 years of age. 6 feet 6 inches high, light hair and complexion, has been a sailor ; dressed in a dark coat, light vest, and dark trousers, black billycock hat, very dirty and shabby. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, Police Station, Spilsby, or to P. C. ( 22) Greenwood, Winthorpe. — Bow- street, September 24. On the night of the 20' h instant, the Railway Office at the Torksey Station on the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincoln- shire Line, was broken and entered, and about 5s. in copper Money and a silver hunting Watch stolen therein ; the watch is an old one, plain cases, the spring of which is broken, and ' H. ( or Hannah) Hatch ' engraved on works. Supposed by tramps. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Keep, County Police Office, Lincoln.— Bow- street, Sptember 24. Between 7 a. m. and 2 p. m. on the 20th instant, the dwelling house of John Jarrett. in the parish of Lynsted, Kent, was broken ioto, aud stolen therein: a pair of check tweed Trousers, nearly new ; a blacs cloth Waistcoat; a blsck cloth Coat, pockets at hips, nearly new ; a white cotton Shirt, with blue stripes ; a yellow silk Handkerchief, with red border ; a pair of Wellington B ' Ots. top strap on each boot broken ; an old- fashioned silver Watch. No. 1284 ; a Ge rman silver Guard, with several pieces of Money attached ; a small pinchbeck Watch, with a small piece broken out of the face between the figures 10 and 11 ; a gold Keeper, with four stones in it; a gold washed Locket, in case; two German silver Spoons; and four pairs of worsted Stockings, marked ' J. J.' By an Irish- man who left his own clothes behind : from 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, light complexion, tbin dark whiskers round his face, dark brown hair, full face, stout build ; is wearing the stolen clolhes and his own cap, an old dirty one. Information to be given to Superinterdent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, September 21. Stolen by breaking into the dwelling- house of Henry Mills, at Mereworth, between 3 and 5 30 p. m. on the 21st inst., between £ 30 and £ 40 iu Gold and Silver in several small jean money Bags; and an old- fashioned silver Watch, maker Birch, Malliog. Information to be given to Superintendent Hulse, Police Court, West Mailing, or to Sergeant Bates, Wateringbury, Ktnt..— Bow- street, September 24. Between 6 and 8 30 p. m. on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Sarah Johns New London- road. Chelmsford, was broken into, and stolen therein : two gold Chains ; two gold eye Glasses; two gold Lockets; a gold Brooch, with pink stone ; a hair Bracelet, with gold fastenings; a silver Watch, with small gold Chain ; a hunch of gold Seals ; a silver Knife ; a silk Shawl, violet colour, with black lace over it ; three Sovereigns in gold; a leather Purse, containing £ 1 10s. in gold, and 3s. in Silver. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Pattisson, Chelmsford, Essex.— Bow- street, September 24. During the night of the 22nd instant, the workshop of Mr. Francis Rawlings, shoemaker, of Clun, Salop, was broken and entered, and stolen therein; a pair of men's new water- tight Boots, plain lace boles, hobs all round soles, double row round toes, nails in middle of heels the shane of a heart and square nails outside. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton ; to Sergeant Hayward, Bishop Castle ; or to P. C. ( 26) Purchase, Clun, Shropshire.— Bow- street, Srp ember 24. Between 12 noon on the 20th and 11 a. m. on the 22nd instant a dwelling house at Saint George's was broken into and stolen therein: 4s Od. in Silver; a gold Dress Ring set with four purple stones; a small gold Mourning Brooch with the words ' In Memory of,' round the outside ; a light Bilk Pocket Handkerchief ; and three J- cirf Pius, two of which have small stoues in and the other a head in the shape of a rose ; the pro- perty of Benjamin Finney, engine fitter, Saint George's. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner. Samt George's, near Wel- lington, Salop.— Bow- street, September 24. By two men, one named FREDERICK AUGUSTE, about 32 years of age, 6 feet 0 inches high, dark hair, beard, and moustache, rather stout built ; dressed in speckled coat, and high bines hat. The other about, 24 years of age, 6 leet 8 inches high, brown hair, small moustache ; dressed in brown coat, and dark cap. They are believed to be natives ot France, and Auguste was formerly interpreter to the three female gymnasts called the Nathalie Family. Warrants have been issued for their apprehension. Osmond, St. Bartho- lomew's ;' a midwifery Forceps, by Ari old ; a mahogany Case ; £ 4 10s. iu Gold ; and about 10s. in Silver. From Mr. J. And two women : one about 24 years of age, short ; dressed in mourning aud black crape bonnet : the other about 22 years of age, short ; dressed iu brown stuff dress, worn aud lorn, black velvet bonnet, with blue trimmings, and browu rough jacket; both wore blue ear- rings. They were traced to Ardleigh Railway Station, where they took tickets for L mdon, on the 17ih instant. One of the women has been on the streets for the last two years in the neighbour- hood of Limehouse, London, and frequents the Sailors' Home. Found on the 18th instai t, in the paiish of Congham, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark bay Horse, 4 years old, about 15 hands high, small star on forehead, hog mane, black legs, mane aud tail, in good condition, rather rough in the coat, slightly chafed by the girths, and recently shod. Information to be given to Superintendent Rose, Docking, or to Inspector Carter, Gnmston, King's Lynn, Norfolk.— Bow- street, Sptem- ler 37. Stolen from a field near Worthen, on the night of tbe 20th instant, the property of Mr. John Powell, butcher, Worthen : a dark brown Mare, about 13 hands bigh, and lame of the off hind leg, from a spavin, and a small white star in the foiehead, and a dark mouse coloured Mare, blind of both eyes, and about 13 hands high. It stolen, whoever will give information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction ot the offender or offenders, and the recovery of the mares, shall receive a reward of £ 5. Information to he given to Superintendent Caswell, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to P. C. Lyndon, Worthen, Salop.— Bow street, September 27. Stolen on the night of the 10th instant, from Cannon Heath, Wateringbury, Kent, the property of George Arnold, Delce- lane, Rochester : a black mare Pony, 10 years old, scar on round hone from a kick on right side, hair rubbed off on ] ef' side, a thick shoe ou off forefoot, and the mane lies on the rear side. S.' on the near side, and a dot of red paint on the top of the back, from Newton Hill Close, iu tbe parish of Nassington, adjoining the High- road leading from Nassington to Woodnewton, the property of Mr. Robert Speed. Whoever will give such information as may lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, shall on his or their conviction, receive a reward ot two guineas from the taid Robert Speed, and a further reward of five guineas from the Treasurer of the Oundle Original Association. Turley, five Lambs, crossed with the Kent and Down breed. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tunbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen during the nijht of the 18th instant, from tbe field belonging to R. Sykes, Esq , Edgeley, adjoining the turnpike road, a black Horse, 13 hands high, 4J years old, has two small white spois on the middle of the back. A reward of £ 1 will be paid to any person giving information to Superintendent Moores, of the Stockport Police, or to John Higginbotham, 11, Moseley. street, Edgeley, Stockport.— Bow- street, Sept. 22. Stolen during the night of the 18th instant, from a lodge in the parish of Seal, a dark iron grey Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, dark fetlocks, marked ' T.' en right side, ' W.' on left, across the loins.
