Alotlee.— It is requested that, all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, PoUce Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it iB desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the ldvertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the t'OLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor imust be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Offic?, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ^ UEBHE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 30th ultimo, the body of a newly- born female Child was found in a barley field at Bramham, in the West Riding of Yorksmre, — r --- r..- « - c — - Middlesbro' Times, and rolled in an old black stuff skirt, on the bottom of which was sewn about 18 inches of black and white plaid cotton, and bound with black braid ; a piece of a white cotton kerchief was tied tightly round the neck, and the two ends pushed into the child's mouth. At an inquest held on the 2nd instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown ' was returned. Stolen from the person on the night of the 12th instant, at Great Driffi ld, a silver lever Watch, No. 24619, maker F. Dobson, Driffield, and ' George Smithson ' engraved on inside of case. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, in Macclesfield on the 6th instant, a silver lever Watch, white dial and steel hands, No. 9214. Information to be given to Chief Constable Etchells, Town Hall, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, August 13. Supposed stolen from the person of a gentleman, during the Regatta at Hastings, on the 11th instant, a gold Geneva Watch, maker Baumgarten, Regent- street, a small gold Albert Chain, with Medal and common Key attached. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings.— Bow- street, August 13. Stolen from different persons at Lewes Races on the 6th and 7th instant:— A silver hunting Watch, white dial, black figures, maker Soloman Lewes, No. 20276. A silver lever ditto, maker Noakes, Burwash, with gold Chain attached. A silver English lever ditto, maker Sheppard, Lewes. A goid lever ditto, gold face. A gold Geneva ditto. A black double Opera- glass. A pair of Field Glasses, black, two marks scratched where the sight is put. A silver piut Tankard, has the name ' Oddy' engraved on bottom. A large Indian Shawl, set with different figures. Information to be given to Superintendent Peacock, Lewes, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- street, August 11. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough of Evesham, on the 26th ultimo, a gold hunting Watch, maker Pautex, No. 1423, jewelled in 8 holes. Information to be given to Superintendent Harris, Pershore, or to Inspector Mann, Evesham, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, August 9. BURGLARY AND hOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Mary McNab, Epping- place, Epping, was broken and entered, and the followiug articles stolen theiein : three white Tablecloths, marked ' D R. M. N.' with cotton ; two coloured Tablecloths, one red and white, the other b'ack and red; a Shift, a flannel Shirt, and a Bedgown, marked 4 E. L. and about 7s. in Coppers. Supposed by a man who was seen leaving the neighbourhood at 415 a. m. on the 14th instant, carrying a bundle : about 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark com- plexion, very thin, and had the appearance of a deserter from the army ; dressed in dark clothes and cap with French peak ; he was traced to Rye House Railway Station, where he took the 8 15 a. m. train to London, paying his fare with coppers. Information to be given to Superintendent, Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bou>- glreel, Auqmt 16. During the night of the 12th instant, the carpenter's- shop of Mr. R. Middleton, at Eddington, near Hungerford, Berks, was broken and entered and the following property stolen therein : two smoothing Planes ; a hand Saw, quite new ; a tenon Saw; a small Hammer; a 6 inch Square ; a screw Driver, all marked ' R. M.;' several small Chisels ; some brad Awls ; a quantity of Screws, of various sizes ; a carpenter's Apron ; and a Tool Basket, with a small piece of leather on one of the handles. Supposed by a man of the following description : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers and beard recently shaved off, has lost one of his forefingers ; dressed in old dirty cord trousers, old brown jacket, and brown clotb cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Harfield, Berks Constabulary, Nesvbury.— Bow- street, August 16. During the night of the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. J. H. Haynes, of Egham, Surrey, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a plated Tea Caddy, crest— a crab, motto Pene fortiter ; a silver Caddy Spoon, with initials ' J F. P.;' a plated Teapot; a green damask Table Cover ; a velvet pile Table Cover ; a Timepiece, in wood frame ; a pair of boy's balmoral Boots, marked ' No. 23 ' iuBide ; a Tunbridge ware Stamp Box ; and a Stable Fork. Also, between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 11th instant, the cottage of Edward Harrison, of Thorpe, Surrey, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : £ 1 18s. 6d. ; the outer case of a double- bottomed silver Watch, much bruised ; a small silver Tea Spoon, with initial ' P,' zuiuiihation to be given to superintendent Murtell, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow street, August 13. The dwelling- house of the Rev. C. J. Plumer, No. 2, St. Ann's- terrace, Lewes, Sussex, was broken pnd entered between 3 and 4 p. m. on the 6' h instant, and the following property stolen : a pair of Sugar Tongs, a Caddy Spoon, a Gravy ditto, four Table ditto, six Dessert ditto, eight large Forks, six small ditto, nine Tea Spoons, two Egg ditto, two Salt ditto, two Sauce Ladles, a Soup ditto, two Knife Rests, and a Butter Knife, all silver ; a black leather Bag ; a black silk Dress, about half worn ; and a black silk Paletot. Sup- posed by two men who were seen going into and leaving the house: one from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh compl- xion, very light hair, stout figure ; the other from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, proportionate make ; they were both dressed in black coats and trousers, and black high hats. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Peacock, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- street, Aug. 11. During the night of the 7th instant the dwelling- house of Alfred Sturgeon, of Grays Thurrock, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen : a mahogany Box and a brass Microscope fitted into it ; a rosewood case of Mathematical Instruments, made of German silver ; a silver Mustard Spoon; a silver Sugir Spoon, made in the shape of a bean shovel ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, a silver Jam Spoon, top of handle figured ; a silver Pencil Case, by Mordaunt. and Co., with gold Pen ; two silver Thimbles, one steel do, lined with silver ; a pair of ladies' Slippers, made of red worsted on black ground ; and 3s. 6d. in Silver and Copper. Information to be given at the Police Station, Brentwood, or at any Police Station in Essex.— Bow- street, Augus: 11. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on the night of the 6th instant, from the house of Mr. Seeley, M. P., No. 26, Princes- gate, Kensington : 1 plain double Eyeglass, link pattern Chain attached. 1 Locket, diamond on back, likeness of gentleman in front, cable pattern Chain attached. 1 small crystal Locket, gold band. 3 Indian Brooches, filagree setting, rubies and Chinese figures in variouB coloured enamel. 1 small ditto, set with garnets or rubies. 3 Bracelets : one ribbed band, piece inserted ; one with a locket in centre, containing three photographs of children, ' M. S. from C. S.' engraved on locket; one a plain band, fastening by an imitation padlock, with blue enamelled vine leaf thereon. 3 Rings : one set with diamonds, aud one with emeralds, each forming a half circle ; one hair, with gold band over the hair, engraved inside ' 11th August, 1857,' a cameo in centre, carved, ' C. S.' and ' M. S.' All gold. Information to be given at the Detective Department, Great Scotland- yard.— Metropolitan Police, August li. Absconded, charged with several cases of housebreaking at Carnarvon : a tramp, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair cut short, small light whiskers, and full round tace ; dressed in white moleskin jacket, brown corduroy trousers, and has a white slop which he may wearing over his jacket, all of which are stolen, black jimcrow hat, red and white cravat, and old lace- up boots He was last seen making his way towards Corwen, and it is supposed he will go to the inland counties. Information to be given to Sergeant Davies, Bettws- y- Coed. or to Chief Constable Ellis, Carnarvon.— Bow- Street, August 11. The dwelling house of Mrs. Simpson, 4, Peel- street, Tettenhall- road. Wolverhampton, was broken and entered between the 27th and 31st ultimo, and the following pro- perty stolen, namely :— 1 opera Cloak, white French merino cloaked hood, lined with pink silk. 1 poplin Dress, blue wool. 15 or 16 yards black Genoa Velvet, new. 2 dress Skirts, blue satinettes. 1 Dress, linsey untrimmed. 2 pairs of Bjots. 1 white moreen Visite, trimmed with violet fringe. 1 dress Skirt, black Genoa velvet taken to pieces. 4 or 5 pairs of Socks, boys' knitted wool. 1 ermine Muff, lined with blue silk. 1 Locket, gold riui miniature of child in centre. 1 Tobacco Box, silver pWted, peculiar make. 3 yards of black corded Silk. Quantity of pieces shot Silk. 1 blue silk Dress, ( roas flounced. 1 silver Top, of mustard and pepper box. 1 old silver Coin. 1 2d. Piece. 1 tin travelling Box. £ 6 reward will be paid to any person or persons who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property or any portion thereof. He ia 04 age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, worn thort, and no whiskers ; dressed in light lavender Coloured mixture tweed coat black velvet collar, fashionable make, light grey trousers aad vest, and black deerstalker hat. The lad who is in his c / mpany is supposed to be a jickey, and wears a suit with black velvet coat collar. The Horses have not yet been recovered. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings.— Bow- street, August 16. Further information respecting the Pony stolen from a field in the parish of Aymestry, Herefordshire, the property of Mr. William Town, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th instant. The pony has been recovered at Wolverhampton and restored to the owner A warrant has been issued agai ist a man of the following description on the charge of stealing the same: GEORGE MORRIS, late of the Goggin, in the parish of Richards Castle, Herefordshire, a horse- breaker and jockey, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fr^ sh complexion, light brown hair and whiskers, meeting under the chin, long thin nose and good looking, rather slender built, walks very erect, and has the appearance of a jockey ; dressed in a black cloth coat and trousers ( tight fitting), dark waistcoat, and generally wears a strap or belt round the middle, black bowler hat, coloured shirt, and light- coloured scarf with pink spots, generally wears lace- up boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, Couuty Police Statior, Leominster, or to Sergeant Bound. Police Station, Wigmore, Herefordshire. — Bow- street, August 16. Stolen from a field at Yardley, during the night of the 7th instant, a mottled grey Mare, rising 6 yeirs old, 14J hands h gh in good condition, the property of Mr Joseph Briscoe ; his a black spot inside near hind letlock, and squeals when touched on the sides. £ 0 will be paid by the Yardley Association for the Prosecution of Felons to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender or offenders, and the recovery of the mare. Information to be given to Inspector Welch, Solihull, Warwickshire.— Bote- street, August 16. Stolen from a field at Penarth, on the night of the 8th instant, a red Cow, of the Hereford breed, about 7 years old, white face and legs, the right horn growing round and into the side of her head about one inch. £ 1 reward and all reasonable expenses will be paid to any person who will restore the same to the owner. Information to be given to Superintendent Sadler. Bridgend, or to Inspector Adams, Penarth, near Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bow- st., August, 16. Stolen from a field at Bruton, on the 31st ultimo, a light bay horse Pony, 12 hands high, 6 years old, white streak down the face, burn on off shoulder, has a hog mane, and a scratch over each knee. A reward of £ 1 will be given for its recovery and conviction of the offender or offenders on application to Superintendent Sheppard, Police Office, Wincanton, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, August 13. Stolen on the night of the 8; h instant, from the parish of Brigstock, the prop- rty of Mr. William Bradshaw, a dark brown mare Pony, rising 3 years old, about 14 hands 2 inches high, black legs and mane, long tail, nearly touches the ground, the mane a little gnawed by other horses, near hind fetlock white, and two scissor marks on top of off shoulder hardly perceptible. Description of a man who has called upon several bakers in Worcester, and from some of them obtained small sums of Money under pretence of being employed by the Rev. Von Sturmer, Baptist minister, to collect money to enable him to give a treat to the school children ; he is about 30 years of tige, 5 teet 6 inches high, rather stout, dark browu wi iski^ s, no moustache, and dressed in dark clothes, black soft billycock hat, and patent leather leggings, of respectable appearance.
