Notice.— It ia requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to i" fr. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of I he offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the t'OLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor fniist be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters tad Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion m the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 27th ultimo, a male Child, about 3 months old, was found in a ditch near Romford, wrapped in an old black shawl, a linen nai> l » >°. a piece of old flannel round the feet: it was taken to the union bouse, where it died the uext day. At tbe coroner's inquest the jury returned a verdict of ' Manslaughter against some person or persons unknown.' A woman came by the 830 p. m. train from Bishopsgate on the previous evening, and it is suspected she got out at the Forest Gate Station : she was about 30 years of age, middle height, slender make, thin face, and o{ gipsy- iike appearance ; dressed in an old black shawl, brown dress, and dark bonnet; she had a child in her arms, which was partly naked. Information to be given to Inspector Gilpin, Police Station, Romford, Essex.— Bom- street, July 2. On the afternoon of the 29th ultimo, the body of a newly born female Ch: ld( was found in the sea opposite Kemp Town, Brighton, wrapped in part of a coarse Towel, about f of a yard square, some pieces of black muslin, apparently the lining of a dress, a small piece of narrow purple velvet ribbon with hook and eye, supposed to be worn round the head, and a female's calico nightgown, a button on the right side of the neck, one on the left side in front, and marked ' F.' in red cotton at the bottom of the breast. At the coroner's inquest the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful murder against some person or persons unknown.' Whoever will give such information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Brighton, as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 6 reward.— Bow- street, July 2. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PEKSON. Stolen from the person of Philip Webb, in the tap- room of the White Hart Hotel, Newmarket, on tbe 8th instant, a double case silver verge hunting Watch, eDgraved on the back ' W. L. P.' Stolen from tbe person of a gentleman on the night of the 6th instant, at Margate : a silver lever open face Watch, maker Vaughan. Bath- street, Bristol, No. 13161, white compensation balance, jewelled in eight holes. Iulormation to be given to Chief Superintendent Compton, Margate.— Box- street, July 9. Stolen from the person of Robert Metcalfe, in the towDship of Marton- le- Moor, between 1 and 5 a. m. on the 23rd ultimo, while in a Btate of intoxication on bis return from Borobridge Fair he had fallen down asleep by the n ad side ; a patent silver lever Watch, maker Taylor, Ripon, No. 60661, with a common steel Chain, Key, and Seal attached. Sometime during the night of the 9th or morning of the 10lh instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Atkinson, was broken and entered between 11 p. m. and 6 a. m., aud the following articles stolen therein: a walnut writing Desk, inlaid with mother of pearl, the shape of a diamond in the ceDtre of the lid ; 6s. 2d. in Money, all in fourpenny and three- penny pieces ; the silver Top of a small scent bottle ; a small gold watch Key ; a scarlet and drab table Cloth, nearly new ; a tea Pot, a coffee Pot, and a cream Jug, all of one pnttern, SBlver plnted, and the plate worn ott in places ; a sugar Basin ; two salt Cellars, plated and gilded inside gold colour; two plated salt Spoons; a pair of gentleman's light Boots, with brass eyelet holes and toe capped. Information to be given to Superintendent Young, East Riding Constabulary, Great Driffield, Yorkshire, or at any Police Station in the East Riding.— Bow- street, July 12. On the 7th inst., the cottage of Edward Ward, labourer, of the parish of Tardebigge. was entered by means of skeleton keys, between 7 a. m and 7 p. m., and stolen therein : 12s. in Silver ; a Sovereign ; five old Brooches ; a Locket; and a Wedding Ring. Supposed by three tramps, who were seen near the cottage, one of whom was hawkiDg tracts. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Bevan. Police Station, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, July 12. Further information respecting the property stolen and burglary at the Rev. Wm. Dalton's, of Little Bunstead, Essex, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant. A double Scent Bottle, with silver gilt tops ; a large circular Magnifying Glass in black frame with a handle; an Ivory Pocket Book with four views of Paris painted on it; a green leather Purse containing a Note- book, Pencil, and a Civil Service Card ; a Bilver Pencil Case with inches marked on it ; an Indian inlaid Card Case containing Cards. The dwelling- house of Mrs. Fallows, Waterloo- road North, Wolverhampton, was broken and entered between tbe 3rd and 6th instant, aod the following property stolen therein : 1 large- sized light- coloured Workbox. 1 walnut Cabinet. 2 gold Lockets, set with blue enamel and pearls on one side, and hair on the other. 2 gold neck Chains. 1 massive gold Chain, old- fashioned links. 2 gold Rings, set with pearl and diamond in each. 1 gold Ring, set with emerald and pearl,' W. A quantity of silk Handkerchiefs. Information to be given to Captain Segrave, Chief Constable, Wolverhampton.— Bow- street, July 12. Between 4 and 5 p. m. on the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Ramsey, at Stamford Nursery, Dunham Massey, was broken and entered, and stolen therein. Supposed by two young men tramps, of the following description : about 20 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, one rather stout, and the other thin : a gold Geneva Watch, old fashioned, with the back enamelled ; a gold Albert Chain, modern pattern, with a gold locket attached, and the likeness of a gentleman inside ; a small bag containing .£ 15 and a £ 5 Note; a man's small ribbed black cloth shooting Jacket, with two pockets outside, and one inside left breast ; a brown cloth Waistcoat ; and a pair of light tweed Trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Steen, Police Office, Altrincham.— Bow- street, July 12. On the night of the 29th ultimo, the Railway Station at South Stockton was broken into, and stolen therein: a blue pilot cloth Coat, much worn, lined with light coloured alpaca, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, bound with broad worsted braid, has two rows of buttons in front, two top buttons on right side have been torn off. and the lining stained with black iuk. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, Stokeeley, or to Inspector Howes, South Stockton, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 9. In custody at Petworth, charged with housebreaking : a man who says his name is JAMES SNOWLAND, bricklayer, a native of Portsmouth, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, stout build, grey eyes, light brown hair, sandy whiskers meeting under the cbin sandy moustache, fair complexion, and has the letter ' D ' on left side ; dressed in black cloth coat, with pockets at the sides, cotton striped waistcoat, white cord trousers, check shirt, old elastic- Bide boots, and felt hat. States that, he baB belonged to tbe 9th Regiment of Foot, and that he had worked at Brighton, Portsmouth, Petersfield, Msidstone, Ashford, and Folkestone. Information to be given to Super- intendent Kemmish, West Sussex Constabulary, Petworth.— Bow- street, July 9. During the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Badcock, in the parish of Leigh, was bioken and entered, and stolen therein : a ruesia leather Pocket- book, containing two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, a Cheque Book on the London and County Bank ; three Overcoats, one brown, ODe dark with velvet collar, one macintosh ; a black Shawl; two felt Hats ; four silver Tea Spoons, marked ' E. C.;' two silver Table Spoons ; two electro- plated Table Spoons ; a large mahogany Writing Desk ; a Toast Rack; a Salt Spoon ; aud six Pocket- handkerchiefs. During the night of the 5th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. John Stevens, at Horley, was broken aod entered, and the folio wing property stolen : two ivory carved Boxes containing Pearls ; a silver Mustard Spoon, marked 4 H. E. M.;' a silver Thimble ; a green morocco Cigar Ca- e bound with gilt; a small piece of an Indian silver Chain, end two pairs of Spec- tacles— one with gold frame, the other steeL Information to be given to Superintendent Hollington, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone, or to Sergeant Henry Baker, Horley.— Bono- street, July 9. Between 12 30 and 4 a. m. on the 4th instant, the dwelliDg- house of Mr George Humble, grocer, of Ampleforth, North Riding of Yorkshire, was broken and entered and stolen therein, supposed by tramps : a grev tweed cloth shooting Coat, with grey lining, two pockets outside without flaps over them, and one ioside left breast ; a black cloth Waistcoat, with black cloth buttons, rather shabby at tbe front corners ; a silk Turkey red Handkerchief, with flowers or spots on it, and about 3 or 4 lbs of Dew milk Cheese. Information to be given to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary, Kirby- Moor- side, York.— Botc- street, July 1. Between 2 and 4 p. m. on the 6th instant, the cottage of George Shaw, at Shrewley, Warwickshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a double- cased silvir Watch, ' G' or ' George Shaw' marked inside, and Bteel Chain attached ; a pair of light cotton cord Trousers, nea ly new ; a pair of watertight Boots; a fustian Jacket with large pockets inside staioed with blood ; a white calico Shirt, and 5s in Money. Supposed by a tramp, as an old pair of dark cord trousers and a pair of elastic side boots were left in tbe house ; the thief is supposed to be wearing the stolen pro- perty. Description of HENRY WILLIAMS, charged with breaking out of the house of Thomas Bate, farmer, Aston- by- Sutton, during the nigbt of tbe lst instant or early the follow- ing morning, and stealing a brown cloth shootiDg Jacket, a Vest with sleeves made out of a rifleman's jacket, a grev cloth Vest, a lilac printed cotton Shirt, a pair of watertight Boots, a pair of lace- up Boots with toecaps, a pair of plain ditto, and a quantity of Provisions : he is about 26 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, whiskers and moustache shaved • ( F the day before he left, tattooed on both arms with a crucifix, ship, uud other things, also on the breast with a horse and chariot, supposed in different coloured ink, cut mark on left side of upper lip, and a small lump on right temple ; dressed when last seen in black cloth melton coat, brown cloth vest, cord trousers, aDd black billycock hat ; haa been a sailor, and is smart and active in appearance ; stated that he was a native of S affordshiie, that he intended to go there to see his father, and that his moiher was dead. Had in his possession a pawn ticket relating to ClothiDg pledged in Crewe for 19s. al- o one relating to a Parcel pledged in Staf- fordshire for 40s. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, Police Station, Runcorn, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehensiou.— Bow- street, July 7. SOESS AND CATTLE STEALING. Absconded, charged with stealing from Lyme Regis, Dorset, on the 7th instant, a mare Pony, which has been found sold at Yeovil, Somerset. A young man, 18 or 19 years of aje, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark full eyes, dark hair, thin face, and no whiskers, slender build, gentlemanly appearance, and gives the name of W. C. JAMES; dressed in a brown suit, elastic side boots with patent leather fronts, small gold watch and chaiD, black necktie, with gold pin, dark felt bowler hat, and wearing two rings on his fineers. He has been lately travelling through some parts ot Devonshire by the Western coast, via Sidmouth, Seaton, Lyme, Bridport, Dorchester, and Yeovil, at which place he was seen at 7 3( p. m. on the 8th inst. Information to be given to Superintendent MacHale, Bea- minster, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 12. Stolen between 9 p. m. 9: h and 9 a. m. on tbe 10th instant, from a field at Shap, Westmoreland, the property of James Cross, marine store dealer, Shap. a fly bitten grey 111 are PoDy, about 12 years old, about 13 bands high, clean legs, and in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Parks, Appleby, Westmoreland, or at the County Chief Con- stable's Office, Catlisle.— Bow- street, July 12. Stolen from a field at Thornfalcon, on the night of the Ist instant, a red roan Mare, 6 years old, 14 hands high, small collar galls on the points of the shoulders, black legs and mane, a few grey hairs in tail, in good condition, the property of Mr. Chambers, of Ash Farm. Information to be given to the owner, or at the Police Office, Taunton, Somerset.— Bow- street, July 12. Found at Combe St. Nicholas, Somersetshire, and snpposed to have been stolen : five chilver Lambs, of the Devon breed, not marked, tails recently cut i ff. Absconded from South Stockton, Yorkshire, charged with stealing a Horse, recovered, the property of Mr. Robert Coates, of Stockton on Tees: WILLIAM WHITE, a returned [ convict, 30 yeais of a^ e, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. June 14. complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, small ginger whiskers, and proportionate figure ; dressed in dark cord trousers aud vest, with sleeves, old black cloth reefim* jacket, patched 011 back, black cloth cap or black billycock hat; aud JOHN WHITE, 28 yrs. of age 5 ft 9 inches high, fresh complexion, blue or grey eyes, light brown hair, small ginger whiskers, and proportionate figure ; dressed in light cord trousers and vest with sleeves, light mixture coat, long ill the laps, light mixture cloth skull cap, with > eak ; they are well known in the North Riding of Yorkshire and Durham, are potters, sand hawkers, or rag gatherers, and are likely to be found in beerhouses. Supposed stolen about the end of April or beginning of May last, from a sheepwalk on Rhyddhowel Hill near Llan- dinam Pole : eight yearling Ewes, pitched on the crupper ' H.' in a circle, and ruddled on the shoulder with a spot, and a stroke across the loins, the near ear mark a swallow fork, the off ear sloped and split. If stolen £ 20 rew- ird will be paid on recovery of the sheep, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, New- town, to P. C. Pearson. Caersws, or to Sergeant Owen, Llan- idloes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- strett, July 9. Supposed stolen between the lC'h April and the 11th May last, from the Cwm sheepwalk, on Rhyddhowel Hill, in the parish of Llandinam : nine Sheep, near ear split in the length, and thumb notch under off ear across the point, and split the butt, red ruddle on the loius, and pitched with 1 R.' Also from Glyn sheepwalk a « tj lining : three wether Sheep, cross the point of both and split each ear twice, pitched with ' J. E.' If stolen, £ 20 reward will be paid on recovery of the sheep, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given at tile Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, to P C. Supposed stolen from a field in the borough of Bucking- ham, during the niuht of the 4th instant, tour fat wether Sheep, marked ' T. R.' on off side, and ( supposed) red ruddle clot on hip. If stolen, £ 3 reward will be paid by Mr. Thomas Ridgway, the owner, on conviction of the offender or offenders, and all reasonable expenses on recovery of the sheep. Description of two men charged on a warrant with stealing a Horse and Cart, recovered, from Warrington, on the 30th ultimo: ROBERT BURNS, native of St. Helen's, Lancashire, 20 years ot age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, a drawer iu a coalpit; dressed in black cloth Buir, far worn, and cap and clo^ s ; and WILLIAM BRIERS, of St. Helen'sy Lancashire, 20 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, a black- smith ; dressed lu light cloth coa', old Mick vest, and fustian trousers, militia boots, cut in front. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington.— Bow- street, July 7. Absconded, charged with ste- iling from Hatfield Peverel, on the ni^ ht of the lst instant, a Pony, which has been found sold at Mistley, Essex : a man, about 35 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, ginger whiskers aud slight moustache, has a wart on the right Bide of his nose, very red face and neck ; dressed in pepper- and- sdt- coloured coat, torn at the pocket on the left 6ide. nigh bat, light trousers, led woollen shirt, and green scarf fastened with a ring ; had the appearauce of a low horse dealer, aud had with hiin a light- coloured greyhound. Absconded on the 6th instant from No. 2, Little Gros- venor- stieet, stealing a gold horizontal keyless Watch, and a lady's gold neck Chain attached. Description of JOHN JAMES MUIR, a clerk, lately in the employment of Messrs. Brown, Downs and Co., Wholesale Grocers, No. 22, Dunlop- street, Glasgow, charged on a Sheriff's w warrant with the theft or embezzlement of £ i5 12s., the pro- blacu hair, grey eyes, dark brown beard and moustache, and petty of his late employers; about 22 years of age, 6 feet G no whiskers ; dressed in a dark mix1 ure suit, light coloured inches high, dark hair and complexion, little or no beard, overcoat, bluo necktie, black low hat, black and white stripe sharp featured, pockpitted, slight make, active appearauce; plaid shirt, and elastic side boots. luforwation to be given to FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of JOHN GEORGE BUNTING, a quack doctor, charged on a warrant wiih obtaining Money and Goods by false pretences at Buckingham.
